The only thing good about having statist blueprints to read is it has kept tv and radio off.

I am going to pretend it is just another day when the school district is closed.

matt

Funny how we're inaugurating a man who would be anathema to MLK in all but one criterion, and even then, I don't think King would use the man's race as that criterion.

narciso

True, he had an eloquence and courage, regardless of any particular political argument,
when has either applied to Obama

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I missed the inauguration listening to the most sublime music ever written IMO;
Concerto in D Major for Trumpet and Strings by Telemann, Maurice Andre on trumpet.

Maybe I'll add Lupe Fiasco to my playlist. :)

narciso

There were some amusing moments;

The crew on Fox News also recognized the Ryan/Jay-Z shot, with Brit Hume adding, “By the way, she looks stunning!” To which Chris Wallace joked, “Watch out. Brent Musberger got in trouble for that my friend.”

Janet

It is the adoration of Obama by the MFM that gets me. If they showed respect to the office of POTUS consistently, that would be one thing. But after living through the 8 years of disrespect, mocking, & ugliness thrown at President Bush constantly...this adoration just makes me sick.

Danube of Thought iPad

If God announed that someone was going to be shot dead tomorrow, would it be wrong to hope that it was Bob Schieffer?

narciso

Well he is possibly the less foolish of the triumvirate, that includes Williams and 'Thousands of countries' Sawyer.

daddy

Good Morning.

A quick glance at the current first page stories at Lucianne.com tells me the following:

Maureen Dowd on Morning Joe asks the important question "Why Can't Obama Use His ´Super-Brain´to Make Washington Work?

Time Reporter John Meachem thinks that Obama is like Reagan, and that "Obama’s Background Lets Him ‘Think In More Complex Terms,’ ‘Reach More Nuanced Positions’

Matthews agrees he's sorta' like Reagan, but why stop there, then says Obama's speech today was his Gettysburg Address.

Anna Wintour is withdrawing from wanting to be US Ambassador to Britain (so I guess the rode is open to Sarah Jessica Parker:

Both Colin Powell and Condie Rice think the Repub's "have to stop turning off large segments of the population".

Obama's Benediction Reverend thinks Jesus quoted MLKIngs words, not the other way round, and a top Marine General is being booted out because he made his civilian underlings work too hard at their Pentagon desk jobs.

Perhaps I'll go back to bed.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I find Bob Schieffer the most mendacious, nastiest little troll in any of the alphabet "news"rooms.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Was Sarah Jessica Parker photoshopped into that pic or does her head actually detach?
Something doesn't look right.....
besides the two hags I mean.

Rob Crawford
Was Sarah Jessica Parker photoshopped into that pic or does her head actually detach?

Ever since her bit part in The Godfather, her head has been detachable.

marlene

daddy...Howie Carr played the audio of the Maureen Dowd and Jon Meacham quotes. Ugh,I'm still queasy.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--Ever since her bit part in The Godfather, her head has been detachable.--

LOL. I figured it was either that or this;

lyle

I'm studiously avoiding any and all media today. Aversion to really bad porn.

jimmyk

says Obama's speech today was his Gettysburg Address.

I'm guessing that it was a bit more than two minutes long. On the other hand, if Chrissie was referring to "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here," he may be onto something.

narciso

If you like Arab Spring part one, wait there's more, in the LUN

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Could someone please put a gag on Patriot's wives after playoff/Super Bowl losses?
You'd think Welker's Hooters girl would have learned after Gisele ripped Pat's receivers, like Welker for instance, last year.

narciso

Well fine, if that's her opinion, she's entitled to it, however foolish, but retracting seems foolish.

Mark Folkestad

Man Tran, if you check in here, could you tell me if you've heard what happened to a small lodging called The Boathouse on Orcas, up in your area? I've got friends who'd like to book a stay, but their website only has prices posted for the 2010 season, so they're wondering if it went under. No answer to phone calls so far.

You mean some of us have been watching the Imperial Coronation? I'm just going to sit back and wait for the Imperial Civil Security Force to come for my weapons confiscation or liquidation.

hit and run

They told me that if I voted for Mitt Romney, JOM threads would be littered with pictures of the Devil and Horseface, but that only text would accompany stories about a Hooters girl that also references a supermodel. And they were right!

Jane - Mock the Media!

would it be wrong to hope that it was Bob Schieffer?

Oh I can think of a better candidate.

