Late Breaking News!

This site is a charter member of The Empty Chair Movement and celebrating National Empty Chair Day.
This replaces Labor Day because there are no jobs

Laura

#emptychairday is trending on twitter, and the Romney campaign has picked up on it. Go chairs!

Sara

Posted on Twitter:

and it cracks me up.

henry

Fun, Whiner in Chief empty chair (4th pic).

Sara

As Day One of the DNC dawns in Charlotte, North Carolina, conservatives are are making mischief, having declared Monday "National Empty Chair Day."

I wear the badge of "mischief maker" with pride. LOL

centralcal

Trying so hard to have no "empty seats chairs" here:

College students from across North Carolina will arrive in Charlotte by the busload. Same with members of predominantly black churches in neighboring South Carolina.

Their goal: help fill a 74,000-seat outdoor stadium to capacity when President Obama accepts the Democratic nomination Thursday night.

Anything short of a full house on the final night of the Democratic Party's national convention will be instant fodder for Republicans eager to use empty seats as symbols of waning voter enthusiasm for Obama.

Janet

The empty chair theme really is perfect for Obama.

I put my empty chair out in the front yard. hilarious!

"As Day One of the DNC dawns in Charlotte, North Carolina, conservatives are are making mischief, having declared Monday "National Empty Chair Day."'

Everyone else is declaring it "what not to do a a Poltical convention day".

Sandy Daze

Just mentioned on Fox and Friends at 0859--> "Oh and don't forget, today is National Empty Chair Day !"

Sandy Daze

Jane - should have refreshed . . . nice !

henry

Look at what you did Sandy!

centralcal

Congratulations to Sandy and Jane for really getting the National Empty Chair Day out into new (and old) media!

Well done!

narciso

Meanwhile they might as well replace Brian Kilmeade with an empty chair, because he was repeating the administration mantra, about 'the recovery starting in June 2009'

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

I'm so excited about this. I wish I could figure out how to send my pix to LI. This is not the time to be a technology moron.

Sandy Daze

Hey - it was a "Team JOM" effort. As I wrote in a previous thread, kudos to all and particularly to TM, who provides this space for consideration and collaboration. This JOM community did it ! We did do Empty Chair Day.

(Damn, it feels great, doesn't it? But, we did that yesterday, what have we done for the Future of Our Great Republic today? As Jane has said, we need to get off the couch and save our country !)

As Rick Ballard might say and Glenn Reynolds has said, let's not get cocky. Still nine weeks before the election. There are telephone banks which need to be manned, door-to-door canvasing which needs to be done and radio shows, tea parties and rallies to hold and attend.

We've all got work to do, a LOT of work to do, to bring VICTORY.

Well done to all. BZ!

Jonah Goldberg at The Corner has his chair poster up.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

I can't do it Sandy. I took it with my new Iphone. I managed to get it on my twitter account via an old twitter account, but I can't get it in email. It's a long and horrid story.

narciso

Must have been the Mammoth SUV's or something;

centralcal

Jane - I just stole borrowed a great picture from Twitter and put it on my FB page.

Right click on the picture and "Save as..." to your own computer photo folder. Then you should be able to do just about anything with it - upload to FB, send in email, etc.

Annoying Old Guy

I put out a chair but I used a child sized one because Obama is such a small person.

Sandy Daze

Jane - Hey! It's Windy. You got an iPhone! Get off of Twitter and go to wherever you have the image. I'm not sure what Apple calls it. Then there should be something that says "share this photo". Click on that and it should come up with a list of apps that you can share the photo with. Email should bee one of them.

On another note... This is absolutely ridiculous how big this has gotten.

I'm going to get ready for another long day of work. Text me if you have any questions!

centralcal

This is absolutely ridiculous WONDERFUL how big this has gotten.

FTFY, Sandy ;)

centralcal

oops, so sorry - that would be Windy, not Sandy!

Drudge has swamped Legal Insurrection's Empty Chair Day post with photos from around the country...

Moar chair. Still empty.

MarkO

Wow. What great work. I'm not worthy to post here. I've got a chair, a nice bentwood number that's broken. It seems appropriate.

More mocking.

