Merry Christmas to you and your family, too, Tom!
Off to retrieve Mr. Heart Attack in a couple of hours. His lovely daughter, who now lives in Mel's neck of the woods, will come along to play nurse. They all decided that Dad was in good enough shape that Christmas dinner is back on. Grinch, be gone!

Merry Christmas Tom.
The cats got into the wrapping paper and bow bag trying to get the rest of the family awake. Breakfast had been delayed for no good reason as far as they are concerned.

Hope it is wonderful for all.

too much Barolo last night, but otherwise a good Christmas so far. Merry Christmas fellow JOMsters, and thank you Tom and your family for making this forum available to us. Peace on earth.

An especially Merry Christmas to all our Democratic friends who may have lost their faith in Christ, but at least have regained their blind child-like faith that a benevolent Santa Claus not only exists but has relocated his global operations to the shores of the Potomac.

Heh, Iggy, that sounds like a start on a good psychological theory of leftism: arising out of early childhood trauma of learning that there's no Santa.
We're at an inn in VT, and while waiting for breakfast I overhear a couple discussing gun control. "They talk about 2nd amendment rights, but the 1st amendment doesn't allow you to yell 'Fire!' in a crowded theater." Such a brilliant and original insight. I resisted the temptation to butt in and ask how a law-abiding citizen owning a gun is analogous, but it being Christmas morning and all, I held back.
Posted by: Jimmyk | December 25, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Oops, that should have read "I was tempted to butt in...."

--"They talk about 2nd amendment rights, but the 1st amendment doesn't allow you to yell 'Fire!' in a crowded theater."--
Even if there's a fire?

The point of that 12:21 comment being the 2nd amendment doesn't give me the right to shoot or recklessly endanger innocent people, which is the equivalent of the old "fire" chestnut, and which are quite properly already illegal.
I am allowed to keep and bear arms without harming innocent others which is the equivalent of free speech, both of which the left, not coincidentally, have in their sights.

I'd like to give a special Merry CHristmas to the JOMers I've met (which took a large upward jump this year) and narc for recommending Burn Notice.

Merry Christmas to all.
Last Sunday at our 1000hrs mass, before the procession, a gentleman in a dark blazer, open necked shirt and scarf stood up in front of the Organ and Piano and began to sing Ave Maria.
Turns out he is a professional Opera singer, born in Rhode Island but currently living in Stuttgart, Germany where he performs across Europe. You could tell that this guy was a professional. He did not need a microphone and his strong, trained tenor echo throughout the church and mesmerized those already seated. It was Pavoratti or Bocelia like wetted a few eyes in the house.
Again today at the same mass, he performed a solo in the same manner of "Oh Holy Night" and received a standing ovation. Quite remarkable and serendipity to come into church expecting the same O, Same O from the choir and organist but instead get the full rich voice on one of the greatest carols of all time.
He comes to the area once a year since his parents live here. When he is here he asks our music director if he can sing with the choir but the director is smart enough to ask him to solo and open each mass.
Brilliant stuff.

I still wouldn't recommend yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater full of 2nd amendment adherents.

"I am allowed to keep and bear arms without harming innocent others which is the equivalent of free speech, both of which the left, not coincidentally, have in their sights"
Right, and if they say your weapons pose a risk of being stolen or misused, the same could be said of words, but we don't put prior restraint on speech just because some people abuse it.

JiB, that's a wonderful addition to your Christmas mass. My long-ago girlfriend in Washington State won an open, state-wide competition for best soprano when she was a junior in high school. She was a very major plus for the music of my uncle's congregation, and I went to several other congregations to hear her sing as a guest soloist. She's now lead soprano with the Portland Symphonic Choir. Unfortunately, I was too clueless about women way back then, so I lost her. But I can still hear her lovely voice in my memories.
Iggy, you're sizzling today.
Again, to all my cyber-family, I wish you all of God's blessings on this special holiday!

Ann, just in case you haven't already checked, Vance's near Morse and Westerville Rd., or Blackwing out west of Delaware on 36(?) should have some ammo. $400/case is sort of the standard for decent local shops. I bought my first Colt AR at Vance's the day after 9/11.
