The Times' version of Mother Courage.

Actually I think men--esp white men are derogated in every other way possible and I'm waiting for them to wise up , buy my pikes and storm the propaganda citadels.

Annoying Old Guy
double standard that leads to women but not (straight) men being derogated sexually
As for example, Breitbart being called "fag" so many times.
Old Lurker

Clarice, when was the last time you saw a commercial that did not feature a dumb white male?

Clarice

I cannot even remember OL. It's been that long.

Jane

Actually I think men--esp white men are derogated in every other way possible and I'm waiting for them to wise up

I know. I think about all the little white boys growing up thinking - "sheesh, I suck".

As for example, Breitbart being called "fag" so many times.

This is a hallmark of liberals. Last time one called me a lesbian I asked them if I was supposed to be insulted by that since I have nothing against lesbians. And then I asked they considered calling a person gay an insult since they are supposed to be for the gays. I think Breitbart took pretty much the same tact. It works.

Jane

And then I asked WHY they considered calling a person gay...

Bruni obviously has never heard the words "gash hound" "horn dog" or "squack stabber" among other less than complimentary terms for "swordsmen". But then they lead a rather sheltered life there at the Old Gray Lady.

The Kindle commercials had a cute blonde lugging around giant, heavy, inconvenient books until a technologically savvy man showed her Amazon's reader.

I'm not sure what it means that the only ad I can think of that shows a man in a positive light is for a company named after a race of fierce warrior women.

It is Obama's PAC that is running it. But it is a good strategy, according to Joe "I helped Dean lose" Trippi.

Washington Examiner:Vice President Joe Biden addressed 87 wealthy Democrats last night attending a fundraiser at the home of Sen. John Kerry in Georgetown. As they dined on grass-fed New York strip steaks and white truffle mashed potatos underneath a outdoor tent, Biden criticized Republicans for being out of touch.

“These guys don’t have a sense of the average folks out there,” Biden said according to the pool report, “They don’t know what it means to be middle class.”

87 guests paid a minimum of $10,000-per-couple to attend the dinner.

Sue

Clarice,

That made me laugh. I'm sure that wasn't Biden's intention, but damn...

Apparently BO has prepared some introductory remarks for a Cartoon Network special to be shown this weekend on bullying.

Would anyone be surprised to know the remedies offered to get a better school climate have nothing to do with bullying?

Same remedy as for the higher rates of discipline issues among minorities.

What a day. To think it all started with recognizing an hbr article was deliberately trying to play its readers towards a desired direction. They sure are busy up in Cambridge these days.

We can't drill in ANWR because it might disturb the Caribou Herd...What would our moral betters over in sophisticated, compassionate Northern Europe think of us if we did that?

Dateline Sweden: Hundreds of Reindeer slaughtered by High Speed Trains in Sweden.

Surely compassionate Sweden will take action.

Won't link to The Atlantic, but there is a story over there in which the author speculates that a solution to AGW is in the future we bio-genetically modify humans so that they have eyes like cats and can see in the dark and therefore won't need to harm the environment by overusing artificial lighting.

I'm not making this up.

AliceH

daddy - this just in via TAH blog:

"There’s a new petition for the White House to keep Limbaugh on AFN. The White House’s guidlines say that if a petition reaches 25,000 votes it will give an official response. The petition to censor Limbaugh is a few days old and at about 22k over 25k."

Hmm. Link to the petition in the blogpost which is LUN.

Janet

Well between that & the LSD recommendation the human race will be kaput. :(

AliceH

...at about 22k over 25K...

Thomas Collins

JR and Rick, I think that dishonest anti-Palin ad (I say "dishonest" because the cutting and pasting of Palin's words is beyond the pale even within the universe of attack ads) was done for fundraising purposes, and I think it will shake some dollars out of well heeled progs for Obama. If Obama has to resort to this, however, shaking the prog trees is not going so well.

Thomas Collins

So windmills kill the birds and high speed trains kill the reindeer. I think PETA should file a complaint with the International Criminal Court against everyone in the "green" movement.

