Kennedy is a rabble rouser and a zealot. An environmental fascist.

In addition, lad Robert is not especially bright. All in all, he's a danger to Mother Gaia and us earthlings. Is *this* the change we can believe in? Pfui!

jimrhoads aka vnjagvet

I think, Sue.

bad

Rick, what an incestuous little world. And they rant on about Cheney, Rove and Bush. Good Lord, help us all.

Planisdontbeleiveme

Foreign policy is give away free money. 100s of billions over a five year budget voted on before the US government's and the presidential election. How they elect more dems.

Obama has no plan for Georgia other than an instant billion more billions to re arm to pre war levels, the highest in the region.

Polar bears are drowning and that's a bad thing to say.

Pofarmer

I'd belly crawl across broken glass for Sarah Palin and I intend to send an email to that effect to here AK.gov box in a couple weeks when things cool down a little. If there's anything a MO dirt farmer can do to help a future Palin campaign, I'm in.

Ann

Rick,

Another thing we need to address which will probably be the hardest but the most important is the whole farce of "Republicans are racist bigots".

Since when do we have to celebrate a socialist getting elected no matter what color. I am happy that Juan William's is finally proud of his country. Where was he during the trial for Clarence Thomas, the elections for Ken Blackwell, Lynn Swann and Michael Steele. Has he ever read Thomas Sowell?

The abhorrent treatment of Sarah Palin also needs to be addressed. Black republicans are called Uncle Toms and they made Sarah into Auntie Tom.

We need to stand up and get the media, to hire and put in prominent positions more women, small business owners and black Americans that can speak for Sarah Palin, Joe the Plummer, and Clarence Thomas. We can call it "The Vision" vs "The View" :)

We could use the Jesse Jackson model for concerned citizens that will make companies miserable unless they make us happy model. I also would like to start a Buckeye movement to combat Acorn.

You can tell I am not over the election but thinking forward, comrade!

Supermajoritysupergate

Let's not finish. Obama's plan.

We need to make him because Bill got made over the dope....................

jimrhoads aka vnjagvet

Funny story:

On the way back from shopping for groceries tonight, I saw a McCain/Palin sign. It was modified by a paste-over to read, "Cheney/Palin".

Cincinnatus

Hopefully China won't get too many secrets this time around.

Jor

Fox News is dishing lots of trash on Palin --- they are throwing her waaaaaaaaaaay under the bus. NOW THEY TELL US. I'm sure TM was going to get around to posting that.

Bill

Obama has a problem in Iraq. The philosophical basis for his campaign and the financial basis for his programs require an early end to the war in Iraq. But, if he begins a lengthy withdrawal, the troops will be placed in jeopardy. As Kerry famously said about Vietnam, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"

jimrhoads aka vnjagvet

JOR the troll will get no satisfaction with that line of BS.

Sute

Obama did allot of crack or powder or whatever and see what they did to Bill? That was dope, not coke.

China? It's already done. Obama was taken care of for two years by Congress. The mortgages and lawsuits and they forgot China? Merrill had the timing so right...........

Jor

BTW Palin apparently didn't realize Africa was a continent and not a country. HEH. McCain's aides are saying she refused to prep for Couric's interview and that's why she looked like a Moron. Also -- TM's favorite friend Ayers was brought up by Palin before anyone wound up approving it high up. GOOD JOB TM!. \

Obama has a problem in Iraq...if he begins a lengthy withdrawal, the troops will be placed in jeopardy.

I don't see where Obama would think of that as his problem.

Cold feet. Obama is scared and wants the CIA to write his brothers checks.

Obama's aids are forcing me to see again........

Su

Punks, whores and cowards. Does someone have an address?

A little crack never hurt anyone.....

Pofarmer

Jor, they used 6 minutes of a two hour interview.

Now,

Go the Fuck away.

Rick-

RFK Jr is also buddy buddy with Putin. here seems he rented his services to "clean up" the Russian environment. I do remember him having something going on with PDVSA and that "free heating oil" scam that Hugo was running for a while. Can't seem to find a link though.

