"I wonder what Clarence Thomas thinks of Obama."

But see, Uncle Clarence Thomas is not a real black person, according to leftwing definitions.

Technically, Clarence Thomas is a Gullah, which means he is *more* of an authentic black than 99% of other African-Americans (who are on average, only 83% African genetically).

clarice

I agree, Jane--Rove, you genius..You are GREAT on Fox !!!

(another *ugh* mud wrestle,Jane.)

Elliott

With Jane engaging in ex post facto diplomacy, I give Clarice the the early edge.

Elliott

"the the." Oh dear.

GMax

Well we aren't accused of being part of the VRWC for nothing. Rove actually has us all on our own hush hush townhouse memo so that we get the talking points for the day before we post. I know I am particularly lost without them!

Sue

"the the." Oh dear.

Not to worry, Elliott. We all would stutter a little in the presence of the Maginificent Bastard!

I hope he understands we are paying homage to him with that title.

::grin::

clarice

Iy's catching--I told you. Even "edlerly"TM caught it.

clarice

****IT's catching*** (CARP CARP)

Soylent Red

I do hope Soylent sees this!

If HE is reading...

Mr Rove, sir, I swear to Almighty God I meant nothing by it.

And you have a lovely head of hair.

SR

Jane

I give Clarice the the early edge.

Harummph!

Rick Ballard

SR,

I hear those outposts up in the Aleutians are a fine place for a young S4 to sharpen his skills.

For a few years.

Say hi to the walrus for me.

Soylent Red

Say hi to the walrus for me.

Paul McCartney?

And that's S2. At least it was.

Well if you read about my headless body being discovered in some Moroccan drainage ditch, you'll know the Bald Man was displeased.

Sue

The Bald Man series is probably what drew him here to begin with. How could he not love it?

M. Simon

Clarice,

No one would accuse you of an IQ deficiency.

However, with harder work I'm sure you would become a super genius. Except then I'd probably miss all your fine comments here.

So let me just say this (out of self interest) you are smart enough. :-)

Jane

New topic. The Audacity of race - or something like that.

clarice

You are way too kind, M Simon. I am losing what few brain cells I have at a frightful pace I'm afraid. Only the fear that Jane will beat me out to our mutual heart throbs keeps me going.

Enlightened

The Audacity of Rove - Lurking at JOM??????

How sweet it is!

GK

Read this from Winds of Change, about Commonwealth Blacks.

Black Africans in Africa actually consider many African-Americans to be white! LOL

TexasIsHeaven

Ok, I've got it - I have the answer that will solve all of the problems for all those here in our country who hate America, hate living here because it is such a horrible place, and want God to damn us all to hell because we are all evildoers and racists.

We know there are tens of thousands right now that would love to come to America, to live here, work here, raise their families here, become citizens. There are some who are even coming here illegally.

We set up a "Citizen Exchange".

It would be a straight exchange - if you hate living here you simply exchange places with someone who wants to come here. You and your family move into their home, or hovel, or tent or whatever, and they move into yours. Don't have to worry about taking linens, or dishes, or silverware or anything else. It would save all the mess and worrying of moving - just trade places.

How is that for a practical solution?

Then soon the only people living here would be the ones who want to be here.

I must commend myself - I'm surprised no one has thought of this before now.

clarice

TIH, What is America, Love it of Leave it? Though I like your idea.

GK

TexasIsHeaven,

Your idea would be great as a PR stunt. It won't work in practice for obvious reasons - those who hate America are hypocrities who would never go for it - but it would be a great way to expose hypocrisy and stun people.

alfredo

I am a 64 year old mexican american born in Texas. When I was a teen-ager back in early 60s a white friend told me I was a typical mexican. Back then I thought that was a BIG compliment until my older brother "educated" me. Ignorance is bliss...

TexasIsHeaven

Rats! What a bummer - someone has thought of it already.

I see what you are saying Clarice - but if they knew they had a place ready and waiting - maybe that would be all the incentive they would need to go ahead and move.

