Clarice

Thanks, TM.
Scooting around the iT today someone came up with an even better analogy, this incident in Benghazi and the Administration's fairy tale about it reminds the poster of the spanish train bombing where falsely blaming it on Basque separatists brought down the government of Spain.

narciso

That's somewhat plausible, Clarice, except Aznar probably had more grounds to suspect
that it was ETA. what struck me is eight n eight year after Madrid, the Webster
report on Ft. Hood, still didn't have it right, saying it was a 'spontaneous' action.

Captain Hate

Axelrod is melting down on FNS. If he wasn't such a miserable POS I might feel sorry for him. LOL no; F him.

Danube of Thought

peter

Great Pieces, Clarice. Has anyone noticed that Axelrod, never exactly a winner in the looks department has morphed into a clown? The strain of playing puppet master to his downlow creepy moron must be tremendous.

narciso

Of course they Gov. 'Jiffy Loob' pitching a slider on MTP, so if there is a real video detailing an assault, and another video, which had nothing to do with it, which to
consider, it's coming to me.

Clarice

peter, I don't watch TV so I didn't notice. Maybe it's a real life version of the Sorcerer's Apprentice where he put something into play--a moronic poseur--and can't control his apprentice's future mindlessly destructive actions.

Jane - Mock the Media!

Cap'n

Don't watch Jake Tapper interview Beau Biden. It will make you throw up.

narciso

Hey I have the patent on that one, Clarice, which I'll let you 'borrow' for a modest fee.

Captain Hate

But but but Jake Tapper is a member of the MFM we can work with, I keep getting told...

hit and run

Fun with North Carolina early voting. Actually only absentee votes at this point -- in person early voting doesn't begin until Thursday.

Pulled from the NC Board of Elections this morning.

Total Votes: 50,674
Dem: 13,887 - 27.4%
Rep: 27,455 - 54.2%
Unaffiliated: 9,255 - 18.3%
Libertarian: 77 - 0.2%

Compare that with 2008:
Dem: 51.4%
Rep: 30.2%
Other: 18.5%

Those are breakouts by registration, not by vote cast (of course, you can't vote for unaffiliated!). But certainly some assumptions can be made -- allowing us to say there's been a complete flip of the parties, at least at this point. But we are in the early part of early voting.

Notably, the black vote makes up 7.1% of the 2012 early vote total -- 23% of the Democrat vote and 0.2% of the Republican vote. In 2008, they were 27% of the total early vote.

It remains to be seen if this is evidence of blacks staying home, or if they are less enthusiastic to get votes in early but will still vote when all is said and done.

Chris Dodd, on the panel, not sweating out an interpol warrant.

Captain Hate

Chris Wallace is extremely hung up on not realizing that revenue projections on tax plans are ESTIMATES and not guaranteed. Corporations are sitting on so much cash that just eliminating Bammycare would open a revenue floodgate even at the current rates much less anything stimulating growth.

hrtshpdbox

Minus 13 at Raz today.

Trails Romney by 2.

Those liars!!

Clarice

It's yours, narciso.

Sandy Daze posts on FB this detailed presentation by DoS on the Benghazi post and the events there.http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/10/198791.htm

Captain Hate

Jeff Zeleney on the FNS panel was extremely impressed with the enthusiasm for Romney in Ohio; not just being anti-JEF but very pro Mitt.

hrtshpdbox

Chris Wallace is extremely hung up on not realizing that revenue projections on tax plans are ESTIMATES and not guaranteed.
Wallace is forever afflicted with an inability to understand anything about the benefits of getting gov't out of the way and letting free enterprise work. If he'd been around in '80, he would have been saying "Governor Reagan, your numbers don't add up - where will the revenues come from if you cut taxes??". He's a first-class dolt.

Captain Hate

Laura Ingraham is convinced that the JEF will do great in a town-hall format with Crowley tossing him softballs. Am I the only person who's expecting him to come off as a stuttering imbecile in this as well?

Steve

I don't see how us circling the wagons around Ryan helps the cause. Ryan was overmatched. He does not have the maturity to know how to present the Romney proposals on tax cuts and medicare in a way that acknowledges shortcomings but emphasizes what has to be done. If Biden had not been such a clown he would have been declared a clear winner.

