Annoying Old Guy

The winds are there already? I hope you have a soft landing.

Clarice

Where's "Mother" Sheehan and her claque? Doesn't Charles Woods have the same "absolute moral authority"? And why hasn't Biden been committed to some institution for the mentally ill instead of being on the Democratic ticket again?

Captain Hate

Saturday's WSJ, dead tree and online, has nothing regarding Benghazi.

Sue

Be safe my mid atlantic friends.

Jane - Mock the Media!

I'd rather have Biden in the oval than Obama. I'd rather have nuts than evil, narcissistic and stupid.

narciso

That this is going on, under a nominally Tory regime, would have angered PeterUK, but he wouldn't be surprised;

Clarice

Jane, a man who asks a grieving father of a hero ,"Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?" should have his rear end kicked out of office.

OldTimer

Brett Baier has an updated Benghazi report scheduled for this weekend.

I sense a growing chorus of Thomas Becket's eyeballing the Oval office and its conniving collaborators.

OT, but here's one worth reading. Our own Sandy Daze piles on James Webb for the "most disappointing Senator" award. I was gonna comment, but decided I couldn't improve on this.

Where was Secretary Clinton while her people were being attacking and killed? Why wasn't she demanding immediate assistance?

narciso

She was at the DS operations center, somewhat akin to MTAC on NCIS,

rse

Because if the media actually covered the real Benghazi known facts, even leaving out the speculation, we would be way beyond Rick's 54%.

If the media cannot stop the loss, they want to be able to misportray the reasons for it and not have it be a landslide.

And congrats to the Denver reporter for showing what ought to be going on more widely.

CH-note that the Amplify I wrote about is owned by Newscorp. I am afraid the WSJ is caught in the midst of Rupert's wavering as to whether the future path is free market or Statist. Amplify is definitely a bet on the latter and in fact seeks to lucratively drive the process. I was stunned by all the players from my various stories who are managing to show up on their site to be part of their desired vision. Including CASEL.

Captain Hate

Our own Sandy Daze piles on James Webb for the "most disappointing Senator" award. I was gonna comment, but decided I couldn't improve on this.

Sandy gets the tone just right.

Captain Hate

rse, Rupert owns Fox, right? I guess I find it more strange than anything that there's a disconnect between the two. A weird kind of hedge.

Jane - Mock the Media!

Jane, a man who asks a grieving father of a hero ,"Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?" should have his rear end kicked out of office.

I couldn't agree more. However a man who refuses to provide help to 4 American Patriots because it might hurt his chances of re-election should be put in jail and the key thrown away.

These are very bad choices.

Yes, but Klein who was the NYC Sup, as I recall, is also on that board, and he's the

NJ Jan

The model being used is gfs. Below is a description of what they think will happen. WC talking about water surge into NY harbor. Concerned about subway system.

To give you an idea of duration for this storm. Here's hour 72 (12 hours after landfall). The center of the storm has crossed NJ and has wrapped around towards the PA/MD border. As you can see, the Jersey Shore is clearly getting battered. Now also keep in mind that the Jersey Shore will like see this intensity for a good 6-12 hour before the center makes landfall. Now you have a 24 hour window of Jersey Shore primary impact. This is why this storm could present damage like the 1962 nor'easter. les nessman

No matter which way the election goes, Benghazi will be the political end of Obama or Hillary; or both.

Rick Ballard

DoT,

A puzzlement for consideration:

Today, Ras has the President's Swing State percentage at 45% (YEAH!!)

Today, the last Ras poll percentage for each swing state for the President multiplied by the total 2008 vote for each swing state yields a total Obama vote for all swing states equal to 49% of the 2008 total. (BOO!!)

One of these is not like the other. The individual polls were recent but not (aside from North Carolina) within precisely the same time frame. The difference may reflect a real, rather sudden shift away from Obama. Total incoherence might be another explanation and I would cheerfully entertain speculation regarding others.

DebinNC

First, Panetta axed Gen Carter Ham, AfriCom [sp] head. Now, an admiral based in the ME has been "reassigned" for showing "inappropriate judgment." Hmm..?

BobS

I hate to be the skeptic on "stand down" but assuming the CIA statement was signed off on by Petraus - I think its safe to assume so - it doesn't indicate whether or not a "stand down" order was given at all by anyone.

If there was no "stand down" there's no theret....there.

rse

Whereever it comes ashore worst damage is to the right as we have discussed here in the past.

Narciso-ATT provided the Fulton super with the Fox theatre as the venue to announce his new 5 Year Strategic Plan. Which was all about digital literacy and increasing grad rates. Well if gaming on a tablet and group projects are the new norm, you can increase the credentialling.

