NK(tryin' again)

Ranger/Tom M-- great minds... Ranger anticipated Tom's posting with a comment in the Sunday Thread. I repost my 2 replies to Ranger's comment:

"Dr. Siegel hoped that ObummerCare exchanges would get his Third World staffed clinics out of MediCaid reimbursement into a higher fee schedule... sorry Doc, all you get from ObummerCare is more Medicaid customer volume, your rates will still be below commercial viability.

Tom M-- speaking of Sunday-- your Yanks and Football Giants both ended their respective post-season chances on the same Sunday. Congrats, more time with the family for you this Autumn!"

Danube of Thought

They know what's best for us. Don't argue with them; just be grateful to them.

The message is very succinct: Don't get sick.

And if you do, please die quickly or get well quickly.

But by getting well instead of dying allows you to get sick again and we wouldn't want that because there will be no doctors outside of Bangladesh and Uganda that can treat you.

NK(tryin' again)

Speaking of sports-- I was driving between referee assignments yesterday and I listened to a meaningless Mets game, with them 13 games under .500. As such the excellent Mets radio commentators (they are excellent) drifted from the game and they talked ice cream, like The Turkey Hill available in Philly stadium and the food available on their next road stop in Cincy. RobC and anyone else around Cincy, what's your take on 'Raders(?)' ice cream? one of the commentators hailed it as one of America's best, especially the Black Rasberry-Chip. he also said he was looking forward to deep fried 'Twinkees'.. I never heard of that. BTW the commentator is about 60 and he had Triple Bypass about 10 years ago, I hope his cardiologist wasn't listening.

Thomas Collins

Don't write off the Football Giants yet, NK. They are only one game behind the supposed 49er juggernaut.

Thomas Collins

I don't see why consumer advocates are concerned. O-Care is shaping up to be similar in effect to other state diktat health care schemes. The "right" to health care does not necessarily mean access to better health care.

4JIB2

NK,

It's Graeter's Ice Cream and it is the best ice cream I have ever eaten. Now I could be wrong about this but someone once told me that it had like twice the butter-fat of milk (almost like heavy cream) as its main ingredient. Through-out Cincy there are Graeter Ice Cream parlors. After eating a 5 or 6 way Cincy Chili its the place to stop for a sundae or cone.

NK(tryin' again)

ThomasC-- if I heard correctly on sportstalk driving to the train station this morning, the last time an 0-3 team in the current NFL playoff format made the Playoffs was 1998. The odds don't favor it, and the Giants really look worse than an 0-3 team.

NK(tryin' again)

'Graeter' ice cream got it; well Ed Coleman agrees it's the best he's ever had.

" hospitals that provide high-quality care."

If anyone thinks that layoffs at hospitals are going to result in the same high-quality care they were giving before the Obamascare mess hit them, I suggest they are dreaming.

IMO, the entire purpose of Obamacare is to make sure that American hospital care is no longer exceptional.

James D.

The Giants are horrible, and there is no hope whatsoever this season. The offensive line is putrid, and that's being generous. The defense is awful.

I love Tom Coughlin, and I think you'd have to search far and wide to find a better human being than him...but I think the team has tuned out his motivational tactics once and for all (if they couldn't be bothered to rally behind him during the week that his brother suddenly died in an accident, they never will again). And both the offensive and defensive coordinators need to go, ASAP.

It's going to be a long and unpleasant season.

Old Lurker test

I just want Hopkins & Mayo to get crackin on a new facility in Nassau or Bermuda. Next door to a Four Seasons or a Ritz would be nice.

NK(tryin' again)

It won't be Bermuda, RE is too expnsive, and the gov't there will want its piece. Bahamas or Cuba (post castro) would be my guess-- Sloan Kettering will be on that list too.

Random historical musings...

Today is the feast day of

Saint Adomnan of Iona (627/8 - 704)
(His name is written as Adamnan or Adomnan and anglicised as Eunan). He was educated by the Columban monks of his native place, subsequently becoming a novice at Iona in 650. In 679 he succeeded to the abbacy of Iona, which position he held up to his death. He was also president-general of all the Columban houses in Ireland. During his rule he paid three lengthy visits to Ireland, one of which is memorable for his success in introducing the Roman dating and celebration of Easter. On his third visit (697) he assisted at the Synod of Tara, when the Cain Adamnain, or Canon of Adamnan (the “Law of Innocents”) was adopted, which freed women and children from the evils inseparable from war, forbidding them to be killed or made captive in times of strife. He is famous for his Life of St Columba, written some time after 688, which has been praised as the best and most complete biography written in Europe for many centuries.
Even when the Scots were still painting their faces blue they were civilized enough to know to be ashamed to make war on women and children. As opposed to The Religion Of Peace, Backwards Savages From the Very Beginning...

And now, the truth can be told:

Revealed: Obama came up with ObamaCare because he needed a throwaway applause line in a campaign speech

http://hotair.com/archives/2013/09/23/revealed-obama-came-up-with-obamacare-because-he-needed-a-throwaway-applause-line-in-a-campaign-speech/

I think this is worth discussing:

Exit question: How is it that this story about the genesis of O-Care has never been reported before?

My answer is that I suspect, deep down, there are quite a few red state Dems who are dying for ObamaCare to go away forever, because they know if it goes into operation, they will never have a chance to be re-elected again.

BTW, this is exactly why Cruz's play is so dangerous for the Dems. What Cruz is forcing Dems to do is vote yes on ObamaCare all over again. Cruz has managed to put every red state Dem in a lose/lose situation. Either vote for ObamaCare, and face the wrath of the voters, or vote against it, and face the wrath of the left.

