Ignatz

--I have never been in a chaotic situation under live fire, so I am only hoping that I would react more appropriately.--

Joseph Ismay would have acted more appropriately.

Captain Hate

More appropriately like not taking a four year old and four month old to a midnight movie? Father of the year imo.

Janet

Hopefully he at least gave his family a thumbs-up sign & hollered 'Good luck!' before he ran. :(

Porchlight

Especially a super violent, dark movie like this one, Cap'n.

There were many young children there. I wish I could say I was surprised, but I'm not.

Agent J

from near Lansing MI..He seemed to be on the wrong page of the "flight" or "fight" book.

As said before sad that the kids were in the theater for many reasons.

peter

I think your last paragraph has a lot of wisdom, Tom.

From the archive:

"“Headlines” at Hot Air has Stephanopoulos going after Bachmann. It is the usual stuff. In the spirit of getting down and dirty I wish they would fire back at these interviewers about statements the interviewers have made in the past.

George Stephanopoulos talks about the presidential transition On February 13th, 2009, Stephanopoulos, during a 58 minute gush-a-thon over newly appointed President Obama and his greatness, declares Obama “owns the economy” as of that date. It is at the 32 min mark.

Shortly thereafter he explains the difference between the “echo chamber” interviews of cable/talk radio, that only appeal to a particular group, and network interviews that are more about the facts.

Posted by: Threadkiller | June 28, 2011 at 03:11 PM"

Does anyone here have the ability to crop out the "Obama owns the economy" section? I would love to see that as part of a series of political ads on ABC.

When I was living in Southern Maryland as a young engineer, I had to drive up to Suitland, near DC, to get some specialized hardware. Can't remember the name of the store but it was a big box kind of place and as I was checking out a gang of young AA's came in and held up the place. While they were at the office trying to figure out the drop safe, the security guys locked the doors. I yelled at them "what the hell are you doing? You're making hostages out of everyone in here". I crouched down behind the checkout counter as the robbers (all armed) came back from the drop-safe empty handed, pointed their guns at the doors and blew them open. They ran outside, grabbed a young girl as she was getting out of her car, grabbed the keys, pushed her down and were getting in when someone in the parking lot used a firearm and began to shoot at them. They shot back and hit some other guy in the scrotum (ouch). They finally got into the car and took off just as the police were arriving. Later they were caught in Anacostia by the DC Police.

But the store got an earful from the customers inside for locking the doors while the gunmen were still inside.

There are 3,033 organized county or county equivalent governments in the United States according to 2007 Census of Governments. Of those, Maricopa County, Arizona comes on as the fourth most populous at 3,817,117 residents.

For the last 19 1/2 years, thru the course of five elections, Joe Arpaio has been the duly elected Sheriff of Maricopa County. prior to being Sheriff, Arpaio spent 25 years with the DEA, eventually becoming the head of the DEA's Arizona branch.

On July 17, 2012 Sheriff Joe Arpaio held a press conference and declared the President's birth certificate, as posted on a federal government website, is without question a forgery.

Today, the forged image remains posted, while Arpaio is treated like a nut.

There is nothing in Arpaio's record to suggest he is anything less than an honorable law enforcement officer yet his investigation is losing out to a man who has nothing in his record at all.

Is anybody else contacting their representatives?

Tangentially related: the new (and first) indoor gun range in my area has pushed back its opening from early July to late August/early September. :( They say it's due to "Some of our range equipment that is on order is in production and will be at least a month." feh.

Drove past the place last week - it could do with some exterior work also, like an actual driveway from the road, and maybe a parking lot, to replace what is now just scrub brush and mud lot.

You can do this.

It's clumsy how it loads, and I don't see an easy way to embed it. I know I've embedded C-Span vids before...

Take a look at the url in the link above. It lists the start and stop time (1941 to 1961). You can adjust those numbers directly in the url to widen or narrow the time frame of the clip.

Hi, all. The head pro at Chimpanzee Oaks Golf Club checking in.