As for them going willingly - you don't tell them it's a permanent move - - -

clarice

Every day there's a contest in the world--who will get on a sardine box, ride thru shark infested waters to make it alive to American shores. And once here, with nothing, the winners work for a better life--usually for the next generation because it is very hard work and they won't get to fully enjoy the fruits of their labor for themselves. I am sick of people who only whine and moan and won't do anything to help themselves and I gather most of us are, too.

Karl Rove

Good work guys, I love you.

Jane

LOL

I LOVE the link!

clarice

Heh--Jane was the SECOND person to say how good you were on Fox, Karl. Remember who was FIRST.

ben

Keep up the good work at Diebold, Karl.

MayBee

perfect!

Jane

May I remind you Clarice, you are a married woman.

TexasIsHeaven

Alright Karl!

This is the place to be.

This is where you can find out what is really going on - if you really want to know.

centralcal

If Karl Rove "dips in" from time to time, makes ya kinda wonder who else might be?

D'ya think Dick Cheney checks JOM out, too?

Sue

::grin::

Sue

My world would be complete if I thought Dick Cheney was peeking in from time to time. The only American I can think of that I would be jumping up and down to get elected.

centralcal

Since Karl mentioned Instapundit, I wonder if he found JOM through the many links Glen posts?

I agree, Sue, about Cheney!

TexasIsHeaven

Oh wow Sue - I love him and his wife Lynn. I think the only reason he didn't give it a shot was because of his health.

Ann

We are all going to miss Mr. Cheney. I believe I will be in tears the last day he is in office.

However, it's fun thinking about what screen name he would use. I can imagine "Neo Con Hunter" with a link under his name to "Halliburton" ;)

OBAMA already knows he's cooked, thats why he was given the endorsement on thursday by the "new black panthers". OBAMA's plan B is to become the next Jesse Jackson/Rev. KING . With this issue it gives him the credentials of "being held down by the white man/government" He's from/been in the Black liberation church system. He will make more money (as Jesse has) at the top of the black leadership and make millions from corporations that fear being targeted.

jibbajabba

OB supporters,

I reject the notion that someone who is bi-racial is uniquely qualified to see the world through white eyes and black eyes. I don't believe Obama can look at the world as I see it from my experiences as a typical white male (claim made by African Americans all the time about their experience). I presume that blacks who weren't RAISED by a white family would say the same about BO. His only relevant experience to a race discussion is being bi-racial and the challenges presented by that heritage. That is self evident when he makes a statement like "twperson." No one wants to hear that phrase referring to their race...regardless of how innocent the motive.

I'm not offended by the phrase, just amazed that someone who professes to the the Messiah for race relations isn't aware of what is appropriate/inappropriate/insensitive language in 2008. He is no social anthropologist. In fact, he was a money grubbing lawyer (Resko), and now a politician (nothing worse). What gives with the wholesale credibility and benefit of the doubt granted to this man? Is white guilt and pulling for the underdog really what an election should be about?

I mean, I hate the Clintons...but if Hillary says she never sneezed while first lady, the press would be camping out at the archives to find a picture of her sneezing. Hell, Dan Rather might even doctor one up. And just wait until the MSM start in on Mccain (to wit, NYT has started all ready..)!

All I want to know is what associations at Harvard (which progressive/radical professors, which organizations - other than law review). Who were his associations as a state Rep. Liberals can name all of the evil neo-cons and other Bush staff...Who would Obama tap to run, say, the education system...national defense...we don't even have to know the names. Just what school of thought...OK, confession, I also want to know if they will be based on addressing our history's "terrible" history...or, based on appointing the most qualified people. We know nothing about him and everyone is avoiding finding out.

MyShirtSucks.com

Barack Obama called his Grandmother a 'Typical White Person'. Now you can get it on Shirts, Stickers, Hats, Buttons, Mugs and More from TypicalWhitePerson.MyShirtSucks.com

herewegoagain

“the point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person who, you know, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, there is a reaction that has been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and sometimes come out in the wrong way.”

This is the full quote wher Obama reffer to his grand mother as a typical white person. There are two way to intreprete that statement.

1 Is that Obama feels his grand mother is racist because she is afraid of black people. OR

2 Obama feels that, like his grand mother, the typical white person harbors no racial animosity, though to black people it may come off that way because of the way they react when they walk pass a some who fits the steriotype of a typical black man.

