JiB-

Red on Red? I could see it.

matt

Maybe we should hold an "Empty Chair Day". Everyone puts an empty chair outside the front door.

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

Jane, I think O was watching--how else could he have tweeted Clint right after his performance?

He lies Sailor, that was the point. JMH captured the visual perfectly.

Matt - that has to go viral. Pick a date.

pagar

From Jib"s 06:15 PM link.

"The most enthusiastic applause came when he lauded the soldiers’ military mission, and promised continued support for that professional task."

Continued????? Support????

Is this a joke?

Chas

"Everyone puts an empty chair outside the front door."

In Obama's Chicago, that's called saving the parking spot you just dug out from the snow.

Rick Ballard

DoT,

Rasmussen doesn't push respondents to the generic Congressional question. He has it at 42/42, leaving 16% undecided, no response, rather than the 10% in that category wrt the Presidential tracking question. If the Ras ID split holds, it will push Romney to 54-55% and the Congressional vote will follow. It would net 35-50 seats at that level. It would be much higher but for the 63 seats grabbed in 2010.

Chas

"In Obama's Chicago, that's called saving the parking spot you just dug out from the snow."

aka Obama family reunion...

Voldemort must be destroyed. Sandy

Matt - that has to go viral. Pick a date.

Why pick "a" date, just do it every day for the next, what, 66 days. . . My chair will stay right where it is, unless it is stolen or blown away in a storm. If so, I'll just put up another chair. . .

daddy

"like something you would see on black and white TV".

Suggested retort:

You mean Mister President, like back when Joe Biden used to watch FDR do his Fireside Radio Chats on TV? Is that what you mean?

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

Well I live in a condo for one thing. I do that every day I'll get in condo trouble.

Secondly it would be quite fun to see it happen all over the place.

And thirdly - well I'm not sure there is a thirdly.

Chas

"F Chuck acting like a real reporter:"

The reason is governors need to appeal to the entire state while mayors and reps just need to have the right skin color or union affiliation.

Janet

Secondly it would be quite fun to see it happen all over the place.

I sent Sandy & matt's idea to Instapundit.

Janet

One big day & then others keep their chairs out. It's ALL good!!!!

daddy

Happy Birthday's to the JiB bunch.

Jack,

Your Athens subway system was top notch. Exceptionally clean in comparison to most of the world. My car ran very smooth, and the trains were prompt and also very clean. I can certainly understand having more archeologists on hand during the digging than worker bees.

Jack is Back

I have an empty chair outside our front door on the potico. Iwas thinking about putting one of those old Hope and Ghange posters on it.

Thomas Collins

Re bounces: Keep in mind that the Ras poll doesn't yet reflect Thursday. I don't know about Gallup.

Re the sand sculpture: I think the sand sculpture is less effective in promoting His Oneness than an empty beach chair would have been. At least the empty beach chair would have appealed to persuadables with a sense of humor.

Captain Hate

persuadables with a sense of humor.

Do we know that these "persuadables" really exist or are they a big snipe hunt like the blue-dog democrats who will vote conservative in a pinch or a donk who cares about keeping abortions "rare"?

Thomas Collins

They may be few in number, CH. But I'm hoping that in certain states, especially Ohio, they decide to send the empty suit occupying the WH chair back to Ayresville.

Janet

Jane, I put "empty chair day" in the subject line & sent Sandy's picture & matt's idea.

How bout Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3rd. The sooner the better! We built it!!

Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it. You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

Porchlight

If that many people have switched from Dem to Rep, or - more importantly - haven't switched at all, but are simply going to vote for the other guy - then the turnout models are going to be way, way off.

I continue to believe that true tsunamis are very hard to poll for this reason. See 1980. Reagan Dems didn't necessarily ID as Republicans - they just voted for the other party's candidate. Using turnout splits from earlier elections will make it very difficult to pick this up.

daddy

Well this is interesting. The EPA has decided to rule in favor of Shell by changing the mandated pollution limits it was demanding that some Shell onboard ship generators put out. EPA OKs air quality permit for Shell drilling in Arctic Ocean

"The EPA now has agreed to allow the drill ship to go ahead and operate in Arctic waters while the agency decides how to handle Shell's request for a revised permit."

