How about "David Stern Suspends World Peace?"

Threadkiller

Mark Latrine played clips of this speech. He pointed out the conflict of Obama's narrative. With a near 1% income he struggled to pay off his loan, yet he is compelled to increase the taxes on anyone who has a similar income, making it even harder to pay off their loans.

jwest

This young Obama fellow sounds like a humble, hard working guy who had to make his own breaks in life.

I don’t understand why the press doesn’t like him.

Yoicks.

Heh, let's hear more about his background.
===========

MarkO

I want to see the "fairness" theme turned back on Obama. I think it's started.

Osawattamie Brown

Because he's a race hustler and race baiter who wants to take away guns, force people to become Muslims, Mormons, atheists or catholics. He also wants aid the Jews in their quest to control world banking.
Then there is the war against Christmas.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Osawattamie Brown

He also joined the Blackstone Rangers/El ruykn/P-Stone nation when he moved to that toddlin' town.

"Michelle and I, we've been in your shoes," the president told students Tuesday at the University of North Carolina as he called on Congress to extend a break in school loan interest rates. "Like I said, we didn't come from wealthy families."
You know? He's right. They're just like anyone who got a free ride to Colombia, Princeton and Harvard.

At just the right moment - for example, today - Romney should ask Obama for evidence of their student loans.

NK

'Bam's theme dujour (war on women, and do nothing Congress having been the proverbial lead balloons) is STUDENT LOANS!!. OK let's see, 'Bam ran in 2008 on the bad economy caused by --oh yes-- to much debt. Now to entice voters he's urging that we give students-- MORE DEBT. Madness. On top of that, why are students taking too much debt in the first place-- high tuition at monopolistic universities. Universities which are run by greedy, fat and content LEFTIST academics and administrators. So lefty academics price fix tuition and fees, and then a Leftist POTUS urges that the rest of us subsidize loans to pay price fixed tuition, which student loans will default in the near future. This is Orwellian 1984 (or Chicago)

Osawattamie Brown

Romney won't do that because he does not want to come off like a wack job.

BB Key

TK. the whole student loan story from Mooch and Barry is full holes . Barry gave more info yesterday in Chapel Hill :
120K im 1992 when they married.
Paid in full 2004.
Loan payments more than condo mortgage.
Now that Barry is on the record will MSM follow up? :)

In case anybody wants to visit "limbo," now, thanks to CNN's headline writers, we know where it is.

Town where Trayvon Martin died in 'limbo'

DebinNC

Didn't Obama's takeover of the student loan business make taxpayers responsible to repay defaulters' loans?

Limbo is a Papist idea! Do not be taken in by The Whore of Babylon!

Norton "Nork" Bonaparte:

“Well, it’s a little cold today. It’s unusual for Florida. In terms of the City Commission meeting, it was also cold. You had a lot of people at the meeting. You had a lot of police supporters and you have those who say that chief lee should not come back. That’s why tensions got pretty hot last night.”
Cold, Cold, Hot ... Meh, all the same.
Bob

I guess the other made up stuff to run against the Republicans isn't working out too well. So he is going to trot out the old biography of a navel gazer ACT II to dazzle the masses. He is endlessly fascinated by himself. He is the guy at the party who talks too loud, too long, and only about himself. Soon everyone is squeezed into the kitchen to get away from him.

Don't forget Climax, also in Michigan (just a few miles from my old hangout, Marshall)

Harmony, California that is.

The good news is that more people live in Harmony than ever before. Used to be 16.

Martin's family and the special prosecutor appointed to investigate the case have rejected Zimmerman's self-defense claim, saying they believe Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher who advised him to stop following Martin, racially profiled the young man and unjustly killed him.

Three beliefs: one of which is not a crime, nor supported by evidence; another of which is provably false; and the third of which they have provided no evidence to support.

CNN left out this tidbit from Bonaparte at the meeting:

“What has become more apparent to me is that it may take 3-plus more months for an outside federal agency to come in,” Bonaparte said in the meeting.”

Hmm....

Closer to home ...

Ralph L

Like the time he didn't eat a cat?
This is horribly racist, since everyone knows black men don't go "downtown". But it might explain why Michelle always seems so angry.