Janet

The parade is on at my house,Ugh! (Father-in-law watching it) At least the sound is off. Thank God for TV Ears!
Anyway...ol' Scranton Joe is really being a buffoon.... I feel sorry for his secret service guy. Can you imagine having to take a bullet for Plugs? Boy, he's really acting stupid. I bet his wife wants to deck him.

Porchlight

Man, I thought this carp was all over earlier in the day. My daughter is at a friend's house and there was talk about "watching the inauguration" when the hangout was scheduled but I angled for an afternoon time thinking it would be over and done with.

Well, hopefully she isn't telling her friend's parents how much her own parents dislike the guy. They're libs but I really like them.

I hope some smart folks are going to be there to take photos of all the garbage on the Mall afterwards.

derwill

--says Obama's speech today was his Gettysburg Address--

Wasn't his speech on gun grabbing that he gave a few days ago supposed to be his Gettysburg Address? It seems like every other speech he gives is said to be his Gettysburg Address by someone or other in the sycophantic, fawning media. Yet all his speeches are like Chinese takeout--thirty minutes later, no one can remember what it was he said. Still, Obama rolls out of bed, farts, and says "Good morning," and the MSM faints over the wonder of it all.

Captain Hate

You'd think Welker's Hooters girl would have learned after Gisele ripped Pat's receivers, like Welker for instance, last year.

I'm not sure how King Roger the Pure can be happy with somebody associated with a double murder being in the Super Bowl. Like it or not, the facts around that act are murky and Ray Lewis wasn't a model citizen in the aftermath.

Janet

Yes, derwill!! Some MFMer did say that about the other speech. Hahahahaa!

This is Obama's most memorable speech line for me - “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.” ~ Barack Hussein Obama Sept. 25, 2012 UN speech

Not too Gettysburgish. :(

Janet

Thank God for TV Ears!

Am I still allowed to say that?...I should probably just thank myself cause I paid taxes that paid for the roads that brought parts to the TV Ears empire.

"— you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." ~ another non-Gettysburgish utterance from Obama.

fdcol63

Bob Schieffer ... indeed, what a nasty little man he is.

My late grandmother (may she rest in peace) could never understand why I thought he was nothing more than a Leftist radical in a suit.

She trusted everything that "nice, sweet-talking, good-looking Southern gentleman" said.

Elliott

CH, I thought I saw a shot of Lewis and Goodell Two Shoes embracing heartily before the playoff game against the Colts. It stirs memories of "the millionaire president of the Amalgamated League of Working Plumbers" quip in the prologue to P.G. Wodehouse's The Coming of Gowf.

Beasts of England

Hey, Sarah - why the long face?

Janet

Evil businesses....
Big Oil.
Big Pharma.
Big TV Ears.
Big Gulp.

Rob Crawford
Still, Obama rolls out of bed, farts, and says "Good morning," and the MSM faints over the wonder of it all.

Of course they faint; they're momentarily cut off from oxygen.

Captain Hate

I'm sure you're correct, Elliott; King Roger often acts in capricious ways. They should've never promoted him out of the mailroom.

Beasts of England

Capt. Hate@4:32 - Agreed. Watched a segment about Lewis' rehabilitation and leadership qualities. Well, that's fine and dandy, but what about the two dead bodies, as you so noted. While I believe a leopard can occasionally change his spots, I still question both Lewis' sincerity and his presence on the field. Ugh.

Janet

Oldie but goodie -
Schieffer nagging Boehner about smoking on national TV.

One thing in the exchange is that Schieffer throws out "the leading cause of preventable deaths". Does that include ABORTION?

and then there is this exchange -
Boehner: "...But the American people ought to have the right to make those decisions on their own."

SCHIEFFER: "Well, I mean, they have a right to shoot themselves if they choose to."

Hah! A right to shoot! That's rich!

Last is this - "But something Schieffer didn't mention was that in 2008, Obama took more money from the tobacco industry than Boehner did.

Yet, according to LexisNexis, Schieffer has never scolded Obama for his smoking or asked him to quit in order to "set a good example.""

maryrose

Rob Crawford:
You get the comment of the day award again! You really crack me up!

maryrose

derwill; I liked your comment also because it is so true. I keep waiting for the great realization to hit:
"He's not very smart and he is a liar" Of course nothing can top Gus's Obama is getting --it-canned in November. Ah the sweet memories. I'd like to turn the clock back about 5 months.

narciso

A little too much egotism, it could have very well turned out the other way;

http://connecticut.cbslocal.com/2013/01/21/suggs-goes-on-expletive-laden-tirade-against-pats-following-ravens-win/

Janet

from March 2010 -

"Obama promised Michelle when he embarked on his campaign to become president he would quit; at the time he said he was smoking about eight a day.