BTW, James Okeefe' latest 20 minute video showing how easy it is to commit Voter Fraud in Vermont is another beauty. A perfect follow-on to Holder's tossing of Texas's Voter ID Law yesterday.

Hope this gets big airtime.

Clarice

More Taranto (I do love him I admit)
"But there's another problem with identity politics: Unless it's directed against a specific scapegoat--such as blacks in the pre-civil-rights South--it leads only to unstable, balkanized coalitions. Blogger Keith Burgess-Jackson quotes the late Derrick Bell, developer of "critical race theory," railing against white women in a 2000 article:

Regretfully, as with so many other reforms in U.S. society, though often the result of efforts by Black people, affirmative action has been of far more help to Whites, particularly for White women. All too many White women, having reached positions previously closed to them, have transformed themselves into guardians of the status quo, opposed to persons of color who lack "traditional" qualifications.
Of course the multiculturalist left has attempted to solve this problem by scapegoating "white males" and trying to unite everyone else against them. One problem with that is that, as much as feminism has poisoned relations between the sexes, most women are fond of at least some men."

Extraneus

I received this email from James earlier today:

Fifty-seven days . . .

That's the amount of time that went by between the first release of our Voter Fraud investigation and the passing of a new Voter ID bill in the New Hampshire Senate.

While we do not advocate specific resolutions to the issues we expose, it's clear that our work makes an impact.

And we're just getting started.

Last week, our small team of investigators visited Vermont during Super Tuesday.

Providing the names of both the living and the deceased, our investigators were offered ballots at every opportunity with no questions asked aside from the occasional correct pronunciation of a name . . . even when addressing the poll workers in French and stating foreign addresses.

When our team members offered to present ID, they were told repeatedly, "You don't need it." One worker oddly stated, "We Believe You," when registering to vote on Primary Day.

While the upbeat volunteers and workers involved in Vermont's electoral process were incredibly trusting to take any name and situation - no matter how absurd - at face value, other Vermont establishments were quick to crack down on photo ID requirements.

When our road-weary investigators stopped at a bar, hotel or restaurant, the statist requirements of photo verification were brought down like an iron hammer.

Admittedly our guys are stubborn in their values for liberty and felt if they were just offered primary ballots at the mention of a name, the should be able to grab a drink or a hotel room - and even a "civil union" license - without being required to present "papers."

Before you watch the juxtaposition of the various scenarios in our video released this morning, please continue reading.

Our small operation continues to need your support, not to just to continue our work, but to thrive and grow.

You can count the number of dedicated people involved in Project Veritas' ground-breaking work on your fingers alone - we have only ONE "deployable" team who are backed by an even smaller group for logistics support and training.

Now, imagine our impact if we could move past a finger count and - with your support - are able to hire and train multiple teams to deploy around the nation!

After you watch our latest release, show your support with a tax-deductible contribution.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and dedication.

"I think that dishonest anti-Palin ad ... was done for fundraising purposes"

Makes sense. I visit Yahoo news stories from time to time to "like" comments that are anti-Administration. I generally see gobs of anti-Progs on the comment boards. In a recent article about the anti-Palin movie, though, libs came out of the woodwork to assure each other that yes, Sarah is dumb. Eye-opening.

Well, that's no excuse for the older terms (I came up with "rake" and "roué" off the top of the head), and "hound dog" and "dawg" are both common and au courant.

Sue

I wouldn't spend 5 minutes watching a movie about Obama. Even one where he was portrayed as he really is, not how they want him to be. Why would someone who hated Palin want to watch a movie about her? Even one that mocked and ridiculed her? Makes no sense to me.

Why is Obama running the Sarah Palin ad?

It's called innoculation.

Any truth by Republicans about Obama's past associations or activities will be dismissed as right-wing fanaticism.

Sue

Other than run for vice president, what the hell did Sarah Palin do to these people to cause them to become so rabid? I don't get it.

AliceH

Sue - it's not possible for a rational person to "get it".

Rick Ballard

"I think it will shake some dollars out of well heeled progs for Obama."