Porchlight

All this hate directed at Romney from people who had zero trouble pulling the lever for one-percenty silver spooner John FORBES Kerry and his ultra-rich wife who inherited all her billions from her dead Republican first husband.

Pathetic.

There's also Paradise Heights just a short drive from Sanford Limbo.

So he is now an official DOJ plant. That should go over well.

The fix is in. The feds told Dee Dee when she was interviewed that she would not be called before a Grand Jury because GZ would be charged before then. Now it seems a given hate crime charges will be brought.

Disconnection From Reality!

A nice post on NRO yesterday about the actual scope and impact of Obama's "Don't Double My Rate" (student loan) tour.

This is the middle bit, but the rest is good, too:

"...the president’s plan would apply only to those 23 million loans being borrowed directly from the federal government. Except that not all of those would benefit; it would apply only to the 9.5 million loans being borrowed through the so-called subsidized Stafford loans. Except the lower rate would apply only to new borrowers who apply this year. Except that no payments are made until after graduation, so it would not help anyone for several years. Except that it would lower monthly payments by an average of only $7."

Happy Birthday to Mark Folkestad.

Reading all the comments I missed (multiple threads) last night, I have to say the wikipedia listing that someone posted of Michelle's brilliance has to be a fake. Just listen to her when she speaks, or worse yet, read anything she has written. Pheh!

Ignatz

--Did you know that its 603 Miles/Minutes from Intercourse (PA) to Climax (MI)?--

603 minutes? Ouch.
Do you pass through the town of Tantra on the way?

NK

Barry/Moose loans-- It's possible they racked up $120K in loans between them for Havard Law School. 6 years combined tuition plus living expenses would have been about $200K; if 50% of that came from HLS aid and summer work, that leaves them borrowing about $120K. I could see that.

DrJ

No, not Tantra, but you pass by Hell on the way (it is outside of Ann Arbor)

Climax is appropriately near Battle (Creek).

I always referred to that place as Beetle Crack. Worst divers in the world, too.

Jane (Better a crate than a plate)

Obama has never worked a day in his life - and that includes the last 3 years as far as I'm concerned. He has never struggled and my guess is if he took out loans they were to pay for coke and other pass times. He went to expensive private schools and traveled the world. There were no Saturdays working at McDonalds in his biography.

I wonder if the Obamas will be the first first couple to ever divorce after the white house. It always seems like Michelle can hardly wait.

Caspar Weinburger

If he ever ate a cat, his election chances would be zero.

Same skills evident in North Carolina when it snows, I think. But in Battle Creek, it's a year-round thing, rain or shine.

I do have fond memories of "Emilio's" Mexican food though, just out of town east on Michigan Ave. Alas, he's dead and gone.

Bob

Going to Harvard Law, racking up big debt, is usually not a problem because they go into big firms and make big bucks and pay it back. The same goes for physicians who then get out of school, work their a$$es off, and pay back their loans. The problems is when they decide not to practice their profession. There are many reasons they decide not to practice such as they are crazy, not terribly bright, lazy, or natural born screw-ups. Whining about being too poor to pay back their Harvard loans just indicates they didn't want to work hard enough to do it.

NK

Bob- well in truth, Moose got herself an AA job at a big firm, so she could pay HLS debt. 'Bam was a pauper until the politics stuff paid off big in book royalties in 2004

fdcol63

Indeed. Let's find out exactly how Obama paid for college.

NK

PS: 'bam's political connections did get Moose a fat $300+ K job at UC Med Center for 'community relations'. So 'Bam did contribute that $$.

AliceH

I'm not up to speed on the Grandmother/glass ceiling story. She was a VP at a bank, wasn't she? I don't know VP of what, or what bank (i.e. how many employees it had/opportunities for advancement within). I'd be grateful for easy links on it, lest I have to fumble through with my barely-adequate google-skills.

Bob

"Moose got herself an AA job at a big firm". Yep but she didn't stay long enough to rise through the ranks to make much. That takes a little time and you have to pay your dues and do the unglamorous grunt work. I think she split for Da Mayor's office and while her legal training may have been beneficial she was not in the city attorney's office.

Also Obama is the only Harvard Law Reviewer that did not get a clerkship that I have ever heard of. Did he not apply, get turned down, what? That experience in invaluable in whatever direction you choose to go.

