What a swell idea, bad! I think you should be head of the Special Projects Branch.

bad

Thanks Clarice. My family frequently refers to me as "special."

bad

Can I carry a gun and share an office with Mark Steyn?

Extraneus

Hey, a little update on the Georgia congressman who raised the "Marxist" issue about Obama and his Civilian Security Force.

Congressman sorry for likening Obama to Hitler

I know Captain Ed thinks we should be above such bouts of ODS, but I think this is exactly the thing to do. Ditch the Marques of Queensbury rules. If Bush can be Hitler, than surely Obama can. Anyway, raising doubts about Obama is more than fair, and seeds planted today will ultimately bear fruit. Conversely, lining up shoulder to shoulder behind the new President for the "good of the country," to help him get his bad-for-the-country agenda passed, isn't very smart.

clarice

See,bad, Can I spot talent or what? Of course you can carry a gun. About Steyn..I'll have to think on it.

Hey,maybe one of their parents will take care of you obama problem?

Students chant 'Assassinate Obama' on school bus
REXBURG - Controversial words spoken by kids on a school bus have some Madison County parents concerned.

Matthew Whoolery and his wife aren't blaming the school district for what happened on the bus but they do think all parents need to be careful about what they say and teach their children.

Whoolery and his wife couldn't believe it when their second and third graders got off the bus last week and told them what other students were saying.

"They just hadn't heard anything like this before," said Whoolery. "They were chanting on the bus, 'Assassinate Obama. Assassinate Obama.' Then adding in a name sometimes of a classmate on the bus, 'Assassinate Obama and Kate.'"

The Whoolery's explained to their kids what assassinate means then contacted the school about what was happening.

"I think the thing that struck us was just like, 'Where did they get the word and why would they put that word and that person together?'" said Whoolery.

It's not that the Whoolery's are big Obama fans they just don't like people joking about a serious matter concerning any leader of the country.

"I'm assuming if it were, 'Assassinate McCain' you'd feel the same way?" asked reporter Nate Eaton.

"No question about it," replied Whoolery.

nice huh?you should be proud!

kim

This is old and sad news, truthy, Why do you think I already commented that I'd get Katie out of there, were I her parent?
===================================

Sue

I'm sure you were just as appalled when a movie was made about assassinating Bush. Or when Willow Palin looked out a bus window and saw a t-shirt that said Sarah Palin is a cunt. Go somewhere else with your droppings.

Extraneus

Looks like they should get this girl someplace safe, too.

Tolerance fails T-shirt test

MayBee

They aren't my kids, truthynesslover. My guess is they just liked the sound the words make together.
Perhaps their teachers can tell them the proper chant is:"Bush lied. People died"

I found the source of your story, and this is a hilarious throw-away at the end of the story:

The Whoolery's moved to Rexburg a year ago. They came from the Middle East where they lived for three years.

In all their time living there, they never heard any comments similar to these about any leaders there or here.

Yeah, well most people never hear kids making such comments. But it isn't like the Middle East is a hotbed for freedom of speech against the leaders. What idiotic reporting.

sylvia

I'm still waiting for an investigation into whether Obama went to Columbia. A link with Ayers is hard to prove, and the left wouldn't care anyway, but a guy lying about his school, now that is something else.

Also I've been away for a few days, but I still haven't seen any info on the actual black turnout this time. Since the amount of Repubs and Dems were roughly the same, then the black turnout had to be the tipping point. So what was the black turnout? And did ACORN work? I can't believe this is not on the front page of every paper.

kim

The reporter had to stick that last little bit in there, MayBee. We don't hear the Whoolery's say it and we don't know where they are, but this is another example of the insanity of the media. Did that reporter really think he could make us believe that this stuff isn't rampant in some Islamic areas?
==============================

Sue

The left should have been outraged when pictures of Bush being beheaded or with knives sticking out of his body or hung with a rope were all the rage. They should have realized that what goes around comes around. Not too many on the right can work up the outrage over anything said about Obama, after the way the left treated Bush for 8 years.

MayBee

Did that reporter really think he could make us believe that this stuff isn't rampant in some Islamic areas?

Exactly.
The comments at the news site quickly devolve into Mormon-bashing. Of course they aren't haters, either.

kim

Truthy, your pitiful lead has been trumped badly by Extraneous's link. This was supposedly an educated urban community.

Face it, your side is a mess, and so is your President. The country will abide, despite your destructive efforts.
======================================

rhodeymark

"Po, a .22 is nearly useless for stopping anyone or anything."

I understand the "stopping power" sentiment, but imagine my surprise when I heard that the disturbed 8yo boy who recently killed his father and their roommate used a .22
Plenty of deceased folks would quibble with that statement, I'd imagine.