Now you decide, which interpretation best suites the statement he made…

davod

herewegoagain: Stop it. If you disemble any more you will start rationalizing Obama's church's theology that Blacks will go to heaven and Whites (Everyone but Blacks) are the anti-Christ. At least with Islam they give you the opportunity to become a Muslim

Just the sort of background you need to bring the races together.

clarice

herewegoagain, I assume that the editor of the Harvard law review and the oartor who makes the MSM cream its undies, could have expressed what you think he meant far more clearly than he did. And since he didn't, that's your notion, not his.

pagar

"Who would Obama tap to run, say, the education system...national defense.."

It is my understanding that his friend William Ayers has some educational background and also some bombing Experience
"
"In fact, Ayers – unrepentant about bombing his own country as he claims – is an establishment figure in the unreconstructed liberal circles in Hyde Park – a hero to many of the University of Chicago faculty and other leftists who reside there. This is the district Obama ran successfully for state senate."

"Ayers and Dohrn are simply the most visible of the far left supporters who propelled Barack Obama’s early political career."

"Neither Ayers nor the Obama campaign would describe the relationship between the two men. Dr. Young described Obama and Ayers as “friends,” but there’s no evidence their relationship is more than the casual friendship of two men who occupy overlapping Chicago political circles and who served together on the board of a Chicago foundation."

"But Obama’s relationship with Ayers is an especially vivid milepost on his rise, in record time, from a local official who unabashedly reflected a very liberal district to the leader of national movement based largely on the claim that he can transcend ideological divides."

"There were other “encounters” with Ayers over the years, including the fact that both men served on a far left foundation as board members:"

" Wondering whether the three may have crossed paths is not speculation. It is a fact that they have. Ayers, Dohrn, and Obama have appeared together at a number of gatherings and academic events."

"In November 1997, Ayers and Obama participated in a panel at the University of Chicago entitled Should a child ever be called a “super predator?” to debate “the merits of the juvenile justice system”.

"In April 2002, Ayers, Dohrn, and Obama, then an Illinois State Senator, participated together at a conference entitled “Intellectuals: Who Needs Them?” sponsored by The Center for Public Intellectuals and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Ayers and Obama were two of the six members of the “Intellectuals in Times of Crisis” panel."

"Ayers, “who in the 1960s was a member of the terrorist group Weatherman and a wanted fugitive for over a decade as a result of the group’s bombing campaign,” is currently the Board Chairman of the Woods Fund of Chicago and Obama is a former Board member."

I don't think he has anyone advising him on
defense. If someone is, than they must be giving him bad advice.

Who remembers the videos of the 101 year old woman being beaten on the head in her lobby for her purse? http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070310/senior_mugged_070310?s_name=&no_ads=

Do you suppose she is a typical white woman who is afraid of black men who follow her into her lobby? How dare she?

kim

'Typical white person' is even more powerful than 'Reporting for Duty'. The latter just pissed off vets, the former pisses of all typical white people, and there are still a lot of them.

Face it, Obama is a racist. Just as Kerry is a coward. And Hillary is a tyrant. To win, McCain just has to act like a typical politician, and he'll seem like a life preserver in comparison. Ah, something familiar.
==================

Sue

Now you decide, which interpretation best suites the statement he made…

Actually, neither. He was trying, without success, to equate his grandmother with a lunatic he can't disown. Didn't work for the 'typical white person'.

Althor

A white woman alarmed at being followed by a black man??? You must be kidding. Nowadays she’d probably turn around and chase lustfully after the hapless black guy! Just look at all the inbred white women fainting, swooning, and having orgasms at Obama rallies - just at the sight of his toothy grin, or the sound of his voice!

It seems that after centuries of clanish inbreeding, sixty years of Civil Rights, Affirmative Action, “political correctness” run amok, societal indoctrination at every level - from schools, to TV programs (nothing but black sit-coms), commercials (with the inevitable black male and white woman), to movies (black Vikings, black Robin Hoods and other historical absurdities), to Rap music and Hip Hop - and, frankly, not color-blindness, but outright favoritism to blacks and their “Hood” subculture, most white American women have not only lost their “racist” inhibitions to interbreed with blacks, but actually have an evolutionary inbred libido (to expand their gene pools I guess) to pant heavily after anything black and run a “Jungle Fever,” like Obama’s mommy did to his “racist” grandmother’s chagrin.

