How odd.

And the connection to ValJar?

narciso

I hit my quota of Times fishwrap, but did they point out, that this was one of Hillary's people, hired away from State,

Gus

There is something seriously wrong with this dude.

narciso

Yes, they did mention it in passing,

rse

Clarice-I am not quite sure "Descent into Darkness" is quite right. It seems to me to be more like Shoved down the stairs than some sort of descent.

Thanks for taking that on. I was thinking yesterday about the 30-something Principals and Administrators pushing this crap not just in education but throughout govt agencies. Blowing up the world they think they get to retire on.

Adults who screw up their faces at the approach of a rational point with facts to back it up. No. No. No. We feel. We have "good intentions" or bad intentions about purported "evil" people.

That Bestiality story would suggest that the method of avoidance in dealing with WW2 as "Hitlers come at Hitlers go" as a film at the Europa Center in Berlin phrased it back in 1990 has not worked so well. I have made this point before but East Berlin in fall 1990 walking along Unter din Linden is the only place I have ever been where evil felt tangible.

Gus

I wonder if the devout Mr Jacob Lew is keenly aware of how much his beloved Democrat party loves Israel.
This is the category of STUCK ON STUPID.
http://dailycaller.com/2012/12/02/hillary-clinton-israel-has-lack-of-generosity-lack-of-empathy-for-palestinians/

Clarice

Jack used to be one of my husband's partners. He's a very decent fellow.

narciso

You don't exorcise 60 years of evil, that easily,
rse, my LUN indicates the level of category error
in the higher levels of academia

narciso

Speaking of category error, in the LUN

Clarice

FTA: "n 1983, as an aide to Speaker Tip O’Neill when Ronald Reagan was president, Mr. Lew helped put Social Security on a path to solvency with a plan that, to many Democrats’ chagrin, will eventually raise the retirement age to 67. He keeps a gavel from the day the legislation passed, signed by Mr. O’Neill, on a bookshelf in his office.

In 1997, under Mr. Clinton, Mr. Lew worked with Republicans to balance the federal budget, enabling the president to leave office with a surplus."

This is what he's there for and if there's a single person in the Administration with financial acumen it's Jack.

BTW his wife is a very modest genius and so is his daughter for whom my son used to babysit.

Gus

Clarice, the man sounds like a solid citizen.
I'm a man of his caliber will quickly figure out Obama's character and skeeeeeeedaddle.

Maybe it's just me, but, I wouldn't piss on Obama if he was on fire. He is as dishonest a figure as I've ever seen. Nothing about the man is honorable. I'm Sure Mr Lew, being of sound character will walk.

Gus

Clarice, I meant, I SURE a man of Jacob Lews' character will not hang around Obama long.

steve

Clarice: his working to help implement Obama's agenda speaks much more about his character than any social interaction you may have had with him. 'Good guys', by definition, don't help the bad guys.

Clarice

Well, we may think so, but aren't you glad to know that there's someone working on this with his reputation for getting such deals done?

Clarice

I don't like Clinton but I'm glad Jack was able to get him and Congress to agree to a balanced budget, and I was no fan of Tip but I'm glad that Jack working with him was able to cut a deal with Reagan on Social Security.

Jane - Mock the Media!

And according to someone this morning - Lew will be taking over Treasury soon. Or were they talking about a different Lew? And is he the same guy who testified he had no car while his wife drives a beamer?

Gus

I suggest one other possibility Steve. Mr Lew believes that Obama is a good guy. There are a lot of great minds who are naive. Mr Lew's lifes track record suggests that upon realizing exactly who Obama is, he will head for the hills, with a nicely worded resignation. It makes me want to puke, but the truth is more than half of those who cast ballots last month, don't GET IT.

Captain Hate

That story on bestiality makes me think we're already over the cliff. "Lifestyle choice"; how can anybody labeling it as such be taken seriously?

Jane - Mock the Media!

I just read the NY Times link which I should have done before my first post. Does anyone else think the Times only writes what it thinks you should hear. (Silly question - everyone does.) The article struck me as vapid at best.

Clarice, what kind of law did Lew practice? And could you please have him over for dinner so we can find out what he really thinks?

Gus

I'm sure that Mr Lew will be able to turn a COMMIE SACK OF SHIT into a fair negotiator.

narciso

That this would be happening, in Germany, which probably fared best through the downturn, is a little surprising, is it limited to Berlin, which was the avant guard capital in Weimar, re Cabaret,?

Danube of Thought on IPad

More wisdom and sound judgment from steve.

Clarice

He only eats kosher, Jane. I'm not sure I could hack it.
I don't recall what kinds of cases he worked on , Jane, but the firm specializes in "energy, environment, natural resources, land use, real estate and governmental issues".