Ann-

The whole "racism" thing is going to be brought to a slow boil as everything that comes at the Obama Administration's way will be blamed on racism and previous administrations mistakes. This is going to be an ugly 4 years-Obama is more of an indolent prince than Bill Clinton and much more an orthodox New Leftist.

One thing that might be worth doing is hit the Obama Administration's guide books: Das Capital, Rules for Radicals, 48 Rules of Power, Orientalism-informing people of the contents of these books and the failures derived from them gives us the advantage of knowing the enemy.

Another thing is a "Cold War History Project"-it sometimes amazes me when people repeat various yarns that were nothing but KGB propaganda. Name names, name their deeds, and call them traitors.

prtymbl

The whole Carl Cameron story smells to high heaven. Every "incident"/"anecdote" Carl reports seems so out of character for Sarah Palin.

Failing to corroborate the story with Palin herself, he should have been a bit more dispassionate in reporting the story. His glee was too obvious and so unbecoming and unprofessional. None of the typical caveats were mentioned (as to un-sourced, non-commented on stories).

Carl was too quick out of the box, gleefully reporting this crap. This is not the first time he has been indiscreet in reporting or commenting on events he is covering. So that should be factored in as well.

I would recommend to FOX that they sincerely evaluate his job performance to see if he is maintaining the standards to which the network claims it holds. I also expect the program hosts that permit him to spew this crap to be scrutinized as to whether they appropriately assessed the "scoops" that Carl was reporting. By not challenging what Carl was reporting un-sourced, undermines their credibility as well. Greta was the only one to express skepticism.

FOX News should be very embarrassed to have this story reported in the form and tone it was. Lacking anything other than named sources, they should have been very cautious, and not shopping this shite on every FOX program. Carl seemed to simply accept these stories at face value and never questioned the motives behind the sources (at least on air he did not). A critical failing in any journalist worth his salt.

Carl Cameron, absolute hack.

Pofarmer

Allright, this shit with the media is really seriously, intractably, irritably, infuriatingly, gratingly, mendaciously, pissing me off.

New headline from MSNBC

Too many soldiers in new care centers

In a rush to correct reports of substandard care for wounded soldiers, the Army flung open the doors of new specialized treatment centers so wide that up to half the soldiers currently enrolled do not have injuries serious enough to justify being there, The Associated Press has learned.

Army leaders are putting in place stricter screening procedures to stem the flood of patients overwhelming the units — a move that eventually will target some for closure.

Fuck, I mean really, fuck. There is no making these Morons happy. None, Nada, ZIP.

Asshats.

Laura

I seem to remember that in 2000 precisely the same slur was thrown against Bush -- that he didn't know Africa was a continent rather than a country. Ridiculous as it was, it helped begin the "Bush is an idiot" meme. If my memory is correct, it would appear that this slur against Palin has even less credibility than it has on its face.

RichatUF

Bill-

The philosophical basis for his campaign and the financial basis for his programs require an early end to the war in Iraq.

And that is the problem right there. Half the funding is salary for the troops-it is a bit distorted with bonuses, special skills, and hazard pay-but when they go back to Germany and the States, the salaries are still there. Its always been a bullshit argument: the Iraq War is running at 8.4 billion or so a month and did punch Islamic terror in the gut. If we'd listened to the anti-war crowd we'd still have planes being shot at, war ships being bombed, and the UN cashing in their Iraqi oil bribes.

How much has been squandered by HHS, ED, or my favorites-Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac since 2003?

Captain Hate

The whole Carl Cameron story smells to high heaven. Every "incident"/"anecdote" Carl reports seems so out of character for Sarah Palin.

You mean like answering the hotel door in a bathrobe or a towel when you know goddamn well a secret service person would be performing that function as part of their fucking jobs? God how dumb do you have to be to work in journalism? Smart enough to get over on skidmarks like Jor I guess.

jimrhoads aka vnjagvet

Jor:

Cameron's Fox story has been gone over with a fine tooth comb here. Our collective wisdom is that it is BS. You are a day late and a dollar short. Besides your guy won. What's the point?