He told reporters last year he had quit but still had an occasional cigarette, without specifying how many."

That always cracked me up. He quit but still smoked. That's how I quit too. In fact I'm quitting while I'm typing this....(excuse me while I empty my ash tray).

Beasts of England

I can't imagine Obama giving the Gettysburg Address. Pretty sure it would be impossible for him to give a speech of any length which didn't include the first-person pronoun (I) or several reminders that he was the President...

daddy

This is Ms Welker, who is upset about Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Raven's being a bad role model for todays yute's:

IMO, John Boehner is far too close to the Obamas to be an opposition leader.

Frau Aussenpolitik

“Obama‘s vision for America,” he added, is “essentially urban.”

No one gave voters outside the handout community a compelling reason to show up in November, according to Charlie Gerow, a Harrisburg-based media consultant who judged the Farm Show‘s fudge contest.

From one of narciso's earlier links. Oh, fudge! I forget which one.

bio mom

Tom Brady is no great role model either. Left his pregnant girlfriend for a Supermodel. Has a child out of wedlock. As for Lewis, he is all right with the law. I leave further judgments to God.

derwill

I think they keep trying to convince us that whatever his latest speech is, it is "his Gettysburg Address" because they need to point to something that would validate their worship of him, and there is precious little out there beyond "he won". And even that was accomplished by successfully branding Romney as an evil rich, murdering tax cheat who was going to take away women's tampons, rather than by his campaigning on any actual accomplishments, because there was none.

We were supposed to be living in a socialist utopia by now, instead there are more people on SS disability, more people on food stamps, more children living below the poverty level, and fewer people with jobs then ever before. And those ever dwindling people who do still have jobs are getting their hours cut and losing their medical insurance because of Obamacare. The national debt is swallowing the economy and Al Queda is not dead, but Americans in Africa are.

It's kind of hard to keep insisting your Messiah is walking on water, when he keeps getting his feet stuck in the mud. But as long as they keep showing him only from the waist up, they can go on fooling the useful idiots awhile longer, I suppose.

Old Lurker

Pagar's 5:27 link reveals table manners so poor my mother would have banished me from the dinner party had I behaved thus, whether as a child or as an adult. With this First Lady I have never been so proud....never mind.

Janet

There are some Indians dancing in the parade now...is that...could it be!?....Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts?!!!

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--A) Gisele:

B) Anna Burns Welker--

Gisele does about as much for me as any other six foot tall, blonde lizard; nada.

Janet

Speaking of Obama smoking...
Obama is chewing gum like crazy in the observation booth....I bet he's pretty antsy for this parade to be over.
Barack Black Eagle needs a smoke.

marlene

LOL Janet!

narciso

Gisele's time has long past, I think that was one of Janet's link, Frau, from Salema Zito. of the the Pittsburgh tribune,

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I didn't mean to say Ray Lewis was anything to write home about, Cap.
The more guys like him yap about how much God has chosen them to do this, that and the other while he's got six different kids by four different women, none of whom he deigned to marry, and managed to do the only thing more disreputable than being in on a double homicide, snitching on your pals to avoid a serious sentence, the more I suspect there aint a sincere bone in his body.
I hope he has truly changed but I fear he is like so many alumni of that great engine of student-athletes criminals, The U of Miami; a bum.

Jim Miller

Don't you wish you know what joke Boehner told Obama to get that reaction from Michelle? Note that Barack seemed to like it.

(I don't give her a bad mark for the eye roll, since that is a traditional way for wives to object to jokes -- but I do lower her grade for the shoveling, and the the failure to make eye contact with Boehner.)

marlene

pagar's 5:27 link also shows a glass of red wine at Boehner's place setting, which probably got him through lunch without crying.

Danube of Thought iPad

Is there video of the food-shoveling eyeroll?

Janet

Is there gonna be any Mongolian-American acts in the parade?...Maybe this diss was too much for them -

How Obama got reelected is beyond me.

Danube of Thought iPad

I've grown mighty weary of Ray's dance.

