Foxfire adherents are going to be very upset.

Speaking of Pressure cookers...

Humpless in Dubai?

On Channel 14 this morning I am watching Live Camel races.

They run on a very long oval dirt track, without human jockeys, between 2 roads on which cars ride next to the racing camels so they can share in the action up close. In slow motion shots It looks like where there should be a jockey there is a small thing in different colors which almost looks like a miniature monkey, and projecting from the right side of that petrified monkey thing is some sort of device that spins a short chord which whips the right rear haunch of the racing camel, encouraging speed.

The broadcast has some constantly repeating background musical refrain sung by a male chorus, that is as far from melodic to my ear as possible, and the announcer, like a standard racing announcer, is blathering a mile a minute in guttural exclamations.

They appear to be at most 1 hump dromedaries, but because of the petrified monkey robot covering the dromedaries back, they may actually be humpless.

OMMAG

Exactly what I was thinking ..... after watching a program on how pressure cookers are manufactured.

What's with all the "brainwashing"? The wife was brainwashed, the younger brother was brainwashed. No one is responsible for their actions anymore, apparently.

Does this mean the JEF can finally send those Newtown props home along with Saint Gabby and her publicity hungry husband?

Chuck Schumer was on the local news decrying air traffic delays caused by the sequester. He expects them to double, so the sequester needs to be removed.

Nothing about how small the sequester was, that it reduced increases in spending, or that it could have been applied to other FAA spending.

In other words, the Talking Points are out. Look at this squirrel instead of our gun-grab failure.

sbw-that explains why the Cox channel was making it the lead on the 11 news.

jimmy-I have one of those books that I am not supposed to have read that does admit that too many people equate brainwashing with Russian style confessions. When the preferred form is the Chinese ability to reframe the orienting conceptual system. Under that definition I would argue that is exactly what too many colleges and grad schools already do. And as soon as I get the Diva off to school I am going to use a 1997 American Psychologist article by the PIs on Understandings of Consequence. It says that CORE stands for Cognitive Reorganization and explains precisely how. And the next year the NSF grants started.

Again not the govt's job but you can see why the NYT came out so aggressively about the Common Core state standards. Below the surface it becomes the means of everything any Leftist ever sought to do via education.

We need some kind of televised infomercial that tells us what the immigration laws are right now. What are ALL the "legal" programs that let foreigners into the US? Over-the-border illegal immigrants are only one of the problems.
The Boston terrorists show the problems with "legal" entry programs...as do Aunt Zeituni & Uncle Drunk.
Granting amnesty & writing more laws won't fix anything. These loser politicians can't even enforce the laws we already have.

Quite remarkable, really: a mass murder occurs, and this guy's only concern seems to be identifying unnamed Americans who are morally inferior to him. I think if Sirota didn't exist it would be useful to invent him.

cathyf

When I first read Clarice's description of using a pressure cooker to make risotto, I must say that my first thought was that we should have background checks for buying those spawn-of-evil devices! Asource close to the investigation revealed that Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi had been deemed inadmissible under the section of the Immigration and Nationality Act which declares ineligible for a visa – any alien who is engaged in or is likely to engage after entry – in terrorist activity."

Will we now be told that this is likely to increase calls for tougher immigration laws?

NK

Newton sockpuppets... now that the Gunz thing is over for a while, those sockpuppets get thrown to the bottom of the JEF toy bin... and if Gunz get hot again because of a new gun massacre, they'll be supplanted by different sockpuppets from that calamity. JEF is a souless bastard that way.

Walter

Way off topic and self-promotional: my youngest is going to Global Finals! His fourth- and fifth-grade team designed and built a structure that weighed less than six ounces and held hundreds of pounds while being subjected to repeated torque impacts.*

The organization, Destination Imagination, is a bit of an odd duck, but it was fun to see the kids work things out on their own. Frustrating, because we adults were not able to offer suggestions or advice, but neat to see them try different ideas. We're trolling for likes and tax-deductible contributions (most of the other kids come from families with limited means).

Like us at www.facebook.com/GoGargoyles for more information.