As a matter of fact, nowadays some white women even boast they will not pair up if not with a black man - as a white girl fellow highschool student told my horrified daughter once: “that she wouldn’t date white boys, only black boys” (of course it was all the fad); or you hear them (as I have at work) whispering to each other “black is the best they’ve had” (apparently they were not getting much at all), to the point you feel you are listening to a Eugene O’Neill play gone wild...of course, it is also convenient to have the supply of drugs at home, and that one’s man is not overly concerned about our slothfulness, or overly jealous about our habitual infidelities.

On the other hand, it is pitiful to see many young black men paired up with trashy white women, while disdaining much better looking, far worthier, black women. Just so they can parade their “White Biaches” as if it was the latest pair of Nikes in vogue.

At any rate, the left is ecstatic about all this interracial breeding as much as it is about one of the resulting half-breeds of such pairings, Obama, having a shot at the presidency, after all one of their goals, as they have clearly stated, is the “Browning of America” - whether by interracial breeding or bringing them by the millions from south of the border - to swell their “constituencies.” Only way to outbreed white people into extinction.

After all, God only knows America needs all the resented half-breed, leftist, “Hugo Chávezes” within its borders that it can get! Right?

CrisB

This man is running for the presidency, and is being held less accountable for his words than a talk show host. Where are the Knights of political correctness now? He almost had me fooled. Go Hillary!!

Laika's Last Woof

I have a question: does a "typical white person" apologize and beg forgiveness for not being sensitive enough to understand the subtle nuances of Liberation Theology, or, after hearing Reverend Wright blame them for AIDS and see Obama sticking up for him, does a "typical white person" immediately head for the exit?

fat bas tard

What is a typical white person. if what he was implying is all whites are racist. then why is so many whites supproting him. its time for the OBAMA CULT to wake up now.

Yeah, what does supercilious mean?

clarice

Hitchens really lets Obama have it right in the kisser--

You often hear it said, of some political or other opportunist, that he would sell his own grandmother if it would suit his interests. But you seldom, if ever, see this notorious transaction actually being performed, which is why I am slightly surprised that Obama got away with it so easily. . . . To have accepted Obama's smooth apologetics is to have lowered one's own pre-existing standards for what might constitute a post-racial or a post-racist future. It is to have put that quite sober and realistic hope, meanwhile, into untrustworthy and unscrupulous hands. And it is to have done this, furthermore, in the service of blind faith. Mark my words: This disappointment is only the first of many that are still to come.

http://www.slate.com//id/2187277/pagenum/all

kim

Yes, Hitchens is good, but sometimes he is overly rough on religion. Religion isn't really the problem here, it is Obama's integrity, which is sadly lacking.

clarice

I agree--but he's right about Wright.
TNR has a piece on Wright, too--he was hardly disadvantaged. He grew up in an upper middle-class area of Philadelphia where by choice he attended a mostly white school. His dad was a prominent preacher, his mom the principal of a demanding girls' academy.

How did a guy with this kind of skeleton in his closet get nominated? Maybe it’s a republican plot. I’m so pissed off, I really wanted to vote for this guy. How in the Sam Hell could he just sit there and listen to that for 20 years and then say he doesn’t agree with it? Could it be that there are no other “churches” around?

Laika's Last Woof

"How did a guy with this kind of skeleton in his closet get nominated? Maybe it’s a republican plot."
I sympathize. It must suck to have your candidates constantly self-destruct election after election.
Democrats need to be wary of the "media darling syndrome". Republicans are never media darlings -- not even McCain -- to the degree that the Democrat media favorite is. When the press gives a free pass to their favored candidate it just means the skeletons come out too late for anyone to do anything about it.
If the press had given Obama's church the colonoscopy they gave Mitt Romney's you'd have nominees who stood a real chance of winning the general instead of the last-minute revelation that the nominee was unelectable from the start.

