hit and run

From the article:
according to White House officials who provided a preview of the speech on the condition that they not be identified.

Used to be that sentence would conclude with "because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly".

Without that,I am left to assume that the unwritten conclusion really is "because they were unwilling to have their name attached to such idiocy."

PE

Sounds like a variation of "my troops, my troops, where have they gone? I must know for I must lead them."

Jeff

I keep hearing the Obama admin claim there are tons of leases that are not being drilled. Nice lease we've sold you there, too bad we won't let you explore or drill.

Once again the Liberals want to tell us where to drill. Of course they decided where to drill based on advice from people like Van Jones vs Shell Oil ...

DebinNC

And the enviromental wackos are obstructing Obama's "clean energy" plans. I guess BO will happily buy them off with $$$ we don't have.

jimmyk

Obama seems to have a workable plan to cut oil imports by 1/3: Cut US GDP by 1/3, by turning over half the economy to the SEIU and ACORN, while regulating the other half to death, and putting education in the hands of Ayers.

Cecil Turner

I look at the various issues where there's a difference, and wonder how we'd be worse off if Sarah Palin were president today:

  • no universal health care bill;
  • no drilling moratorium;
  • our allies would hate us more (but we'd backstab 'em less);
  • we'd still have intervened in Libya (but earlier);
  • the president would be less "awesome" but a lot better looking.
I'm having a hard time seeing much of a down side.

Jim Ryan

Obama and Pelosi have the Constitutional authority to make you buy a Leaf or Volt. (Well, as soon as Justice Kennedy decides that they have the authority to make you buy the health insurance of their choice.) They need to cut down on oil imports and making you buy a Leaf or Volt is necessary and proper to that end.

Don't worry, I'm sure these vehicles come with a cassette deck for your listening
pleasure. Sorry about the $0 resale value after seven years.

P.S., Gonna have to junk your current vehicle if it doesn't get 40 mpg city. Sorry, necessary and proper.

P.P.S., To power your volt, you'll have to use wind-generated electricity. The bill will be $3000/month.

P.P.P.S. Don't worry if you can't afford the vehicle or the power. The government will cut you a check for all this if you are under $100K/year income.

Neo

The undeniable problem brought out fore square by Fukushima Daiichi is the problem of spent fuel rod pools. These are an accident waiting to happen, and each and every nuclear facility in the US has at least one, some with fuel rods going back to the 50's.
It's time to open Yucca Mountain (which Harry Reid doesn't want) or find a more suitable alternative (which nobody wants).
This is something that Energy head Chu can chew on, and failure is not an option.

DebinNC

Scooter sales are soaring.

Jane (sit on the couch or save your country)

Obama's numbers are awful. 37% of independents are for him.

Can we move up election day?

Pasadena Phil

..."President Obama on Wednesday will set a goal of a one-third reduction in oil imports over the next decade, aides said Tuesday."

That's not what he said this morning. His goal is to reduce total oil consumption by 1/3 over the next decade. And if his continuing attack on the oil companies is any indication, he intends to do it by destroying domestic oil production via drilling bans.

Drider

Obama is obviously in full campaign mode.
He is talking,as usual, out of both sides of his mouth.

Example:

We need to do two things.

1.Drill more oil at home.

Ummmm, yeah.He shuts down almost the entire south eastern oil wells and then mentions #1.

2.Get America off of oil.

Using the ingenuity that he rambles on about to replace oil, he must be talking about those electric cars with the 20 thousand dollar batteries that need to be recharged using.........oil/coal and nuclear energy.
It would be ingenious if we could actually pedal those things to the American people in such numbers that would make a dent in our oil consumption.I'm sure the folks in the southeast who lost their oil rig jobs/companies will be lining up to by these things.

His entire speech is one contradiction that is devoid of logic. He takes time to try and deflect his Brazilian trip, where he declared an act of war(all by himself)on Libya, to be anything about the fact that is was pay back for his big corp friends and redistribution of wealth to the poorer country at the continued expense of our oil workers at home.

Fred Beloit

The Dem pimps are still into keeping up that old skank of a whore called Ms Global Warming. She is no longer healthy nor attractive, but they can't let her go because they think she can still make them some dough. That is why they want gas prices to keep rising.
The want to squeeze supply by lowering the importation of oil without establishing more domestic production. Simple supply/demand game.

PD

Obama: We must 'get serious' about long-term energy policy

That's disgusting. The one who's not serious is him. Typical Obama tactic of throwing out an accusation of others to distract us from noticing that the problem is HIM.

clarice

I like MeOw" TM.
Cecil, that comparison is wonderful in my eyes.

This all fits into my Unified Theory of Obama--which explains the birth certificate to the Libyan war and everything in between, including the odd head scar. He was born a conjoined twin and they take turns expressing policy.

Prove me wrong, I dare you.

narciso

Too good to check, clarice,

Porchlight

Obama has no inner Sarah Palin, so he'll be searching for a long time.

narciso

I think there was a film along that angle, with Rosey Greer and Ray Milland

Jim Ryan

Clarice, I like your theory. One twin is a power-hungry megalomaniacal narcissist. The other is a narcissist who mainly likes to chillax on the golf range and who would vote for Palin because she's sexy.