Captain Hate

Besides your guy won. What's the point?

And I remember Bush not knowing there were any black people in Brazil.

And something similar about Condoleeza Rice.

It's the same stuff warmed over. Only Democrats are ever intellectual. We should be used to this by now.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I want to know what Obama will want to do next? He has no staying power, quits and moves on in about a 3 year cycle from everything he's ever done. So what happens when this whole president thing gets boring or is more work than he realized.

peter jackson

You guys should chill. You need to realize that Obama and the Democrats have no idea what they're doing; if you stay out of their way and make sure they're well supplied with rope, they'll take care of themselves, and good too.

The more urgent action item for the Republicans is to rebuild themselves and their agenda. When voters start looking to throw the bums out in '10, the Republicans have to be ready with something to replace the bums with. That was Newt's genius in '94. He knew the Dems were going to overreach, and he made sure the GOP was ready.

bgates

I seem to remember that in 2000 precisely the same slur was thrown against Bush -- that he didn't know Africa was a continent rather than a country.
Ha! And then he tripled spending on AIDS programs for there, even though he thought it was just one country! That means he's even stupider, for some reason!

bgates

The more urgent action item for the Republicans is to rebuild themselves and their agenda.
That's the most important thing, and a small part of that is getting more party loyalty. Specifically, the people behind Carl Cameron's hit piece are a cancer on the party. Ace thinks it was Steve Schmidt. The only person I can think of who's in a position to ask him is Byron York. I'd encourage anyone else who would like to know who Cameron's anonymous coward leak is to write byork at nationalreview.com and suggest this would be a great story for him to investigate.

Sorry. Yeesh.

2010 will be like 1994 , Obama can not keep any of his promises because the recession has only started. We haave not yet seen the deep plunge in the commercial reqal estate market and its snowball effect from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

If house goes Repub in 2010 then do investigation of Rezko in summer of 2012 with no impeachment. Nominate Rudi if he cleaned up Dinkin's mess he can clean Obama's also.

I would like comments about the secular messiah's use of mysterious sign language as abackdrop to the FCC v. Fox Television Stations case . In addition to the study that relates increase teenage pregnancy to content of television programming. It is not the abortion issue but the slippery slope to Soddom and Gemorrah.

And something similar about Condoleeza Rice.

It cuts both ways. There was a particularly nasty rumor a few months ago that Obama didn't know what languages were spoken in Afghanistan.

On this blog a day or so after Palin was nominated I outlined on this blog what would happen if McCain won the election. In short I wrote taht McCain would force Palin out of office with the TrooperGate scandal as pretext and then install his VP of choice. McCain did not want Palin on the ticket. She was forced upon him by social conservatives. Now in light of McCain's loss which was largely due to Palin's ineptness do you think McCain wont be looking to get even with the religious right?

Chris

"Now in light of McCain's loss which was largely due to Palin's ineptness do you think McCain wont be looking to get even with the religious right?"

Source on that one? What? A CNN poll. Sure thing. Palin didn't "cost" McCain anything. She probably kept him from getting blown out. If you want to speculate on what "cost" the election for JM, you might want to start with the greatest financial calamity in generations and work backward from there. But then that's not your point? So what is your point?

Geography:

Gosh, isn't it amazing how Sarah, the daughter of school teachers, was able to keep them from knowing that she didn't know Africa was a continent, but instead thought it was a country. And she was able to keep that a secret in College, and as PTA President, and as a Hockey-mom, and as a Mayor, and during all those grueling debates with Governor Murkowski and Governor Knolls and Senator Biden and Katie Couric and Tina Fey and Charlie what's his name and everybody else in the MSM and in Alaska and on planet Earth, but then some unnamed McCain stooge was s'posedly able to ferret it out of her, and low and behold when it was annonymously whispered to Carl Cameron he bought it. Yep, that's proof positive that someone in this scenario is one complete dumb-ass. Guess who?