PeterUK

"Congressman sorry for likening Obama to Hitler".
Too right.Adolf had a moustache and a totally different hairstyle.

sylvia

By the way, to prove Obama didn't actually attend Columbia, we don't have to contact all roughly 1000 graduating class members. There is a statistical formula to come up which would need much less than that.

I'm not sure exactly but probably divide the number of students in the major divided by the number of classes offered per major per semester, times 4 semesters, etc.

Wild guessing 100 students in poli sci for that year, with 3 major classes per semester, say 33 students per class, 12 classes in 4 semesters, okay I can't remember my statistics class now...

But considering a 1 out of 3 (33/100) chance to have a class with another major student per semester, after 4 semesters, any major student would have a 100% chance of having at least one class with another major student. That means that almost EVERY poli sci major from that year should remember Obama. Now just to be safe, cut it down, but at least 50 should remember.

Extraneus

Whew. Glad I'm not alone in my inability to work up outrage over things that might hurt Obama supporters' feelings.

bad
It was a standard applause line on the campaign trail: Barack Obama condemned the “perpetual campaign” that has consumed Washington, contending that the slash-and-burn politics practiced by the Bush White House had gotten in the way of governing.

But President-elect Obama has been virtually silent on bipartisan calls in recent months to eliminate the White House office that has been described as the nerve center of the sprawling political operations headed up by Bush adviser Karl Rove.

Decisions, Decisions... LUN

bad

LOL Peter

rhodeymark

"Not too many on the right can work up the outrage over anything said about Obama, after the way the left treated Bush for 8 years."

Their level of delusion is boundless, though. The same postal worker here who sported "IMPEACH BUSH" and "NOT MY PRESIDENT" bumper stickers has now replaced them with a large visibility impairing banner in his back window that says "OBAMA/BIDEN - Because We're All In This Together" with the writing in blue, but the word "All" in red. I farted in his general direction.

GALVESTON — In one of the most staggering blows to both families and the county’s economy in recent memory, about 3,800 full-time jobs will be cut at the University of Texas Medical Branch as officials sharply downsize the island’s only hospital after Hurricane Ike caused severe flooding and deep financial losses.

This is gonna be tough on the Galveston community. LUN

PeterUK

Sylvia,
Use Friends United or a similar school reunion site. Also Facebook might have old class photographs,as too will college sites.

Soylent Red

That, extraneous, is because we are bitter, clinging racialists. If you don't believe me, ask any Obama supporter.

kim

Yeah, Peter, and his wife's more Eva Peron than Braun.

PeterUK

kim,
I think you might find she is more of an Imelda.

bad

Michelle has quite a bit of braun.

PeterUK

Though she might be more Braun than brain.

bad

Like Pooh?

Extraneus

Well I would, but I'm afraid I might say something to hurt their feelings.

Barney Frank

Plenty of deceased folks would quibble with that statement, I'd imagine.

Plenty of deceased people would probably quibble with the non lethality of the rock that killed them as well, but I don't sleep with a pile of them under my pillow to use on any would-be home invaders.
I was referring to knockdown power; the ability to stop an assailant's attack, whether he is hit marginally or mortally, which is what counts in self defense.
The Mossad has used 22s to assassinate people because they can shoot them in the head at close range with minimal commotion. Even a pellet gun can be lethal in those circumstances as can a sling shot but I wouldn't recommend them for self defense either.
Reagan is a good example of a body shot from a 22, even at close range; he didn't even know he had been shot.

MayBee
In a new afterword to his memoir, 1960s radical William Ayers describes himself as a "family friend" of President-elect Barack Obama and writes that the campaign controversy over their relationship was an effort by Obama's political enemies to "deepen a dishonest narrative" about the candidate... Ayers wrote the new afterword on July 4,

Chicago Tribune

kim

"And what's more, I'll tell the full story of the prawns."
=================================

MayBee

more:

In it, Ayers -- who did not respond to requests for comment -- summarized his relationship with Obama: "[W]e had served together on the board of a foundation, knew one another as neighbors and family friends, held an initial fund-raiser at my house, where I'd made a small donation to his earliest political campaign."

kim

So 'just a guy in the neighborhood' himself puts a lie to Barack Obama's words. What he just said. Do you think the press will press him on the point?
=====================================

bad

Thanks Maybee. I guess he feels like he stuck it to the man.

Will any reporters bother to ask Obama about it?

PeterUK

Barney,
A Colt Woodsman used to be recommended for that. Now there are some jolly little .22 Magnums.

bgates

she might be more Braun than brain.
Sure, Axelrod is Barack's Brain.

