Forty-four congressional Democrats who voted to condemn MoveOn.org for its ad branding Army Gen. David Petraeus "General Betray Us" have accepted more than $3.9 million in contributions from the influential anti-war group and its members.

Among those who opposed resolutions specifically repudiating the full-page ad in The New York Times, only 17 Democrats and one independent took cash from the group and its members — contributions totaling almost $1.4 million.

The resolutions approved by the House, calling the ad an “unwarranted personal attack,” were only symbolic. But the split of MoveOn beneficiaries on the votes highlights something of a rift between Democrats and the anti-war activists who largely fuel MoveOn.

Senate Democrats making noises about cutting off funds for the troops. Dick Durbin ( no more appropriately named man in the Senate ) says he is "at the breaking point on this." Reid promises a fight.

Man are these guys going to get a blistering phone call from Bill Clinton. They are going wreak his election, or something like that!

Scrappleface has a good satire on Clinton's latest. He says "Clinton announced every non aborted baby born in this country who escaped the scapel is intitled to $5,000." He also has a good one on Chucky re the same subject.

Yeah right. Shove it Aaron. Mormons don't take welfare and they sure as hell don't vote for the likes of Hillary. Mormons take care of their own, they don't use the government as their nanny, Mommy or Daddy. Gawd how I hate bigots.

Henry Waxman is calling the State Dept Blackwater's enabler. Think that will make him any friends with the stripey pants set? Blackwater has never had a diplomat killed under its protection. I would say that in a ongoing war zone that is damn near incredible. The head of Blackwater is a Navy Seal, so he must have loved sitting and listening to moonbat Waxman tell him how to do his job.

Will the government be allowed to cross collect on debts? If the five thousand is available and the student or mortgage is owed, why can't the government or mortgage holder access the govevernment account and collect?

Maybe Social Security isn't that bad an idea; the banks and the government(yes, for parking tickets too) can cross collect debts and then really make sure they pay out of the Social Security account or whatever they call it.

Most countries allow private organizations to collect out of their social security account.

BTW OJ Simpson is ordered to take off his Rolex watch and give it to the family of Ron Goldman by a judge today. In addition, he is required by the same order of the judge to provide the Goldman family with any of the memorabilia that is returned to him from the famous "sting Operation" that OJ ran in Las Vegas. Seems like OJ was quite successful. He will likely end up with a felony and absolutely no financial reward for his actions. A true just result.

Remember that earlier comment about Edward Luttvak and the "Miles Ignotus" controversy;
apparently someone who doesn't know is Ray
McGovern, VIPser I referenced earlier. In a column syndicated on my local fishwrap; he attributes it to Henry Kissinger; the sad thing as one of the senior CIA analysts back in the 80s he should have been aware of it; if not Google it. The column about the immorality of the Iraq war, erroneously cites Kissinger as Ignotus, in order to refer to him as supporting the Iraq war a quarter century later. He keys off the almost incidental comment from Alan Greenspan's memoir about the "Iraq War being largely about oil" and Kssinger's truism about 'industrial nations cannot accept radical forces dominating a region upon which their economies depend" That sounds like the Brezhnev doctrine" to him. The fact that 'radical forces' like Saudi Wahhabism shouldn't control the global economy like they did in the '70s, causing
the 'silent depression' in living standards, the rush of petrodollars which would eventually topple Venezuelan democracy, financed a myriad of madrassas, lavish spending by the Sauds and their hand picked coterie of Gen. Intel. supported Muj
leaders like Raisul Sayyaf and Hekmatyar whose mebers would form AQ's cadres is a
radical notion for McGovern.
To argue his point of view he cites Charles Freeman, handmaiden to Chinese as well as Saudi oligarchs, past president of the Middle East Institute; coincidentally he replaced the knowing poli-math and foe of Wahhabism, the late Hume Horan, chronicled in Kaplans "The Arabists". Freeman puts down
the notion that you need to 'control resources in order to have access to him. Joining him is James Akins, the US Amb. at the time of the Oil embargo, whose job was to rationalize the Wahhabi extortion to the American people. This is where he plugs in the notion of Kissinger as Ignotus. For his refusal to go along with this speculation about seizing the Saudi oil fields he was fired. He was joined in this effort by Ray Close, another VIPser who adopted the General Intell's rather than Langleys' viewpoint on issues, later served as a conduit for covert transaction for the Saud's Naational Chemical Industries

AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Army scientist asked a federal judge Tuesday to hold two journalists in contempt for refusing to identify the government officials who leaked details about the investigation into the 2001 anthrax attacks.

Steven J. Hatfill, who worked at the Army's infectious diseases laboratory from 1997 to 1999, was publicly identified as a "person of interest" in the attacks. He is suing the Justice Department, accusing the agency of violating the federal Privacy Act by giving reporters information about him.

