"turning"?

I mean, he woofs at DiFi, who subsides, mumbling about future 'interesting' questions, and Harry the Reed bounces off the ropes with an entirely new look on his face.

Happy Saturday, everybody. Been away a couple of days and I see (on another thread) that a JOM cookbook is in the works! Hooray. What a wonderful idea.
I think Hit should be assigned to naming (renaming) of the recipes. Nothing better than a good giggle when you are whipping up a meal.

I've been following the unpleasantness which Israel has been enduring and I'm 'one cheer' pleased with Kadima's conduct of the operation to date. They are not backing down and the point of the exercise appears to be within reach. Apparently they're going to step up operations in the face of the idiotic UN resolution. Good for them. The Israeli's have done a good job in responding to the muslim loving press accounts regarding mosque arm depots and UN/Hams indoctrination center artillery bases. They really should take out the hospital described at the end of this piece. Perhaps they would catch Abbas asleep in the nursery.

I heard them prostitoots do that.
Ticketmaster and MTV swear in the Great ONE Hobo and tickets are only 25. The things want cheaper gas.

Here's a gem: Democrats bring back Nuremberg defense (H/T Instapundit):
Because it's not really about the "torture" y'see . . . it's about the evil policies that might enable it. The utter cluelessness of giving torturers a pass while simultaneously criminalizing the political decision-makers is all very reminiscent of Abu Ghraib, where the liberal hand-wringers decided the leadership must be the root cause, despite universal agreement that the chain of command (Karpinski) had nothing to do with it (except dereliction of duty). But the real irony is that, in an effort to provide constitutional privileges and criminal due process to unlawful combatants, the "ain't gonna study war no more" crowd is industriously working to dismantle the single most important precept in preventing war crimes: strict accountability of the chain of command. The primacy of that concept is reflected in the very first irregular criterion for combatant status:
- (a) that of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;
In what you'd think should be an obvious corollary, the responsibility is reciprocal: a senior can no more be responsible for something his junior didn't do, any more than a junior can be responsible for something he didn't do, even if he'd received an unlawful order. Breaking the chain in any fashion allows uncontrolled actions by subordinates, which invariably leads to breakdowns like Abu Grhaib. And in the ardent pursuit of faux violations, those advocating this course are opening the door to actual ones.Posted by: Cecil Turner | January 10, 2009 at 10:04 AM

JMH-
I believe that some have discovered the power of the RSS feeder.
As far as my netvibes page, I live on it. I keep about 60 feeders running. Really cool tool, and you need to be kinda geeky to need it.
NZ Bear built a similar fixed feeder at TheNewsRightNow.

'Stop the *** loving press accounts regarding ******* arm depots and UN/**** indoctrination center artillery bases.........'
Undewear man. You really are just a punk to me, so don't go think'n you run this here blog cause I can kick your old ass too. Maybe you should move? You write allot and say allot and no one really wants to hear it. You can pay them and they're even nicer, like your Oba ma.

So, why in the world hasn't Joe Biden resigned from the Senate yet?
Posted by: Pofarmer | January 10, 2009 at 10:24 AM
JMH is feeling all warmed up and in charge and stuff. Anyone warming up? Prostitutes usually have diseases, so when you get Obama's from be'in all Hanesy, don't blame the *******.
I tried to read and figured out what Ap O Gee means.
I'm going to buy shit, bye.
Posted by: ObamapoliceuseyourbodyandlifeforcashlikeObama | January 10, 2009 at 10:28 AM
Pofarmer, he wants the salary and bennies..really. He otherwise gets none during the transition.
Posted by: clarice | January 10, 2009 at 10:31 AM
Cecil,
If you started writing a "We've Always Been at War with Eastasia, Winston" column, I'd pay to read it. You won't lack for fodder going forward.
Posted by: Rick Ballard | January 10, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Ok, a trivia question for all the long term political junkies here. What is the most cabinet appointees to quit before confirmation during a presidential transition?
I think we may be near tagging the Obama transition as an Epic Fail. If Holder goes down that will make two, which I think at least ties, if not beats the record.

Aaarrrggggh! poetic justice @ LUN

Ranger-
If I recall, there were 3 Clinton AG fails, not including the "ballon" appointments.
Got a bit to go, but I get your point.
Hard to make decisions through the lens of a "focus group".

peter-
Nice news, I like irony.
Posted by: Mel | January 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM
Mel,
I see your point, but I was just focusing on the period between election day and taking office. Having two proposed cabinet members both dropped because of ties to coruption should give the Rs enough cover to start raising serious questions about all of Obama's appointments and policy proposals. It is clear that Obama simply can't see corruption, even when he is looking directly at it (as he said in 2006, his top political priority was getting Blago re-elected). The Rs should be decent enough to help him spot it.

In the cookbook, every 10th page or so we should just print "lucifer"!

Is anyone else watching President Bush on Fox?
Tears in my eyes...ten days left.
Posted by: Ann | January 10, 2009 at 11:52 AM
It's not even about evil policies, Cecil. It's about evil people. Motive based criticism is the ultimate political win-win, and it's always been the basic building block of BDS. Obama can endorse evil Bush policies without eliciting more than random grumbles, because his motives are unimpeachable.
That may be something of a bright side in this instance. I doubt that Obama will be ceding any of the executive ground "usurped" by Cheney, so he's likely to discourage anything more than a superficial backward glance. Outside of throwing a bone to the Waxman wing, show trials for war crimes are not in Obama's best interest. We can all move forward, in that great bipartisan spirit from above, now that Bush is gone.

Council President Monica Conyers left Wednesday for a seven-day "educational and humanitarian" mission to the Middle East.
They might want to check if she bought a return ticket.

Yesterday I was driving home at sunset and I thought the sun looked bigger than I've ever seen it.
Yesterday here, the moon was bright in the sky by 4:00 pm. Not the usual just kind of visible, but glowy.
My son and I decided if it were our first day on earth, we would think the earth had a day moon. I can't wait to see it tonight.

Jane, it is wonderful. Somehow I can't imagine our next administration involved in such a moving event.
Doro seems more impressive than Caroline, IMHO.
Thanks, Ann, for the heads up.

Morning Gang! While I'm happy to hear that Eric Holder is receiving some resistance - but only from REP senators. Its looks as if the REPS will make the DEMS revisit all on those weird Clinton pardons. Hopefully they will be inclined to remind DEM members of the Judiciary Com what they themselves were saying at the time.
I'm sure Clarice was interested to hear in the WAPO story (LUN) this morning that James Comey wrote a letter of recommendation for Holder. I wonder if Schumer's office wrote it for him.

This is a joke, right? There isn't actually a real person named Yakima Washington, right? Does (s)he maybe have a brother Spokane?

My impression has always been that the focus of the left's ire has been on John Yoo at OLC (in addition, of course, to Bushitler and Cheney). Yoo wrote the famous memo interpeting the law governing interrogation techniques.
So the can of Abu Ghraib, such as it is, has been tied to his tail, nothwithstanding the absurdity of the idea that anyone at the prison had ever seen or heard of the memo. But the absence of any connection doesn't faze the wackos--it's enough that Yoo's memo "created an atmosphere" in which it was OK to perform frat-house-rush pranks on prisoners. Fasten your seat belts, folks.
Posted by: Danube of Thought | January 10, 2009 at 12:50 PM
Take a look at O's choice for the positon once held by Yoo, and try to figure what it portends. LUN.