CrisB

It does suck, the screening process needs some improvement.

alex

I oppose all of the previous comments of Obama's speech. I may very well be commenting on an entirely separate blog than I would like but I feel it is essential that people open their eyes. I am a freshman in college and this semester I am taking a Race and Ethnicities class. I have never began to even imagine the racial injustices that have occured against African Americans the way it has in America. Although that may be due to some ignorance, I do believe Obama did an excellent job in adressing what people, for so many years, were blind too. We're in the 21st century people, we need to open our eyes and not let something as petty as a mistakingly worded phrase change our opinion of a remarkable candidate. If we're going to become so sensitive to a "typical white person," I feel it only fair that the past several white americans, who in reality were racist, be brought into our focus as well. The truth hurts, I know, but to say Obama is as racist as his Rev. is to only hear and see what you want. No one has ever addressed race in the eloquent manner that he has, and I believe that is a hell of a start.
Primarily, I think it is important we try to understand what Obama said and why he did. Many people, not only white, did and still do fear black people on the streets but why do you think that is? Perhaps because they have been stigmatized now because of results of the past, yes, slavery. To back some odd years ago when his grandmother committed these acts is to go back to a time when discrimination was very much prevalant, and when he said "typical white person," I do believe he meant a person in that time. I want to add to that and say people in this time. Anyone could sit here and say that they never walked on the other side of the street because of a black male or female, and this may be true, but for too many of us, you're lying to yourselves. Actions speak louder than words, and at the end of the day when you are walking by yourself at night and happen to pass a black person, you KNOW you have at least felt some apprehension; again, that does NOT go for all.

glasater

Alex--I would suggest you go to your major professor and ask that all your good grades be given to the goof off in your class.

kim

I told you Obama was an anachronism. Look at this one, who had no idea until college what went on in the past. It's like opening a classic and discovering that old, I mean really old, people think like humans.

Startling what you can stumble across in the University, isn't it?
===================================

kim

Are you sure you're not a sophomore, alex? You sound like a typical one.
======================

CrisB

"I feel it only fair that the past several white americans, who in reality were racist, be brought into our focus as well." Enlighten me, who after being exposed as a member of an anti-american hate group has been excused and permitted to continue running for a public office (in this case Chief Executive Officer)? Keep yor answer limited to current events, as this is a current event. Try to remember this is not a Controversial morning talk show host that we are talking about. Also try to remember that the whole world is watching. This is a Global embarrassment to all Americans. Where do they find these people (Springer, J.)? I am a Democrat that will once again (probably) have no other choice but to vote Republican. Disgraceful

Ranger

No one has ever addressed race in the eloquent manner that he has, and I believe that is a hell of a start.

I guess you never listened to the "I have a dream" speech by Rev. King?

Jane

We're in the 21st century people, we need to open our eyes and not let something as petty as a mistakingly worded phrase change our opinion of a remarkable candidate.

Didn't your side just spend 8 years doing that to George Bush? Of course you were 10 then, so you can't possibly know.

Ask your professor to tell you the other side of the story Alex. You do know that every story has 2 sides, right? Or is that not something they teach in college these days?

CrisB

I have heard that speech and I wonder why this candidate belongs to a group that does NOT judge individuals by the content of their character but by the color of their skin and in this case also their religion. They are anti-semitic as well. Mabe you should see the value system of the organization that he has been a member of for the past 20 years.

Jane

"Your assignment for this week students, is to find a right leaning blog and post about Obama's greatness. Please print out all adverse replies. You will be graded on who gets the angriest reaction.

Yours,

Ward Churchill"

clarice

Alex,Pls confirm my suspicion that you attend an open admission college--

Soylent Red

I am taking a Race and Ethnicities class.

I think this really says it all.

Alex, drop that class IMMEDIATELY and get thyself over to the Business College. They don't smoke as much weed over there, and capitalist girls aren't as easy, but at least you'll be able to find a job in six or seven years, when you graduate.

At a minimum, drop the class and replace it with Logic and Rhetoric.

