Agent J

Happy Birthday to everyone in Sept.

Captain Hate

I'm ready for a thread aimed at trashing those Firefox turds.

henry

My Firefox is stable -- but I cancelled the Java update. Perhaps Mel was correct in blaming Larry.

Rick Ballard

"crankier and less stable than a Dem strategist looking at Obama's polls"

They're not cranky. They just look at the PPP/MFM/Uni D+8 universe and hope nothing has changed since 2008. Just because we don't see any unicorns farting rainbows doesn't mean they don't exist in Barryworld.

Old Lurker

It finally occurred to me what was in the movie 2016 that kept nagging at me.

The "anti-colonialism" they kept talking about they defined as "they stole our resources, shipped them home, made products with them, then sold those products back to us a exorbitant prices."

That tracks perfectly with Obama's notion that "overhead" and "profits" are somehow not fairly included in prices.

It even tracks well with the US Reparations theory whereby this country was built on the backs of slaves therefore they should own what they built.

Both theories exclude any notion that the boss was adding any value at all risking his capital and his time, and his organizational skills, and his vision, and his own sweat.

So it is hopeless to have a conversation with folks so misguided.

Danube of Thought

My joy knows no bounds:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — You think incumbent politicians are hard to get rid of? Try bedbugs.

The blood-sucking insects have made a resurgence in recent years, including reports of them at nine of the hotels being used for Democrats’ nominating convention this week in Charlotte.

Some convention-goers were fearful in the run-up to the convention, and state officials and exterminators said bedbug reports have been on the uptick in and around the Queen City.

dublindave

As a prominent member of the left-wing intelligentsia I suppose it's incumbent upon me to welcome all you righties to Democratic National Convention.

Reminds me of the quote below someone posted here the other day about Larry Ellison and Steve Jobs;

But he's never been motivated by money. Once we were hiking, and Steve looked at me, put his right hand on my left shoulder and his left hand on my right shoulder, and said, "Larry, that's why it's really important that I'm your friend. See, you don't need any more money."

The only thing that quote made me think about was that since Jobs is dead Larry probably hasn't got a friend in the world.

daddy sit on your arse and post comments at Lefty News sites!

"Palinization of Ryan by the left is also taking hold."

Jane,

They are trying like hell but Ryan is fighting back hard. Here is Matt Lauer on Today trying to corner Paul Ryan unsuccessfully.

Can I politely suggest that if you have a few spare minutes, that you go to the comments sections of my link and give a thumbs up for the folks fighting against the lefty meme of "Paul Ryan liar."

The Left commenters are unable to refute Ryan's comments in argument so they are simply resorting to "Paul Ryan Liar" and trying to spread that ad hominem meme, precisely as they did Sarah. I've been trying to give plenty of thumbs up to good commenters lately in order to try to beat down the Soros funded Ellie Light's which I know are out there.

It's the easiest necessary thing we can do in our spare moments to contribute to winning the fight.

Byron York highlights the mocking. Take a bow, JOM you deserve it:

And it's not just attacks on Obama's job performance. It's ridicule, too. In 2008, it would have been simply impossible to imagine Obama mocked during a National Empty Chair Day, as happened Monday, building on the improvised standup routine delivered by Clint Eastwood at the Republican convention. But that's what the president is facing now.

Running in a primary, even a tough primary, is different from a general election. In a primary, a candidate speaks to party regulars who pretty much agree on principles but are looking for the best messenger for the party. In a general election, there's a clash of fundamental ideas, argued before the public at large.

In 2008, McCain was so lackluster, and conditions so bad for Republicans, that Obama wasn't really challenged. Now, he is.

In the next two months, Obama can count on being attacked, questioned, and -- perhaps worst of all -- made the butt of jokes. Of course he's taken his share of criticism in the White House, but he's never experienced that going down the stretch in a general election. He'll have to learn to deal with it -- or lose.

The rabbit eared candidate is going to explode in rage at some point, so keep it up.

narciso & Clarice-When I was in Panhandle over weekend my politically active neighbor said that they are still very concerned that the South Florida Hispanic and Jewish vote was still solidly Obama's making Florida still much in doubt.

Neighbor also talked about the perils of motivating people to work for the Rep US Senate candidate. Everyone knows the seat is a Must Win but apparently no one who knows the candidate personally or has met him likes him much.

And that the advert campaign there will be about trying to misrepresent Ryan. Interesting discussion.

Both theories exclude any notion that the boss was adding any value at all risking his capital and his time, and his organizational skills, and his vision, and his own sweat.

This is a feature, not a bug, with Marxism. The size of the pie is a constant to Marxists, no matter what value is added. That's why they view all economics as a zero sum game, i.e. if I have a larger slice of the pie than you, it's not because I have increased the size of the overall pie and reclaimed a portion of my input. It's because I ripped off poor brown people who never had a chance.

U.S. manufacturing shrank at its sharpest clip in more than three years in August while U.S. construction spending in July fell by the most in a year, new reports showed on Tuesday.