Romney showed bad judgement selecting Ryan. Huckabee would have been ideal if he was willing to take the job.

sailor

Well, I have wondered just how Benghazi was affecting the muddle and found out this morning at church. I sat by this woman who is retired military and asked her what she thought of Benghazi. She looked non-plussed and really did not know what I was talking about. I followed by saying, you know, the ambassador was killed, etc. She then looked blank and said she didn't think we had all the facts! Go figure.

narciso

Was he 'enchanted' well there is reason to be concerned, it will be like the dining hall in Westeros, but I think Mitt can handle it

Steve

The downside to Romney bringing economic growth to the country is that that growth will complete the transition of the country to a newly arrived immigrant land. A huge number of immigrants from 3rd world and muslim countries will flood the US once economic growth resumes in the country.

hrtshpdbox

Am I the only person who's expecting him to come off as a stuttering imbecile in this as well?
No, I'm sure you're right - Romney has a Vulcan mind control grip on Bammy. I'm looking forward to watching Obama melt into a sad puddle at the sight of Romney being empathetic and engaged with the "common man".

Captain Hate

Britt Hume is going ballistic on the lies from Susan Rice being the handmaiden on Benghazi. Bob Woodward is even joining in on the pileup.

Clarice

Steve, I keep accidentally reading your posts and losing precious brain cells in the process. Would you be so kind as to type your name at the top of your posts?

hrtshpdbox

Romney showed bad judgement selecting Ryan.
Horse puckey. When Romney carries Wisconsin, the Ryan pick will be lauded as genius. Now, Huckabee, that would have been an awful pick. Gads, "steve", you do talk a lot of nonsense.

Steve

"... She then looked blank and said she didn't think we had all the facts! ..."

democrats are very worried this scandal will cause Obama the election. Plus democrats think about Americans serving overseas more abstractly than republicans. Romney should be saying cabinet secretaries in his admin will be accountable for their dept failings. The Sec of State should do the honorable thing and resign.

narciso

It's beenabout two weeks since Lake, really started turning out Pulitzer quality work, and like with Holland's explosive Watergate
expose, not word one in the Basilisk's dead
tree edition,

Steve

"... Would you be so kind as to type your name at the top of your posts? ..."

What about simply defending your POV Clarice? You actually think Ryan did well in the debate? I have seen no sign of him since and heard no mention from Romney. Ryan made no sense on what the US should be doing in Afg. And why should the country's navy be patrolling the world's seas?

Clarice

Eli Lake IS the go to guy on this story, narciso. He seems to have excellent sources of information.

Jane - Mock the Media!

Am I the only person who's expecting him to come off as a stuttering imbecile in this as well?

I expect him to talk endlessly and say absolutely nothing.

Steve, there is no "we" here. You hate Ryan, you hate immigrants and you love to bait. You are as far from a tea partier as possible.

Go away.

If anyone is watching MTP could you please tell me who is that very stupid man (I think he's a mayor)? He should not be re-elected.

Jennifer Granholm is also on. Her histrionics at the democrat convention remind me of Biden's debate.

Rick Ballard

Hit,

Enumeration is unfair. Please post scientistic sampling results so people won't be mislead.

PS - The North Carolina enumeration is suspect because it differs substantially from the PPP sample of early voters in Ohio.

Steve

"... Now, Huckabee, that would have been an awful pick. ..."

Why do you say that? Huckabee seems very smart to me. He would be someone who could speak to Romney as a peer. Haley Barbour would have been good also. Or Nikki Haley.

narciso

When you think that the alternative was Biden, who would be hard pressed to explain why Hezbollah's CFO, 'hightailed' to Israel, according to Al Arabiya, six years after 'they were kicked out of Lebanon, and the successor is John 'Do You know who I am'
Kerry, the mind reels.

That briefing fails from one basic premise, that Lake tried to introduce, why was their no security detail.

matt

clarice, I don't know if anyone could have summarized it better.

"The incestuous relationship between the media and the Democrats is of such longstanding that you could say the Capitol is like Deliverance with better clothes and haircuts."

and about as much intelligence.

narciso

What was that Shakespeare quote about history, again,

Steve

"... Steve, there is no "we" here. You hate Ryan, you hate immigrants and you love to bait. You are as far from a tea partier as possible. ..."

Ryan was an excellent congressman. What I do not like is the democraticization of forums like this one. Democrats are the ones who brook no criticism of the party line. The republicans I know are more open minded and welcome debate to work out the best position on the issues.

Steve

"... The incestuous relationship between the media and the Democrats ..."

a good debater who had solid policy positions could have included Raddatz as a foe in his debate. Raddatz could side with Biden all she wants, Ryan simply has to insist on having time to speak and tell Biden to shut up when he interrupts. Ryan was esp weak on the FP part of the debate. The public is not eager for extending our stay in Afg and beefing up our Navy.

narciso

Lake is one of the few, you can probably count them on one hand, that is doing any real reporting on this, that's why I've linked him from the get go, He has to carry all those other idiots like Beinart, Sullivan, Gelb, at the Beast.

sailor

Can we have a new thread w/out Steve?????

hit and run

Rick:
The North Carolina enumeration is suspect because it differs substantially from the PPP sample of early voters in Ohio.

