'The Devil Karl Rove Made Me Do It!'

Mitt Romney, a conservative candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination, is Morman.  That means it's time for Andrew Sullivan to mock all Mormons, as here, with a post uncovering the key question of Mormon underwear.

But when called on it, Andrew insists, absurdly, that he meant no disrespect, and invokes the left's own Satan in his self-defense:

...none of this would be relevant at all, if the Republicans did not now base their politics on explicitly religious appeals. You wanna play by the rules of theoconservatism? Then deal with the consequences.

Is America ready for a Mormon leader who is pro-life and believes that "marriage should be between a man and a woman"?  We'll find out soon enough - Harry Reid becomes Senate Majority Leader next January.

Ann Althouse has lots more.

No offense intended, TM, but who cares what Andrew Sullivan thinks or doesn't think? The Corner people at National Review Online are obsessed with him. I can't remember the last time I looked at something he wrote and I doubt if I've read more than two pieces by him.

Instapundit notes that Harry Reid is also a mormon, and the left would yell "bigotry' if anyone brought it up.

Shorter Sullivan.

One standard for thee, none for me.

Because any stick available can be used when it's used for truth, justice and the American way.

As he sees it.

He's become what he professes to oppose.

Conservatism of doubt, indeed.

Sullivan will make sense when he stops thinking with his dick.

You think Andrwew will be publishing some 'homosexual' underwear with a big hole in the rear end??

And what would he say if someone else did?

The thing about Sullivan is you can never tell if its him or the synthetic testosterone talking.

Of course the media will never talk about his 'drug problem'.

Sullivan who?

Boy, I remember when Sullivan was a must read for me. It was right after 9/11 and he made a lot of sense. All of that changed.
Now, he is a moonbat. I can't remember exactly when he flipped out, but it is one of the beautiful things about the blogosphere. We got to witness his tailspin to insanity. It's kind of fun. Like watching NASCAR for the accidents.

Last time I checked (which was a few months back, at least), his archives were still 'Lost in Transition' from his old site to TIME, so actually, his full transformation is partly a matter of oral tradition (as it were).

Good point, but Althouse/Reynolds scored a duofecta by whacking Sully *and* Greenwald in one post. That is a real "Who Cares" derby - one o fthose guys is the most disingenuous chap in the blogosphere ,and the other is jealous.

Althouse got it right: Sullivan is playing an ugly game here, and he's too self-righteous to recognize how ugly it truly is.

"Sullivan will make sense when he stops thinking with his dick."

It's called the gay vote. There it is. They will ignore any other issue, or even the slaughter of brownskinned gays around the world by a medieval death cult, as long as Nancy marches with Henry Hide on Gay Pride Day.

It's called the gay vote. There it is.

I'm afraid that's true. When he stated a few years ago that there was a "spiritual aspect to anonymous sex", he not only jumped the shark, he was humping the thing.

Instead of sex and sexual orientation being an ancillary aspect of human beings, he has seemingly raised it to be the dominant aspect of our (or his) humanity. Or, at least, a major component of our lives, far exceeding what others see in it and value in it.

And really, as others have now noted, this is way too much time spent on him. His arguments are riddled with bad faith sentiments.

Sully is just over-compensating for his latent attraction to Mitt by visualizing him in his Mormon underwear.

*Unlucky* for us that Sully likes to share.

George Romney was mormon, and he managed to be a popular governor of Michigan in the 1960's.

Would Sullivan accept the following excuse for gay-bashing:
none of this would be relevant at all, if the homosexuals did not now try to bring their sexuality into politics. You wanna play by the rules of sexual politics? Then deal with the consequences.

It seems to me there are plenty of people that say they don't mind homosexuals, as long as they keep it to themselves. Isn't that what Sully is saying about Religious people?

He "flipped out" when Bush proposed the Marriage Amendment.

Sad thing is that Sullivan keeps getting rolled out for face time on the talking heads shows as speaking for the Republicans, with his erstwhile lapdog David Gergin as a partner voice of the hard right.

Look, Andy is suffering from the early stages of dementia which, unfortunately, is an often resulting by-product from some of the meds that he takes. This condition manifests itself in a number of forms, including very wide mood swings often accompanied by more-or-less permanent changes in outlook and temperament. Cut him a little slack and/or stop reading him, as some above have suggested.

So what are "the meds" he's taking?

Andrew Sullivan changed when the proposal for a constitutional ammendment proclaiming marriage to be between a man and a woman was supported, at least rhetorically, by Bush. He also hated the spending bills he signed. I believe his drugs are to control AIDS.

Sullivan, Gergen, and Pat Buchanan are pulled out to represent Republicans by the lefty pundits all the time. Similarly, Chuck Hagel is their favorite senator. It fools the average American. Real Republicans know better.

Hmmmm.