Wait, I take it all back. Didn't Bush say something about Saddam and yellow cake from Niger, and didn't the Press say Niger was Africa or that Africa was Niger or one was the other or both or none, and wasn't it all at Dick Cheney's Behest?

Yeah, I heard that too.

Oh, and by the way, Obama thinks his Aunt lives somewhere in Kenya...some town I think called Boston, Massachusetts. That being the case, it seems to me Sarah was correct all along. And if Obama can see Kenya from Dorchester, then why the hell can't Sarah see Russia from Alaska?

The problem with social conservatism with respect to candidates winning elections is that it gets the monkeys screaming. That does not help win elections. Soothe the monkeys.

Tell what you want to accomplish.

1. Clean out the corrupt - Start with our own house.
2. Fiscal responsibility
3. We don't want to change your life - we want to get government out of it RR (Except for his drug war BS - maybe we can correct that flaw. We are in effect financing a war against ourselves on our Southern border. This is at minimum considered militarily inept.)

You know why I just love Palin to death? I think she can convince socons to do the right thing.

M. Simon

Shall we wait until the results are certified and then start working from there on a common data base:

With about 6 or 10 items relating to the election. vote totals %. The issues of the winner and loser etc. Money spent.

No we shouldn't wait. The info will be easier to find when it is fresh.

M Simon,

I agree. Take a page from Obama, and run on fiscal conservatism, tax reform, etc. Don't run on social issues. If asked about them, the candidate says they have personal views, of course, but this is all "a distraction from the important economic work ahead."

Same with any controversial stuff over churches..."distractions..."

Why do you think McCain would have done better without Palin. He still didn't pull as many votes as Bush. She brought out the base. How many votes do you think he would he have gotten without her? What I think isn't the point. What McCain thinks is the point. And McCain is pissed that the social conservatives gave him the ultimatum that either he pick Palin or they were staying home. He is going to get revenge for unreciprocated loyalty. He has backed social conservatives on their core issues throughout his career. He figures he deserved the loyalty of the social conservatives and he deserved his choice for VP. He's pissed because he didn't get it after he gave so much.

Mark my words he's going to get his revenge. Revenge is his stock and trade.

Sam,

As part of your argument you say, "He (McCain) backed social conservatives on their core issues throughout his career."

I believe social conservatives might pick a nit or two with that pronouncement. As potential contradictions to your argument, let me offer the following:

McCain Feingold;
Gang of 14 for the Judges;
Amnesty for Illegal Alien's;
Closing Gitmo;
Cessation of WaterBoarding tactics for suspected terrorists.

I certainly see a large swath of American political society swooning over that agenda, but I don't know if I'd identify them as Social Conservatives.

From Samizdata.Ways of dealing with Obama.

"First, demonize him and ascribe his motives to evil and malfeasance, not just policy differences. We should proclaim often and loudly that he is not our president, that he stole the election and he has no mandate. We should repeat false stories about him, no matter how crazy or wrong, until they are accepted as common wisdom. We should create lies and urban legends to smear him and demean him. We should ridicule any verbal slips or gaffes, and ascribe them to his native stupidity and intellectual vapidity. We should accuse him of every sin and crime under the sun and attempt to have him impeached for policy differences, which we should call crimes. We should undermine any programs he wants to pass by misstating their goals and content. We should take quotes out of context to make him seem ridiculous and to make him seem mean-spirited. We should repeat often that he doesn't care about people who aren't the same race as he is, and that he is only out for his own kind. We should claim that he is going to try to force a coup and take over the country by force. We should claim he's going to lock up any dissenters. We should loudly scream about losing our rights and interfere with his speechs and disrupt any gatherings of his party. Our politicians should cynically misstate his policies to make him look bad."

Yes,treat him just like the Democrats treated George Bush.

