What the heck is John King saying on CNN? Close your eyes and picture Mitt president? Why close your eyes? Mitt looks, speaks, and comports himself like a president. No need to close our freaking eyes! John King should get lost.

From Madeline Kahn as Eunice to Ryan O'Neal as Howard Bannister, " Now don't be nervous, Howard, just remember everything depends on this." What's Up Doc, 1972 (I think). Go Mitt!

Between the Giants game and the debate, I'm a nervous wreck. Will be watching the game and following the debate on JOM. Thanks ahead of time, guys.

Close your eyes and try to picture Barack Obama as president.
I'll be watching the Bears game. The DVR will record the Fox News post mortem, but not the debate. My beloved will watch the debate in another room and tell me what she thinks.
Posted by: Danube of Thought on Ipad | October 22, 2012 at 08:32 PM
I think Obama has a lot more at stake in this debate than Mitt.

My Flemish Fricandeau (Meatloaf) recipe on the previous thread for those interested. Probably more important to world peace than anything Obama will say tonight.
daddy, hide-hide-ho. Where the hell are you tonight? Corrds only - lets see how many potential navigators we have here:)

While you're waiting you might enjoy this peppy, parody rendition of Hit the Road, Jack written and sung by Karen J. Romine. I just put it to video. It will be my final Obama video (I've said that before) and it's nice to go out on a happy note.

Hi Jane,
Have just arrived in Cologne! Hi Frau (many Kolsch under the belt in the last 2 hours).
CNN is obscene. Bill Clinton is now being interviewed on CNN by Fareed.
Clinton is pushing the part of the Simpson/Bowles act that does not go into effect for a year, meaning he can be for anything. He can then say he was for this back then or was not for this back then. Hell, I can say that.
Farred: "Are you an Obama Democrat or a different kind of Democrat?"
Bill Clinton: "The economy has just not been fair to him on how he has been pushing Wind Power etc, so he has blamed unfairly."
Me: STF you useless POS Bill Clinton.
Anderson Cooper to Fareed: "He (Clinton) looks great!"
Me: I have to agree at least as far as saying the herpes wart on Clinton's lip has been successfully covered up."

LOL Daddy!
Posted by: Jane - Mock the Media! | October 22, 2012 at 08:39 PM
Just got off the phone with my buddy from the BEA who still intends to vote 0.
me: All he did was hire more gov't employees.
b: I'm pretty sure there are less gov't employess.
me: I'm talking federal gov't, that's why the DC housing market is the only one still standing.
b: I'm an economist and feel "on firm ground". Cutting taxes drops revenue.
me: No it doesn't, it often raises it.
Buddy explains that the Laffer curve cites are inaccurate, and only worked when Kennedy dropped the rates from 90% and didn't work under Reagan.
me: Revenues went up under Reagan.
crickets
me: Are you still there?
b: There was a lot of inflation.
Small victory. I'm sending a longer email. Any help appreciated.

I love this place. Y'all make me laugh aloud. Jane, I think Barry has more at stake tonight too, and I said a little prayer that Mitt can nail his ass against the wall over what happened in Benghazi.
Let the games begin!!!

I'm afraid I won't finish the other thread in time to say
Happy Birthday. Narc.
You know, for about two years I was totally convinced you were a retired CIA deep cover agent, comfortable on all continents. Now you are a dear and treasured commenter on JOM.

Peter Mamby, whoever he is, is telling Wolf about discovered talking points from the Romney Campaign and tellig us what to expect.
Blah.
Hi JiB. Don't trust my typing or impressions tonight if I stay awake:) Happy B'Day again Narciso.
Gergen now saying that Romney's Talking Points jus t reported are "surprisingly predictable."
Nothing is as "surprisingly predictable" as David Gergen's comments on CNN.
And John King says now that Romney has not inproved his "likability Factor."
Off quick downstairs for a quick Kolsch. Burp.

Daddy-- billyjeff, fareed and anderson are all on the same team so of course they'll have a convivial conversation. ..uh... Well.. Anderson's on a different team in one respect... But they are all on the same political team anyways.

Yard sign update from East Hampton, NY ... except it's a cup, not a yard sign update. Every presidential election year the Monogram Shop in East Hampton sells plastic (dishwasher safe!) cups with the names of the candidates (this year, obviously Romney/Ryan -- Obama/Biden) for two bucks a pop. And ever since they've been doing it, it's been an accurate predictor of the winner. Well, as of today, Romney/Ryan's up by almost a thousand. In East Hampton! Anecdotal, but put that in your pipe and smoke it, my friends.

