Use it to chide the $400K per year head of NPR the difference between principal and principle--and try to do it soon because I bet she'd going to be removed quickly.

Danube of Thought

I think Mary Mapes might have a slot for her somewhere once she's out the door.

Clarice

Richard Baehr at AT says this of NP's funding:

"Some NPR defenders are arguing that calls to defund federal support for NPR are misguided- that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) does not give money directly to NPR. That is true- though NPR got about $700,000 last year year in federal grant money. But a far bigger chunk of federal support- $93 million, goes from CPB to NPR member stations , and this money is used by those stations, along with money from the public, to buy NPR programming. So, I think it is hard to say NPR does not receive federal support. If Saudi Arabia gave directly to CAIR local chapters, and not to CAIR's national organization, and the local chapters then paid for services from national CAIR, would you say that Saudi Arabia was not funding CAIR?"

matt

So Soros donates $1.8 Million for 100 local NPR reporters. That works out to $18,000 per reporter for one year of work/propaganda.

I know media pay is low, but really? I guess it is sort of like the stipends the Daily Worker and The Nation and CPUSA used to pay.

At least at Rolling Stone it paid crummy but you could usually scam all the dope you needed while Wenner was out exploring his bisexuality. I

Thomas Collins

Let's not be too hard on Schiller. Albeit inadvertently, she has done a lot this week to combat PCness. In addition, given Williams' expanded role and higher salary at Fox, she has inadvertently helped a journalist who in effect flipped the finger to the PC brigade. Roger Ailes should send Schiller a "Party Like It's 1773" t-shirt!

Jack is Back!

Don't know why he's so PC regarding the Chinese looking kid. She may his master some day.

According to all indications, women are leaving the democrats.

“A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll of congressional races found that where women have sided with Democrats by an average of 9 points since 1976, they are now only narrowly supporting Democrats over Republicans, 47 percent to 44 percent.”

Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/43991.html#ixzz137RuPI00

“One recent Associated Press/GfK poll found Republicans running closely with Democrats among female voters”
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/22/us/politics/22obama.html?ref=todayspaper

“The current survey shows no gender gap among white likely voters – white men favor the Republican congressional candidate by 23 points and white women by 20 points. In November 2006, white men backed the Republican by 11 points while white women were divided. “
http://people-press.org/report/?pageid=1824

This trend could better be described as women “divorcing” the democrats. Why?

Democrats and the liberal media have taken on the role of abusive husbands to their once loyal mates, unmarried white women. They see in every ad, interview, television and print story the same condescending, contemptuous attitudes towards women that they easily identify with as they see in men who have dismissed them as stupid their whole lives.

More on a subconscious level, they naturally find this treatment of someone who could very well be them as repulsive and a betrayal of previous loyalty. Not only does this lose the support of these women, it triggers a response mechanism that prompts them to inflict the maximum amount of retribution possible on the offender.

Obama is trying desperately to get some traction back from single white women. He is fighting the democrat’s demonization of the a central casting version of his previous base – a young, single, attractive, well spoken woman who has had difficulty making her payments for rent and school – Christine O’Donnell.

Will women who previously voted straight democrat change to republicans just to see the look on Chris Matthews’ face on election night when Christine O’Donnell wins? You betcha.

Jack is Back!

I'm in the pool over at Ace's place and I have to tell you we are either all a bunch of PJ wearing no-nothings or we are on to something big. I see so many O'Donnell picks I am wondering if she has a chance. Go over and see the various picks. Either we are all drinking the Rove/Morris/Barone kool-aid or we are pragmatic fatalists. And to make daddy wonder where the yellow went most find Miller triumphing. Interesting comment in that some from Alaska are saying people are lying in the polls about Leeza Moo.

Question of the evening: What if Richard comes in to the gulf as a Cat 3 or worse around Election day. Will Barry postpone his trip to India and Indonesia or stay and help start up the school buses NOLA?

Jack is Back!

Faux Pas: It must be dyslexia - I looked at the wrong state - Coons is leading sharply at Ace's contest. But there are a few brave souls (not me) who picked O'Donnell.

The link to Ace is LUN. Go down about 1/3rd of the way and you'll find the contest. Closes tonight at 8pm.