Ranger

CrisB,

Sorry, that question was meant for Alex, it just ended up under your post. I like your response to it though. A very good quesiton indeed.

boris

I wish I could be a better person but whenever somebody who looks different than me posts something on the internet my knee just starts jerking and I can't figure out what they mean so I lash out in angry ignorance.

Somebody please help me.

bgates

Alex, allow me to quote from what you may consider one of the Classics:
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

CrisB

Soilent Red,
Good advice.
Ranger,
Thanks, I am honestly trying to make sense out of this mess.

Porchlight

At a minimum, drop the class and replace it with Logic and Rhetoric.

I would echo this excellent suggestion. My rhetoric and logic classes were hands down the two most valuable courses I took in four years of college.

Soylent Red

Yes, yes Porchlight...

But did they indoctrinate you adequately in the Unified Theory of White Guilt?

Porchlight

In the rest of my classes they did! It took me another 10 years, give or take, to emerge from the re-education I received at the hands of that small liberal arts college. But Logic and Rhetoric were taught by stalwart old school guys from a previous generation of teachers, and were much the better (and more useful) for it. Thank goodness.

Rick Ballard

Porchlight,

You came into college with a base upon which Logic and Rhetoric sat quite comfortably. It may well be that in this instance, adding Logic and Rhetoric would be like trying to build an inverted pyramid. The tiny point of self esteem coupled with feeling simply won't support the weight that actual thought would place upon it. This fellow is just an illustration of how a Garth is made. It's life on the short bus for him and we should have some sympathy - it's cruel to suggest that he attempt something which he is incapable of achieving.

GMax

"Based on all the crap I learned in high school its a wonder I can think at all.."

Paul Simon

Who must never have been in an Ethnic studies class or he would have totally rewritten the song.

Alex dont despair, they will eventually push you out into the cold cruel world and you will have to get a job to support yourself and will begin to see through personal interactions, that your Ethnic Studies professor was full of crap and the world is not the two dimensional fantasy that his carefully selected texts imply. It may be a shock but you will survive it. You will laugh someday at how naive and pliable you once were, I do all the time. Tell me does your prof have a single earring and wear birkenstocks even on cold days?

Soylent Red

even on cold days?

with socks of course.

Porchlight

Perhaps, Rick, but you never know where there may be chinks for sunshine to creep in. After all, David Mamet was probably insufferable in college and a short 40 years later has finally begun to see the light.

Then again, one presumes Mamet had a much better education in high school than kids these days. Sigh.

Erin

"Ethnic Studies" is best studied within the context of medicine, and for that matter, all health care providers in training should be mandated to take high level Rhetoric.

laurie

I've always been offened by having to define my ethicity as "white". I'm an Irish, Cherokee, Comanche, Blackfoot, German person that was adopted by a devout Lutheran American/German family. White? . . . well I guess.
More to the point though, anyone that knows me will tell you that I am anything but typical.
Racism is rearing it's ugly head . . but because it comes from a "Black" (sic) ((he's white too you know)) it's not politically incorrect for Obama. . . what if McCain had said it about his white grandmother? hmmm. . . pause to contemplate

laurie

by the way, I got thrown out of Diversity class because I refused to "admit" that since I am "white" I owe the "blacks" anything more than respect. My "folks" weren't freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, they were shipped to Oklahoma, had to finish their endutures and some weren't even in the country yet. The Comanche side were just starved to death.
Stay in the class. .. you'll eventually hear something that makes you angry and realize that you're not responsible for the sins of your fathers. Only for what you do to improve your world.

Laika's Last Woof

"I got thrown out of Diversity class because I refused to 'admit' that since I am 'white' I owe ..."
It takes a certain kind of bravery to do that. It's an old military maxim I believe that goes, "Honor cannot be taken from you -- it can only be given away."
Your honor has a higher price than an "F" in diversity class. America needs more people like you.

Ro

I think Obama was forced by the american public to speak of his family and their racial background. Maybe because some "typical white" americans ARE secretly comfortated by the fact that he's got white relatives. I don't believe for one minute that the race of his grandparents hold any baring on his qualifications to be president. So maybe everyone should stop forcing the issue. It's a touchy subject, i'm sure. Give the man a break if he doesn't word everything to "typical" standards