Osawattamie Brown

Achild of divorce. Lives with his Grandparents. Has comfortable but not wealthy Grandparents who he lives with. He Makes good grades, works hard, makes good decisions. Damn CAKE EATER.

You people are sheep. Come up with some new slogans. Stop listening to former Classic rock DJs turned demogogues. Don't believe every crazy ass chain mail you receive.

NK

Bob-- all fair points. Bottomline, because of their life choices the 'Bams were rolling over HLS debt until 'Bam's royalties from Ayers' book came in 2004.

Porchlight

My understanding is that he didn't apply, Bob. He went back to Chicago, got a job teaching Constitutional law or whatever, directed Project Vote, do the Woods/Joyce foundation thing, Annenberg, get Ayers to write his book, etc.

Porchlight

Bob

My understanding is that he didn't apply, Bob.

That is probably true, but it sort of sets up my point. Those clerks work their butts off and are serious about learning and their careers. This would indicate to me at least that he was never serious about it. It was just another item in a resume of career climbing and why he has never mastered anything including making money without someone handing it to him.

Yeah. Not far from North Windham.

NK

The Royalties from the book that Ayers wrote, from the life that was subsidized by Ayers senior, while 'bam was smokin' weed and doing coke. all in all, 'Bam coasted through a pretty cushy skippy van heusen III like life-- unfortunately, instead of bankrupting the family business like skippy, 'Bam bankrupted-- well US.

Porchlight

Totally agree with your 12:10, Bob. Just a rung on a ladder.

Bob

He went back to Chicago, got a job teaching Constitutional law or whatever

Obama never worked anywhere very long and almost all of it was part-time. The Challenge thing, Illinois lege, teaching night school was all part-time and seldom with a full time job and doing all of the community stuff which is what most young Harvard lawyers do. If you wrote a time line and how much time each job required it aint't much. Those of us who worked 60 hour weeks until we were 40, and cut back to 50 hours until we were 50 are not impressed especially if someone like Obama is "poor mouthin'".

Anyone ever see an Obama daily schedule which indicates he's at work before 11:00 a.m. and clocks out after 4:00 p.pm... after a long lunch? I haven't, except for the "Healthcare Summitt" which ran long and Obama seemed at the end to be crawling the walls.

NK

BenF-- negatives?... hmm?.... let's see:
8+% unemployment; 4M people drop out of the workforce; 8% ANNUAL food inflation; Doubled gas prices since Jan 2009; $5TRILLION in additional debt; house prices STILL haven't reached bottom; incomes flat; %50% of 2012 college grads UN or UNDERemployed; crony deals AND DEFAULTS; racialist rhetoric--
nope, no negatives there for 'Bam with the indy voters who'll decide the election. Dream on Ben.

Bob

...which ran long and Obama seemed at the end to be crawling the walls.

Sitting somewhere for hours acting like you want to be there and are interested is another hard learned life skill that Obama may have missed on his speedy trip up the ladder. Also looking someone in the eye and nodding while you are planning lunch is useful.

jwest

NK, None of the negatives will matter when Mitt wins in a landslide. The press will say that it was due to republicans pushing the “eating dog” meme.

NK

When Mitt wins? 1. Bam expresses 'shame' at being an American, says america is still a deeply and pathologically racist country-- becomes chairman of the Islamic Nations Conference; 2. The Media expresses shock at the bigotry and narrowmindedness of the American voter, and says much national introspection is needed-- begins daily stories of the horrors of 7% unemployment, 3.5% GDP and $3/gal gas.

cboldt

-- cboldt,my husband went to St.Joseph's College --

Walking distance for me. Doggie dog and I were there this morning.

AliceH

jwest - you've alluded to something important there. We would be well-served to ensure the press has some handy but non-toxic "here's why O lost" excuses at the ready.

NK

BenF-- Obama's negatives are all that matters, Mitt is ABO.

Friends?-- full disclosure, I try to be polite to everyone at JOM (with occasional lapses because of my famous Greek temper), but friends BenF?-- no, not really. I'm sure you're fine with that.