Strawman, give it up. Suicide mission.
daddy, Koln is one of our favorite cities in Germany since it so close to Belgium. Some great eateries there plus the Kolsh as you have discovered. Don't forget to reset the soul by going to the Cathedral. If you have time take the High Speed ICE into Amsterdam for nice walk along the canals.

tonto,
Are you sure you are in East Hampton and not Stony Brook or Smithtown? I am flabbergasted. It must mean there were a whole lot of tourists from Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas this month in Rattnerland.
Either that or the bench in front of Driessens is getting overly crowded.
/Inside stuff folks. Even Narciso is stuck.

JiB,
Yeah, It's ongoing. But this is the man who intro'd me to Ayn, of which I reminded him tonight.
"You can have silly ideas when you are a sophomore"
me (thinking of the saw of the young heartless capitlist and the old brainless communist): But you are doing it backwards.
I still think there is hope for this fellow, regardless of his opinions, he's guaranteed a huge federal pension and I'd like to be in a position to help him spend it.
Posted by: Strawman Cometh | October 22, 2012 at 08:54 PM
I think Narciso is the "most interesting man in the world" - or that's how I envision him.
Good luck Mitt. CNN has already determined that you have lost the debate. What dinks they are.

Jib-- back in the day by late october mostly normal people in EH plus the theater and artsy types, so elections were not all left wing. Stony brook? My alma mater and my wife"s hometown? Remember, no more grumman so between the academics and renaissance tech hedgies, its quite dem.

NK,
Stony Brook is one of my favorite places on the north fork. When my Dad's heart problem put him in the hospital there I stayed at the Inn by the village park and the Sound. Enjoyed it all even in a very worrisome time for me. In fact it helped me to deal with it.

Watch out for nuclear war--and who is more likely to bring that happenstance into being? (Sheesh--and I think our moderator is even a tad embarrassed by his own framing, though he was probably proud of it when he thought of it in the shower the other day...)

We can't kill our way out of this mess

Romney diminishes Obama talking point in the first answer. Started slow but came on strong.
Posted by: J.R. | October 22, 2012 at 09:06 PM
The bobbing was acutely obvious on the word "Libya" from Romney's lips.
Posted by: Laura White | October 22, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Mentions OBL, says, "We can't kill our way out of this mess."
Whoa. That's like something the Dems would say to a Republican.
Posted by: PD | October 22, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Obama not pulling a visual "Joe Biden" on my split screen as Mitt talks..
That tells me they understand how damaging Biden's guffawing was.

Obama explaining why his Afghan policy is a failure. Well, that's not what *he* thinks he's doing.
Posted by: PD | October 22, 2012 at 09:07 PM
Obama repeats his talking points. Ignores ROmney's points - at his peril. He thinks getting out of Afghanistan is making friends with all the people around the globe.
He's failing.
Posted by: Jane - Mock the Media! | October 22, 2012 at 09:07 PM
I have ancestors buried in Stony Brook, does that count? :)

Step back and think about what happened in Libya......lead from behind!
Posted by: J.R. | October 22, 2012 at 09:08 PM
Mitt fumbled the question and gave the JEF an opening to brag about his failures as a success. Is he trying to trap him to say something that will be an opening?

Obama explaining why his Libyan policy is a failure. Well, that's not what *he* thinks he's doing.

Jib--that sounds as if it was the three village inn. Did you see the us post office eagle flap its wings on the hour? It s still a fine quaint place -- if you ever make it back up to the north fork there are still many relatively unspoilt places out east past shoreham.
Posted by: NKOnIPad | October 22, 2012 at 09:08 PM

Obama's Russia joke is ridiculous and stupid.
Posted by: J.R. | October 22, 2012 at 09:11 PM
I think Mitt has just thrown the Independent vote away on his Al Queda answer. Forget the idea of a moderate muslim and indoctrination to the values of the west. He is very naive and showing it. I am so disappointed in his answer that I am turning off the debate to go back to the football game.
This is a disaster. Who the hell is his National Security advisor. This is a game changer and Romney is losing it.

Yeah, Mitt, though--he doesn't seem rattled by it.