4JIB2

As I understand it, the latest debate tactic among the Democrat chattering class of political wingnuts is to point out that Obamacare is nothing more than a 1999 Republican plan with a touch of Romneycare thrown in. So, why are they now so desperate to destroy this legislation they were for before they were against it.

Tag line being: What's the difference now? Could it be a black president?

I call bullshit. When we get to the system where you only get medical care if you did not post anti-regime thoughts on Facebook, AND did not show up in any Tea Party investigations at the IRS, AND the NSA vouches that your emails, texts, and phone calls had no anti-regime sentiments, those states will go Blue Hell in an instant.

Look at Chicago -- once you give them control, there is no way to get rid of them. Detroit is an example of the only way crony-crat rule ever ends -- but that's because their rule is limited to the geographical bounds of the city itself. The IRS, NSA and Facebook cover the whole country.

Funny that the markets are acting as markets, isn't it, Mr. Obama? The insurance companies will research and avoid any and all additional costs that they can.

The Left is determined to try and blame this fiasco on the repubs. Lucky for us they have no place to hide. Obama is angry because once again all his lies about his unworkable HC plan are being revealed to everyone. Even the LIV's are gradually becoming aware of the utter fiasco this law has become. We must continue to emphasize the people getting the waivers. Every single day the unfairness should be mentioned. Every Fox news program and every repub should be screaming how unfair it is to average Americans. Most people hate being a sucker and abhor falling for a scheme that they had nothing to do with at the time of its implementation.

MarkO

"I call bullshit."
I see that, and raise you horseshit.

Obamacare, once the goodies are distributed, will "fundamentally transform" politics to the advantage of the Democrats.

DOOM.

Ranger

MarkO,

In this case, I disagree. The individual LIVs never see the "goodies". All they know is that they have to buy insurance, and it's an extra chunk of money coming out of their pockets. Oh, and they got their hours cut back at work, so they have even less money to pay that new health insurance bill with.

Absolutely. They know to a certainty that it's universal, wonderful and best of all, free.

They cloak it in high-minded sounding bullshit like social justice and fairness and looking out for the least among us but in fact it all boils down to the inescapable fact that leftists are the cheapest, greediest sons of bitches on the planet. Period.

Janet, NP. CBS.com has last year's final 2 episodes for viewing online. (For some reason POI is not usually available online unless you find a pirated upload)

MarkO

"Where could I go wrong?"

maryrose,

For some people, getting things for free is common sense.

Ignatz

I'm not saying they don't exist, but does anyone here know a truly generous leftist?

And by generous I mean with their own money for genuine charity, not some foundation set up to avoid taxes and named after themselves, and not generosity with advice or other people's money or even their time. As materialists it always seems to come down to their own cold, hard cash.

Similar to the apocryphal gun owner you'll get a leftist's money when you pry it from his cold, dead fingers.

NK(tryin' again)

"Know sincerely generous Lefties"--- I know a good number of them. Bright, hardworking, religiously pious and generous in spirit and material support for the poor and disabled. Some are apolitical, the ones who are political believe society should enforce their level of charitable support on others by higher taxes and transfer payments.

MarkO

Progressives worship order. Order is the enemy of freedom. Freedom is the energy of generosity.

Clarice

Right in line with yesterday's column--Ninety-two percent of Americans are angry that Congress has exempted itself from Obamacare:http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/canary-coal-mine_756591.html

I'm trying to figure out what an apolitical leftist is.

Ranger

the ones who are political believe society should enforce their level of charitable support on others by higher taxes and transfer payments.

Then they have obviously missed the point that it's only charity if it's voluntary. If it's not voluntary, then it is simply theft. It may be theft for a noble purpose, but it is still theft.

matt

adding another layer of costs to any enterprise is usually highly inefficient. This is what has been done with medical care. Now we have the insurance companies taking their cut as well as the government.

Government bureaucracy is usually considered the most inefficient part of our society. It is typically overstaffed, underworked, and sluggish.

So why is it a good thing to involve government even more deeply in the most expensive sector of the economy?

Old Lurker test

NK(tryin' again)

"Apolitical Leftist?".. sure, there are some, such as very devout Catholics, New Ageists, secular humanist do-gooders, who don't use government means for their charitable ends.

matt

wouldn't that be a 'bivalent Episcopalian? Most Episcopalians I know these days are pretty ambivalent.

jimmyk

adding another layer of costs to any enterprise is usually highly inefficient.

If it's in a free market, it generally serves a valid, cost-saving purpose. The insurance companies ought to be the gatekeepers to keep subscribers from overusing medical services. They also provide information, and policies tailored to individual needs. Of course the government has messed up the system in a lot of ways already, such as mandatory treatment requirements, etc. But this is a point lost on all the single-payer advocates, who love to cite meaningless numbers about the share of administrative costs under Medicare. Well, one of many points.

MarkO

Iggy,

For the exact reason we have a 2nd Amendment right. If they let people own guns, they'd have to be real careful on how they governed.

Obama understands this so well he never misses an opportunity to demonize gun ownership on moral grounds (translation: not your morals but saving my lack of morals).

Barack Obama

"Did you know it's illegal to own a gun in Kenya unless..."

Yes, yes I did. There are those who say no one anywhere should have a gun, and there are those who claim that everyone everywhere should be forced to own a gun and carry it with them at all times, and settle all disputes by at least brandishing, if not actually firing that gun.

I reject these false choices. I propose a middle way. A sensible way. A way I think all reasonable people everywhere would agree with. We should be more like Kenya. Forward!

What do you do with people who have no legal right to stay here, but nowhere safe to go?