Comanche Voter

"I understand he didn't apply" for a Clerkship. Let's just say that Obama was the "odd man out" as Harvard Law Review President. Those dudes--and dudettes--are virtually guaranteed a Supreme Court Clerkship. I won't say that the Supremes have an NFL style draft lottery to see who snags this year's President of the Harvard Law Review, but it comes close.

If a student is really good at a top law school (I went to Boalt at UC Berkeley) the law profs will be singing his or her praises to their connections on the Supreme Court or in prestigious Circuit Courts of Appeal. It's all part of "promoting the brand". In my day the top guy at Boalt was automatically offered a Supreme Court Clerkship with Chief Justice Warren. Famed student lefty and future legal lefty star Michael Tigar was the exception in 1966. His political background made him a bit of a hot potato for Warren.

But it may all be explained by the use of the word "apply". Barack Obama is basically a lazy sod. Whatever his intellectual talents may be (and there is some question about what he actually possessses in that regard) he just doesn't want to work very hard.

As Molly Ivins said about George Bush, "Shrub was born on third base and thought he hit a triple." Barack Obama was given the job as President of Harvard Law Review as an affirmative action candidate with a talent for schmoozing. Whether he ever had the intellectual capacity to do that job, he sure as hell didn't have the desire to work to that level. But he's managed to persuade a good chunk of the American Public that he had the ability to merit that job. Well if you can't blind them with brillance (somewhat beyond The Bamster's capacity) try bamboozling them with BS. That's the ticket! And that's the Obama Solution.

NK

CommancheVoter/anyone-- at the time in 1991, did SCOTUS clerks have to complete standard federal backround checks and drug testing? in 1991 GHWBush policy was any coke use was an automatic disqualifer for federal employment above a certain GS level. Did 'Bam obstain from clerkship because of having to submit to federal background check?

Sour Grapes

Run for President.

Danube of Thought

DrJ

NK

the arizona immigation statute? how did it go?

Captain Hate

2. The Media expresses shock at the bigotry and narrowmindedness of the American voter, and says much national introspection is needed-- begins daily stories of the horrors of 7% unemployment, 3.5% GDP and $3/gal gas.

And rediscovers the homeless after they strangely disappeared for 4 years.

DrJ

Yes. I followed the live blogging at the WSJ (behind the paywall, alas). Here's their initial take (sorry for the length):

Several Supreme Court justices said they couldn't see legal problems in a central part of Arizona's tough anti-immigration law, but some other provisions of the law received more skepticism at arguments Wednesday.

In a session that went 20 minutes over the allotted time, the justices focused on one section of the law that requires police officers to check the immigration status of anyone they stop if the officers are suspicious of the person's right to be in the U.S.

Several justices said they couldn't understand the legal distinction between allowing ad-hoc checking of a person's immigration status and codifying that into a general policy, since federal law already requires the federal government to answer questions from state officials about a person's status.

Chief Justice John Roberts said the section merely required state officers to notify the federal government that they had picked up an illegal immigrant and it was entirely up to the federal government to decide whether to take action against that person. Chief Justice Roberts said he couldn't understand how that interfered with federal discretion over immigration enforcement.

The question before the court was whether the Arizona law interfered with federal law, which both sides agree enjoys primacy in questions of immigration.

Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, representing the Obama administration, said the status-checking provision worked with the Arizona law's other provisions to undermine federal immigration policy as legislated by Congress.

But no member of the court—even those on the liberal wing—expressed clear agreement with Mr. Verrilli's stance on that point. "You can see it's not selling very well," said Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who said she was confused by Mr. Verrilli's answer as to why a statewide rule on checking status was worse than an ad-hoc policy.

In addition to requiring the status checks, the 2010 Arizona law makes it a crime for immigrants without work permits to seek employment, authorizes police to arrest any foreign citizen they believe has committed a deportable offense and makes it a crime for foreigners to fail to carry registration documents.

Chief Justice Roberts said he was troubled by the provision criminalizing job seeking because he said it went further than federal law in punishing illegal immigrants. Justice Sotomayor also expressed concerns about that part of the law, saying Congress rejected the idea of punishing illegal immigrants who seek work.

The chief justice opened his questioning of Mr. Verrilli by seeking to clarify whether the government was accusing Arizona of racial profiling. Mr. Verrilli said he wasn't making that argument.