Five journalists are under court order to reveal their sources. In court documents Tuesday, Hatfill asked for a contempt order against two who have refused: James Stewart, formerly of CBS News and Toni Locy, a former Associated Press reporter who wrote about Hatfill while working at USA Today.

Locy testified that she could not remember specifically who told her information about Hatfill and she refused to disclose which officials she spoke to while reporting generally on the investigation.

After the reporters attempted to contact their sources to see if they still sought anonymity, Stewart identified one FBI official and Locy's attorneys identified an FBI official and a former Justice Department official. Stewart refuses to reveal three other FBI sources and Locy refused to reveal any of her remaining contacts, Hatfill's attorneys wrote.

Hatfill's attorneys asked U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton to fine the reporters $1,000 per day until they cooperate. The proposed fine would increase to $2,000 after a week and continue to increase $1,000 every week. Attorneys also asked that media corporations be prohibited from paying the fines for them.

The court documents did not mention whether the other reporters have cooperated. An attorney for the three reporters — Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman of Newsweek and Allan Lengel of The Washington Post — did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Topsecretk9

ack---didn't notice I copied the whole thing. Sorry.

Topsecretk9

also add Brain Rossto the list

A federal judge in New York has ordered a journalist at ABC News, Brian Ross, to disclose the identities of the government sources he relied upon when reporting about the anthrax attacks of 2001.

Mr. Ross is now the sixth reporter to have been ordered to give up sources to assist with a civil lawsuit brought by a former Army scientist, Steven Hatfill, ...The ruling, signed last week by Judge Alvin Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, comes a month after a federal judge in Washington first ordered five reporters from the Washington Post, Newsweek, and other news outlets to name their sources. Since that first order, two of the sources have come forward and identified themselves, according to a letter filed last week by a lawyer for Mr. Hatfill, Charles Kimmett. The letter does not identify the sources beyond saying they are former Justice Department employees, nor does it say to which reporters the sources spoke.

Gen. Wesley Clark
Take Rush Limbaugh Off Armed Forces Radio

centralcal

Ann: Dan Riehl addressed General Weasly thusly:

"This is rather strange. Retired General Wesley the Mad Bomber of Bosnia Clark is calling for Rush Limbaugh to be removed from Armed Forces Radio via The Huffington Post. I didn't realize so many of our service men and women read HuffPo."

How funny!!

Topsecretk9

Wesley Clark should be banned from TV.

WESLEY CLARK: But if you didn't have those rules of engagement, like we had in some units at the outset where you just sort of knocked on doors and roughed people up. Well, look, I mean, in America, think of how it would be. I'm from Arkansas, but think of how it would be anywhere in the states, you know? An invading force comes in. They're wearing space helmets.

JON STEWART: You're talking Red Dawn aren't you? Are you talking Red Dawn?

CLARK: Sort of like that. But they're space invaders. They have laser weapons and stuff and bust down your doors and rough up your women and throw you on the ground, really, I mean.

Wesley Clark also smeared the troops a few years ago on Fox News going as far as saying he had first hand the troops had busted down doors and implied they raped women. -- it was on "expose the left"

Ann

Centraical and Tops,

I should have told you why I linked the article; had to run to taekwondo. (My daughter has a black belt not me :) )

Wesley seems to prefer sticking up for honorable phony soldiers and not General Petraeus:

"Our armed forces have served us honorably in Iraq, and the least we can do is respectfully listen to what they have to say about their experiences and perspectives on the war. To question the sincerity of our "phony" troops is disgraceful and must end."

Sue

You guys should have listened to the Mark Davis interview of General Wesley Clark I linked last week. He is a pompous ass. And I don't care what uniform he is wearing when I tell him that.

Topsecretk9
"Our armed forces have served us honorably in Iraq, and the least we can do is respectfully listen to what they have to say about their experiences and perspectives on the war. To question the sincerity of our "phony" troops is disgraceful and must end."

That doesn't quite comport with Wesley Clark's smear of the troops as thugs

Bartle Bull in Prospect has an excellent article on the current state of Iraq.

Narciso, what of the Ray Robison article about the schism between al-Qaeda and the Taleban?
=========================

Not for nothing, was Wes Clark's Michael Moore's candidate. I'don't know was he referencing the Elian rendition with the
Mp-3s occurring at the time that the 19 hijackers were coming into this country; but protected from scrutiny by future 9/11
commissioner Jamie Gorelick. Besides the
earlier referenced Ray McGovern blooper reel
there was another piece by Ed Wasserman, championing the whole plethora of books (Ricks, Gordon, Saddam sycophant Rajiv
Chandrikesar, serial misrepresenter George
Packer et al) his only lament was that the
late Halberstam's insight were'nt available until 1972; unlike the near instant "Iraq
is a catastrophe" diagnostic, that has already been determined. Never mind that Mark Moyar's 'Triumph Forsaken,' based on original research and archival work, demolishes 'the Diem was evil'/Ho Chi Minh was popular thesis. One recalls even a fervent war critic like Mary McCarthy found the flaws in the' Best and the Brightest' misrepre-sentations, particularly regarding the purged army officers like Col. York. forced out by the likes of Westmoreland; or the exile of Vietnam policy critic David Nes. She found Col. York's career hadn't been harmed and Mr. Nes' career had actually
advanced after 1963. Interestingly, Moyar does point out how "Richardson" the anti-
Diem plot dissenter was 'blown' by Kennedy
in collaboration with Halberstam and Co. Ironically two generations later, the likes
of John Maguire,the counterpart toRichardson
in Baghdad outed himself to Knight Ridder and David Corn; through the leaking of his
poorly worded Aardwolf cables. Which just goes to show you it sometimes takes 35 years
to get a story right

