TexasIsHeaven

Still on his feet - I don't know how much good this effort is going to accomplish - but if it pisses off Harry Reid more power to him. God bless Ted Cruz and God bless the great state of Texas. As for the back-biting weasel John Cornyn - hope you are ready to retire.

DublinDave

Wow-Reid just humiliated Cruz by confusing him in front of all his colleagues. Sheesh Harry....that was a little asshole-ish.

Cruz falling apart.

Extraneus

Didn't you say he was going to fall apart at 11:30 last night?

NK(tryin' again)

.. or 6:30 last night.

Jane

The only one I saw falling apart was Harry Reid. Ya have to feel sorry for someone who is forced to support that Dick.

NK(tryin' again)

Jane decides not to put too fine a point on characterizing H. Reid. Jane describes Reid perfectly, not subtle, but perfect...

TexasIsHeaven

Senator Ted Cruz has integrity and honor - two character traits Harry Reid has never been acquainted with or known.

Harry Reid knows this how destructive the helath care bill is to the middle class and the poor - he just doesn't care.

TexasIsHeaven

helath = health

too damn mad to spell this morning

Danube of Thought

A fully funded and utterly dysfunctional Obamacare will be the single most intense issue in the 2014 and 2016 elections.

cathyf

I think what is clear is that the health care bill is incredibly destructive to sick people. It is very possible that the government, if it doesn't have more than it's typical screw-up ratio, will be able to deliver NO health care for a lower price than the private market has been delivering AMAZING health care.

Threadkiller

It will get repaired with Single Payer, Danube.

That is what the Dems will promise to LIVs.

Danube of Thought

That is what the Dems will promise to LIVs.

I think it's a loser. Pie-in-the-sky promises from Democrats about health care are going to be a very tough sell for quite a while. And the UK's experience with its single-payer system would be a target-rich environment for the education of the LIV.

Danube of Thought

Breitbart:

On Morning Joe, Chris Matthews made a stunning admission. At the conclusion of a discussion about the Cruz "filibuster", Matthews said that Cruz was playing to his crowd. He went on to say:

We all know this country is balkanized..and he's playing to that 20%-30%...they're there and they are rooting for him...Harry Reid doesn't have 30% of the country behind him." Mika and Joe agreed.

NK(tryin' again)

I am not as sanguine as DoT on the ObamaCare fail approach. The voters we conservatives need to win, LiV, but persuadable ones who have a job and are responsible, don't want to see private insurance or ObummerCare fail, they want to be able to go to the Dr and pay for perscriptions at affordable prices. the Big Insurers figured this out at least 15 years ago, get people out of expensive hospitals, make copays expensive enough to limit elective 'freebie'unnecessary care, but keep people in the system. So helping ObummerCare fail has unpredictable outcomes, and I think the lying Progs and media (same thing) will be able to prey on LiVs and the most likely result of ObummerCare fail is SinglePayer-- as a 'temporary emergency measure'.

Thomas Collins

Good start. Next up: Roll call vote. Next up: Boehner and Cantor offering a debt limit compromise agreeing to raise the debt limit in return for repeal of the special subsidy for Congress and its staff, repeal of the tax on medical devices and delay of the individual mandate until the employer mandate goes into effect. If the GOP plays the game that way, it will set the stage for the 2014 election. Of the three I mentioned, the repeal of the special subsidy is the most important. If the GOP stands firm on that and the Dems resist, Dem poll numbers will plummet.

I realize that repeal of the special subsidy is the one that is most difficult for the GOP to stand firm on, because so many GOP Senators and Repcritters think the special subsidy is just fine. To me, standing firm on subsidy repeal is a test on whether the GOP House and Senate leadership is serious.

Clarice

All the special exemptions should be on the cutting board. Most of them were just granted by Obamafiat anyway.

Danube of Thought

I agree with TC.

Dylan Byers in Politico:

Sen. Ted Cruz has been speaking on the Senate floor for almost 19 hours, as of this post. The talk is not technically a filibuster — he can't actually block the Senate from going about its business — but symbolically, it's more or less the same thing. The point is to show one's opposition to something through a demonstration of physical will.

Which is why you can forgive conservatives for being upset with the mainstream media's coverage of the Cruz affair. When a Democrat like Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis filibusters against abortion restrictions, she is elevated to hero status, her tennis shoes become totems. When Cruz grandstands against Obamacare, he is a laughingstock in the eyes of many journalists on Twitter, an "embarrassment" in the eyes of The New York Times editorial board.

Threadkiller

Last year it was the consensus that Mitt Romney's statement about the people receiving handouts, the 47%, was true.

Are you saying the people who now rely even more on those handouts, thanks to reduced hours and higher health costs from Obamacare, will bite that hand in 2014?

NK(tryin' again)

ThomasC-- I like the cut of your Jib young man!! God thoughts. I would add to the debt conditions list defering the Medicaid expansion for a year, delaying all subsidies for a year, REPEALING all POTUS waivers, PLUS another $100BIllion Sequester, PLUS conditioning any further Debt Raise on Entitlement and IRC Code reform (I know can't bind future Congress, do it anyway)

NK(tryin' again)

Good thoughts....