MayBee

Do you think Obama will sic his phony fact-checkers on his story?

bad

Jim Geraghty says all Obama statements come with an experation date.

PeterUK

bgates,
Sounds like our next blockbuster "I was Barrack's Brain".

bad

bgates and Peter, aren't you assuming facts not in evidence?

PeterUK

bad,
Facts, facts, this is porn for the liberals,"we don't need no steenkin facts"

Daddy

Soylent,

Enjoyed the link to the Jim Lind story. A lot of truth in what he says. Whether it ought or ought not to be the case, it is a fact that military people consider who the Commander in Chief is and whether or not they want to be serving under him. Saw this under Carter, saw this under Clinton, and am beginning to see this topic raised again by the many Reservists I work with following the recent election. Leftist purists I suspect will holler that service should be rendered solely in accordance with the military Oath to support and defend the Constitution and to obey the orders of the President whomever he or she may be, and that anything else is un-Patriotic, etc. Factually sounds nice in a college seminar, but misses the point that in the real world soldiers are humans with emotions and opinions, and those are always going to come into play when considering re-enlistments or career choices. This election has brought us a wealth of topics for re-examination.

Go John Galt--if the govt is going to tax everything you buy and earn, buy less. Here is an absolutely delicious bread you can make in less than 2 hours from start to finish--only 10 minutes of it involves any work (minimal) on your part. I stirred in some grated Italian cheese I had left over, topped it with pizza seasoning , some leftover anchovies, fresh thyme and olive oil--but you can do almost anything with this. Oh, and it tastes one hundred times better than delivery pizza.Just keep on hand some olive oil, all purpose flour and instant yeast and you can make this whenever you feel like it.

It's also a great bread for sandwiches.

BTW,
Many have said that in the interests of your country, you should support the new president. It is not ,however, incumbent on you to make his stay in the White House a happy one.

bad

My family loves crusty bread like that. I'll give it a whirl. Did you use dough hooks on your mixer?

sbw

Ah! A topic I can sink my teeth into.

sbw

Strange, isn't it, the disparate interconnections between us. I've been a King Arthur Flour customer for ages.

bad

What took Obama so long to resign his Senate seat?

clarice

bad, yes, I used the dough hook. One more thing we share, sbw.

Honestly this is so easy and absolutely yummy. I want to make some every week.. They also have an easy but time consuming baguette recipe (new One) up--Now I can get good ones here, but they are over $3 a loaf and these are --what--50 cents each?

And most of the time is letting the starter rise over night. It simply takes planning.

Here's the best part. The market was tanking again when I started it. I continued on to other things, and when I looked again, there was a substantial gain. You guys wanting to recoup your investments, should send me some flour or something.

Bad:

Thanks for linking that story about the 3800 layoffs at UTMB. Both my lovely daughters work there and are awaiting word on their fate. They have been working again since about 3 weeks after Ike, but many more are sitting home on administrative leave. Our Melissa works in Finance(worried the most) if no patients, no finance..Our Lari works in Pathology(Blood Bank)her degree is in clinical laboratory sciences with masters in blood banking--she seems a little safer, they are doing L&D and general and transplant surgeries of which is her main work..fingers crossed! But we just don't know..so sad for so many families, here; still looking to find a place to live-my two girls just found a condo about 2 weeks ago, 40 miles from Galveston. Pray for them, all!

Daddy

Let 'em eat cake.

"What took Obama so long to resign his Senate seat?"

The money.

slash-and-burn politics practiced by the Bush White House

Would somebody please explain to me what the hell that means?

I'll keep them in my prayers, Glenda. Friend's parents are trying to rebuild their church and home there and alerted us to the loss of the hospital a couple of weeks ago.

I wish the news channels would show video of Galveston regularly like they did of New Orleans.

Real Nice. Since they were children and probably don't know what it means, I think its an opportunity for their future compulsory civil defense teachers to shine.

In other news - 8 years of this:

and we still get assholes like you around here.

MayBee

We'll be thinking of you, Glenda.

glenda waggoner

Bad,

What church? I will try and send some help their way. Are they BOI? (born on island)

bad

They are BOI. The church is the Seaside Baptist Church.

bad

Will Ayers be asked when he and Obama first met and if so, will Ayers answer honestly, or will he sanitize this relationship as he has sanitized his terrorist past?

Sue

Wow. That is something. Ayers says they are friends. Ayers says he hosted the "initial" fund-raiser at his house. Both things Obama flatly denies. One of them is lying. Which one?

bad

Well Sue, would you put more faith in the word of an unrepentant terrorist or the president-elect of the United States of America?

Sue

How sad, bad, that I am forced to choose the unrepentant terrorist.

bad

Ha ha Sue, I chose him too.