Clarice:

Another 225 comments on Juan Williams column, since last I looked, which brings the total to 2,725. I'm rooting for 3,001 so that I can call it "over 3,000!" a la the NY Times survey in TM's global warming post.

JiB:

The last time Obama cancelled Indonesia didn't they deep six the commemorative statue of him as a schoolboy? Oddly enough, he doesn't seem to worry about giving the largest muslim democracy in the world the usual kid glove treatment.

Clarice

Maybe if they declared war on us, JMH?

mockmook

Heh.

Did anyone else enjoy Rush's snarkozation of David Brooks' column today?

The column reads like satire; made me LOL even though it was meant to be serious. Made Rush feel like he (Rush) was drunk; made no sense.

matt

The below linked video clip is "jackass" for the rest of us....must watch TV.

Extraneus

Libs are really starting to lash out now. Yesterday it's Juan Williams [Fox!]. Today, Drudge links a guy with a USS George H. W. Bush t-shirt getting fired by some union thug who didn't even know it was a ship [Bush!].

Can't wait to see what they do tomorrow, and especially after the election, when I'll start fantasizing about their real nuclear head explosion [Palin!!!].

Sue

Never mind your superpowers, where is the obligatory game six thread! I demand justice! Or a couple hanging curveballs from Hughes...

We demand a game six thread. ::bangs on high chair::

Porchlight

I think TM is well into his first six pack (shaker of martinis?), Sue. I know I would be if I were in CT right now.

It's been a rough ALCS. I am hardwired to find it very, very difficult to root against the Yanks. But they beat my Twins, so for the purposes of this series, I.....can't root for them.

Like I said it's hard.

Porchlight

JiB, thanks for that Ace link. Guess I've got half an hour...

Rick Ballard

Is the wikileaks traitor's dump supposed to be the October surprise? Are we all supposed to faint, wake up and vote Dem because the Iraqis squeezed their headchoppers? I believe the headchopper's splodeydope recruits were going off like a string of firecrackers in '04 and '05 (to Copperhead applause) and I find it difficult to find fault in a series of very real 'ticking time bomb' scenarios.

MarkO

Sue, my love, just you wait. Was Mr. Lincecum literary foreshadowing? Can the Rangers win, how do you say it, at home?

Boatbuilder

Still no mention of my Blue Devils. Apparently Obama doesn't read the comments.

Jane

Obama is trying desperately to get some traction back from single white women

We are mean girls - so he can suck eggs.

Porchlight

Rick,

Everything I've read about the Wikileaks dump confirms what we've been saying all along, i.e. Iran was funding and training the opposition. If it's an Oct. Surprise (which did occur to me) I can't figure out how it benefits Dems.

maryrose

Jane: LOL and my choice of best comment of the day!

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--AND TO BE FAIR: Mikayla Nelson, the young white lady I had mentioned in the earlier post, did get a shout-out from Obama in his Science Fair remarks at the White House.--

I take it this is a TM inoculation against another FUBAR allegation of a JOM SNAFU?
I was in the AF, we do acronyms.

Sue

I'm a nervous wreck. I do not want a game 7 even with Lee on the mound. Let's go Rangers. Put it away tonight.

Frau Eingeweide

From Ace's commenters: AK - Leeza McCloskey (sorry folks, the media's in full-destroy mode on Miller)
Bummer, say it isn't so. Is it true that the Broward County entrails diviners are en route to AK for the election?

Porchlight

Sue, OT, but are you seeing Bill White ads where you are? I just saw one where he was saying that Perry failed to get the federal funds to secure the border. The freaking GALL of Mr. Sanctuary City doing an anti-illegal immigration ad to position himself to the right of Perry....I want to scream.

Boatbuilder

I'm wondering how many people who told the pollsters they were going to vote for Marcinsky will be surprised to find that she's not the Republican nominee and not on the ballot.

Sue

Yes. I'm seeing them. But only when I'm watching the local channels.

Gmax

1 - 0 RANGERS ON A VLAD GROUND BALL. That is an omen, Vlad is going to beat the Yanks all by himself.

And consider this JOM Outer Limits show, we control vertical we control the vertical do not attempt to adjust your dial. This is now the Ranger thread in the Outer Limits...