Would it be excessively un-PC of me to state for the record that I really can't say I care overly much about gay issues?

For such a small percentage of the population it seems that all we ever discuss are gay issues. Gay this, gay that. Gay gay gay gay gay.

It's almost worth bringing back that tepid tedium of the Plame.

"Tepid tedium of Plame"?

OT But it looks like Murtha needs a "Swift" kick in the pants!

Did Jack Murtha Lie for His Purple Hearts?

In January, Marc Morano and Randy Hall of CNSNews.com noted multiple explanations offered by Murtha on his combat injuries that varied widely. It also reported accusations by a former congressional staffer that Murtha had pressured his boss for his Purple Heart awards and the testimony of a former Democratic Congressman and colleague of Murtha’s, who claimed that Murtha admitted that he didn’t deserve the Purple Hearts he was awarded.

Tom:

Yeah, the last JOM Greenwald post lured Glenn himself to comment here.

So the question is, are you trying to get Sullivan to pay JOM a visit?

The logical follow up to that would then be, well, um, you trying to get us to leave?

I think Andy is above replying. Plus he was so skewered by Hugh Hewitt a while ago, he is yet to be seen in daylight.

"Tepid tedium of Plame"

My reason for reading here. I love tepid tedium.

The 'Left' Satan? That might be Lucifer. Bill should have made all this clear.

Religion is not really important unless one considers the fact that Satan, 'the right,' does, in fact, exist, in which case, one must choose religion. There really is no escape here, people have no choice.

Okay, so the aliens really were sent by, and creations of, Satan. So, ET ain't no fun, friendly, toy for your kid. Satan chose the earth and that's the only reson it's still here. It could all be gone by now. The real intersting thing his here is demntia and brain contraction. Dehydartion over the years can cause the diseases from the brain to occur earlier, so if you drink alcohol, which shrinks the brain into a hang over, you may want to consider ingesting large amounts of callagen, PABA, or Aloe NOW. Vitamin companies are in a conspiracy to deny you the real addiative or vitamin in your multi vitamin that will help with the effects of a shrnking and expanding brain, not that the alien making everything you are, were, and will be using a device on your brain - has the same effect on the brain; so don't drink while it's ending your life because it's bad.............anyway, soon that vitamin addative is out there and the vitamin companies will be making millions and then we'll know the conspiracy is over, but did they wait too long to put it on the market and tell you that dehydration is why you went insane at 50 instead of 90?

Oh ya, 'lucifer's little journeys' are not just for dems - doing federal service - anymore!

I can only guess that Andrew is still read by many because he used to be admired by many. We'll see if whatever new admirers he's gained find him relevant in January '09.

After reading this and similar recent articles by Andrew Sullivan, I've come to the reluctant conclusion that he's been acting like a Moron.

But I mean no disrespect.

/f

Did you mean Mormon or moron?

Why do you keep saying many, like in Legion....

and unPC like in Larry Johnson's 'No Quarters?.................'

After watching Andrew Sullivan spout his drivel on the Bill Maher show I quickly became disillusioned. Too bad he's become a johnny one note.
I love the tepid tedium of Plame-some of our best threads come from that topic and come January it will be all Plame all the time.

--I've now had more emails about Mormon underwear than gay marriage.--

is what Andrew says today...an extraordinarily typical Andrew post...unchecked and unbelievable.

But really, even his stabs at humor are UN-ironically ridiculous -- like his arguments/rants.

According to Defamer, Bill Maher made a comment following a taping of his HBO program in which he promised one of the panelists that he would NEVER EVER seat her near Sullivan again. Apparently, Andy has some kind of a flatulence problem.

Andrew's postings about Mormonism certainly gives us all an insight into the way Andrew acquires information and processes it.

It's a given Andrew knew squattah about LDS prior to, oh, two weeks ago. Now he's a leading expert.

Just ask him.

Bob, I worked in awards and decorations in S E A. Suffice it to say that the premise was that anyone who got shot at deserved some kind of medal. I was directed to write a recommendation for the Distinguished Flying Cross for a dude who flew a grand total of 8 missions before he was deemed incompetent and shipped off to HQ. He harassed command (like Murtha and Carry) til they finally decided to tell me to write it up because, really command has more important things to do than answer twixes from jerks. Have no idea whether it was awarded, but suspect it was. I flew some pretty hairy missions, but cannot tell you from reading the citations of my decorations for which missions they were awarded.

I give all veterans, including Murtha and Jon Carry, credit for their honorable service. It's just that it doesn't excuse bribery or treason.

Ah, "the garment" rears it's clothy head again!

Is America ready for a Mormon leader?

Ah, not that one.

Mitt Romney is an empty suit whose political beliefs can change in an instant.

Pro choice and pro gay rights just a few short years ago.
Now he is trying to sell himself as the conservative. In fact McCain has a better record on social issues than Romney.