"Shell praised the decision Friday as a reasonable accommodation that will let it get to work while still limiting its emissions."

"The company said its exploratory drilling could begin within days."

This has been a paperwork goat-rope start to finish. I have to think this latest approval is tied in to the President desperately wanting to look as if he is doing something, instead of continually killing jobs and domestic energy exploration.

Melinda Romanoff

Daddy-

Yep. Only thing is, that permit's got a string on it.

Extraneus

Please let us know if they actually start drilling, daddy. I'll expect a Charlie Brown field-goal attempt in the meantime.

daddy

I'll try Ext.

The season is so limited timewise now by the Fed's that I think Shell only has a week or 2 at most to do any drilling at all, which is pretty much what all this effort is about. Stall, delay, approve a bit when it's convenient, then deny all over again.

Janet

They should go rogue & just start drilling. Those tiny dirty abortion clinics don't seem to obey the laws passed about their death profession. They just ignore the laws & keep killing babies.
The oil companies should all decide they will quit obeying the law....
They can be like the illegal aliens of energy production. There are laws, but nobody cares what they are anymore. Viva la revolucion!!

Rick Ballard

Porchlight,

The ranges on the independent split run from 55/45 in 2006 to 64/36 in 2010. The split was 60/40 in 2004 and 2008. The actual 'other' vote was 4% in the last four elections. If I pull the 4% all from the independent category, a 60/40 split yields a 53/43/4 result. A 64/36 independent split yields a 54/42/4 result.

The direction of the August move is as important as the size. The party showing the larger increase prevailed in '04, '06, '08 and '10.

Jack is Back

daddy,

Election year ruling. If JEF wins they will rescind it. Plus they waited until the ruling would mean nothing anyway due to the change of weather.

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

Labor Day it is. Now we need a great tweet. Where is BGAtes?

Jack is Back

What the hell is this latest trend of playing big games like Bama v. Michigan in neutral venues like Cowboy Stadium?

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

#emptychairday. On Monday show the world Clint Eastwood was right.

Janet

Wonderful, Jane!!!

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

If you have a twitter account - get in there. Put it on facebook.

Frau Geburtstagskind

"Viva la revolucion!!"

Janet, are you saying damn the torpedoes-drill, baby, drill and frack, baby, frack?

Janet

Does that tag exist? I'll put it out in my little Facebook world...

Jack is Back

Jane,

Great idea. I'm in.

Suggest we all take a picture of our chair and post it. Even better if you take your chair someplace like the State Employment Office or a Hospital or your Doctor's office or even by a pot hole on the street.

Post your photos here.

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

I just posted about 10 #emptychairday posts. It will take a lot more than me to get it to trend.

WE Can do this!

Janet

Jane -

I just tweeted #emptychairday to Paul Ryan.

Janet

I put Sandy's picture & this up on Facebook -

This Monday, September 3rd - #emptychairday. On Monday show the world Clint Eastwood was right.

You betcha, Frau!

I think I belong in the 6th grade.

Sara

Retweeted, Jane. Thrice!

JM Hanes

Calendar Note:

Please join us at 9:00 PM, on the Eve of Emptychairday, when we will officially bid a fond farewell to the Empty Suit Metaphor, and thank him for his most recent service to the nation. He will never be rendered entirely redundant, of course, and we are happy to report that he will remain available for non-presidential use as needed.

Earlier today, the popular figure of speech, dressed in custom-tailored, bias cut, metrosexual silk, was asked about his abrupt departure from the White House stage. "Oh," he laughed, "I knew right away that an empty suit sitting on an empty chair would be de trop, and I'm relieved, frankly. Language in politics has become so thoroughly debased! Why hang around when folks can throw anything snipped from whole cloth into the metaphorical mix? By next week, I'd be a buttoned-down stuffed shirt, in an empty suit, with a hole in my pocket, and I can't do that to myself."

