“I would like a world of direct democracy,” said one man, who gave his name only as Alex, as he was led away by officers, thus demonstrating how wise the Founders were to give us nothing of the sort, lest passionate fools like Alex end up running things.

FoxNews ran segment this morning from St. Paul, MN entitlted - A Cause, but No Clue -- of GOP protestors who were unable to identify prominent GOP leaders from photos.

First up a photo of Dick Cheney (spotted the dood that he was V.P. for the past 7+ years, first name "Dick," lived in Naval Observatory...Blank stare), and Mitt Romney (again hints: former Gov. of Mass., first name of a piece of baseball equipment -- a mitt -- to which the doodette wondered aloud: "a mitt, a mitt...") and finally when the reporter told her "It's Mitt Romney" she shrugged and said: "Don't know him."

Priceless.

Barney Frank

“I would like a world of direct democracy,”

Isn't a nightstick to the noggin when you violate a law about as direct as democracy gets?

Charlie (Colorado)

So, Clarice, where is everyone?

JM Hanes

Typepad has been eating my posts, maybe others are having the same problem.

Pofarmer

Hello?

Elliott

CNN says Lieberman will emphasize new campaign theme: Change Washington, not American.

Allow me, to borrow a line from Jane: Love it, love it, love it!

And, borrowing from TM, once more, with feeling: Love it, love it, love it!

JM Hanes

Just between us, I cried when they started out with "America is a love story."

Elliott

American s/b America.

hit and run

Yes, JMH.

You would not believe how brilliant I've been too.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Present :)

Sara (Pal2Pal)

A woman Navy Captain, a woman Captain firefighter.

JM Hanes

Or, borrowing from M. Simon & bubarooni (sp??), Elliott:

♥ ⚘ ♥ ⚘ ♥ ⚘ ♥ ⚘ ♥ ⚘ ♥ ⚘ ♥

clarice

So much trouble on this site tonight..Voight and Gingrich both raised CAC tonight.

JM Hanes

Pofarmer:

Tried to answer your question about whether they had all Conservative commentary at the Dem convention in the other thread. Yes, pretty much, that's what CNN did, a sort Fairness Doctrine in action, I suppose.

clarice

Colmes seems a bit chastened or maybe the tons of emails he got describing Ob/gyn problems has nauseated him so much he is tongue tied.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Leslie Smith is powerful.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Are you guys watching cspan? Neat stuff. Getting in the asthma dig.

JM Hanes

Hey, I recognize that "Why not me?" approach. First heard it from a car crash victim (not impugning the speaker, in any way!). I think it's an important idea, and something it would help more folks to contemplate.

Rick Ballard

Did Voight and Gingrich focus on CAC's failure or on the fact that it was an Ayers/Obama political ploy?

Charlie (Colorado)

Hmmm. okay, is this working?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Let's see asthma, 5 deferrments. Asthma, Medal of Honor winner Michael Mansoor.

M. Simon

JMH,

What is the flower code?

Put it up with spaces.

Charlie (Colorado)

Did I get this correctly, that Obama has scheduled his long-delayed talk with O'Reilly on Thursday night?!

And O'Reilly went with it?

I can't decide which of them I think is more despicable.

I dunno, I wouldn't piss John and Sarah off if I were Obama.

RichatUF

Did Voight and Gingrich focus on CAC's failure or on the fact that it was an Ayers/Obama political ploy?

I didn't catch Gingrich, but Voight focused on the Ayers connection.

JM Hanes

M. Simon:

It's the hex code: & # x 2698

Pofarmer

I'm just gonna reiterate. This Shields guy from the NY Times is a class A slime ball.

And David Brooks is about the most Sheepish "Conseravtive" I've ever seen.

JM Hanes

Obama must be really pissed that McCain stepped on his Invesco moment!

clarice

Ploy,Rick..And in contrast to the media's coverage of Palin.

hit and run

Rick, I just saw Voight, he was mostly about Ayers unrepentant terrorist and deep ties.

Then again, I was jumping up and down on my laptop at the time, so I may have been distracted and missed some of what he said.

Pofarmer

Did I get this correctly, that Obama has scheduled his long-delayed talk with O'Reilly on Thursday night?!

And O'Reilly went with it?

I can't decide which of them I think is more despicable.

I dunno, I wouldn't piss John and Sarah off if I were Obama.

Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me.

What a bunch of assholes. And he was miffed at McCain naming his VP the NEXT DAY?

JM Hanes

I like our backdrop a lot better than the Dems' rockstar stage.

hit and run

JMH:
I like our backdrop a lot better than the Dems' rockstar stage.

Well you did your part to make it better!
(the Pepsi center stage, that is)

JM Hanes

Republicans actually like women.

Charlie (Colorado)

What a bunch of assholes.

Especially O'Reilly. That mother ... er, that sonuvabitch must have known he was being used, but it was more important to say he'd had the interview even if he had to play along.

JM Hanes

Wouldn't change a thing with this one, hit. :-)

Charlie (Colorado)

how about Palin & Bush in 20212. Sarah and Laura.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Go Laura

Charlie (Colorado)

Uh, 2012.

Jane

Obama is on at 8:00 McCain at 10:00. He would have been smarter to sit down with Greta on Wednesday when Palin speaks.

JM Hanes

Laura defends her man. You go girl!