Of course having it at Fox in the Egyptian ballroom (you can search for pics)awed the admins and politicians that this was a validated goal. Me, I am feeling the same way I would about the chemical companies who profited from selling poison gas.

Also remember how much further along the UK and Oz are on this template.

And Klein is also on the Board of Jeb's ed advocacy group. Which does mean he is trying to influence how Rep politicians see ed.

DebinNC

Powerline notes this in today's AP piece:

Fox also reported that U.S. officials refused when the security team asked for U.S. warplanes to bomb their attackers, which would have meant violating Libyan airspace.

AP doesn't say who floated the new Libyan airspace violation canard. Hmm...

Old Lurker

I agree BobS that that statement alone tells us nothing.

But its brevity requires no Clintonesque parsing to impute "don't look here! Look over there!"

Jane - Mock the Media!

This is from TC's link on the last thread. It's damning:

The information I heard today was that General Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.

Danube of Thought on Ipad

I just can't reconcile them, Rick, but total incoherence is not unlikely. If there were a sudden, recent shift away from Obama, it should show up elsewhere. Perhaps it does: a three-point gain in Gallup and a 2-point gain in Raz in recent days. If this is a statistically significant shift, and if it is disproportionately occurring in the swing states, it would all fit. But that's a slender reed.

I am hanging my hat these days on the disconnect between the Gallup/Raz party ID numbers and the splits in all the national polls, including their own, which is simply inexplicable--although Gallup claims not to weight for it.

In any event, it is inconceivable that a guy could win the PV by four or more points and not take the EC.

Threadkiller

" PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, the election has nothing to do with four brave Americans getting killed and us wanting to find out exactly what happened. These are folks who served under me who I had sent to some very dangerous places. Nobody wants to find out more what happened than I do. But we want to make sure we get it right, particularly because I have made a commitment to the families impacted as well as to the American people, we're going to bring those folks to justice. So, we're going to gather all the facts, find out exactly what happened, and make sure that it doesn't happen again but we're also going to make sure that we bring to justice those who carried out these attacks."

http://www.9news.com/news/politics/296294/139/9NEWS-questions-Obama-on-Libya-attack

"Folks" loses its meaning with me. Voters, soldiers, and terrorists are synonymous to the folk in the Whitehouse.

MAM

Rick and DOT- numbskull here. Please explain what mean when talking about Ras swing state numbers and 49% swing state vote for Obama. You are getting me nervous again. Do you mean that Obama is at 49% in the swing states?

BobS

Jane...I hate to even consider that commanders would fail to respond to requests by personel under fire. Especially when its and ambassador and civilians. Info like you have and was reported by Jennifer Griffin isnt made up willy nilly. I do not trust Dems - including Panetta - to be entirely candid. Panetta's recent statement regarding why efforts weren't made are extremely troubling. If your information was correct, it was likely Panetta who fired Ham. Only a SecDef would have that kind of juice

BobS

Jennifer Griffin is doing a special now on FOX

Jane - Mock the Media!

Brett Baier special started about 3 minutes ago (delayed for ROmney's speech)

Some Guy

So the top General AND the carrier strike force top Admiral have been relieved of command?

DebinNC

Bio of admiral Panetta just axed for "inappropriate judgment". I think it more likely that the just-fired general and admiral questioned/refused the "stand down" orders, rather than refused to offer aid to the valiant ex-SEALS. A couple of more such firings, and we'll be in Seven Days in May territory.

PD

that's the line Levin was satirizing last night: "No one wants to know what I did more that I do." LOL

Yeah. He needs an "investigation" to find out what he knew, when he knew it, and what he did about it.

Right.

The difficulty of getting the truth out of this man, coupled with the fact that people will vote for him, is mind-boggling.

Old Lurker

DoT, have you opined about the Fox Libya claims? I have not been able to read all the recent threads but would be interested in your take.

pagar

"Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command. "

Jane
Re your 1:25 pm. If true, that is beyond damming. This just becomes more and more disgusting each day as more info is discovered. Will be interesting to see if any of this is brought up by anyone, guests or hosts, on Sunday shows. It would be nice if a repub guest brought it up whether it is the topic or not.

MarkO

He's just a stupid folker.

Rick Ballard

MAM,

No. I constructed a mathematical artifact using actual 2008 data as a cross check against two sets of relatively current data from the same source. The 49% has no meaning except as a check.

My hypothesis regarding the apparent change is Governor Romney's performance in the second and third debates assured loosely affiliated Democrat voters he was a viable alternative to a President they have come to detest. The strong viewership ratings for the second and especially the third debate indicate an unusual level of interest among weak partisans. Governor Romney may not have "won" the debates but his performance did not scare the sheep.

pagar

Previously Narciso posted a link that said the British are paying jailed terrorists. Now I see that the US is still paying Maj Hasan for killing Americans at Ft Hood.