If anyone has done this before, or has recommendations for Knoxville in May, drop me a message.

Cecil Turner

Will we now be told that this is likely to increase calls for tougher immigration laws?

A solution that addresses the actual problem? Naah . . . too sensible.

Obviously it illustrates a need for ending the sequester (to allow more funding for FBI background checks), or gun control, or relaxed immigration laws (to address "root causes") or whatever other liberal cause du jour the crisis whores glom onto.

Rick Ballard

"Will we now be told that this is likely to increase calls for tougher immigration laws?"

It's far more likely we will see calls for increased benefits to imported Mahometan vipers in the hope of decreasing the volume of venom in their bites.

The budget for DHS immigration will have to be increased. After all, the goal is to double immigration to 2 million per year to make up for the overshoot in American babies sacrificed in Planned Genocide Death Huts.

Absolutely no questions will be tolerated regarding the pathetic performance of Butch in enforcing current immigration laws and no questions will be taken regarding the advisability of dumping another million people into a workforce which is steadily shrinking due to Americans giving up hope of finding a job.

On the discussion of a Miranda warning, how about something like this?

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. It probably won't be, though -- we've got enough evidence to send you to the electric chair even if you don't say another word for the rest of your short life. But, of course, while your final end is determined, there is still what happens to you between now and then. If you choose to cooperate fully with us we will house you in your own cell on death row before we fry you. If you choose to remain silent, we'll put you in with the general prison population. It's amazing just how many hardened felons are pretty patriotic guys, and like to take initiative. And then there are the ones who like boys with dark curly hair and long eyelashes...

Neo

... law requiring registration and background checks for pressure cookers? No pesky Second Amendment issue there!

I have to object!

If the Boston bombing and police state action did anything, it schooled Americans as to what are now considered common militia arms.
They now include, but are not limited to:
1) assault weapons with large capacity clips (we saw plenty of them in Boston). Now include automatic as well as semi-auto.
2) FLIR imagers (every helicopter should have one)

Pressure cooker (which have a long history of not being controlled) bombs seem to have some status, at least according to the press, of having some common usage, should probably be included in this list of militia arms.

News you can use.

From the NYT article on possible additional attacks by the bombers:

But the administration has said terrorism suspects arrested inside the United States should be handled exclusively in the criminal justice system, and gave no sign it intends to do otherwise in Mr. Tsarnaev’s case. Moreover, there is no evidence suggesting that he is part of Al Qaeda; the United States is engaged in an armed conflict with Al Qaeda, not all Muslim extremists.

Good to know we were not in armed conflict with them. Imagine the casualties if we had been.

And for AliceH, they apparently used a BB gun in the shootout in which the older brother was killed. Best buy your new gun while you can. No word yet on how many of the 80 rounds they fired against police came from that gun.

Ignatz

--The fool Sirota is doubling down at Salon; this timehe's claiming that many Americans are glad the bombers were Mahometans.--

I have no doubt he is correct, just as many Americans would have been glad if the bomber had been some white supremacist or anti government fanatic.

The shameful thing is not, once a bombing occurs that no one sane wishes had occurred, that one hopes it is a Musselman so that our country can be woken up to the fact that they are and continue to be a serious and murderous threat to us, but that left wing Americans hope it is some maniac fellow Americans so they can use the bombing to blame and stifle their mainstream political enemies who have nothing to do with the bomber or their political ideology.

Appalled

Janet:

If nobody has read the immigration bill, what makes you think anyone has read the immigration law?

The goal you guys have of slowing the immigration bill down so that it gets talked about is right and proper. The immigration system does not work as intended -- which is a worthy reason for there to be Congressional interest and legislation.

But the question is -- why is the law not working as intended? A conspiracy? Incompetence? Or a law that inspires people to defiance?

Ignatz

Odd bit of logic there.

They seem to consider themselves at war with us.

Ignatz

The vast majority of the people in communist countries didn't particulary ascribe to the ideology and even those who did seldom wanted to spend their countries into bankruptcy exporting it around the globe.