OT, this review in the Journal, is interesting more of what it leaves
out, Mousavian's repeated history of deceit, against the Quartet;

Janet

J. Fred Muggs, I like your bumper sticker selection.

Ignatz

J Fred, regarding your eligibility question the other day, your older cousin doesn't seem to think he's got a problem;

Would you consider running as his Veep if he was drafted for 2012 or 16?

narciso

Mousavian, I've dubbed the Iranian Krasin, after Reilly's adversary in the Cheka who ran afoul of Stalin, an irony noted in the review.

Dublindave

Obviously a crazed gunman is going to spare the kids...this would be my thinking.....and go after the big game.So technically he's not abandoning his family he's ensuring that he'll be able to provide for them for many years to come.

It's not pretty logic but it's sound.

narciso

Since they were running the two previous films last night, one can observe the shooter seems to be following the Joker model, of plainly sowing chaos, no master plan,

Danube of Thought

"It's not pretty logic but it's sound."

It's neither. And of course there's the matter of the big-game wife.

Every asshole who yells "get in the hole!" every time a golfer hits the ball should be escorted from the course immediately.

Ignatz

OK, who's sock puppeting DumbassDave?
Not even he could write something that repugnant, no matter how much Mitt paid him.

Ralph L

I haven't heard yet how they got the killer to stop. Has anyone?

The TV news show I saw last night started in on gun control so I stopped watching. Too many people can't figure out the solution to gun violence, as with disagreeable speech, is more of them/it, not more restrictions. Concealed carry is probably most effective as a deterrent to crime.

derwill

"Obviously a crazed gunman is going to spare the kids . . ."

The logic of the liberal mind. And I bet he has no idea how mindbogglingly stupid that sentence is even on its face. Never mind that this particular crazed gunman didn't, in fact, spare the kids, Dumbdu, dear, there were people hit by bullets who weren't even in the theater with the gunman spraying bullets, but rather next door.

Sue

Does Mexico have gun control laws?

Ignatz

Thanks for that Iowahawk link clarice. Hilarious.
It's certainly in his top three.

Danube of Thought

I love the "obviously." God but this fellow is dumb.

narciso

I've decided not to name the shooter, because recognition was what he wanted, on another front. it seems the confirmation of the Sofia shahid, has yet to be established.

Ignatz

Not sure if that's rhetorical or not Sue but Mexico has some of the strictest gun laws in the world.

narciso

Just as with their immigrations laws, are very strict, enforced by the Mexican army
infact

Sue

Iowahawk!

Sue

Hows that working for them? Only criminals have guns.

narciso

Well just like the Sullivan Laws, it avoids the undue competition, from the mob, which
they appreciated,

Janet

The TV news show I saw last night started in on gun control so I stopped watching.

I've decided not to name the shooter, because recognition was what he wanted,

Same for me Ralph & narciso. I don't even want to see his picture....wish Drudge would take it down. Wish the MFM would just print a list of facts without pictures or long stories.

Oh I completely agree. And that's a relatively new phenomenon. I don't remember it in Palmer's prime. I wonder if it started with Tiger (who can't seem to putt today).

Our very own DuDa might have been one of these chuckleheads:

"Fire officials in California say at least 21 people were treated for burns after attendees of an event for motivational speaker Tony Robbins tried to walk on hot coals. The San Jose Mercury News reports that at least three people went to a hospital and most suffered second- or third-degree burns."

Clarice

Only if somebody was reported to have tried to eat one of the coals.

--"Fire officials in California say at least 21 people were treated for burns after attendees of an event for motivational speaker Tony Robbins tried to walk on hot coals. The San Jose Mercury News reports that at least three people went to a hospital and most suffered second- or third-degree burns."--

I think I could be a pretty good exit poller because the first question I would ask them at the end of the bed of hot coals is "what did you think was going to happen?"

J. Fred Muggs

Mr. Ignatz,

Ben Davis is not my cousin. He is natural born. I was born in The Cameroon. So, he is eligible because he is over 35 years old would certainly be the most intelligent POTUS since Jefferson, no doubt.

Not only that but he can do something even Mr. Obama can't do. He can peel a banana with his feet. [Note I didn't write Mrs. Obama].

Captain Hate

I don't remember it in Palmer's prime. I wonder if it started with Tiger (who can't seem to putt today).

