A week ago I linked an article by Ron Kessler pointing out how closely Loughner fit the FBI profile for most assassins. The FBI study was confined to American assassins, but the results were essentially the same.

Boatbuilder

Let's hope that there weren't any lonesome losers watching network TV last week. Sheesh.

PD

The gist - most assasins are losers making a play for fame rather than activisits pushing an agenda.

Clearly this points to the need for government programs to boost self-esteem.

Surely the assassination rate will be cut if all citizens can say, "Well, I can't accomplish anything worth crap with my life, but I sure feel good about myself."

stace

Yes, Boatbuilder, and the fact that Loughner's face and name are now well known in every household only encourages the copycats. The press for awhile after the Columbine copycats knew this and tried to not to give mass killers too much personal fame, but I guess this time the political angle they longed for made them less cautious.

Danube of Thought

Instead, wadda they get? A one-way ticket to Palookaville, that's what.

Boatbuilder

The upside of the Loughner publicity is that it may somewhat reduce the number of people who think Sarah Palin did it.

porch, doesn't watching network TV often define lonesome losers?

On top of the Secret Service, take a look at the symbolism.

Federal building in Okalahoma City is attacked ... what symbolism does that engender ? None. You might as well attack an "out house" in Podunk. Only a madman would waste his time.

Twin Towers in New York City is attacked ... what symbolism does that engender ? It's an attack on the belly of the beast .. go for his wallet, but more importantly, it is the symbolic headquarters of America. Big win on the international stage.

Attack a 3rd term politician outside of Tucson (Tucson is not part of AZ-8) ... what symbolism does that engender ? It's like attacking a 3rd World politician. Unless you hate politicians who appear on FoxNews, this is a useless exercise. Only a madman would waste his time ... and that's what we got.

Clearly this points to the need for government programs to boost self-esteem.

You're a tad late,PD. In 1988, assemblyman John Vasconcellos charged the California Task Force To Promote Self-Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility. The outcome was a bit like communism: it didn't result in the desired changes because it wasn't done "correctly."

Hey!! Some of us choose not to get cable.

Jack is Back!

Someone on the Beck show on Sirius today (coming back home from the Apple store in Jax), I think Jim Rogers, decried the fact that the Chinese are turning out engineers 4 times as many as we are and 4 times smarter when all we seem to be teaching is self-esteem.

Jack is Back!

Talking about the Apple Store in Jax, it was there biggest crowd of the year and most sales according to the guy I was dealing with there. Hard to find a parking spot in St. John's Town Center. Almost like Christmas.

I am wondering if there is an uptick in the consumer economy. I hope not because we need an uptick in the cut spending economy and the reduce debt economy and the revocation of the QE2 economy.

Any Raven fans out there. With that defense I don't see the Steelers coming back from this dimantling plus they don't have anymore appeals - strange and bad coaching decisions.

Any Raven fans out there.

Hell no

With that defense I don't see the Steelers coming back from this dimantling plus they don't have anymore appeals - strange and bad coaching decisions.

I pretty much agree with this. Believe me, I may hate the Shitbirds but having dickbag Dan Rooney's team losing puts a smile on my face. I really can't lose in this game; can't win either but I take what I can.

Manuel Transmission

JiB, we watched Beck this morning and I think Jim Rogers said something like 20 times the engineers. In any case, I'm not seeing the brilliance shining through, yet. It is part of the other element that discussed on the show: thinking outside the box. We are losing a lot of that here, too. I've got one kid I'm working with (here in the States) that grew up on a dairy farm and he has that knack, but generally it scares me that the kids are now too conforming -- same as the Chinese kids.

Captain Hate

The Shitbirds are in full meltdown mode

matt

I said most, Captain. The networks provide a worthy service in telecasting NFL games.

Whitehall

So were does Sirhan Sirhan fit in the Secret Service's profile scheme?

Was he politically motivated to shoot Robert Kennedy? I suspect he was an exception to the exceptions report conclusion.