Captain Hate

One positive thing I'll say for Ray Lewis: He has great linebacker technique. A few years ago I saw him get absolutely trucked when he tried to blow up a play and got knocked on his caboose. I thought it was game over for him and he'd be out of the league shortly; but he has great fundamentals to fall back on and plays really really smart.

Lawmakers call House Republicans' 'no budget, no pay' plan 'unconstitutional'

I initially thought this was a dumb idea, but a constitutional battle would certainly increase public awareness that there hasn't been a budget in four years. Losing the legal fight would still have that effect, so it might be a smart idea after all.

centralcal

I'm with O.L. and that video of Michelle stuffing the food in her face. Not an ounce of grace in that woman. And, is her left arm resting on the table while she shovels it in with her right hand?

One of the fellas in comments this weekend said (of her new banged hairdo) that she looks like a black (and rather homely) male actor, but I can't remember which one? Anybody remember who?

Janet

Here's the best (worst) Obama gum chewing video. The first 30 seconds is all you have to watch. It is painful.

clarice feldman

I am in Fla , Narciso..I'll be back home soon.

anyone catch Boris Johnson's column in the Telly today? "It's snowing and it feels like a mini-Ice Age". LUN

He cites dissident astrophysicist Piers Corbyn, who notes that solar activity is in a lull which might maybe possibly sort of kind of affect the temperatures because after all global warming is caused by the sun. Nothing like a little logic from an astrophysicist. That's hard, astrophysics.

In comparison, Boris notes that Chinese and American scientists think the drops in temperatures in some parts of the world may be affected by huge chunks of ice cooling the Atlantic in what he refers to as the martini effect. Quite droll.

narciso

That is possibly the most pigheaded defense since Hastert defended 'Cool Bill' Jefferson with the immunity clause, it's designed to prevent a pay raise, sheesh.

I initially thought this was a dumb idea, but a constitutional battle would certainly increase public awareness that there hasn't been a budget in four years. Losing the legal fight would still have that effect, so it might be a smart idea after all.

Losing the court fight -- if the matter were reported accurately -- could have an invigorating effect. "Wait, you mean the law says they have to pass a budget and they haven't for the last four, five years?! And they went to court to fight to be paid despite not doing their job?!!"

Diane "Stretch" Sawyer will have to visit her cosmetic surgeon shortly over just how happy she is on this historic day. Orwell's body must be redlining.

Frau Aussenpolitik

Thanks, narciso @6:10. I read so many of yours, I just figured it had to be yours again.

Old Lurker

Yes CC I do think that left arm is on the table as she shovels the food into her overfilled cheeks.

Truthfully my thought was how embarrassed her teen age daughters must be since their time in the homes of their Sidwell classmates probably have shown them more proper table manners than apparently they get at home.

It seems pretty easy to produce high-capacity magazines with 3D printers.

Frau Aussenpolitik

Levin via Breitbart sez "Fight."

“I don’t think Obama knows exactly what he’s going to go for in his second term,” Levin said, "as he will look for opportunities to exploit as events unfold. I am sure they've drawn up a partial a list, and we already know that it includes, but is not limited to, gun control; attacks on the First Amendment such as religious liberty; amnesty for illegal aliens; union expansion; institutionalizing Obamacare; institutionalizing voter corruption; de-industrialization via the EPA; destroying the capitalist-based economy via tax increases, smothering regulations, massive deficit spending, and endless borrowing; and hollowing out our military; etc. This will effect all of us. It will do extreme damage to the nation in many respects. I think Obama sees himself as correcting historic wrongs in this country, as delivering the fruits of the labor of other people to people who he believes have historically been put upon. I think there’s a lot of perverse thinking that goes on in his mind, radical left-wing thinking. He was indoctrinated with Marx and Alinksy propaganda. You not only see it in his agenda but in his words -- class warfare; degrading successful people unless, of course, they help finance his elections, causes, and organizations; pretending to speak for the so-called middle class when, in fact, he is destroying their jobs, savings, and future. Obama's war on our society is intended to be an onslaught in which the system is overwhelmed.”

No, I think it was Samuel L. Jackson, Ralph L. Except even he is better looking than Michelle.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I'm willing to give Michelle a pass on the eye rolling since Boehner may have been wise assing, which the tap to her arm might indicate, but her left arm across the table is like etiquette 101 in kindergarten.
