It's okay; the administration is rewriting the law as we speak.

Saw J. Edgar Hoover yesterday.

Directed by Clint Eastwood. Thought he played it pretty straight up.

Recommend.

Interesting ideological parallels between 1919, 1920 Bolshevik Anarcho-Communism bombings in DC and NYC w/ todays OWS.

The only way Obummer gets re-elected is if he comes out{ Check pictures on Drudge for dual meaning} and publicly declares this Obamacare law a turkey. This is the hubris of pole-vaulting this through with reconciliation. This law cannot stand because not only is it unconstitutional, it is illegal.

Violence, is inevitable, I fear. The flow of money is what is most precious to the SQ.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/17/occupy-wall-street-plans-massive-rally-to-disrupt-new-york-stock-exchange/

"Occupy Wall Street activists have vowed to avenge their eviction from a protest camp with an attempt Thursday to disrupt the New York Stock Exchange, then rally on the city’s subway and major bridges.

The website occupywallst.org announced a “Global Day of Action” that will combine demonstrations across the United States with protests in other nations including Belgium, Germany, Poland and Spain.

The level of participation in the rallies could provide a clear indication of Occupy Wall Street’s clout exactly two months since the movement sprang up to protest against the elite “one percent” — and two days after New York police cleared out the tent camp in Manhattan.

“We will no longer tolerate the oppression of the one percent,” the OWS website said.

“This is why we’re fighting back tomorrow…. We will shut down Wall Street and we will #occupy all of New York City with our bodies, voices and ideas.”

Better yet, challenge those "1%ers" to disclose their returns to see how cleverly they game the system. If they get a higher tax rate it will only mean that they will do a little more accounting finess in order to maintain they're status quo.

Journalism used to be a courageous endeavor...

http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/

"In the early hours of Tuesday morning, New York City reporters described 1) feeling too intimidated to report what the police were doing; and 2) incidents in which police physically prevented the press from doing its job--two characteristics of a police state. A third characteristic of a police state is when news organizations conceal the fact that their reporters are not free to report stories.
Increasingly, journalism in the U.S. amounts to distributing excerpts of interviews with public officials or members of Washington's "revolving door class." Think CNN correspondent Barbara Starr telling viewers what the Pentagon and its corporate partners wants them to hear. Or a retired general tasked by CNN to explain the true meaning of a video the Pentagon has been covering-up. In important respects, U.S. media coverage of police campaigns against citizen protesters has come to resemble the media's coverage of military operations abroad. Nine times out of ten, Americans hear only their own government's perspective on a drone campaign against "terrorists." Needless to say, the militarization of domestic journalism is happening at the precise historical moment when Americans are waking up to the militarization of their local police.

Well, digby, they do have the Power. That makes it 'right'.

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/

"The United States has never had fully militarised police before, armed with the kind of high-tech surveillance and weaponry that would never be allowed if the National Guard were called up in an emergency. And neither have we ever had such a malleable definition of what constitutes an emergency. At a time of increasing citizen unrest, it's a volatile combination.

Certainly the government seems to have been preparing for such confrontations for some time now.

Whether the people will accept high-tech "pain compliance" to "modify" dissent remains to be seen. If the attitude towards Tasers is any guide, many won't have a problem with it and "enhanced interrogation" of terrorist suspects has become, at best, a moral grey area for many in the US.

We have essentially normalised torture and created a high-tech police apparatus with more capability than any military in history. Human nature suggests that if you build it, they will use it.

In case you hadn't noticed, there was this thing called the TEA Party that started a little while back.

Why is it that your solutions to the excess power of the Big Money, Big Labor, Big Government "Corporate Monarchy" is alway more government in the form of more regulations, which simply enhance all three legs of current power structure.

Please remember that "even as they thwart that free market ideal for their own ends" is achieved through Big Government regulations that make it too exspensive for smaller enterprises to function in the market place, and excessive taxes that prevent new centers of capital from accumulating and threatening the existing Big Money groups market power, while at the same time providing Big Labor with overpaid government jobs to regulate smaller enterprises out if existance.

This nexus of Big, Government, Money, and Labor is exactly what the TEA Party opposes, yet you resist joining it. Why is that?

So, do you have more freedom today than you did before you heard Obama's name?

Is it really just another word for nothin' left to lose?