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

Now put that in 140 characters JMH!

Janet

Okay it is up on the We are all Andrew Breitbart group site too.

Jack is Back

Jane,

#emptychair is a mixed bag at Twitter. You sure that is where you want to start?

narciso

You would pick that episode for a reason, wouldn't you Ig, in the LUN

narciso

As I understand it daddy, they are allowed to drill as long as it's not deep enough to reach
an oil pocket,

Janet

I sent #emptychairday to Instapundit too.

Bruce

I do find Obama's claim that he didn't watch the Republican convention credible. That is why you have people working for you, so that you can spend your time on more important stuff (in his case, maybe golf?). I wouldn't expect that Mitt Romney will watch all that much of the Democrat's convention.

But, I think that the tweat about the chair already being occupied was a mistake. It happened too quickly, and I think that they would have done better by just ignoring it. And, I think that someone more likely than not had run it by Obama first (wouldn't that be legally required of a campaign Tweat in his name?) (I am also assuming here that he really doesn't do the tweating, but again has people for that).

Sara

Some great pics from Romney's Florida rally TODAY

Anyone have a link comparing the Romney and Obama rallies in Iowa and Ohio earlier today?

Clarice

Cleveland Leader:

arack Obama became the first U.S. president to skip out on the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball since its inception in 1953. The event recognizes recipients of the military's highest award - the Medal of Honor - and as The Cleveland Leader previously reported, over the past 56 years and 14 inaugurations, no President has failed to appear at this event until now. Following the breaking of this news, there have been some misconceptions and erroneous information floating around. The American Legion, one of the main sponsors of the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball, issued a statement making it clear once and for all that Barack Obama did not in fact attend the event.

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

I dunno, if I was the recipient I'd be glad. But he is an ugly rude man.

Jane - we are not above it, we are it.

This tweeting thing is exhausting. How do people do it all day long. Sara you get the overnite shift.

narciso

Miniter's book, btw, has some more interesting elements than just the Jarrett
veto on Abbotabad, he outlines his aggressive
anti settlements push by Obama, which he credits in part to fmr. Hamilton staffers,
McDonough, Rhodes, Rudman, et al, and the influence of a real leftwinger Wolf, who was IDS, before there was such a term.

Sara

This tweeting thing is exhausting. How do people do it all day long. Sara you get the overnite shift.

When my computer blew up this past Spring, I lost my Tweet program and quite tweeting or following Twitter. I just reinstalled a couple of weeks ago and discovered my Twitter account had been usurped. Had a real mess. So, I'm just now starting again.

I really need to have the JOMers on Twitter either follow me @Pal2Pal or we need a JOM list of Twitter handles so we can find each other.

Gus

Someone needs to post a picture of a white empty lawn chair with PRESIDENT written on the back.

Janet

I made a wordle for poor Mr. Sherman from TM's Calorie Restriction thread -

Frau Geburtstagskind

Bless your heart, Chas. Actually, we are really interested in stcaf.

Sara

Go Joe!

narciso

There's a reason why I dubbed the Bill, Sutton Dillinger, Cassani who ran the CDO division at AIG, earmarked contributions to
make sure that Dodd, would become chair of Senate Banking, similarly with Frank, and Fannie Mae, whoever thought they would actually consider tackling the causes of the crisis.

almost-veritas

I'm back.

Frau Geburtstagskind

Ooooohhhhhh--multiple personalities, separated from Cleo and Sybil at birth.

Most of the chairs are empty at Pisher College.

Gus

this Veritas Pizter wannabee if a fucking clown.
Libtards like this current clown know all about lying. That is what they do.
It's comical how precisely this type of moron projects his own flaws on someone he cannot abide.
Paul Ryan is decent.
Barack Obama is douchebag.
Unless you are a libtard flunkie, it is obvious.
But our new friend Pizter-Veritas, cannot abide a moral man, who stands in the way of the COMMIE BIG EARED CLOWN

Obama is toast.