Ann

Now if we could just get an honorable senator to read IBD on the Senate Floor...

or a republican presidential candidate to make a commercial!

Sue

I can't believe they want this fight with Rush. He'll win.

Topsecretk9
The anti-war left is trying to slime a major conservative pundit, but Rush Limbaugh was right about the left's "phony soldiers," and Kerry, Murtha, Durbin et al. have called our troops far worse.

Thanks Clarice.

Yes Murtha, Durbin Clark et al never miss a chance to smear the troops as stupid murderous thugs.

You know the mainstreamers ought to have a second thought about Jane Hamsher'-MM-Clark (aka Townhouse email serv) speech lynch-mob. If the freedom of speech hating Media Matters mafia succeed in censoring all conservative commentators the MSM will be next. (think back to the jihad over WAPO correctly reporting Harry Reid and Democrats took Abramoff money)

The Clinton's have succeeded in getting negative stories killed (GQ - there are more) - they threatened and bullied ABC (the docu drama) and with no counter conservative voices the MSM will be the target -- only fawning Hillary stories and NO mild criticism or the lynch-mob is coming after their ass.

Also, nice to see so many Dems coming to Rush's defense like so many conservative came to Erwin Chemrinsky's.

Souless party, the Dem party.

Topsecretk9

OH - forgot to add Imus to that list.

Rick Ballard

"He'll win."

Sue,

I'm wondering if they're trying to get him to trip some provision in McJerk-Feingold. Rush ought to consider moving to Las Vegas and running for Reid's seat.

Topsecretk9

OH -- and forgot to add that MSM has really no problem Clinton's personal E-Hamony hook-up boy, Burkle, trying his damnedest to buy up all their employers in order to control what they write.

Topsecretk9

Rick

--I'm wondering if they're trying to get him to trip some provision in McJerk-Feingold.--

You know, I could buy that - and all they while faking out the left roots that they really matter in the meantime, yet again.

Not bad.

Sue

They should watch it if that is what they are trying. They have Senator Clinton on tape telling Daily Kos conventioners that she started Media Matters. Or something along those lines.

Topsecretk9

I did not know this...

The Republican-led Senate investigations committee voted Monday to subpoena the head of the state police in a scandal in which top aides to Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer have been accused of plotting to embarrass Senate leader Joseph Bruno.

The first action to compel testimony under oath in the months-old dispute came as Democrats lashed out at the Senate's Republican majority for continuing to investigate the alleged plot.

Two Spitzer aides have been accused of using state police to compile and publicly release travel records to embarrass Bruno, although the Albany County district attorney last week said no crimes were committed and he saw no evidence of a plot or aides exceeding their authority.

The Senate investigations committee approved the issuing of a subpoena to state police Acting Superintendent Preston Felton. Felton had declined the committee's request to answer questions, but the committee said it will ask Felton again to appear voluntarily before it issues a subpoena....

Hillarious. Spitzer = Cheney?

I get so tired of hearing about the financial promises of our so-called political hopefuls! Their promises over the past few decades is what has gotten us into the mess we are in now! Education costs have skyrocketed and if Hillary really wants to do something for the future of educated people ... fix the exuberant costs of going to college and the outrageous costs for text books! Tuition is outrageous even for an in-state scholar! Politicians claim they want Americans that do not have a college degree to seek one yet they don't do anything to help them get it if they are past the years of some grants being offered. I am over 50 and juts started back to school to get a teacing degree and already I have piled up over $40K to get where I am now with a Bachelors Of Arts in Education! I still have $5K to go to Teachers Prep Program course and then the extra cost for the state test, and the cost for seeking a Masters within the next five years as required by the state I live in ... government does not care about the people and their finances! Wages don't meet with the cost of living ... health care is non-existant, and fuel cost is rising, so everything that we need to servive will cost more and more ... yet, we send thousands of dollars to other countries to help them ... it just does not make any sense. Campaign promises are a bunch of Bunk and they cannot do anything unless they have the majority of the house and senate to back it anyway! Stop kidding ourselves and realize that even though we live in the greatest country in the world we have really big issues that need fixing, and shallow promises will not fix it!