I read a great deal about regulations, economic growth, those three agencies, 999, Obamacare, Obamaville, litigation and the like, but very little about freedom.

rse

LUN may explain why he's not a conservative mayor.

Ranger

Ben-Dana,

All your concern about over-policing is touching, but I don't recall you complaining about the over-reaction to the TEA Party rallies of the last couple of years. No one on the left seemed worried at all about riot police deployed around peaceful TEA Partiers around the country. Funny how that works.

Benjamin Franklin

"So, do you have more freedom today than you did before you heard Obama's name?"

WTF kind of fantasy are you living? We have Freedom? Here's the freedom we enjoy; 'paper or plastic?'. Our freedom has always been illusory at worst, false choices, at best. Obama is just the seamless continuation of what freedoms they wish us to have to further the overall agenda. What a maroon.

Maroon? Benji-- when you get out an see more of the world you'll appreciate how in the vast majority of this blue ball in space we call Earth, the USA and her citizens are but a tiny minority of humans who have the blessing of freedom. An American making $34,000 per year is in the top 1% in the world. These people aren't angry because they aren't well off, they are angry because a lot of people do better than they do. It is an unwholesome emotion, and I have no sympathy for them. I laugh at them, with their cell-phones and their laptops and their hundred-dollar running shoes.

Benjamin Franklin

A word about cops, in general; In my life I have had numerous positive experiences with cops. I don't wish to paint them all as control-freaks and Authoritarian Swine. Many are good people.
Unfortunately, like all sub-groups, there are some swine. A marine once told me, 'you'll find the best people, and the worst, in the Corps'. Why? Because a license to kill, is just that to some psychos. We have them in every bureaucracy. But most bureaucracies don't sanction the use of lethal weapons..

Funny, I just saw an OWS protester tell a CNN reporter that their message is to tell the world "we are all part of the 99%".

The CNN reporter did not mention that is simply not true.

narciso

No, NK, he's lived in Turkey, Japan, China,
even visited Afghanistan, reality doesn't register with him at all.

Ranger

These people aren't angry because they aren't well off, they are angry because a lot of people do better than they do.

Actually, I think it is because they thought if they got the right credentials, they would be allowed to live like those who live a lot better by getting a high paid, do nothing government or NGO job which would allow them to make good money, do very little work, and feel good about themselves. They borrowed a lot of money to hang out for 4 to 8 years getting that golden ticket, and it turns out the rides are all closed for the time being.

Benjamin Franklin

DoT; I f found your comment about income inequality around the world fascinating. It' the counterpoint to NK's humorous comment about 'relative freedoms' around the World, somehow making us
the top 1% of freedom. Get the absurd conjunction?

MayBee

Carol whatshername, CNN reporter, is explaining that OWS is trying to bring the 99% to the attention of the people, because the Republican Right refuses to recognize the 99%.

(Yes, I have CNN on because there are workmen in the house. So sue me.)

NK

narciso- OK thanks. So Benji's just a forever bitter Lefty. His loss.

NK

Ranger says: "They borrowed a lot of money to hang out for 4 to 8 years getting that golden ticket, and it turns out the rides are all closed for the time being." Bingo -- you have now described the footsoldiers of OWS. Other people's money ran out as they got their advanced degrees in sociology, women's studies and communication, so no NGO or Foundation job for them, no golden ticket based on their expensive credentials. They ar the unhappy footsoldiers. The OWS generals of course are the same old Lefties from the Cambodia bombing, no-nukes, anti-apartheit marches.

Ranger,

More probably - they signed on for a debt collar to take advantage of open enrollment policies at Pitzer and wandered off before completing a degree due to overexposure to third rate lefty sophists such as Professor Dana Ward. Overexposure to leftist drivel left them convinced that they must always be mad at someone else for the fact that they were second rate right from kindergarten and should never have been awarded that first participation ribbon for their ability to breathe.

Jim Ryan

The OWS students - during adolescence, which continues late these days, into 19, 20, 21 years of age - were ushered into deep and hopeless debt without the maturity of adulthood necessary to make a more prudent decision. They got screwed by their parents, their colleges, and the federal government, all of whom created this system in which 19 year olds are not yet mature and "one goes to college" and "it's okay for anyone to major in liberal arts" and "one takes out enormous student loans." So screwed are they that they are asking for more of what screwed them: big government, big taxes, big spending. The cunning totalitarian causes his victims to cry out for more of his oppression.