TC,

I doubt it. The Soros, Bing, Lewis, Strong prog thieves were all invested in Skydragon air tax schemes. They all know the window is slamming shut and they all know that the demographic breeze in their face is freshening. The Gore loss set them on their heels and set off the investment in the Deaniac movement which saw voter participation rise from 55% in '00 to 61% in '04. Undaunted by Kerry's loss, they doubled down in '05 and hit big in '06 and '08.

The big prog money can read and count and they know that '10 was no fluke, just as they know that the Deaniac/occupooper contingent is absolutely no match for the Boomers marching into tightfisted geezerdom. The vast majority of progs are going to be begging for a sip of water before demographics swings toward the dumb side again and money can't fix that particular problem.

Ben Franklin

" I don't get it."

Palin was, apparently, unaware of the disadvantages of running for office, and was sold a bill of goods by people who thought there was nothing they couldn't accomplish. She was unsuited, and unprepared for anything except removing glitter and confetti after her Parade.

I felt sorry for her.

But the movie is really about the selection process, which seems to have doubled-down in a desperate effort to deny the mistake.

Look at your Primaries and the proud panoply of candidates vying for the nomination. If you can't recognize the errata of past performance, you're doomed.

Publius from Idaho

Sarah is an anathema to everything the womans lib movement represents. She has all the qualities lacking in the progressives, attractivness, self-assurance, patriotism, and achievement. She must be destroyed.

Palin is the equivalant to placing the cross in the face of the evil one.

Gus

I said it the day McCain picked Sarah Palin.
Libs will have to destroy her.

She kills animals for food, she doesn't kill her own babies.
Libs consider her an UNCLE MOM to their cause. She isn't "down with the struggle".
You see, liberals cannot stand self sufficient, moral, talented, responsible, articulate attractive women.
They like Debbie WassTARDman-Schlitz types. Angry hacks who are unfulfilled in every way. Futhermore, it cannot be spiritually lifting to want to kill your own child, because you CAN.

Sue

Publius,

That's how it appears. You can almost see them recoil in fear of her. Like garlic to a vampire. Or the cross in the face of the evil one.

Sue

She was unsuited, and unprepared for anything except removing glitter and confetti after her Parade.

So you don't vote for her. Why the hatred?

September 19, 2008: What Sarah Palin did.

"All of my women friends, a week ago Monday, were on the verge of throwing themselves out windows," an author and political activist, Nancy Kricorian of Manhattan, said yesterday. "People were flipping out. ... Every woman I know was in high hysteria over this. Everyone was just beside themselves with terror that this woman could be our president — our potential next president."

Ms. Kricorian allowed that she was among those driven to distraction, upon occasion, by Mrs. Palin's nomination. "My Facebook status last Monday was, 'Nancy is freaking out about Sarah Palin yet again,'" the writer said.

A posting on a New York-based Web site for women, Jezebel.com, spoke of unbridled anger. "What I feel for her privately could be described as violent, nay, murderous, rage," an associate editor at Jezebel, Jessica Grose, wrote just after the Republican convention wrapped up. "When Palin spoke on Wednesday night, my head almost exploded from the incandescent anger boiling in my skull."

Why wouldn't we lionize someone who was able to do that? Did they make a campaign season movie about Mitt Romney?

Sue

Ex,

That still doesn't explain the why. I know how much they hate her but I don't get the spitting hatred of her. She is a nobody from Alaska, with no ability to harm them. But they act like she is a voodoo goddess with the ability to cast spells or something. It's just plain weird to me, their hatred of her. I hate Obama, but it is for what he has done as president, not just because he is. You know what I mean?

Ben Franklin

"Why the hatred?"

I don't hate her, but I assume you want me to tell you why others do.

I don't know why, except maybe she inspires antipathy the way Pelosi might.

Sue

I assumed you knew since you bothered to respond.

Sue

And antipathy is not what they feel towards her.

AliceH

Thanks for that link, Ex, though it is more descriptive than explanatory of the rage.

Ben Franklin

"I assumed you knew since you bothered to respond."

I guess I did expand a little on your sectored question.