Heh. Yeah, going to the board of elections really is mean rather than relying on polling, isn't it?

The really interesting number to me is specifically in Cumberland County. A 52-48 state for Bush in 2004. A 59-41 state for Obama in 2008. In fact, Obama picked up a net 26K votes in Cumberbland compared to 2004, in a race he won by 14K votes.

The registration breakdown for early voting in Cumberland County so far is...
Dem: 33%
Rep: 47%
Unaf: 19%

narciso

Now mind you, Raddatz set the template, by posing the problem as an 'intelligence failure' and then Biden went full Constanza;

that is true, I did not look very hard. I hope Ryan has appeal in the midwest. Very scary how Ohio has lined up with the democrats. That baloney about Obama saving GM needs to be countered by extensive argument.

PaulV

She doesn't for the same reason one doesn't defend one's POV with a petulent infant who just tossed its pabulum or a recalcitrant teen who refuses to take out the garbage.
Grow up and advance an argument more coherent, or even sane, than "economic growth bad" or "go along with Dems and destroy economy and then point out how bad their policies are" and perhaps someone would listen to rather than dismiss you, fool.

OldTimer

Will someone PLEASE get Chris Wallace a chart that explains in terms a 10 year old would understand how "we're going to pay for" lower taxes? Sheesh...he's been a broken record for years on this issue and should be red-faced embarrassed by his own economic bullheadedness.

Huckabee. LOL. Worst sort of leftist caricature of a Republican evah!

Sara

The public is not eager for extending our stay in Afg and beefing up our Navy.

What public? I think that in general people would like us to finish Afghanistan and come home, but I don't think any sane people think we should give a date/time certain.

As to our Navy, which is in a pathetic state with ship levels at a low not matched since 1917, the overwhelming public response when Romney promises not to decimate the military as Obama would like to do and has been doing, and he talks about the state of our Navy and our Air Force and what needs to be done, the crowd goes wild with cheers.

And your remark about thinking Republican forums are more open to discussion than dem's, I think you are correct. However, the ticket is set as Mitt Romney for president and Paul Ryan for vice president, so discussing who would be better at this point is kind of a stupid waste of time, don't you think. Huckabee has no desire to give up his very lucrative show or lecture circuit fees. Nikki Haley has a job as a Governor and does not have the budget background that Ryan has. You do know that he is considered the expert in this area by both sides of the aisle, don't you? And Haley Barber, where did that come from?

What the public, at least the conservative and Republican public, wants is for America to be strong, because they do believe in American exceptionalism and the addage of peace through strength. What they don't believe in is appeasement.

caro

Everyone should read the link above from Sandy's FB page. It is the same one MarkO linked last night through Powerline. It fills in lots of details and brings up more questions. It appears the SEALS were killed at the annex maybe hours after the ambassador died at the consulate. I wondered why there were no masks in the kit or the safe haven so that smoke inhalation would not kill those attacked or involved in rescue. Sean's body was found, but nothing on how Steven's body was recovered or ended up at the hospital.

It seems like this should have been monitored from the situation room in real time.

"... than "economic growth bad" ..."

the point is that the country has to get immigration under control. Even to the point of halting it from non European countries. I have no doubt that Romney will do a great job with the economy. But in the abscense of immigration controls the country will be flooded with more immigrants looking for work.

Steve has me reading the author before the comments. And I second Clarice's comments.

http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/protected-producers-vs-paying-consumerstaxpayerswho-will-prevail-on-education-and-the-economy/ is based in part from the vision of the New Economy Brookings is pushing in the updated version of the Regional Equity Movement. Now using the term Metropolitanism for confusion.

That was the Breakfast I went to last Friday where the former developer and now Sustainability consultant told me it was too late to stop this radical remake of the global economy. And grinned that I had accurately nailed the ed component and the desire to shut down the high achieving high schools and students in the suburbs.

It is such a Mercantilist vision that we are being asked to fund without choice. Just take the product being delivered so that the politically connected gain and retain political power.

That serfdom metaphor just keeps applying.

Sandy Daze

One more thing, retired Navy CAG from the light attack community forwarded me the following (as received):
QUOTE

Got this first hand from the retired Rear Admiral who drafted it.

Went to the foreign policy statement event yesterday at VMI. Afterwards, I was in a group of a dozen retired military officers to join both Mitt Romney and Gov Bob McDonnell in a roundtable discussion for about 35 minutes. I want to share some takeaways.
> First, the foreign policy vision was clearly presented with no notes or prompters. He presented a coherent description of the world and how America should conduct itself. Basically, the message was consistency, predictability and strength.

His words, both at the formal presentation and afterwards in a private discussion, contained none of the angry hate and bile characteristic of the Obama machine.