Clarice

Mrs. Lew is not the sort for conspicuous consumption. Believe me the notion of her driving a Beamer is not realistic. I do think Jack drives, so I think you've confused him with someone else.

He'd be a fabulous replacement for the numbskull grifter who presently holds that slot.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I'm not sure I prefer a competent manager ramrodding a fool's awful policy over an incompetent boob doing so.

Clarice

Jack has always been inclined toward government service. Or "nonprofits" like NYU and has worked elsewhere only when other avenues weren't available.

I once tried to persuade his wife that their daughter's desire for a pair of birkenstock sandals was not unseemly vanity.

narciso

According to the wiki, electrical power generation, it's odd I don't recall they mentioned this sort of detail, about his successor at State, as a lobbyist for Fannie Mae;

If Mr. Lew gets the Treasury job, the business world will not be unhappy. He is not a creature of Wall Street, but before joining the Obama administration, he spent three years in high-level (and high-paying) jobs at Citigroup, where he oversaw a unit that lost money but also profited from betting against the subprime mortgage market. Mr. Lew was chief operating officer; in testimony before Congress, he has said he did not make investment decisions.

Clarice

Looks to me from his history cited above that he's more of a skilled, pragmatic negotiator than a "ramrodder".

Threadkiller

Crossposting because I am rude:

The sad thing, Ig, is that I have not linked to Donofrio in a long, long time. Donofrio has not posted anything regarding what interests me since February.

DoT's strawman building kit is complete if he has you convinced.

The latest link I posted was a cased in DC where the Plaintiff has standing. He is asking for identification documentation only including school and passport records. He does NOT mention the two citizen parent theory once. It is a completly new approach,

You only think it is Donofrio because Clarice and DoT said so.

This happens with anything I link. Clarice took me to task for posting the DNC/RNC consent aggrement. She proclaimed that there was nothing to be found there and that she will go no further because I refuse to learn from her free leasons. DoT sang to the heavens when I was chastised. Glory be!

The truth is she silently changes her position when she read more of the detail. After skipping over my link she proceeds to inform me about something I posted 2 hours before her.

It concludes that the RNC has a real problem with ballot security, a problem so bad that the 3rd Circuit left the Consent Decree in place. The issue is headed to SCOTUS with the RNC in the loosing position, yet the last anybody read was that ol' TK is wrong as usual and Donofrio, Donofrio, Donofrio.

Clarice has made a mistake about the severity of this decree. The court sides with my position.

DC has a code that gives actual standing on eligibility, who cares. The RNC has branded themselves racists, in their own decree, and they have not been able to clear themselves in 30years, who cares.

If this does not count as something new, that I have posted, then I have nothing to post.

DrJ

And is he the same guy who testified he had no car while his wife drives a beamer?

I think that was Chu of Energy.

If a child of mine developed a desire for a pair of Birkenstocks I would view it as a very ominous red flag.

caro

Happiest of birthdays, Clarice, and many, many more.

Cecil Turner

I don't like Clinton but I'm glad Jack was able to get him and Congress to agree to a balanced budget . . .

It was nice to get a (more or less) balanced budget . . . but it's revisionist to claim anyone in the Administration was responsible for it (even though some "fact-checkers" would like to sell it that way). True, they could've torpedoed the effort, and didn't. But most of us remember Clinton shutting down the government to avoid budget cuts in '95-96, and getting force-fed the measures that eventually led to a "surplus."*

*Which was only a surplus if you admit the social security trust fund is an accounting fiction . . . and hence using SS funds to cover the gap in the general fund is Kosher. If you think it's actually money owed, then we never did achieve a surpus under Clinton.

Clarice

Thanks, Caro.

well, yes, Cecil, he certainly wasn't solely responsible for it, but he was tasked with representing that administration in the battle with Congress and they did cut an important deal. (I think Gingrich was more responsible for the balancing of that budget, but that was just one side of the tug of war.)

narciso

No, TK there are many problems with that decision, and succeeding ones, ignorance of basic fact patterns, assuming moot decisions as precedent, however your sources, do not focus on their major issues, but go by mere outrage;

I find the whole theory of law, that Waite and co, practiced in Won Kim et al, is antithetical to what this country should be, casting aspersions at Col. West, who is one of the good guys, also cuts no ice with me,

Clarice

Heh, DoT, but would you consider it sinful vanity?

At the moment my feet adore them and hate my thin soled stylish ferragamos BTW. They're great for old folks toosies.

Cecil Turner

(I think Gingrich was more responsible for the balancing of that budget, but that was just one side of the tug of war.)

More to the point, Gingrich was tugging toward a balanced budget, and the Administration negotiators were tugging the other direction. So to the extent one wants to give credit for the "balanced" part of the budget, that credit goes (almost exclusively) to Gingrich.

boris

"not sure I prefer a competent manager ramrodding a fool's awful policy"

I hope Obama not only fails but crashes and burns also.