Annabelle

I'm all for the change thing, so long as I actually know what it is...
I spoke with my financial advisor today about looking at all low-tax stocks before Jan. and potential cap gains hikes.
Then I heard--be still my heart--that the "change" comin' might be "retroactive" tax cuts (Rubin). Hold on to your savings everyone.
Funny though that the big name sports stars and their agents are already worried about how to "shelter" their assets. Didn't they get the message from Joe Biden that they are "unpatriotic" if they're not willing to pony up a lot of dough for the "change" thing?
The next few months will be tough for the One: either he will deliver on a centrist agenda (that one him election) or he'll cave into the moveon/left agenda of the dems in Congress. I pray he takes the first course, for the good of my country, but I'm NOT drinking the Coolaid.
As for foreign policy, or indeed any of the cabinet chairs/political appointments: BE VERY SCARED people if you go to work for him and ANYTHING gets screwed up in your sector of the executive branch! The buck will not stop with Obama on anything (thanks to his adoring press) and YOU will join innumerable people under the bus.

Oops...reading the previous post I meant to say "tax hikes": must be a hangover from those horrible Bush years...

The Republicans need to rebrand from the party of religious conservatives to the party of smaller government.

That is the essence of the Goldwater/Reagan approach to politics.

I'm all for an anti-abortion plank for the Republican Party like this:

We believe strongly in the sanctity of life but, we also believe abortion is none of the Federal Government's business and that it should be left up to the States, within the limits of the Constitution, to regulate it. We think adoption should be encouraged and will do our best to see that it happens more often.

HoosierDaddy

What happened to the $10 billion a month we're spending in Iraq that we need to be spending here? Were all those ads I was bombarded with ad nauseum about ending the war just window dressing?

I'm wondering of Cindy Sheehan will be gate crashing and demanding the troops home NOW!

M. Simon

OK,

We need about 7 million votes. Where do we get gain them and still keep our coalition together.

Didya hear about the new 527 group that Obama is setting up to counter his unhappy supporters?

It's called "Moveonfromchange.org."

fdcol63

Between now and inauguration, Israel will attack Iran.

They will do so during this period because they will use this narrow window to do what they must to prevent the existential threat of a nuclear Iran and they know that President Obama will do everything he can to interfere with this once in office.

They are thus left with the option of getting whatever support they can from the US while Bush remains in office.

Continuing to hope that the "international community" will do anything to prevent a nuclear Iran is no longer an option, especially with a potentially looming US withdrawal from Iraq that will ensure more Iranian influence there.

fdcol63

We'll see streets, schools, and other public buildings named after Obama soon, too.

the party of smaller government.

I agree, but here's the problem. I've looked at the 2008 election map. It's about like the 04 map. It's a see of red with blue dots, and a few blue areas. There's a whole lot of the country that belives in MORE govt, and when more govt doesn't work, they're gonna vote for even MORE govt. Smaller govt means actively cutting stuff, and you're gonna hear baby killer stories galore. Gov. Blunt cut Medicaid funding in MO because it was filled with fraud, built a new program and restarted it. He was savaged for it, but it saved the state money. Pissed of conservatives are fairly quite. Pissed off big govt liberals tend to riot.

Who would think that Washington D.c. would be more catty and small minded than Wasilla and Alaska. Well, considering they spent revenue before it was even collected; took forever to actually fund the troops in the field, sabotaged our intelligence gathering
programs, have refused to authorize energy exploration in more than three decades. That should have been a clue,
The patterns laid out by Beldar, based on the Kaylee Johnson book, the New Yorker slam, that really showed her credentials, the sliming job by French, Green, Halcro, for the nerve to challenge their pro-rogatives, the "Mean Girls" pettiness of Tina Fey,her sizable crowds where ever she went. They truly feared her, much like the

expectations set forth; however, that would be like with millions of other families, at their discretion, not government edict.