Captain Hate

Obama has no inner Sarah Palin, so he'll be searching for a long time.

Sarah was a starter on her basketball team, no?

Jim Ryan

David Brooks voted for the chillaxin' one, as did Noonan and Althouse. Pelosi and assorted lefties voted for the power-hungry one. All were disappointed with the result.

Porchlight

Heh. Yes, she was captain, Captain, and led the team to the state championship. Obama rode pine the year his h.s. team won.

And he was tall and Sarah was tiny so you know he must have really sucked.

bgates

I'm having a hard time seeing much of a down side.

There would be the daily press reminders of how crippling $2.25/gal gasoline is, especially for the nearly one in twenty Americans who couldn't find work;

The chin-stroking about how US-Islamic relations are poisoned by having a President so insistent on mentioning her Christianity;

The wailing over the loss of America's standing in the world, as evinced by the fact that we didn't get the Olympics or the World Cup, and even the President's invitation to Prince William's wedding arrived the same day as Sarkozy's instead of the day before, a clear snub....

Captain Hate

Not only that Porch, but he went to the coach with a "class action suit" of scrubs with pine splinters in their keisters, whining about getting more playing time. The coach should've cut him from the team but chose to pretend to care about it (hopefully he had the worthless POS be used in practice as a "tackling dummy" to take offensive fouls on fast breaks).

pagar

Off/Topic, but Legal Insurrection has the story of how to help the Republicans in Wisc.
Please take action now. We need to win that one.

http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2011/03/help-get-this-ad-on-air-in-wisconsin.html#comments

Porchlight

Cap'n, isn't that whining just a perfect example of Obama's nature? It's like everything you need to know about the guy in one story. Except for the purposeful destruction of America part.

Ignatz

--He was born a conjoined twin and they take turns expressing policy.--

Barry is the Jose Canseco of politics.

narciso

And yet in the midst of this, as they try to cauterize every aspect of our energy production, this is yet another offering from Duke and Duke, the comments with links, pretty much pulverize the premise,

Captain Hate

this is yet another offering from Duke and Duke

Geraghty, like ace, thinks he'll end up on a deserted island with Jamie Lee Curtis (circa 1983 minus intestinal problems) instead of getting assraped by a gorilla.

hit and run

Via Planet Gore at NRO

"But here’s the thing – we’ve been down this road before. Remember, it was just three years ago that gas prices topped $4 a gallon. Working folks haven’t forgotten that. It hit a lot of people pretty hard. But it was also the height of political season, so you had a lot of slogans and gimmicks and outraged politicians waving three-point-plans for two-dollar gas – when none of it would really do anything to solve the problem."
--stuff Obama said while standing in front of a backdrop exclaiming "WINNING the FUTURE (but he wasn't holding a tire guage,so shut up wingnuts)

Frau Steingehirn

clarice, your unified theory explains the One's Left Foot phenomenon, too.

Frau Steingehirn

I believe Prez. Jiffy-Lube now recommends a "tune up," hit.

Rocco

Hmm...conjoined twins, one named Barack, the other Barry? That might explain the birth certificate!

Geraghty, like ace, thinks he'll end up on a deserted island with Jamie Lee Curtis

UNDERGROUND

Under water grottos, caverns
Filled with apes
That eat figs.
Stepping on the figs
That the apes
Eat, they crunch.
The apes howl, bare
Their fangs, dance,
Tumble in the
Rushing water,
Musty, wet pelts
Glistening in the blue

Liars...Three years ago gas prices were never $4 dollars a gallon. They hit $3 and the dems claimed the sky was falling and we had gas lines as they put everyone into a panic. Ditto during Katrina. Gas prices then topped out at about $3.50.

Gas prices probably averaged $1.50 when Bush was president. They were $.80 when he was inaugurated and dems started screaming when they got to about $1.50 and they never shut up.

You were just supposed to accept that line about three years ago and say to yourself... it's no worse. But it is, and he's a f'n liar.

Captain Hate

I hate to correct you Stephanie but it seemed like gas prices were around $4 here about 3 years ago; although maybe it was a little less than 4 years ago.

Rick Ballard

The national average retail price for gas for the last week in March, 2007 was $2.61.

Frau Steingehirn

I seem to remember that 2000 gave us the Summer of Discontent when gas prices rose and Dems railed against the Chimpyhitlerhalliburton crooks. A crescendo built to the housing problems and climaxed with the impending financial collapse just in time for the election of the Won. IIRC Gas prices came down around the end of Sept. (so SEIU and ACORN thugs could travel cheaply from event to event). I think the US public was driven all the way to the voting booth by professionals.

If ObamaCare really starts up, there will be lotteries for various procedures. One will be called "Winning the Suture."

Larry Elder will be sitting in for Mark Levine. Larry is wonderful, and although he lived and worked in Cleveland, he would never pass himself off as anything but The Sage from South Central.