Arnie's Army was boorish enough without that. Speaking of which, a couple friends of mine went to school with one of Arnie's illegitimate children.

I like to blame Tiger for everything negative about golf but I won't pin that one on him since the the jackholes do it for seemingly everybody.

300,000,000 people in the USA. One lunatic goes to the midnight showing of a movie designed to scare the pants off of ya ...

And, you wonder what these theater goers were like?

Oh, yeah. The James "the joker" Holmes ... also made it out to the parking lot. Did he lose his keys? How, exactly, did the cops find him? What was the cops "first clue?"

How come the cops haven't come off as heroes?

Do you know how fast this arrest was?

And, yes. The Internet wins out in the speed in which this story traveled.

Would'a been interesting to know how this creep got caught! Was the parking lot well lit?

Jane - talk is cheap!

My next door neighbor, who is a retired schoolteacher, once a nun and a republican walked on coals recently.

I truly don't understand it.

Jane - talk is cheap!

So I was just on a moonbat website where a moonbat posted:

Some are beginning to speculate that Holmes, a currently unemployed
graduate student, may have been aided/abetted with all the expensive
military/police paraphernalia that was found on him - and in his car?

So I asked him who would most benefit from changing the discussion from the economy to gun control.

RE: narciso's 1:09 link.

I have a lot of respect for McCain and his service. I have had his cellmates at the Hanoi Hilton in my house and they continue to love the guy but sometimes his dead wrong in his appeasement to the PC crowd.

If the good Senator doesn't believe it possible for Islamists sympathizers or apologists or even promoters to reach into the fabric of the Executive branch then how does he explain Major Nidal and his former position in our Army? As the bible in Jeremiah says "there are none so blind as those who will not see" [My translation]. To be so absolute is truly ignorant.

Jack is Back

Jane,

I too have seen similar comments but from the far right - one guy speculated that the Obama-Clinton-Bloomberg nexus own him. This was their way to put pressure on adopting the UN Gun Control plan. Every extreme has its primer cord ends.

Captain Hate

Jane, you've been coming up with some HOF responses to things that are too logically concise to be refuted. I'm still impressed with the way you present things to Dick so that you nudge him into agreeing with you despite his predispositions.

Does Mexico have gun control laws?

Posted by: Sue | July 21, 2012 at 12:49 PM

there one gun store in the entire country

you can buy a permit from the army to buy at most a 38 pistol, has to stay in your house at all times

this is what's keeping the cartel violence from escalating and gun crime down

Dudu, Dana etc would love it here

daddy

A sad point for comparison.

This morning from the Chicago Tribune:

3 dead, 18 wounded in attacks across city

"At least 21 people were shot, three fatally, across the city Friday night and Saturday morning."

Jack is Back

Well, young Adam Scott is sailing through Royal Lytham like its a midwest muni. Tiger is patient - even with all the bogeys he accrued. Snedeker is on a see-saw, the little Dane has been impressive considering the Wood's distraction - not Tiger but the horde of fans he attracts.

Now if the wind blows tomorrow and we get a little rain and chill, this could literally turn the leader board upside down. Guy I felt for today is Dufner. Taking a double on an easy par 5 because the ball moved (a nonsensical rule in golf) was devastating and he never recovered. I think he will tomorrow but not enough.

So, Frederick and I are now going to go out and play 9 holes. He got a new set of Callaway youth clubs and wants to try out his driver, hybrid and sand wedge (all new clubs to him). Back in a couple of hours.

Windansea - snark of the day:)

Sue

I don't know why gun rights advocates aren't making that point about Mexico.

Carol Herman

Why wouldn't the police secure the perimeter?

Wasn't every emergency vehicle called in? Including fire trucks and medics. And, ambulances from all over?

Exactly "how" do you leave the parking lot?

Even with people running every which way ... Doesn't it seem to you that the parking lot was alive with sirens? And, you know the rules! You don't progress into traffic when you hear sirens at full blast.

Plus, the fire department bring lights! You ever saw a late night fire where the building was fully lit? You thought firemen work by touch in the dark?

What if "that's what stopped the joker?"