Meanwhile, the real usurper, the sorcerer's apprentice is giving every opportunity, and every benefit of the doubt. While he plays all those millenia old chords of resentment

Yes, but that's been the case at least since my school days in the late 80s, and probably going back to the 60s or earlier. Heck, I WAS one of them for a long time, until about the time I was called a racist for suggesting that OJ was probably guilty and if convicted should get life, if not get fried.

College is the time in life to try all sorts of ridiculous political philosophies on for size. It's natural. Disillusionist

I read here a lot, post here occasionally. I'm telling my daughters that if they want to see how world politics worked in the old days, just watch. You'll get to see how empires used to get built.

Here's my prediction for Obama's first month in office:

Around 10:00 PM EST on Inauguration Day (nice and early in Russia) there's an outbreak of hostilities on the Russian-Ukrainian border. Medvedev announces some obviously B.S. reason requiring Russian troops to restore order/repel invasion/etc. For 24 hours, Obama calls everyone he knows asking them what he should do. By this time, Russian troops are 50 miles inside the Ukraine. Ukrainian air forces no longer exist. Obama decides to call meeting of U.N. Security Council. Discovers Russia has veto power. Another 24 hours go by. Russian troops now 125 miles inside Ukraine. Every Ukrainian politician you've ever heard of has either fled the country or gone missing permanently. Russia agrees to U.N. peacekeeping force to monitor cease-fire agreement. Peacekeepers notice that Russian troops are continuing to head west. "Not to worry, comrades, Russians always know right direction." Russians take Kiev. Medvedev announces formation of temporary Ukrainian government to restore order, led by some guy no one in the West has ever heard of. After about a month, new Ukrainian government signs treaty of Peace, Love, and Eternal Friendship with Russia. Over the next 6 months, bitterly, but seeing which way the winds are blowing, Moldava, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia do the same thing. Europe discovers that the majority of their oil and natural gas imports are now controlled by a single entity - Gazprom. The Dow drops below 6,000.

Welcome to the world of Hope and Change.

Simon,

There must be someplace in the blog universe with a higher interest in the libertarian hog pen morality crap which drives Christian conservatives away in droves. Why don't you look for it and play there?

The Republicans don't need "if it feels good, do it" libertarian loud mouths. They never have and they won't in the future. The reason that they don't and won't is that every libertarian I've ever read is at heart a 15 year old adolescent with a copy of "Stranger in a Strange Land" in his pocket and a teenagers lust in his heart, looking for a nice world without consequences.

As a simple matter of arithmetic, the number of jerk off adolescent philosopher kings keen to see every man his very own Idaho is insufficient to carry an election. The type of immaturity espoused requires far too febrile an imagination to ever reach a level of popularity which would interest a politician actually wanting to be elected.

I don't care what you do, with whom you do it or anything else about you. Neither do Christian conservatives in general. It is enough that you foul your own nest and not litter the commons. Nor do Christian conservatives care to shove their religion down the the throats of the entire population. Most of them understand the parable of the seeds too well to be concerned beyond praying for the 75% who aren't going along for the entire journey.

Their concern about abortion is focused upon the unheard voice of the truly innocent, if no one else will speak for the mute victims of legal homicide, they must.

This may be true, but this is not about control.

This is about learning to understand what is important and explain why; about learning what hasn't worked in history and why.

This is about learning grammar, logic, and rhetoric in addition to subjects, because those are the tools used to detect substance in the midst of noise.

After that, control will follow from greater consensus.

-- Do nothing and lose.

-- Become like them and win... which means society doesn't advance and you lose.

-- Remove the tools they use to steal power by disinfecting with sunshine and useful education.

Rick Ballard,

Republicans need 6.5 million votes. I suppose a purge of the party will definitely increase its vote totals.

Of course if you want the Monkeys Screaming every time the R brand is mentioned push it as the morality party. Heck if it gets bad enough I might join the democrats as more fertile ground. No doubt that would be a net plus.

I say rebrand as the fiscally conservative party - and mean it - and leave the social conservatism to the people - where it belongs.

I propose enlarging the tent. My ideas may not be a net plus. But the idea that it is time for a purge is what happens every 2 years about this time. Win or lose.