Ranger

All this talk about two commanders being relieved is pretty major stuff, and should be easy to confirm with a simple question about who is in command right now.

BTW, all this makes the working of the CIA statement pretty clear:

"No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate." (bold added)

Someone higher up the chain of command ordered a stand down. One is left to wonder how all of this ties in with the reports that a relief effort was ambushed that night.

It is starting to sound like some form of response was ordered. That initial response encountered strong resistance, and then, rather than escilate to complete the mission, either the Pentagon or the White Hours ordered a stand down until "further information could be gathered." During that pause, the fighting at the annex continued, and the two former SEALs were killed. At a later time, an evacuation operation was executed, which got the remaining people out, but I am betting that the order to proceed wasn't issued until the predator confirmed that the hostiles and left and the mortars were dismantled.

Danube of Thought on Ipad

MaM, the Raz numbers for all swing states combined are 50-45. What Rick is pointing out is that if you rake each indidual poll and multiply it by the votes cast n 2008, Obama gets 49% of what he got then.

Population increase and a larger turnout would reduce that percentage.

Danube of Thought on Ipad

OL, we have been houseguests for the past 24 hours and I haven't been able to follow it as closely as I would like to.

maryrose

pagar and PD:
I share your concern about the electorate and the actions regarding the firing of Ham. I want Ham to go to the nearest microphone and tell everyone why he was fired. Is that insubordination and could he be court-martialed for it? We need people to stop covering up for Obama'a bad judgment and nistakes as CIC.

DebinNC

The just-fired AfriCom, Gen. Carter Ham, took over from this guy, who recently barely escaped being court-martialed. Looking like Obama's brother was likely a help.

Jack is Back

I'll catch up the thread later but thought y'all would be interested in my trip to early vote today. We're a small county of only 50K registered voters. There are only two places to early vote - the County Election office or the main Library.

Because of some other errands I needed to do I chose our County Election office. At 11:30am there was a line of about 150 with an over 40 minute wait time. So I decided to try the main Library instead. No way. Huge crowds and lines and over 1 1/2 hour wait. Never seen early vote like this - not even in 08. Now having early vote start on a Saturday means a lot of working people are taking advantage since it may be more difficult for them during the weekday.

But the corners of all main streets were filled with local politician's supporters waving signs and flags. But the main intersection right off 95 was manned by Tea Party types and one guy had a handmade sign that said something about Libya:)

So I guess I'll got to the polls after I take Frederick to school on Monday and get there early enough to avoid the big lines.

Hard to say if these a Mittmentum crowd for early vote but there are definitely more Romney signs than Obama signs at both locations.

narciso

Those two lads, one from the 'troublesome and numerous' Al Harbi clan, were first noted here;

MAM

Rick and DOT- thanks for the clarification. Math has never been my strong suit:) It's a gorgeous day here in Mass. I'm going for a run and think about how sweet an RR victory would be!

BobS

Great comments found in the BLACKFIVE site about the CIA statement:

This could be the CIA throwing Obama under the bus. Note the two things it DOESNOT SAY:

1. It doesn't say that the reports of the CIA officers requesting aid from higher is completely inaccurate.

2. It doesn't say that NOBODY refused to help.

So if help was requested, but not granted, and the CIA wasn't the problem, who was the one who rejected the requests? Certainly not some O-6 in Sicily. His ass would be having an Article 32 by now...

Jack is Back

Here is the original Jennifer Griffin report. Lets say she is wrong about the layering of the mortar crew (which I believe is correct) then what are the other excuses (not reasons) for a three-peat of "standing down". That plus the CIF stationed in Sigonella is probably a Marine Special Operations Force similar to Det One in Fallujah back in 2003-2006. These are mean ass SOB's who's only object in their military life is to kill the enemy. Hard for me to believe that you have an In-Exrtemis Force stationed at Sigonella for such situations and your phony excused is "air space clearance" and/or "lack of intel". What lack of intel? You have the CIA guys giving real-time intel including one of their security guys (the ex-SEAL) most likely using a handheld long distance laser designator. [These are the size of a large flashlight and are used by hunters everywhere]

This story is not holding up but getting pretty damn close to a "high crime and misdemeanor". The story I keep hearing is that at the 5PM Situation Room meeting Dempsey and Ham did some hand-wringing and hemming and hawing which only gave Obama an excuse to not do anything that would harm his re-election. No wonder it took 3 to 4 different discussions to get him to make his OBL "gutsy call".