It was a committed and virulent core that took the ideology seriously and caused all the trouble and yet we never went out of our way to describe the Cold War as a war against radical communists or communist extremists.

Communism itself is extreme. Why must we apply a different standard to an extreme ideology which has spent about 1400 more years extremely and radically murdering its enemies around the globe than communism has?

Question of the day:
Should all arms used by police forces be considered 'militia arms,' and therefore covered by the 2nd Amendment ?

Cecil Turner

I have no doubt he is correct, just as many Americans would have been glad if the bomber had been some white supremacist or anti government fanatic.

The funny thing is that he'd obviously rather think murderous thoughts of his domestic political opponents than of foreign wartime enemies (or their catspaws). And he apparently considers this an occasion for moral preening, so I'd guess he thinks it demonstrates his moral superiority. Why, exactly, is a deeper question.

Rick Ballard

Maryrose,

It's a bit more complicated (or simple) than that. A cursory study of internal emigration/immigration numbers will reveal Americans continuing to flee Blue Hells for Free States at an increasing rate. The Bluest Hells (definitely including New York, California and Illinois) are barely able to avoid losing their apportioned share of revenue from Uncle Sugar by dragging in foreigners to replace fleeing Americans who don't care to live in cesspools. The fact that the Progressive American Genocide Project has had its greatest success in Blue Hell cesspools exacerbates the Democrat political power dilemma.

Posted by: Appalled | April 22, 2013 at 11:27 AM--

Don't all laws which people intend to break inspire people to defy them?
If we refuse to build a fence, refuse to fund enough border patrol agents, refuse to enforce the use of e verify, refuse to impose penalties on employers who knowingly hire illegals, make little effort to deport illegals we catch, demand that illegals be given welfare and health benefits and, perhaps worst of all, bestow citizenship on the child of illegals it seems to me the laws are working exactly as DC intends them to work.

Neo

Extra credit question:
If a poor stupid Chechen or Nicaraguan pleasant can have an AK-47 with grenade launcher, why can't a US citizen ?

After all, these peasants don't have a 2nd amendment protecting their rights.

Walter

Neo, we had to settle for spray cans in the bonfire when i was a Scout--I seem to remember getting more trouble than approbation To be fair, we did learn to clear out spiders with Improvised flamethrowers at that camp, so it wasn't a total loss.

matt

Iggy;

You just put your finger on it right there. Since the Benghazi attachers were't wearing their Al Q'aeda windbreakers and weren't chanting the Al Q'aeda fight song, they were of no interest to our government. We have more important things to do of course.

As to immigration, appaled, it's all three. It's a Left that wants another enlarged constituency; it's the sheer incompetence of our government; and it is an enforcement system that inspires illegals to overstay their visas and cross the border and defy the system, sort of like the guy last week who mocked the ICE agents.

AliceH

--it seems to me the laws are working exactly as DC intends them to work.--

yeah. that.

rse

Well it's a good thing then Rick that this administration feels for those blue states and plans to use federal revenue sharing to keep equity among regions. No need to fix what is wrong with Detroit or Chicago or Cleveland or California. The booming areas of the SE and Texas will gladly pay to make all equitable.

Speaking of which today's post sees Green Growth like Solyndra and the Common Core and digital literacy as modern day examples of spoliation. Plunder directed by the state. http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/viewing-a-core-decree-cognitive-reorganization-for-all-students-as-modern-day-spoliation/

CORE stands for Cognitive Reorganization. Just what you want your tax dollars doing.

And I still think Rubio was carrying Jeb's message on immigration. In showing loyalty he also undid himself as a potential rival in 2016 as the Tea Party representative.

Appalled

Ignatz:

Society -- because the people you are talking about are a large part of what makes up society -- works against enforcing the laws that government imposes on it.

Sounds like fairly mass defiance to me. And I believe it is, in part, inspired by a belief the laws are foolish, draconian, or arbitrary.

Hence, inspired.

The thing I think Conservatives overestimate is any willingness by anybody to enforce the laws as they are currently written. Which, I think, limits the "just enforce the laws" tactic you all have, to more of the same.