Gus

LIBTARDS and COMMIES hate THE TRUTH.
They hate what Palin stands for.
And they double hate that she is attractive.
And they triple hate that she tells it like it is.
And what makes the FREAK OUT, is that...they KNOW she is RIGHT.
Woman are supposed to support ENDLESS GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS and BABY KILLING. The LIBTARD PARTY thinks they OWN women.
The FLUKE thing is emblematic of how little respect the LEFT has for women.
Woman are too stupid to keep themselves from getting PREGNANT. That's what the government is for.

Extraneus

I haven't seen a convincing explanation for it yet. Is there a good explanation for why vampires recoil at the sight of a Crucifix?

Sue - fear. Deep fear. Hate what you fear. Become crazed yourself in your hatred and your expression of it and you might scare away what you fear.

Unfortunately, those folks heads are still intact, not that it made any significant difference, She called out the Lightbringer,
she ridiculed his life work, everything she has ever done, she has had to fight for, nothing has ever been given to her. The one
thing that she was awarded, the ethics office of the oil commission, she soon rebelled against, challenging the state party, not once, not twice, but thrice. They are responding to a construct generated by the Journolist, from the moment she was selected.

Extraneus

The "unqualified" excuse was laughable, too. She was more qualified to be Chief Executive than McCain, Obama and Biden. Surely she was more qualified to be Vice President than Geraldine Ferraro or John Edwards.

I think it was a Good vs. Evil thing, personally. Still is. After reading all of her emails, just imagine anyone else, anyone, having 30,000 emails scrutinized by a pack of wolves, and not one email showing anything but a committed public servant competently doing his or her job. They were grammatically correct, too.

Jim Ryan

Palin is good, true, and beautiful. The wicked are driven to spasms of rage by those three, especially when they combine.

OldTimer

Sarah Palin employs to the best of her ability the power available to all believers. That "power" flows throughout her being and surrounds her in light. With her words and through her actions she bears the fruit of her convicted spirit. Her courage serves as an inspiration to many who recognize her servant's heart.

And THAT, my friends, is why the Left is so frightened of her.

NK

BenF-- your critical review of the HBO flick and Palin is clear, concise and may be right-- I have no idea because I haven't, and won't, see the flick. As far as your concern for conservatives political chances-- don't worry yourself about that. Conservatives will deal with whatever comes. You may want to worry about the fortunes of your own causes. The higher ed bubble is bursting, the welfare state is rapidly running out of OPM, and 'Bam, Nancy and Harry have steered the US to national bankruptcy and a dead economy bouncing along bottom so there'll be no tax dough to fund the causes you support. Those are the things you should be concerned with.

Gus

Extraneus, you are correct. What kind of person would see the life Palin has lived and be as HATEFUL as LIBTARDS are.
She is EVERYTHING they are not. She is a decent person. Most liberals are only as decent as they have to be to stay out of jail.

jimmyk

It's also the Clarence Thomas phenomenon--when anyone other than a white male is a strong conservative, it makes liberals' heads explode, and that person must be destroyed.

matt

speaking about Jokin' Joe, my latest. LUN

The beauty angle can't be discounted. I don't see much evidence that men are intimidated by good-looking male politicians or movie actors, but women seem to be different in that regard. Especially liberal women. It was lib women who hated Palin so viscerally from Day One. Their henpecked consorts were forced to toe the line, or else.

centralcal

And THAT, my friends, is why the Left is so frightened of her.

It pains me greatly to say this, but there are quite a few who claim to be on OUR side who seem equally frightened of her.

jimmyk

They have hated hated every woman of the right they've ever met.

There just are demons, devils, and there is no reason why. You can think of them as features of the human nervous system or as genuine persons pictured in religious art as having horns or cloven hooves. They hate goodness and their reason for being is to get human beings to hate it, too. Everyone is subject to their proddings and urgings. Some people succumb to them completely, some are hardly swayed by them, and the rest of us fall in the middle of the spectrum somewhere.

Those of us toward the dark end of the spectrum hate the person way up at the light end. They aren't in control and they don't know why they hate her. The demons are in the driver's seat. Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.

Ben Franklin

I hear a lot of feckless supposition, but declarations of 'qualified' need some backup. None. thus far.