We can all agree (cant we?) about the economic conservative message. Why not base the party on that?

You know why I just love Palin to death? I think she can convince socons to do the right thing and enlarge the tent. The tent poles are economic conservatism.

And if the cultural conservative issues are so important please explain where was the Republican landslide in CA?

Well any way I'm not calling for purges of anyone. I'm trying to work on a core message that will bring more people into the party.

Why not economic teach ins on colleges? Free To Choose lectures?

therantanypeopletherleavethemalone

-It's not a sin for lucifer to kill for you, is it? Anyway God forgives and churches absolve and it's not like it's the government doing it. Congress 'set up' Obama and he's an unborn baby again, the mortgage law suits were expensive for those banks that bailed at the right time with the federal backing guaranteed to foreigners.........not that anyone's died for our sins.........

M. Simon

And why do I hang here instead of a more congenial place? Why did Jesus spend his time with sinners? They were the people who needed it most.

This is about learning grammar, logic, and rhetoric in addition to subjects, because those are the tools used to detect substance in the midst of noise.

Now, it's not that I disagree. But it's gonna be an uphill struggle to make this a majority position in the U.S. There is a signifigant population that simply doesn't give a shit about all that, and they vote. This is one of my problems with team sports. We are developing legions of followers. Nobody is developing the leaders.

jean

Clarice. you are assuming McCain doesn't already know and accept what is being said. The more conservatives are pushed aside the more powerfull a Mavericky Moderate becomes.

M. Simon

sbw,

Where we most became like then was on economic matters. Once that is straight and well in hand for a generation or more then we can dissolve into various factions on social issues and let the Ds win again.

Pofarmer

-- Remove the tools they use to steal power by disinfecting with sunshine and useful education.

How?

Rick Ballard

Clarice,

Wouldn't help. McCain is an egotistical, vain petty and pretty much useless SOB. He knows that Christian conservatives didn't buy his Baptopalian BS and that he lost because of it. It must have been gut wrenching for him to compromise his lack of principles by bringing in Palin to salvage what he could and this is his "payback".

The man is a menace to the party (as he always has been) and his petty vindictiveness will be apparent as he turns his coat once more - in the name of comity of course.

At any rate - he's history. He was never, ever accorded party leader status (for obvious and good reason) and his theory concerning the muddle has been effectively disproven. Palin's treatment is not the negative it appears. If she chooses to be the voice of the party, it will happen.

I would suggest that, instead of writing McCain, writing the RNC in support of Palin might have more effect. It would be a good idea to write Palin too. Ask her where donations for Palin 2012 should be directed.

If you really want to be discouraged, read some of the college newspapers. The worldview of a majority of that age group is so distorted by anti- Americanism and relativism.

Well, as the juniors and seniors of that group graduate, and can't find jobs in a shrinking economy, they will learn the folly of their world view. I am sure many of them will go to graduate school to avoid the troubles of the real world, but when funding dries up because endowments are down big because of the market, even that may not sustain their protective buble.

When they complain about it though, you can just ask them who they voted for, and when they say Obama tell them to shut up, this is the world they asked for.

Free To Choose lectures

Free To Choose might have been the last good thing PBS ever did before I'm sure they had a major purge of whoever was responsible, presided over by the biggest stalinist asshat available, Bill Moyers. As a corrective we get those cloying sociology stories posing as history by cloying skidmark Ken Burns.

clarice

One of the problems is that we've so many immigrants all at once who have only the most rudimentary understanding of cpaitalism and the constitution and neither they nor their children will get much of an education on those things after their arrival. Most BTW get their news and information only from non-English news sources.

Were I advising the Republicans I'd suggest hour long daily programs presented in Spanish in which Lynn Cheney, the authors of The Perfect Latin American Idiot,Hernando De Soto, and Bob Bennett explained federalism and US history and I'd run ads explaining they came here for greater opportunity but they will not have that opportunity if they merely import to the US the bad economic policies of their homeland.