During the roundtable discussion, he showed a clear understanding of the issues facing our military today. We discussed force levels, acquisition, benefits, Veteran affairs and DoD/Agency organizational structure and relationships. Governor Romney engaged each of us and listened before adding his thoughts. He clearly is a businessman and sees many of the issues we discussed through that prism. I think he will put America back to work and that he will size our military with a view of both the past and the future.

I left for the rainy drive home energized and looking forward to the future.

Sara

Rasmussen on Fox and Friends this morning was announcing his latest polls. Has O still up by 1 pt. in Ohio, but the rest of the swing states belong to Romney right now by about 2 pts, although Florida I think is up by 4.

Steve

"... he talks about the state of our Navy and our Air Force and what needs to be done, the crowd goes wild with cheers. ..."

yeah, I don't know about that. I think there is more of a divide in the Republican party over FP than the conservative media will report. I think the Israel lobby is very powerful and is pressing the US to attack Iran and keep a global leadership position. It is a real mess actually, the way voters have such little influence on the practice of FP of the US.

Of a piece with the link I posted above...

Knowing PPP would have something wacky, I decided to cut right down to the most absurd point highlighted by the firm: 19% of respondents have already voted and they are breaking 3-1 Obama. That seems to spell certain doom for Romney.

LUN

Further: ...any pollster hyping the statistic is either ignorant of the actual statistical numbers reported or they are deliberately pushing a very, very steamy pile.

But nobody would push something that obviously isn't true. That would be the work of a hack, not a reputable pollster.

But, but but reputations!!!

pagar-Florida went to Outcomes Based education before Jeb took office and has been pushing the Second Order emotional transformative thinking known as Norman Webb's Depth of Knowledge. The template shows up on the websites of virtually every school district in the state. That dovetails with the openended questions NAEP is pushing which is why Fla does better on NAEP (only given to maybe 5% of students in 4 and 8) but students seem unable to read well.

And then jeb's crowd who now have turned trumpeting ed in Fla as their livelihood celebrate the NAEP instead of state tests where the dominant emphasis on Whole Language shows up. That differential is based on what happens when you insist on WL with different groups. They vary in their at home remediation of its pernicious effects. So you get the different goals.

They either need to teach reading properly which the educators will not do because symbolic manipulation a la phonetic reading is what nurtures individualism and Axemaker Minds OR get rid of reading altogether. Which is actually where the digital literacy push is going. Fla is to be all digital by 2017.

My trip to beach was partly to have a little chat with the head of the Ed subcommittee in the legislature. I can tell who has been lobbying her when we talk just by the phraseology she responds with to my various questions.

So the digital literacy push will obscure print illiteracy and that is part of the purpose. Tragic, huh? If you can still communicate with the aid of a computer and visuals, you will be deemed Literate for official purposes even if the only words you can read are sight words in expected daily life contexts.

Quickly CCSSI will have made ALL groups literate. No more need for different goals now thanks to the miracles of the new standards. It's not like anyone actually reads all the different reports instead of relying on what Ed Week says is important to know.

Sad. Sad. Sad. but print literacy is in the way of the planned Economic Transformation as I explained in today's post. LUN

I know fisking a NYT piece is like hitting the side of barn with a pitch, but today's Week in Review has a Kristof piece about why we really really need Obamacare. (I won't even link it.) The story? "Scott" has a midlife crisis, quits his high-paying job, chooses not to get health insurance, choose not to pay "a few hundred dollars" to see a doctor despite alarming symptoms, ends up with Stage 4 prostate cancer. Of course no one wishes anyone such a fate, but could there be a more textbook case of why we DON'T want Obamacare? Even acknowledging Scott's bad decisions, Kristof says it's only "civilized" that we take care of people who choose to be irresponsible, never discussing the slippery slope that leads to. (Or maybe he did, I quit reading.)

There are also lies: He didn't buy insurance because there wasn't a fairly-rated pool. Of course he could have continued with the insurance he had under COBRA for something like 18 months, but he didn't even do that.

Kristof's punch line: "When I make mistakes, my wife and friends forgive me. We need a health care system that is equally forgiving." Pheh.

"... 19% of respondents have already voted and they are breaking 3-1 Obama ..."

many get out the vote efforts are inherently coercive and should be made illegal. Having a union member or a paid community organizer show up at your door telling you to get in the van to be brought to the polling place or given and absentee ballot is wrong. People should be allowed to make their own voting decisions.

I've had the text formatting tool for about five years with my FF but one of the FF updates several years ago killed my ability to use it. I think the problem is my Vista OS, since I'm still unable through successive updates to get the toolbar back into commission.

That sounds suspiciously like Nocera's argument againsr investment, based on his own experience.