Both reliable indicators of a contraction in the economy. Buckle in for the completely unexpected double dip nobody - NOBODY - could have predicted. Unexpected! Unprecedented! Unemployed!

Matt Lauer? Tough Interview???

Surely you must be joking!!

Matt Lauer has the intellectual heft of a schnauzer (no offense to schnauzers). The people behind his teleprompter must have been feeding him scoobie snacks as he attempted to navigate big words such as recommendations and re-tooling.

He really should stick with interviewing people such as Michael Phelps and McKayla Maroney. I know she was not impressed.

rse,

Today at our school board meeting I was talking to one of our members who is a GOP County Committee Woman. She used to be a State and National person but doesn't like the travel that much now that she is widowed. I asked her what she is hearing and she was surprisingly more pessimistic than me about both the Senate and the Presidential. What i think is happening is that we have an older electorate here in Florida and they are not tuned in like we are at JOM. They only hear and read what is on the MSM.

I do know that Connie Mack is struggling a little bit in getting more local organizing going in the smaller areas/counties like the panhandle and where I am. Nelson has a big problem though with the space program shut down. Mack is always going to win the west coast vote, also Jacksonville and the Panhandle military towns. Miami is the sweet spot and the enthusiasm gap is wider than Biscayne Bay so that may be the difference maker.

Plus I believe RR have coat-tails especially with the Tea Party type candidates.

Now to make everyone want to vomit: Grayson is in play to win again.

How can Grayson, or for that matter, any pro-Israel Jew countenance this administration's horrible record vis a vis Israel?

Melinda Romanoff

matt-

You have mail.

Rick Ballard

"Plus I believe RR have coat-tails especially with the Tea Party type candidates."

JiB,

They may have coattails but we surely have to give the President a lot of credit for making the Democrat Party a much more manageable opponent. In August 2008, Gallup had the Democrats at 53% in party affiliation while today they have them at at 44%. That's a 21% reduction and it didn't "just happen". Barry really did build a much more manageable and maneuverable Democrat Party. Nan and Harry helped, of course, but Barry truly deserves the hyena's share of the credit.

I was hoping that the economy could continue to bump along the bottom until the election, and the downfall of Obamanomics in Nov would cause a sharp economic upturn; alas the $4.00 gas will cause a recession first. Thanks Bam and Ben.

To be fair, that was a huge issue in our own anti-colonial revolution, which crystalized in the Non-consumption and Non-importation movement of the 1760s:

Patriotic colonists are expected to purchase goods made in America. Homespun clothing becomes a badge of patriotism and spinning and weaving parties become politically charged social engagements for daughters of liberty.
Indeed, it was the post-revolution development of textile manufacturing in New England which began the bifurcation between the industrial North and the agricultural South.

Laura Ingraham made a good point regarding Kathleen Parker's witless article. Romney isn't a Tea Partier that would send Kathleen waddling toward the fainting couch and the bonbon store. Rather he's quite the moderate that she claims to be pining for whenever the mention of Sarah Palin makes her frantic for the future of "her" party. Maybe Kathleen just likes to complain about Republicans 24/7.

Danube of Thought

The empty chairs strike again:

Charlotte, North Carolina - Democrats are poised to avoid the danger of President Barack Obama accepting his party’s nomination before a partially-empty stadium by shifting his speech to an indoor arena and citing ‘severe weather’. The Obama campaign have been working desperately to ensure that the 74,000-seater Bank of America stadium in Charlotte would be filled. Buses for students from across North Carolina and even members of black churches in neighboring South Carolina have been arranged. Images of rows of empty seats at the stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers, as Obama speaks on Thursday night would be politically disastrous....
rse

Clarice-I thought I remembered your getting on the ground intel from a relative on the extent to which the retired Jewish community in S Fla is aware of issues like what Matt pointed out.

On OL's anti-imperialism, I have been shocked by just how explicit and determined the US is a racist country is. The whole push to interject Critical Race Theory into all students regular K-12 experience. The idea that only the essence of Communism will be sufficient to end the taint of racism. Federally enforced equal outcomes by an all-intrusive state doesn't strike me as equitable.

On the reparations, Gloria Ladson-Billings, its chief proponent, was the cited authority on why race consciousness and CRT needs to be taught directly.

Today's post in the LUN goes over the claim that knowing each student "culturally" is as important as content knowledge. How on earth does that not make your skin color or ethnicity your defining characteristic in the classroom?

Danube of Thought

You can just feel the excitement:

This morning, the Obama Store 2012 sent out an email just in time for the Democratic National Convention: all gear is 25% off on all purchases more than $10 or more! Is this just a last-minute attempt to reap dollars off of those too stingy to buy Obama gear at full price? Or is this the sign of a campaign desperate to rake in the cash before they go completely out of business?

The Obama campaign spent more money than it took in during July. And their pleading campaign emails are now showing up in followers' inboxes multiple times daily.

Voldemort WILL BE defeated ! Sandy Daze

On OL's anti-imperialism, I have been shocked by just how explicit and determined the US is a racist country is.