Sue

Boat,

That's what I'm wondering. How many will actually bother to write her name in? Tom Delay's seat went to the democrat because voters didn't write the name in. The seat went back to a republican the next election.

Gmax

Moreland with a lead off walk. We used to say lead off walk preceeds the rally. Go Elvis Go Rangers.

OldTimer

Looks like Holder's cowardly Americans are about to have that dialog about race relations--right before the election..

From Breitbart's Big Government:

"...Congratulations to the editors at the Washington Post. Seventeen months after the Eric Holder Justice Department dismissed a slam-dunk case against the New Black Panther Party for voter intimidation, the Post gets around to printing a thorough vetting of the dismissal. The story is slated for Saturday’s print edition. While other media like Breitbart/The Bigs, Fox News, the Washington Times, the Weekly Standard, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Investors Business Daily, Pajamas Media, and Drudge have had dozens of stories on the corrupt New Black Panther dismissal, the Washington Post at last is in the game."

I guess now that it's clear the GOP will sweep the House and begin its oversight investigations, the WaPo decides to act like a *real* newspaper - LUN for the rest of the story.

Gmax

Wich is easier to write Sekula-Gibbs or Murkowski? Cuz Sekula-Gibbs was too hard and a weasel Democrat sat in
DeLays chair for two years.

Porchlight

I've seen one White and one Perry ad on TBS HD on my local digital cable service. Nothing in the last inning or two though.

Clarice

This is the first story the Post did on the Black Panthers case IIRC.
I will tell you I think they had access to the sources of this story for a long time because during the prior administration if a Bush named official even moved a chair in the Civil Rights Division it was on the paper's front page the following morning.
My suspicion is that they knew this was going to come out anyway.

Gmax

They knew with Republican House there would be hearings. Now a Saturday story and try to claim its all yesterday's news. watch.

Sue

I'm not liking this.

Sue

Porch

I have satellite. They haven't shown any local commericials that I've noticed.

Gmax

Crappy ump does not see ball hit Swisher, and the pass ball allow Aroid to score. Only way the Yanks can score is with 10 men ( team plus Umpire?).

Sue

We are leaving too many base runners.

Gmax

believe in Vlad. They are going to walk Josh so look for a two run shot.

Sue

I have given up on Vladdy coming through for us. He is just swinging at whatever is thrown up there unless it is a strike then he stands there.

Gmax

Faith a small as a mustard seed can move mountains. Me I believe.

Gmax

OK I called the first half of this shot. Go Vlad.

Gmax

Sue?

Ye of so little faith.

I BELIEVE!

Sue

I just had to do that. Whenever I talk bad about Vladdy he comes through.

Gmax

Good recovery. The fans are going berserk.

Gmax

TM is this a double scotch night?

peter

Crap! the Yankees are trailing by two

MarkO

Vald the Impaler.

But, the bad call actually helped the Rangers because with first and third, both would have scored on the double.

The umps knew that. Cheaters.

Did I mention Duke is #1 preseason?

Strawman Cometh

"We are leaving too many base runners. "
Noted and corrected

GreenLeaf

Good Lord!! Obama has become the continential divide when it comes to race relations & the list is too long to list here. The one that disturbs me is his recent mentioning of 'tribalism' in America to an all black group.

Need to read a book just surfacing cause it's about all of us uniting (regardless of race) against politicians who continue to divide Americans. ( www.booksbyoliver.com )At least someone is taking a stand.

We just need to find compromise in our differences & be civil with people getting fired (Juan Williams) for speaking freely.

Gmax

the Yankees are trailing by two

Correction mon amie

5 -1 Rangers on a Nellie Cruz blast.

maryrose

Gmax and Sue: I was tempted to tune in but decided to see the play by play on JOM.

Mad Jack

Red Sox fans are going berserk! 5 to 1. Go Rangers. But as Glenn says: Don't get cocky.

Gmax

Come on down we are going to throw a party. Now Kins doubles down the left field line. Bengie next?

Sue

Yippee!!!!

Gmax

Sorry its Murph, and he is due too. Clutch hitter against righties.

PD

Part 1 of 2.

From Woodward's "Obama's Wars," p101, in which he describes the early discussions over what to do about Afghanistan:

Jones met with the NSC principals to next day, March 12, to go over the Reidel review.