Remember, he doesn't leave the parking lot!

Could it be the police also put snipers up on the roof of the theater? Wouldn't they be trained to "take over from the chaos," and spell out coherently ... how you stay put?

Anyway, the guy who tossed his 4 month old and ran ... got to the parking lot "first." He was all set to go.

So, too, was the joker.

(So, I thought maybe the joker couldn't find his car keys? While the dude running from his family was already inside his truck. Was he going to blast his horn ... to tell the approaching sirens to move?

When did the people who weren't shot ... get to go home? How about an answer that would include: "Some hours later."

How did the news get out so fast? "Tweets." Over the Internet. With lightening speed.

Doesn't mean the Aurora cops didn't know how to secure the theater complex, once they started arriving in droves.

Who, at the precinct is gonna get credit for making the arrest? Did the joker sit in the back of the police car for awhile?

While you might want to notice how the media lost interest, right away, on the capture of the pervert? No wonder the Internet wins the information wars.

Sue

The mountains are blue...the water is warm. Y'all have a great day.

Over at Althouse it's an EJ Dionne smackdown!

EJ Dionne on NPR said about Gun Control: "And there's also a spillover. If you have permissive laws in one state - as Mayor Bloomberg has shown, Mayor Bloomberg of New York, who has proposed a lot of very practical remedies, not sweeping remedies but practical remedies - he's shown how loose laws in one state can send guns into a state that may have stricter laws."

To which 2 JOMer's respond:

Charlie Martin said...

"How does Dionne explain Chicago? High murder rates despite very tough gun laws and compliant progressive government/polity, all the way up to the state level?"

Oh, that's easy. he doesn't.

Then MayBee chips in:

MayBee said...
Dionne is trying to explain Chicago here:

"And there's also a spillover. If you have permissive laws in one state - as Mayor Bloomberg has shown, Mayor Bloomberg of New York, who has proposed a lot of very practical remedies, not sweeping remedies but practical remedies - he's shown how loose laws in one state can send guns into a state that may have stricter laws. So I don't think we should throw up our hands and say it's impossible..."

He would say: Chicago has so much gun crime because nearby states have lax gun laws.
What that wouldn't explain is why those states don't have the gun crime of Chicago.

I miss MayBee:(

"In the last 60 days he purchased four guns at local metro gun shops, and through the Internet he purchased over 6,000 rounds of ammunition," Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates said Friday night.
?The suspect, 24-year-old former medical student James Holmes, had also been stockpiling magazines to carry the gun ammunition. One clip recovered at the scene could hold 100 rounds for his military-style rifle.

"As far as we know, it was a pretty rapid pace of fire in that theater," said Chief Oates, noting that all the weapons purchases were legal."

Reuters-

I don't pretend to know the solution to this.
I don't think concealed carry is the solution.

I'm reminded of the N. Hollywood shootout in 1997 where 350 cops were called in to deal with two heavily armed, armored assailants.

I think the Dems should go full tilt on the gun control thing. It's a winner.

How'd this Holmes kid pay his rent?

What about his car payments?

Did he get "money from home?"

Will the parents be sued?

When an airplane crashes ... lawyers come out of the woodwork.

Another story I saw on the Net. The chief of police in Aurora ... must have been on the scene EARLY. Because he woke up Jack Kelly. New York's police chief. Who then called his NYC contacts ... and told him the killer had painted his hair red.

Oh. And, the Washington Post reported that within minutes REDDIT had already received information from someone who was in the theater when the shooting started.

The "joker" by the way was wearing "bullet proofing" ... even covering his genitals.

And, since he "greeted" the cops that found him with "I Am The Joker." They even treated his car as if it was booby trapped.

I've been reading some comments today about putting mentally ill people in institutions.

Here are some of the people who take care of people in institutions.

http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2012/07/your-feel-good-seiu-story-o-day.html

"According to police reports[, ...] union employees in at least three of its facilities intentionally mixed up or removed patient name plates, photos, medical bracelets and dietary advisories as they began their strike. Additionally, the police reports include allegations of both vandalism and larceny".

IMO, these union members should be charged with attempted murder.