It is possible hiring the competent manager means Obama wants to avoid the future I hope for him and is willing (like BJ) to secure a decent legacy in the history books even if that means publicly denying compromise with the enemy while quietly stealing their fiscal policies.

Captain Hate

Yes CT, the budget surplus, like everything else involving Slick, was a huge lie.

Threadkiller

Which decision are you talking about, Narciso?

As far as links that aren't hysterical I provided Eastman, a living breathing conservative Constitutional legal scholar, and his breakdown of WKA, the 14th, birthright citizenship, and ECL.

It went unchallenged so it must pass muster.

boris

"credit goes (almost exclusively) to Gingrich"

If we can say the same about Paul Ryan in a few years ...

narciso

Yes, I was going to say, the same, but Franklin Raines, really 'conjured' up the numbers behind
that deal, practicing the same legerdemain he would excel at Fannie Mae,

Cecil Turner

If we can say the same about Paul Ryan in a few years ...

I'd be very happy. But I don't see much to make me hopeful, and this guy who's apparently okay with Obama's trillion-dollar-deficit-per-year-plan certainly doesn't change that.

Threadkiller

Narciso, you are right about West.

I just found this in his defense:http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2012/nov/20/facebook-posts/viral-post-claims-precinct-allen-west-race-had-900/

When a West supporter, here, first reported this story, I took them at their word and assumed they had fact checked it. They didn't.

My mistake. I am sorry.

narciso

No, politifact's money is no good here, and their excuses don't hold either,

narciso

Yes, each successive 'fix' seems to 'enbiggen'
the problem, in the LUN

Threadkiller

I post a link the exonerates the West campaign from a specious claim. A link that goes entirely in West's favor is dismissed because it is not the right messenger??

Does that mean that you believe that 900 people voted in an area that had only 7 voters and that West did nothing about it?

Up is down around here and my name is mud if I can't even apologize.

Sorry for breaking Sue's rule about departures.

Last post.

There were so many irregularities, in that situation, but to paraphrase Gittes boss, 'it's
St. Lucie, don't try to figure it out'

Gus

I guess we all pretty much agree that Jacob Lew is a very nice competent public servant. Thrifty in fact. A nice man. A religious man.
It boggles the mind that Mr Lew is completely unaware of how dishonest, not thrifty, Jew hating and incompetent Obama is. Let's just say the Mr Lew seems to have a questionable judgement vis a vis Obama's character.

Clarice

I hope not, narciso.

pagar

"took them at their word and assumed they had fact checked it."

As near as I can tell there were no facts to check it against until some one came out with the story that the machine had been used to count precinct 93 and than used to count precinct 85. When did that fact become known? There appear to be no earlier articles shown on Google stating that the machine was used to count some of Precinct 85.

The facts that first came out about the number of voters in Precinct 93 appear to be correct. How much more fact checking could be done when all the info available appears to be controlled by the leftist propaganda spreaders?

narciso

Probably not, but I wzs just struck by that particular example,

Danube of Thought on IPad

Clarice, if vanity is sinful I'm doomed anyway.

Captain Hate

Civility, what an interesting concept

It wasn't that long ago that I'd have been very skeptical about her saying that. This issue must be polling pretty miserably for them.

Jane - Mock the Media!

Chu? Lew? What's the difference. (I had to say it, sorry)

He'd be a fabulous replacement for the numbskull grifter who presently holds that slot.

I'm not sure that is saying a lot given the caliber of the numbskull grifter, but I am happy to hear it nonetheless.

Manuel Transmission

I don't think Noot would have succeeded, either, if it hadn't been for that green eyeshade, Kasich. He's proving it further now in Ahia. Unfortunately, he doesn't have that 'cool' factor, so we we'll never see him in the WH.

DoT, I ran into a guy named Denny Vaughn yesterday.

He's a fellow alumni of yours, though I think he said '63.

Acumen, hacumen, do any of the Democrats want to stop the government from going bankrupt? Or do they assume they'll be able to steal enough in the future?

The enraging thing about it is that it was all foreseeable 30 odd years ago because of demographics, yet nothing significant has been done since the 82 tax increase. Now the changes will have to be extreme.

Danube of Thought on IPad

I think I know Denny--at least I think I know the name but I can't place him.

Danube of Thought on IPad

I haven't seen Eastman on any topic other than the birthright citizenship of children born on US soil to illegal aliens. I don't understand him to be contesting the presidential eligibility of McCain, Obama or Rubio. I am unaware of anything he has ever written or said about the meaning of natural born.