Pofarmer

What a bunch of assholes.

Especially O'Reilly. That mother ... er, that sonuvabitch must have known he was being used, but it was more important to say he'd had the interview even if he had to play along.

I dunno Charlie. I'm not sure that Bill's that bright.

JM Hanes

Hope it turns out to be O'Reilly's lowest audience share in history.

sbw

Who cares about Thursday's schedule. No one will watch O'Reilly to see Obama and no one will watch Obama to see O;Reilly.

Charlie (Colorado)

If he says anything about McCain and Palin except to congratulate them, I swear I'm sending another hundred bucks to the RNC.

hit and run

Charlie:
That mother ... er, that sonuvabitch must have known he was being used, but it was more important to say he'd had the interview even if he had to play along.

Nothing is ever not about O'Reilly, if you are O'Reilly.

He'll get good ratings, and that's good for O'Reilly.

(for a fleeting second I thought, oooh, wouldn't it be kewl if he had a good line of questions about CAC...but then, well, that's probably just the consequence of banging my noggin on my laptop repeatedly)

Charlie (Colorado)

"When he was released, his arms had been broken -- but not his honor."

Ann

The angry left... OUT OF THE PARK!

Elliott

Okay, but what about the collective wisdom of the NYT and WaPo editorial boards?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Go W!

Charlie (Colorado)

"Believe me, I know."

Chortle.

JM Hanes

Cindy McCain has never looked lovelier.

Charlie (Colorado)

{ the collective wisdom of the NYT and WaPo editorial boards } ≡ ∅

Elliott

I very much appreciate that Bush addresses his audience as "fellow citizens" and not "America," "St. Paul," or "Sioux City."

Charlie (Colorado)

Or, as Obama would have is, "serfs".

clarice

I love George and Laura--a class act.

Pofarmer

definately more positive message than that other convention.

JM Hanes

Kind of puts complaining about paying off college loans in perspective, doesn't it?

Ann

Ditto Clarice.

JM Hanes

What other convention?

Charlie (Colorado)

Jason at Countercolumn is on fire today.

The difference between Executive experience and Legislative experience.
In a nutshell: Executives don't get to vote "present."

Jane

Hmmm Reagan was a sportscaster first. Sort of reminds me of a certain candidate for VP.

JM Hanes

Indecision vs. Conviction Politics. Take that David Brooks!

Charlie (Colorado)

I also recommend 4 Block World.

JM Hanes

Steelworkers, lunchbox construction workers!

Charlie (Colorado)

Hmmm Reagan was a sportscaster first. Sort of reminds me of a certain candidate for VP.

Ooh, good point.

I hear heads exploding all over Cambridge MA, Boulder, and Berkeley.

JM Hanes

***lunch bucket***

M. Simon

Testing.

Sue

Fred!

sbw

Yay! Fred!

Pofarmer

Teh Fred

Whooo, hooo.

JM Hanes

Let's compare Fred!'s endorsement of McCain with Hillary endorsing Obama, shall we?

JM Hanes

Charlie: I can hear them all the way over here in North Carolina.

hit and run

Clarice:
I love George and Laura--a class act.

Amen.

I love Fred, too.

But Bush has my eternal respect.

Pofarmer

You got it, JM Hanes.

Charlie (Colorado)

GET'EM FRED!!!

Porchlight

Fred is teh roxxor!

Jane

Go Fred! Take that you Obamatwit!

clarice

When I need someone to warm up the crowd for me, I want Fred.

sbw

Despite challenges, the greatest country. Home run.
Sarah Palin who's actually governed. Home run.
Other sides and the media in a panic. Home run.

Charlie (Colorado)

Charlie: I can hear them all the way over here in North Carolina.

That's Duke. I expect the entire Sociology Department is in the ER right now.

Charlie (Colorado)

Hah, I said that first.

Sue

Field dress a moose!

Charlie (Colorado)

"Field dress a moose." I mean.

hit and run

I am ::this:: close to getting a tingle up my leg.

Ann

My heart is melting all over again.

sbw

The only candidate in history who knows how to field dress a moose. (Except for TR). Home run.
Drain the Washington swamp. Home run.
McCain character. Home run.

JM Hanes

Thank you Fred.

clarice

hit--you're always a tingle.

Pofarmer

No Chickenhawk argument for McCain.

Where was this Fred during the Primaries?

Charlie (Colorado)

∫ Sarah Palin's experience as gov - ∫ Obama's experience as a campaigner = ∞

Charlie (Colorado)

"A record to be beaten." "Leader of the troublemakers."

You know, this guy could run for President.

Charlie (Colorado)

I'm sorry, I don't care what he flew --- he's a fighter jock.

Pofarmer

I'm picking up on the theme of a few of the subtle difference between McCain and his, uh, opponent.

Charlie (Colorado)

The depressing thought is that to Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the Clintons, I think this whole speech is like a grownup speaking in a Peanuts cartoon: waugh wuagh waugh....

Sue

Man, Fred tells a good story.

Pofarmer

John McCain knows about hope.

Hell, Yeah.

clarice

What a speech!!

hit and run

"Two questions we'll never have to ask ourselves. Who is this man, and can we trust him with the presidency"

Pofarmer

Damn.

Fred's gonna get me excited about McCain.

I almost feel----violated.
