Al Gore wins the Nobel Peace Prize; presumably, his contribution to our understanding of climate change did not quite meet the standards of the Nobel science prizes.
So, is Al Gore the next Dem nominee for the White House? From Mike Allen, or perhaps a fortune cookie from last night's Chinese, we get this:
Sources say Gore will resist entreaties, but will continue to tease by not ruling it out.
Christopher Hitchens nailed it when he wondered about Gore's belly and the fire therein back in a recent column now being re-run at Slate:
Should he make up his mind not to run, he would retrospectively abolish all the credit he has acquired so far. It would mean in effect that he never had the stuff to do the job and that those who worked and voted for him were wasting their time. Given his age and his stature, can he really want that to be the conclusion that history draws?
If Gore thought he was qualified, the best man for the job, and able to contribute to a better America and world back in 2000, surely it must be painfully apparent to anyone attempting to stoke his ego that Big Al can become convinced that America and the world need him now more than ever in 2008.
And it does not appear that either Obama or Edwards have slaked the thirst of many Dems for a sustainable Anybody But Hillary candidate.
FWIW, at InTrade Al Gore leads the Most Active contracts and has gotten a bump up from 10% to 13% as the probability of being the next Dem nominee, although Hillary's 68% seems unchanged; at the Slate Futures compendium, Gore and Obama are essentially tied as the leading Hillary Alternative.
Our Team, Our Time; Your Season Has Come... sorry, The Man, The Moment, The Movement. Away we go.

Run, Al, Run!
We need the comedy.

I wonder if the "cascade" aticle (in Clinton's main propaganda organ) was prep work for knocking down the Globaloney that put Algor right next to Arafat? Might be too big a stretch but the propaganda for AGW continues to weaken.
Anyone wishing to appropriately celebrate Algore's link to Arafat should consider a contribution to Climate Audit. Steve McIntyre continues to furnish excellent critiques on the state of the AGW Emperor's wardrobe.

Come on people, let's get behind Al and make this a democratic run for our money!

Rick,
Dropped my tip in the jar this morning. If only more were aware of Climate Audit. In the not all educators are crazy, my daughter's sixth grade social studies teacher showed the class AIT last year simply to debunk it.

Al Gore and the IPCC disagree about the severity of Global Warming. Gore estimates that sea levels will rise 20 feet or more in this century. The IPCC estimates a rise of 7 to 23 inches. So the disagreement is huge! In fact the positions of 'deniers', like Michael Creighton and Bjorn Lomborg, are much closer to the IPCC on the severity of Global Warming than Al Gore.
So how can they win a prize jointly?

"In the not all educators are crazy"
lpeter,
I use educrat to separate those responsible for setting idiotic policy from the teachers who must spend many additional hours figuring out how to actually teach rather than indoctrinate. There are many teachers who don't make the effort but I respect and admire those who do.
Clarice,
Lets remember that there is no controlling legal authority preventing the favorite of Buddhist nuns from entering the fray. I'm with Sue. I want to see a man who is equal in every way to Yassir Arafat, Jimmy Carter, Mohamed ElBaradei, Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela on the ticket for the
SocialiDemocrat Party. They deserve him, perhaps even more than they deserve another Clinton.Posted by: Rick Ballard | October 12, 2007 at 03:17 PM
Al doesn't deserve anything until he opens a polar bear sanctuary.

'An age of superstitions is a time when people imagine they know more than they do'
--Hayek
I've always noticed the similarities between those who believed that humans could design a better economic system than the free market (as Hayek pointed out, it was never designed, it emerged over time) and those who think they've uncovered the workings of something as complex as our climate.
Heck, understanding a modern economy is kid's play compared to taking apart the world's climate.
Gore may be right. But I'm going to need another source.

"Gore may be right."
Of course Gore isn't right, the whole farrago is a projection based on a computer model, imagine the future predicted by Captcha Check.

I wonder if he will use the monetary prize to hunt down bear-man-pig, half-bear half-man and half-pig.

We have to lobby Al Gore to run! Imagine the chaos as Hillary spins wildly in place, trying to decide whether to run to the left or right of him, her rotation causing Force 5 tornadoes on both coasts...

In all seriousness, one good Hillary scandal and he can get in. And I'm all for that.

Al Gore: He's tanned (thanks to ozone depletion), rested, and ready to assume the royal mantle as the Once and Future King of Camelot.
Meanwhile, in Mordor, Hill-Gollum strokes her Presidential seal and hisses, "It's MINE! My precioussssssssssssssss....."

Al Gore with a Nobel Prize-bet Bill Clinton is so pissed.
Bill can talk to Kim Dae-Jung, he managed to buy his for about 25 million. Maybe Bill needs to get on the ball with his "Initiative"-less talk and more money

If Gore runs, his Global Warming theory will be totaly debunked. Hillary will see to that.
Posted by: Russ | October 13, 2007 at 04:48 AM
We're cooling folks. Sorry, I don't blame Hillary.
The war in Iraq is over, too. The Nobel Peace Prize should go to Canon Andrew White.

British Judge points out errors in Al Gore's advertisement
Al thinks Greenland is going to melt,Greenland is a frigging ISLAND,and its called Green!
Posted by: PeterUK | October 13, 2007 at 02:39 PM
It's still a net loss, Peter. The kids see the whole damaging film, with a short government disclaimer at the front, which doesn't even challenge Gore's main thesis. It's good that the judge looked, fairly, at it, but it is small bread.

Al Gore is a modern-day snake-oil salesman. The Nobel Prize has been devalued for all times now.
I am glad you remarked about Gore's "science" not passing muster with the Nobel science committee. Right on!

Anybody else notice the New York Times and the Boston Globe playing point-counterpoint lately? The New York Times grovels at the pedestal of the Great Gore, and the Globe points out the contrast between what they call the solid science of the IPCC and the fantasies of the Gorebellied Fool.