I don't think the question he discusses has ever been adjudicated, and I have little or no interest in it. My guess is that his argument would lose in the Supreme Court, but it wouldn't shock me if it won.

narciso

That's odd, I always heard him on Hewitt, about a whole host of constitutional issues,

Several comments here seem to indicate that Mr. Lew would be putting forth good positions even through he is part of the Obama Regime. I don't think it works like that.

http://www.infiltratednation.com/2012/12/obamas-memo-on-insider-threats.html

If there was any chance that Mr. Lew was not supporting the Obama regime 100%,that would be considered an insider threat and he would not be in the regime, IMO.

"This Presidential Memorandum transmits the National Insider Threat Policy and Minimum Standards for Executive Branch Insider Threat Programs (Minimum Standards) to provide direction and guidance to promote the development of effective insider threat programs within departments and agencies to deter, detect, and mitigate actions by employees who may represent a threat to national security. Jack is Back

Been away for a golf tournament and just now catching up.

But isn't Jack Lew the OMB guy who did not know that tax and spending bills had to originate in the house or maybe it was the number of votes fin the Senate for reconciliation. But I may be wrong about the exact issue and it was on Sunday news show. Maybe Chris Wallace. But everyone was surprised he didn't know his legislative facts.

MarkO

Why is this not repeated every time she appears on a show? "Cokie's dad was the Dem congressman Hale Boggs.

Something like that JiB I remember a Glenn Kessler Pinocchio award to Lew for something like that.

Thanks, Maryrose.

Clarice

Cokie has even deeper ties to the Dems than her father:Cokie Roberts is the third child and youngest daughter of former ambassador and long-time Democratic Congresswoman from Louisiana Lindy Boggs and of the late Hale Boggs, also a Democratic Congressman from Louisiana who was Majority Leader of the House of Representatives. Her sister, the late Barbara Boggs Sigmund, was mayor of Princeton, New Jersey and a candidate for U.S. Senate from New Jersey. Her brother Tommy Boggs is a prominent Washington, D.C. attorney and lobbyist.

I think we should try and make Harry Reid a laughing stock - well he already is one, but he deserves a lot more. He sucks as a leader and he's a liar. So maybe conservatives should pick a target and destroy it.

Spending cuts first!--jimmyk

Several comments here seem to indicate that Mr. Lew would be putting forth good positions even through he is part of the Obama Regime. I don't think it works like that.

He certainly has to be loyal and carry out Obama's wishes. That doesn't preclude him from having a moderating impact or being a helpful negotiator. But I agree that Obama shows no signs of being anything but a dogmatic hard left ideologue. I suspect Lew will find that out and not be effective.

Jack is Back

narciso,

I can. They happened to play a much more superior team. Sometimes its as simple as that.

How about Andrew Luck today winning in the last second. Jim Schwartz is not a good 4th quarter coach and has no killer instinct. But at least Jim (Lockjaw) Harbaugh suffered the indignity of being beaten by the Rams. I wonder if this is the last of the Inked Man experiment?

Jane - Mock the Media!

He certainly has to be loyal and carry out Obama's wishes.

I don't think Obama is smart enough to have a clue whether Lew is doing what he wants or not.

Jack is Back

Clarice,

It was his understanding that it took 60 votes in the Senate to pass a budget.

A faux pas for a budget guy comparable to a guy running for President thinking we have 57 states.

henry

Hmm, Walker slipped this one past me. With all the attention on the collective bargaining, the left is just noticing this now: The Republican-controlled Legislature included the “domestic production tax credit” in the 2011-13 state budget. It applies to production in Wisconsin and on Wisconsin property that’s assessed for manufacturing or agricultural use. Over the next four years, income taxes on these sectors will be reduced to nearly nothing. Alas, no breaks for software -- at least my WI based customers will benefit. : )

pagar

"I don't think Obama is smart enough to have a clue whether Lew is doing what he wants or not."

That's what he has Val Jarrett for.

Jack is Back

Tommy Boggs is the go to guy when you have a Dem administration. Don't know how in he is with the Chicago mob but with Clinton, Patton + Boggs was the cat's meow of lobbying.

Also, Hale Boggs would be a republican congressman from Louisiana if he was alive today. His daughter may be a liberal but he was not and neither was his wife. Tommy is not a liberal or lefty either but a pragmatic center right Democrat who can play both sides of the aisle effectively. Know him well from my time in DC.

Wasn't Cokie's mom eventually the Ambassador to the Vatican?

I don't think Obama is smart enough to have a clue whether Lew is doing what he wants or not.

I agree that Obama is not smart, but in this case he seems more like a petulant teenager who only knows what he wants, not what is right or good for the country, and he seems to feel entitled. I don't see this as ending well.

Boehner seems to be holding firm, but the sad thing is that the Republicans have let the goalposts shift. Even "no tax increase" seems to leave in place the huge Obamacare tax hikes.
