Sorry, completely off topic.
I saw this in a blog post and couldn't resist passing it along. I haven't counted the words myself but have little doubt that the figures are substantially correct.

Pythagoras' theorem – 24 words.
Lord's Prayer – 66 words.
Archimedes' Principle – 67 words.
10 Commandments – 179 words.
Gettysburg address – 286 words.
US Declaration of Independence – 1,300 words.
US Constitution with all 27 Amendments – 7,818 words.
EU regulations on the sale of cabbage – 26,911 words.

And the prosecutor will use his incarceration as leverage otherwise so that the facts and law will not matter.

Corey really is a blight to every lawyer. She deserves to start showing up as an illustration of what not to do ethically.

NK

Obviously Corey will oppose Bond by arguing that GZ is a dishonest and incredible witness, so he fails to overcome the constitutional 'bias' of pretrial detention in a murder 2 charge-- blah, blah, blah. But if Corey has the Chutzpah to argue that GZ is a flight risk because Mrs. Z is now under indictment (i.e. attack GZ on a situation Corey herself created) the good people of Florida should go to Corey's office and drag her out and dump her in the everglades. What a petty tyrant she is.

Sue

I had an interesting conversation about this case this weekend. The persons in the conversation were using headline talking points. If they are any indication of the country at large, and if cboldt and others here are correct, they are going to be in for a rude awakening when the jury doesn't find the adult guilty of killing the child with tea and candy.

boris

... possible perjury (and clear disingenousness) by the wife does not [?] mean George Zimmerman is more likely to flee.

Or so the defense will argue.

Porchlight

That caught my eye too, boris.

Jim

I believe the charges against Mrs Z are an attempt to coerce a guilty plea bargain from Z. Dropping or reducing charges against Mrs Z being part of the package offered.

Clarice

Yes, boris beat me to it, too.

jwest

O’Mara takes no responsibility for not being prepared for the bond hearing, not knowing of the website, not communicating with his client, not preparing his client for the hearing, not asking his client relevant and anticipated questions prior to the hearing, not probing into information readily available to anyone in the public with even a mild interest in the case and generally for not being an attorney worth having.

While he should be organizing vigils at the courthouse for his release, this lawyer is asleep and stuttering.

George, if you read this blog, dump this loser before he asks you to sign a plea deal. Hire someone with brains and balls.

MarkO

I'm on record with basically the same feeling that jwest reflects. O'Mara should throw himself under the bus in the hearing and then resign.

wetmore333

Corey will try to make George serve as a whipping boy for Dershowitz.

O'Mara may have known as much as he wanted to know for the bond hearing.

Prosection rejected the chance to question the person who knew how much was in the fund. Estoppel.

Danube of Thought

I think the sentence that begis with "Unless charged with a capital offense..." is horribly drafted.

Further:

1) He has presented himself to the court / jail / police / others, each time requested.

2) He paid off credit cards, etc., with the funds - why would he do that if he were planning to flee?

3) Why did he call the authorities immediately prior to shooting someone?

4) And, if he was really trying to kill him, why did he fire only once? Tap-tap.

RoR for GZ

NK

BoE-- all logical and persuasive grounds to restore Bond in an amount that accounts for the Dollars GZ has from donations. DENIED. IMO because Judge Lester revoked Bond and remanded GZ to prison, he's pissed about the Bond hearing when he stuck his neck out for GZ, only to find out that Mrs Z lied and GZ dissembled. I think GZ is stuck in pretrial detention.

Extraneus

Damn. We've lost cboldt?

wetmore333

Cboldt? He's busily stamping out fires "over there."

cboldt

I'm here. ;-)

Don't like to be repetitive, that's all.

Thank you for the link within the link, cboldt!

Yes, he's being held for reasons not found in the law, and, we all know that I'm such an expert on those matters...

Concur: Judge Lester is pissed and he's found a thread by which to cling.

Jack is Back

As I have said many times, this goes to trial. Cowards are in charge and the race baiters are the perps.

wetmore333

Wonder what the judge detects, when he puts his ear to the ground? The liberals and media are still in lynch mob modality, but there was that disquieting Rasmussen poll a while back: 40% say innocent, and only 24% guilty. Could public opinion be trending towards Zimmerman? Then there's Dershowitz up there, circling like a hawk.

He's up for reelection in 2014, I believe, and Seminole County residents who happen to be black number less than 9%.

Carol Herman

Obama's new poster will say: OOPS

The Zimmerman case hasn't boosted his ratings, any. Yeah. It's still "bait" for the media. But the INTERNET has snagged the real tidbits the fasted.

In other words? Drudge OWNED the Sandusky verdict. By the time you saw it on the news. Or read about it in the papers. You had heard about it from the INTERNET!

Yes, Zimmerman and his wife are in jail. For PAYPAL violations, no less! While most people who are forced to use PayPal, because they are re-sellers on eBay ... hate it!

As to "judge lester" ... we've got lots of examples that chimps could do a better job ... if all they did was sit up there and toss darts.

cboldt

George is in jail, Shellie is out.

Lester gets another day in the spotlight this Friday. I bet he read Paul over the weekend.

Tom Maguire

One reason for keeping Zimmerman in jail would be that Lester has become convinced that the case against him is much stronger than the presentation we saw at the first bond hearing.

And there was a brief period of time during which Lester was reviewing material for appropriate redactions that We the People had not yet seen (e.g., the Zimmerman statements), so his sense of the case could have been quite different from ours.

But at this point, is there any bombshell evidence still not 'discovered'? I don't think so.

cboldt

I bet most of the evidence Corey releases to day duplicates or corroborates Zimmerman's statements, and that of the eyewitnesses we have already heard and read.

She may issue unredacted police reports, now that she's been shot down on her theory that Zimmerman inconsistencies are confessions of criminal acts, and there may be sketches, photos, and other things that can be combined with the verbal testimony.

Does SPD have anything to hang Zimmerman with? Nope. The chose to not even arrest him. All that Corey has, beyond SPD, is Zimmerman background (funny, she's not curious about Martin's background the same diggin' for dirt way); Sybrina, and DeeDee.

Or, maybe we can resurrect the dueling audio experts, and get proof that Martin was screaming for help.

Lester is no potted palm. More like a venus fly trap, muckling onto the first thing that triggers the trap to shut.

cboldt

Unredacted police reports - check

New George Zimmerman evidence released Tuesday - ClickOrlando.Com

The state attorney's office said new records, including video and audio recordings of Zimmerman were released, but they appear to be the same ones released last week. The evidence also includes written statements from Zimmerman and police, including a police report previously released, but not redacted in some areas as before. The report contains the results of Zimmerman's voice stress test, along with Zimmerman's account of the events and written statements.

If there is to be fireworks this week, they will come Friday morning.

cboldt
George Zimmerman “told substantially the complete truth” when asked about the fatal shooting of Martin, according to the conclusion of a Voice Stress Analysis test conducted after the shooting.

George Zimmerman told truth about Trayvon Martin shooting, documents state - WJLA (ABC) - June 26, 2012

That cinches it. He's such a sociopath, he can fool the stress test and most of the eyewitnesses. Up the charge to 1st degree murder.

Where is the state's case, other than fictional legal standards, conjecture about what happened, and underpants gnome?

cboldt

"No deception indicated"

Stands to reason the state argued to exclude this stress test evidence from sunshine, it might compromise the "presumed innocent" person's right to a fair trial.

Can't have the public exposed to any exculpatory evidence, that makes the prosecutor's jab more difficult.