M. Simon

Sarah Palin is a leader I could follow. She makes cultural issues a private matter (no government guns) and economics/honesty a public matter.

I totally approve - on cultural matters we need to lead by example and resist the temptation to do the socialism thing. Republican Cultural Socialism is the biggest problem with our brand. Yeah it is the fault of Shrinking Media™. Pretending it doesn't exist or doesn't matter will not make it go away.

And anyway - if our brand of how to live is so good why do we need government guns?

Word.

CLARICE Thats a great idea.I think it would have to be entertaining.Cartoon form or something.Scrubs does the USA.I have no idea what format, but the basic concept is great

Captain Hate

Dead solid perfect, Rick. The only thing I would add is that I plan on emailing Sarah at governor AT gov.state.ak.us and tell her about what I thought about her treatment by the snots in the media (even last night maximum douchenozzle Qweef Uberdunce was displaying his complete lack of class in victory, which we had already seen through multiple defeats) and how I'll support her in any future endeavors.

I know there's not much point in discussing it now, but I was reading over some things about the Weather Underground again. Apparently Bernadine Dohrn specialized in identity fraud in the 80's. She repeatedly stole information from customers in a store she worked in, and used that information to help create fake IDs to open finances and credit cards under those fake IDs which they used to help the WU finance their terrorist activities.

So the Weather Underground specializing in identity fraud and creating fake people. Hmmm. Perhaps an amaturish precursor to the more sophisticated registration, donation and voter fraud we have seen today? Also this is a a little support to the idea that the WU might have had the wherewithal to plant a fake graduation file for Obama at Columbia, as apparently the WU had no qualms stealing important information from individuals, so perhaps they stole the information from one CU student and fraudulently transferred it over for their own.

Pofarmer

Well, as the juniors and seniors of that group graduate, and can't find jobs in a shrinking economy, they will learn the folly of their world view.

Nah, they'll just be offered positions in Obama's "Civilian Defense Corps"

Remember those words.

Pofarmer

if our brand of how to live is so good why do we need government guns?

To counter the other side trying to control it judicially, mainly. Look, most Social Conservatives are live and let live, beleive me, but they don't like Judicial edict's changing the social order. Expect to see more of those attempted. The LEFT made this an issue, not the right.

jimrhoads aka vnjagvet

Rick is right that McCain never won the hearts and minds of the base, even when he picked Palin. In fact, it was quite obvious that she stole most of the thunder from him and was much more of a draw than he was. I am sure this was hard for the old war hero's staff, and those who supported his brand of republicanism.

The corollary from Rick's observation -- that McCain will never be titular head of the party is also correct. Like John Kerry, he will resort to a gadfly in the Senate.

Anyone worth a toot is now organizing the Draft Palin 2012 committee, serving on her advisory committee, and contributing and raising money for her immediately.

Where was BHO four years ago today? Taking his seat as the Freshman Senator from Illinois. Some then saw the raw talent and hitched their wagon to it, and at the same time provided time, money and resources to promote him as a viable candidate.

Bobby Jindal is out there too. He has the same type of raw talent as Palin with a bit more polish and a somewhat better resume. I am confident there are folks backing him just like folks backed BHO.

Whatever, our generation can only advise and support. Our time for running things is over. It is time to pick out the next generation of leadership and help them avoid the mistakes ours made. They will make enough mistakes of their own.

clarice

Thank you! Cartoons won't work on radio which is where we should begin--foreign language radio staions abound and are underfunded. We could provide this programming free as a public service. It certainly could qualify as a tax deductible educational operation which produces, publicizes and distributes this material. I'm trying to sell this notion--Kind of a radio free US.

Lori

Rick Ballard-great post at 9:22. It's unfortunate that conservative Christians are so caricatured by the left in this country. Most of us know how hearts are changed and it's not by shoving morality down people's throats. You are also right about the reason Christians are concerned about abortion--it is not because they want to control women's lives and bodies but because they truly believe they are protecting innocent lives.