(At the EIB microphone, Mark Steyn will broadcast tomorrow for Jane and on Friday for clarice. Why isn't it in alphabetical order?)

hit and run

He's referring to the summer of 2008, which was 3 years ago. The birth of drill, baby, drill.

Look at Rick's link for June-July of 2008.

Gas was definitely in the $4.00 range - in fact, at one point I found the price of a gallon of gas to have exceeded the price of a gallon of beer.

Rick Ballard

Thought experiment:

You are a 'leader' of X number of the Ali Babas who make up the 'coalition' recognized by the French as the 'legitimate' government of Libya. France has promised the coalition the oil revenue from whatever fields it can grab and hold and the President of the United States has announced the seizure of $30 billion in Daffy Dollars which will become the property of whomever leads Libya after the Presidentially mandated departure of the current leader.

Should you

A. Put yourself at extreme risk by trying to be the one to actually Kill Daffy.

or

B. Try to kill as many of the leaders of other Ali Baba groups as possible in an effort to be among the last standing when the pelf is divided.

Inshallah.

DebinNC

Is Cantor suggesting Republicans might do a Demon Pass budget?

Stephanie

Not around here. Our gas prices have never been $4 a gallon. Right now we are at $3.24 fluctuating up and down between $3.17 and $3.35 daily. We hit a high of $3.42 last week and then it dropped again.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

From a Pal2Pal blogpost 1/19/2008 based on this external link:

I was completely shocked to read that there is a safe and successful method to recycle spent fuel rods to produce even more energy. According to IDB, France has used this recycling technique for the last 30 years, processing tens of thousands of tons of spent nuke material and producing enough “new” energy from the process to take care of the entire country of France for 14 years. That is amazing. So why aren’t we doing this in this country? France has become completely energy independent and isn’t that what we here in the U.S. want also?

Well, guess what! We do not recycle our spent fuel rods and use the material to produce new safe energy because in 1977 we passed a law forbidding this form of manufacture of energy. This is just plain stupid.

The French have reprocessed spent nuclear fuel for 30 years without incident. There have been no accidental explosions, no terrorist attacks, no contribution to nuclear proliferation. Their facility in La Hague has safely processed more than 23,000 tons of spent fuel, or enough to power the entire country for 14 years.

The U.S. pioneered the technology to recapture that energy decades ago, then banned its commercial use in 1977. An energy plan that does not involve continued and even increased use of nuclear power is no plan at all. And even if we closed all nuclear plants tomorrow, the waste problem would remain.

clarice

The blogger was 100% correcto, Sara, but we are now dealing with people with the reasoning and education of medieval peasants--from Germany to the good old USA..When yu see "green" think drooling moron in hemp shirt plowing the soil without even an ox's assistance.

DrJ

in 1977 we passed a law forbidding this form of manufacture of energy.

Not quite right. It was an executive order from Jimmy Carter. So it would be easy enough to change if there were a will to do so.

Extraneus

Who in the Republican field would have the guts to do that, and go all-out on domestic energy production? Seems like the one thing that could get us back on track in terms of serious growth and world economic leadership. All the rest is just a sideshow.

Porchlight

Who in the Republican field would have the guts to do that, and go all-out on domestic energy production?

Is that a rhetorical question? ;)

Extraneus

I guess it is, now that you mention it.

DebinNC

WI has the highest gas tax in the nation, barely edging out NY. And the public unions are making sure they stay #1.

Melinda Romanoff

Deb-

Those are state taxes. Where are the County and Municipality taxes?

Page2 of data set is excellent. The American Petroleum Institute's fastidiousness about this shows.

The Green agenda is just rewrapped eugenics.

Everything they tout that's "for our own good" merely speeds the demise of some slice of mankind. Just sickening.

Neo

Sounds like he said nothing new.

All those "green loans" to campaign contributors must be running out, or maybe he just wants to remind them to ante up for his re-election.

daveinboca

Doesn't this community organizer realize that he could talk down the price of crude by a half-dollar simply by announcing the end of the drilling moratorium? However, as his poll numbers slide deeper into the journey toward the Equator, I wouldn't want to stop that momentum even if it means paying a few extra dimes at the pump to get the job done in 2012.

"The Green agenda is just rewrapped eugenics. I believe an even more correct description is rewrapped euthanasia. They want to kill off older people just like Stalin wanted to liquidate "useless eaters" in the Ukraine during the forced starvation during the collectivization. Kulaks were another version of the type of people the greenies want to eliminate with extreme prejudice.

hit and run

Stephanie:
Not around here. Our gas prices have never been $4 a gallon.

That's just wrong.

Assuming "around here" means Atlanta. June/July of 2008 average price of gas in Atlanta topped $4/gallon.

And while the proper context is the average price -- I found this interesting. Did you know there's a station in Marietta right now with gas at $3.99? Yes,that's the highest reported gas price in the area,so unfair to use that in isolation -- but there there it is.

Money changes everything.

Hey, Drider, embrace Petrobras and be squeezed by the snake.