DebinNC

It's raining here, so mine is a lattice metal patio chair sitting all by its lonesome on a hillside in full sun though large shade trees are nearby.

Repost from last night just to make it official:

Here's the Twitter feed if you want to follow along. Some libs jumping in here and there.

Clarice

I have a chair poster on the front door. It's still rainy and I have to run errands.
Wa Po says Obama smarting from You Didn't Build It fallout but will not address directly the charge that he's hostile to business. Instead they will claim RR is built on a "tripod of lies".

He's not answering the charge cause it's unanswerable. "A tripod of lies"? From a man who's in the WH because he peddled himself entirely as something he is not.

Janet

Perhaps a chair bowing to an Islamic prayer rug would be fitting?

Belle

Way to Go JOM team! National Empty Chair Day....Woot Woot. See what can happen when you "get off the couch". Congratulations. Good Job, etc.

Sorry, photo too big to post. But it's an image of today's Charlotte News & Observer front page with the headline:

As DNC begins, Romney gains in N.C.

New NC poll has him up over Obama 47-43...

DebinNC

“Right now their campaign is built on a tripod of lies,” Plouffe told me [George Stephanopolous] this morning on “This Week.” “A welfare attack that is just absolutely untrue. The suggestion we’re raiding Medicare – absolutely untrue. And then this whole ‘we can’t build it’ nonsense.”

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

See you guys don't realize what you are dealing with. I spent half my morning trying to get my email on my Iphone and it keeps saying I have the wrong password, but I don't. Hopefully I have a nephew stopping by later.

Meanwhile I put it here:

Finally, an honest description;

Their judgment is shared by Mark Zandi, an Obama supporter and the chief economist at Moody’s Analytics. “Too-easy credit and millions of bad loans made during the U.S. housing crisis paved the way for the financial calamity and [the] Great Recession that followed,” he wrote in an Aug. 25 column for the Washington Post.

Gallup:

We have been monitoring the potential impact of the Republican convention on the presidential race on a day-by-day basis. So far, we don’t see an impact. We report a seven-day rolling average of registered voters each day, each of which is based on more than 3,000 interviews. This reporting period is a very purposeful decision on our part -- even if a bit more “sluggish” than if we reported a three- or four-day average. The longer average dampens down short-term changes, and puts more of an emphasis on sustained changes.

The seven-day average has been at 47% Obama, 46% Romney for the last five days. As a matter of fact, both Obama and Romney for the most part have been at or around 46% since we began tracking in April. The latest Gallup average covers Aug. 26-Sept. 1, or Sunday through Saturday. That for the most part covers the GOP convention, albeit with only two days of polling completely after Thursday's climactic events, including Mitt Romney’s speech, and actor Clint Eastwood’s appearance.

I saw that Gallup report, DoT. Let's see how it shakes out over the next couple of days. By their own admission it's too early to tell.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

My neighbors, good conservatives, just said: "What's with the chair". I told them it was National#emptychairday and I would explain later. They were sitting with their liberal buddies.

Porchlight

Meant to add the above to my 10:52 - from RCP:

Ras (Monday) 3 day tracking 1500 LV Romney +4
Gallup (Sunday) 7 day tracking 3000 RV Obama +1

Seems like it is going in Romney's direction.

Jane,

I tried to go to your site via the link you provided but received a virus warning from Kaspersky Internet Security. It's probably a false positive, but you may want to check it out.

DebinNC

Plouffle: "And then this whole ‘we can’t build it’ nonsense.”

So it's not lying to change O's actual words "you didn't build that" to "we can't build it"?

Danube of Thought

Mickey Kaus shreds the "fact check" fad.

PD

From that PJ O'Rourke article linked earlier:

"We’re the richest country on earth—four and a half percent of the world’s people producing more than twenty percent of the world’s wealth."

That's an interesting inversion of Obama's frequent lament that we have two percent of the world's oil reserves but use 20 percent. Even if you accept his claim, it's not like we're just using oil to as little effect as government stimulus programs. We're a productive country, we do something with that oil, including produce goods that we export and that other countries benefit from.)

(As for accepting Obama's claim, why would we?.)

Proof, if any were needed, that Obama last Friday used the Fort Bliss soldiers as reelection props. And the Obama feet on WH desk pic is via the official WH photographer. Apparently, that disrespectful image is one Obama believes helps him with voters.