For the left, this is axiomatic. It is assumed true, and requires no evidence or proof.

Keep in mind, also, that their definition of "racism" has nothing to do with what you or I would call "racism", but is rather born of Marxism and the grievance industry.

If ValJar et al threatened the Clintons, as some suspect, this speech would be where Billy Jeff gets his just desserts. If Chelsea and her husband are with her mother, I'd say odds are more than likely that it's "on".

rare disagreement MelR-- Billy C always does what's best for BillyC, I don't see him wandering off the Dem reservation in his speech, it doesn't help Billy to do that. I don't think he'll try to help Bam, but I think it will be a tepid endorsement speech.

Captain Hate

No, Slick's speech hasn't been vetted since he's notorious for making changes to them right up until the point of delivery. It's because he's so disorganized and impulsive (the latter like predators) in everything he does. It's also why his speeches are all overly long and not at all memorable.

Expecting Slick to deep six the JEF is a fool's wager. If it happens, it's only because he's more out of touch with reality than ever.

I wonder how Dems are arranging to pay those who attend the wake at BofA Stadium? I would think it would have to be upon exit and in cash but the crowd control would seem a bit problematic. I suppose they could pay off on the buses but they might have a robbery problem should they choose to do so.

What do you think they'll pay? $40? $100?

Soylent Red

If nothing else he loves to be the focal point of a garish spectacle lacking even the slightest hint of good taste

We're going to need a smaller Luitpoldarena.

Porchlight

So if the move to a smaller arena (seating 20K) from BofA Stadium (seating 74K) is only due to weather, as Dems claim, and not due to an inability to fill the stadium, then there must be 54,000 people who have tickets who now won't be able to attend.

Right?

So reporters are going to ask Dem spokespeople about that, right?

What's the messaging to conventiongoers - first come first in? How are they going to manage the logistics of all the buses headed in from all over the area? How will the people managing those buses know whether their riders will be able to attend or not? What's going to happen to all the hotel rooms in Charlotte if all those people who were coming in on Thursday for the President's acceptance speech are now possibly going to cancel?

I'm sure all of this will be covered extensively in the media, as the Dems wouldn't want legions of Obama fans to travel all that way for nothing, right?

Captain Hate

The caveat of the whole thing is that Slick has never been a positive for anybody but himself (except for Muffer in her Senate race in 2000 which was a very unique race). In fact after his 2 terms his party had control of neither the executive branch nor legislative (the same could be said about GWB and Rove; but that's a topic for a different day). So even when he's ostensibly trying to help, he really doesn't. His "endearing" habit of being late for things is rightfully viewed as being insulting when employed on somebody else's behalf.

"From the Department of "Good Luck With That"- EU opens antitrust proceedings against Russian gas giant Gazprom."

It's an encouraging development, nonetheless. You may recall Gerhard Schroder's seamless transition from German government to Putin oligarchy

Only weeks after brokering, as Chancellor, a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin for a gas pipeline linking the two countries, Schröder earlier this month stepped into the role of project chairman. Set to start piping gas into Europe in 2010, the $5-billion North European Gas Pipeline is controlled by Gazprom, Russia's state-run natural gas supplier.

In addition to securing the northern on/off power switch, Putin is determined to be sole proprietor of southern route. He has been putting a relentless squeeze on current and future regional competitors in both oil and gas transmissions, and has flexed his muscle by manipulating flows and pricing to reward & punish cooperative and recalcitrant Euro clients on more than one occasion, I believe. Whether successful or not, one can only hope the antitrust move represents a deeper commitment to derailing Putin's vision of a Europe held hostage to his neo-Soviet ambitions. While the Black Sea "pipeline chess" has garnered substantial attention, escalating militarization in the Caspian basin has potentially explosive implications.

Found it.

Seems the last day for the Dems in 08, when the JEF gave his greek column speech was the same as McCain's last day - 38 million. Strange. I would have thought it much higher due to the so called "enthusiasm cascade" for the JEF. Can't trust what the MSM is selling, can you?

What I don't understand is why a drop of 8 million for the RNC convention coverage. Certainly, I, at least, am felling much more enthused about RR than McCain in 08. If it wasn't for Palin I would have probably been even less enthused.

Maybe due to our leader's performance the last 4 years we have become a nation of "empty chairs"?

Great job, Jane. I had also sent it to Drudge and Breitbart, but figured it would fall into a wormhole.

I think where it got traction was at Legal Insurrection and a couple of the other sites, and then it snowballed.

It is a very interesting case study in new media and how it can catch old media short. We need to keep it up now. Adapt, innovate, and overcome, as Clint would say.

JiB:

I have little doubt that huge numbers of people made the switch to C-Span this time around, and those numbers are not included in the viewer totals reported by the press (if C-Span even calculates them). With the limited coverage and constant cutaways to pundit panels, I suspect a statistically significant number of people opted for online coverage too, some of it certainly ex post facto. I doubt that the networks include those viewers in their own figures, either.