I wonder if Steve Diamond's will go on the record now.

bad

Steve Diamond's ***source***

centralcal

Wonderful. Now the GOP Governors (according to CNN - anonymous sources, doncha know) are knifing Sarah. Didn't like her getting all that attention at the presser today. Like, what does she think she is, the leader of the party or somethin'?

When will these juveniles on our side ever grow up?

LUN

Extraneus

It's in Obama's interest to keep Ayers, Wright, and probably a bunch of other people happy enough not to get too honest, huh?

Sue

Ex,

That is the problem with not vetting him. He has too many things he wants to keep hidden.

Extraneus

centralcal, can we start naming names and targeting these a**holes yet?

The Republicans appear to need a blood bath.

centralcal

Extraneus: Well . . . yeah, it is time for names to be named, BUT - I see the piece Allahpundit linked at CNN was written by none other than Dana Bash, who I think Palin was rather short with during the presser.

So it doesn't surprise me Dana was able to drum up some grousing.

"Another Republican governor eyeing a presidential run in 2012 told CNN the event was “odd” and “weird,” and said it “unfortunately sent a message that she was the de facto leader of the party."

Hhmmmm - maybe Pawlenty. He didn't get the VP slot as he expected.

Haley Barbour bless his heart stuck up for Sarah.

Extraneus

Yes, and that didn't hurt Haley Barbour in my book. I wouldn't mind seeing him run in 2012, either. I notice he spoke on the record. Any Republican governor talking to CNN or any MSM anonymously should get the knife-in-the-table treatment.

Who's our Rahm Emanuel, anyway?

centralcal

Ex: Well, we used to have a "Hammer," but he's on the outside looking in, now. Don't know if we have any "Knife," other than the stab-in-the-back kind - sure a plethora of those wussies.

Ann

It is time we start a women's movement for Sarah Palin.

We just need to come up with a catchy name.

Maybe, Community Organizers of Women for Sarah or COWS

Maybe not! :) Someone come up with a better name and I will join today.

MikeS

Someone come up with a better name and I will join today.

How about Female Organizers Campaigning for Sarah? That would be pronounced 'foxes.'

glenda waggoner

I'm in for the Palin anything. Gov.Perry knows his days are numbered-Kay B Hutchinson wants his job and she will get it. He is nothing like GWB and hasn't been back to Galveston to help after Ike, when the national media & photographers left.
And Bad...Seaside Baptist-I'll definitely look it up-If they are BOI they have to know my family somehow, since we were all born there since grandparents immigrated in 1919.

centralcal

On the commute home, the talk radio host (local) said it just came across the wires that Hillary Clinton will be Sec. of State.

Is that true? Nothing is up at Drudge. BOR is bloviating, so no news there.

MayBee

There's breaking local news that a Hazmat team has been called to the Mormon Temple in Westwood.

MayBee

central- the breaking news I heard on CNN is that she's definitely on the list.

centralcal

Oh shoot, MayBee, you mean I have to stop laughing now?

Uh, not about the hazmat team!

MayBee

It's the Temple the anti-prop 8 (pro-gay marriage) protesters have been targeting so heavily.

bad

Glenda, the family's name is Vaughan. They are wonderful people working very hard to help others rebuild from the hurricane.

Sue

I have a brilliant idea. Let the gays and lesbians have marriage and the straights take civil unions. I mean, let's just pretend we are going to take civil unions then gays and lesbians will want it. I don't mean to be flip about it, but damn, I am so sick of this. Militants of any stripe make my teeth itch.

PD

Heh. Hannity and Colmes are talking about how the Obama transition team is circulating a questionaire to potential appointees that includes questions about ... associations that may be embarassing.

Oh, the hypocrisy.

Will Obama fill out one of these?

bad

PD

The questions are linked earlier in the thread, 8am or so today. They are very probing questions.

Obama wouldn't be hired.

PD

It is time we start a women's movement for Sarah Palin.

We just need to come up with a catchy name.

Well, the name's maybe not "catchy," but there's teamsarah.org.

bad

PD here is the questinaire. LUN

PD

bad, thanks.

Colmes is pretty unbelievable (if entirely predictable) in this segment. He's arguing that it's necessary to vet people ... he who consistently argued against the idea that Obama's associations had any relevance to anything.

ljm

Hazmat crews at the Mormon temple in Westwood hmmm.... A hazmat crew was called to the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City today as well.

I like Sue's idea of switching civil unions and marriage or perhaps we heteros could give them (homosexuals) marriage if they will give us the word "gay" back.

Pagar

"questions about ... associations that may be embarassing."

To the advisors of the newly elected president that would be any one who professed to be a Christian, or who believed in defending America.

Best title all year.