NJ Jan

Sent a few emails out regarding empty chair day and got responses from friends in Temnessee, Bucks County Pa., Virginia and Comnecticut. They put chairs out and told others.

NJ Jan

That would be TeNNessee and Connecticut.

Marcia in Phoenix

With the gigantic headline on National Empty Chair Day now on Drudge, if you can email to Matt Drudge the hilarious "If I had a son..." chair, Sara, I am betting that he will run it. Hard to top that kind of well-deserved ridicule.
Congratulations to everyone at JOM and LI for the therapeutic tonic!

Frau Leerer Stuhl vor dem Haus

Jane, my husband takes good pictures with his iPad and is able to send them with no problem. I say this and would have no idea how to post a photo of my chair on JOM. Actually, with the spirit of Janet working, I probably could make it work. Our annual neighborhood Labor Day block party--Omnia Vicit Labor-- is next door so I cannot get too in the face of my rabid liberal neighbors. The lone conservative across the street is "closeted" and does not talk politics with his three children. Sheesh!

On our 3-mile walk this morning, we spotted one chair out. Obama-Biden signs now firmly surround the religious left's local retirement commune for clueless clerics

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

What do I do about it? (The blocking?)

caro

I haven't seen Huntsman out campaigning for Mia Love.

Mia's town was hit with really bad storms Saturday night that caused flooding and mud slides. She was there in jeans and t-shirt working hard as 5000 came out to help with sandbags and cleanup.

I was still in my pjs when I put my chair out.

Clarice

On my way to Va on an errand I didn't see any empty chair business I could I.D. as part of today's thing but coming home from a different direction I saw one empty chair that was definitely part of the protest and it was just a block away from home.

Janet

THis is too funny...the caption is "Blame Bush" -

narciso

Now he was speaking with Velshi, who is just one step above Soledad, of course, he wouldn't help Mia Love, that would wreck the template.

hit and run

(I thought there would be more JOMers posting pics of their own empty chairs)

Barbara

At first, I put the empty chair on the front porch. Then I thought, naw, that looks too normal.

So, now it is sitting - all alone and empty - on the front lawn. I love it! No sign of other chairs out in the neighborhood - yet. I feel like such a rebel :)

caro

Lucianne has Clarice's Pieces as a must read today! Yeah.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

My chair says "Your fired". My neighbor said she thought when she first saw it, a client had come and placed it on my lawn.

Perhaps I should rethink the sign!

Clarice

Oh, thanks, caro. I hadn't seen that.

Mark Folkestad

Jane, I just tried your site from my bookmark list, not your link, and Trend Titanium anti-virus blocked it too.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

Actually it says: YOU'RE fired. Sheesh!

scott

This whole thing smells like a Koch Bros cabal to sell more resin chairs. :)

Nice job, JOMers!

WSJ, top of the home page:

Conservative media outlets are driving a Twitter campaign to dub Monday, both Labor Day and the first (albeit unofficial) day of the Democratic National Convention, as “empty chair day.” In a play on Clint Eastwood‘s RNC speech to an empty chair, intended to represent an absent President Barack Obama, Republican supporters are attacking Obama’s record under the hashtag #emptychairday. By Monday morning, the hashtag was trending on Twitter in the U.S.
fools errand

"Gallup is out with a post-convention poll asking people whether last week's festivities in Tampa have made them more likely or less likely to vote for Mitt Romney. Answer: 40% are more likely, 38% are less likely. This is a net bounce of 2 percentage points, the lowest since Gallup started tracking this question a quarter of a century ago."

Maybe if something important had been said....besides inane comments to a chair, that is. lol

(A) nuther Bub

Dawn is just now breaking in Hawaii and my chair is ready to go out. We're at the top of a steep hill and don't really have a front yard so the chair -- along with the NoBama sign liberated from our garage wall -- will sit on our brick landing at the foot of our exterior stairs. Lordy, lordy, this is fun! All signage is forbidden in our neighborhood so I may get busted, which makes it even more exciting.

Clarice

Jane, I think you have to contact your host carrier and tell them what's going on, but what do I know?