Sara

LOL. Sometimes it is worth tuning into CNN. Discussion on Eastwood's empty chair. Democrats are suffering from "empty chair envy syndrome." Better to have an empty chair than an empty brain, a la Biden.

Gus

Yes Douchebag. It's a rope a dope, and you're the dope. Run along, both your mama's are callin' you.

JM Hanes

At last, the pundits have now begun to hold forth on what Obama needs to do! It's amusing to hear the Economist, offering up the kind of wishful thinking framed as advice that you can usually count on David Brooks to supply. If Obama could just emerge from a fundraiser sounding like Susana Martinez, he could walk away with the election.

narciso

Could be their Journolister from the last campaign, Ryan Avent, that the Daily Caller uncovered. Bagehot in retrospect, seeing what
has happened to his publication, would call the whole thing off.

Neo

Old Lurker:
I don't know how that library got in trouble.
It seems that most, if not all, of the major publishers don't sell e-books to libraries.
You really have to wonder who the DOJ is protecting.

narciso

Now I maybe inferring too much, because what is the real difference between the run of the mill reporter and the Journolist;

http://www.futureofcapitalism.com/2010/07/the-economists-ryan-avent-on-journo-list

Porchlight

Our library has thousands of ebooks, purchased chiefly through two large vendors, and there are hundreds of libraries like us all over the country. I don't get it.

Eric in Boise

I'm back.

You're losing.

Gus

Did any of you see that George SnuffaluffaGUS, has pontificated from on SHORT, that there is no media bias?

The problem we have in our country right now, is that the LEFT is way way way way off it's rocker. Obama, will be the death of the Democrat Party. All of the cockroaches have felt unihibited, and have danced in the light of day. And "WE" are the Orkin man.

Eric in Boise

"You're losting."

Nice try.

Eric in Boise

"You're losting."

What's losting.

Ignatz

Ummm, rope a dope worked because Foreman wore himself out on Ali's impenetrable defense.

One doesn't get worn out mocking empty chairs or Mr. Sandman, and the onion skinned Barry's defenses are about as impenetrable as Sandra Fluke with a pocket full of taxpayer supplied pills and prophylactics.

Gus

Look!!! 2 Eric's. Both in Boise!!

What are the odds??

JM Hanes

They're just everywhere you turn, aren't they?

narciso

It's the mixed fruit defense strategy, from Python complete with falling anvil.

Gus

Hi Ignatz. I think what the LIBTROLL is trying to say, and do is: Pretend that he is distracting US from our purpose, thereby gaining in some way. It's infantile. It's 4th grade stuff.
And for an adult, it is probably a pathological psychosis. Libs NEVER acknowledge a loss. Libtards NEVER accept a drubbing. They are like your 4th grade rival. You have the throw-down, you kiss his ass, and has he runs 50 yards away, and headed for him Mommy, HE CLAIMS VICTORY.

Gus

Sorry Ignatz, that should have been KICK his ASS!!!

Hahahahahahahahaahahhaaha!!!

narciso

Now the fact that we live in a tropical climate, pshaw

Cleaning cyber house here, and found this little orphaned phrase on my desktop. I can't remember what article it came from, but it struck me as very funny/sad:

"A lot of shops have closed the last two years due to the recovery...."

Gus

Look Veritard is being ROPE-A-DOPED.

Libtards are easy.

Why?

Because they are mentally ill.

Sara

Things Obama said:

“It was something to behold,” Obama said sarcastically about the Republican convention in Tampa. “Despite all the challenges we face . . . what they offered over those three days was more often than not an agenda better suited for the last century. It was a rerun. We’d seen it before. We might as well have watched it on a black-and-white TV.”

Even his surrogate convention watchers are lying to him.

Manuel Transmission

For anyone who knows Richard Bach, he piled up his little amphib homebuild yesterday just west of our airport. He was going into a friend's grass strip and hit powerlines along the road in front of the strip. He's in pretty rough shape with a punctured lung and head injuries.

Mark Folkestad

Man Tran, I thought of you when I heard about Bach's crash. Thanks for the clarification on the proximity to your place.