"I want Bruce to talk for 30 minutes and explain what's in this paper," Jones began. Let's have no interruptions. Riedel reprised his presentation from the day before and Jones opened up the meeting for comments.

"Just let me take two minutes here, Biden said. "I only have a couple of things to say, and this'll only take me a minute or two."

You know where I'm going with this, right?

PD

Part 2 of 2.

Continuing on to p102:

The vice president's lecture lasted almost as long as Riedel's talk. An NSC staff director sitting on the back bench clocked Biden as speaking for 21 minutes.
MarkO

Torquemaqda de la Cruz.

(Obviously, I am deflecting the pain through historical free associations. All to those who have tormented the faithful.)

Next? Auto de fé.

Sue

Oh my! I am totally out of breath. It's a good thing I don't have neighbors. I can yell and no one hear me.

Gmax

I thought that liner down the line was an HR but it hooks foul. Time to start racking up outs, 12 to get. Go Rangers.

peter

Yanks spot Rangers four runs to give their offense a chance to shine. Greatest comeback ever, coming up.

Sue

Come on Rangers pitching. Bring it home!

Gmax

Peter did you used to work in Iraq before the fall? You sound vaguely like Baghdad Bob? Or am I thinking of David Axelrod and the we got this one right where we want it, speech?

Mad Jack

Too late for the Yanks to earn the "greatest comback" title. However, they are intimately familiar with how it's done.

Porchlight

Now, now, friends...

Gmax

that was a very easy sixth inning, one two three. Nine more outs to get.

peter

Not sure why Girardi thought it was a good idea to bring in Robinson when he had CC sabathia available

Gmax

They knocked the crap out of Sabathia twice now, he is going to be great on two day rest? HUH?

Janet the tea-vangelist!

Instipundit posts this quote from the WaPo Justice Dept. story - “Interviews and government documents reviewed by The Washington Post show that the case tapped into deep divisions within the Justice Department that persist today over whether the agency should focus on protecting historically oppressed minorities or enforce laws without regard to race.”

How can our Justice Dept.even ask if they should enforce laws without regard to race?
Really, the whole "special" nonsense needs to end. Black, brown, Sr. citizens, women, gays, disabled (loosely defined), Muslims, politicians,...
Laws, rules, & regulations need to apply to everybody or nobody.

PD

Craig Sager's attire tonight is oddly muted.

Gmax

Three more outs.

Gmax

And a seranade from Miss Texas! What is not to like?

maryrose

Protecting historically oppressed minorities? Say what? None of those thugs at the voting booth have been oppressed ergo they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Only the PC argument remains and that's being used to save them.

Gmax

Stand up double brings up Josh. Do they dare walk Josh to pitch to Vlad. I dare them.

Gmax

Yup Vlad again. He is on fire.

Gmax

As good as a bunt. Fly ball makes it 6 - 1

Gmax

Bases loaded and Kinsler has been hot as a two dollar pistol.

Sue

Ian can hit it out too. Let's go Ian!

Gmax

6 -1

Miracle it did not get over his head. Go Murph.

Sue

That was nice of Swisher.

Gmax

I thought Murph got enough. Still bigger lead and six outs to get.

Gmax

Struck out swinging the first two in the eighth? Whoa.

Sue

That was awesome.

Gmax

Struck out Jeter looking. WHOA!

Feliz on call for some 100 MPH high heat.

Sue

I'd leave Lewis in until he can't go anymore.

MarkO

All the first pitch swings make me think the Yanks are in a hurry to get home.

Gmax

Not me Neftali Feliz. Make them beat your closer.

Gmax

Nolan Ryan for President!

Thomas Collins

I hope Ryan invites GWB to throw out the first ball in Game 3 of the WS (not that the game is over yet, TM).

Thomas Collins

And then Juan Williams for first ball thrower outer in Game 4 in Arlington.

Gmax

Three to get. Fans will roar with every put out.

Never EVER been to the World Series. This too shall end.

Sue

I was thinking about my grandfather. He loved the World Series no matter who was in it. He would have loved to have seen a series with the Rangers in it.

Thomas Collins

One down, two to go.

Gmax

Maybe the Yanks can get some Sonny Bryant's BBQ before they head out.