Thomas Collins

I'd be happy to do away with all of the special exemptions and all of ObamaCare, Clarice. I'm thinking of the few that will put the most heat on the purple state Dems up for re-election in 2014. If you're a purple state Dem, you don't want to be running on a record that includes a vote for keeping the Special Health Care Subsidy For Congress.

Beasts of England

Can someone embed 'Burning Down the House'? It is the Talking Heads and it would be very appropriate...

Thomas Collins

Damn, NK! I thought you had elevated me in stature to a deity! :-))

By the way, where's anonamom, who I beleive yesterday referred to Ted Cruz as "TC". You'll be hearing from my trademark lawyers, anonamom! :-))

NK(tryin' again)

ThomasC-- again great thoughts, the Repub FallBack should be to focus on the ObummerCare partial repeals that put the sword to the red/Purple Senate Dems, and so they'll actually pass the Senate.

NK(tryin' again)

TomC-- great thoughts... especially for a mortal man!

Thomas Collins

Try the LUN, BOE.

'Straight-only' sorority proposal stirs up Smith College

[Temporarily] Unidentified student's e-mail proposes an "exclusive" chapter of Delta Gamma for "straight girls."
pinkman

It's over...already?

MaryM

The crux of the optical illusions being promoting here is the conflation of "Health Insurance" with "Health Care". In a way, all the strategies and tactics and PR in opposition to the ACA have been dulled by the failure to make this distinction. IMHO, of course.

Thomas Collins

How did you do that, TK?

"Harry Reid knows this how destructive the helath care bill is to the middle class and the poor"

I think it's spelled 'hellth care.'

Threadkiller

Cut and paste from Word, TC™

Extraneus
Plans for the all-straight sorority was news to Delta Gamma's Mary Ellen Hardies, the national chapter's director of communication, who told USA TODAY Delta Gamma first heard about the Smith student's e-mail from a Google news alert.

"Our attorney has been in contact with the university trying to figure out what the heck is going on, who this girl is, to what extent things are happening" Hardies said of the unidentified student's e-mail. "That sort of approach does not fall in line with our values at all."

NK(tryin' again)

Question-- are there enough straight girls at Smith College to form a viable Soroity?

McCain is such a pile of shit.

"We lost fair and square, elections have consequences, blah blah."

McCain is now picking apart Cruz's speech.

Apparently all he heard was the part about Neville Chamberlain.

Exactly -- if you "follow the money" then you see that, at its base, what Obamacare does is to take the premium money away from treating the {few, expensive, sick} and dole it out in very small amounts to the {many, cheap, well}. The former is health insurance (where you only get to collect from the common pool of insurance premium money if you are sick, which is reasonably rare), while the latter is health care (piddly little amounts that even the healthy need to spend.)

Insurance is based upon the math of the many paying in money to the insurance pool just in case they get sick, and most of them don't get sick so there is lots of money available to pay the bills of the few. What The Many get for their money is the knowledge that if they get sick then the money will be there for them. But if the money is spent buying worthless crap for people who don't need it, then it can't be there for the people who do.

I had to leave the room when Harry Reid appeared on TV this morning to remind everyone that it wasn't a "filibuster-filibuster." I now hear he called the entire event a waste of time about things that have been discussed and debated(!!!!!) already. What a dishonest man.

Quick, Henry, the Flit.

John McCain's wanting the final 15 minutes of the time allotted to Ted Cruz was an insult to the people who had watched and listened to some honest and earnest facts. What a maroon!

This will be the first time I have turned on Rush since the election and only because Ted Cruz will be on with him this morning.

McCain has already trashed the local elections with his influence, money, and his access to his friends - the media. I don't know why we had to spend billions on a super-collider when all you ever had to do is flip on a media mike anywhere in McCains vicinity.

Frau Pfeffergewehr

Nobody slings carp better:

At that point, Reid began his remarks and attacked the Tea Party activists as “extremists” and “anarchists” for their efforts to see President Obama's signature health care law defunded.

An anarchy movement is afoot. A lead editorial in the New York Times on Wednesday of last week said that. But we’re not going to bow to tea party anarchists who deny the mere fact that Obamacare is the law. We will not bow to tea party anarchists who refuse to accept that the Supreme Court ruled that Obamacare is Constitutional. They ignore the fact that Obama was overwhelmingly re-elected a few months ago.

He continued, “These fanatics really point to the disapproval for Obamacare as justification for taking the federal government and our economy hostage to their demands.”

I'm not so sure, since AZ is an open primary state. So is SC, which imo is why Grahamnesty is still a senator. In a red state the only way to elect a squish is for Dems to register as independent/unaffiliated and vote in the primary for the most liberal viable Repub on the ballot, leaving voters in Nov. with only the choice of "bad" Rep or "worse" Dem.

Captain Hate on the iPhone

rich-- fair point, but incomplete. Millions were persuaded, by Obama voters staying home, and some even switching. Romney got beat on the modern Big Data ways to get out marginal supporters, and generally he failed to enthuse persuadables. *** Pie-in-the-sky promises from Democrats about health care are going to be a very tough sell for quite a while.***

How so? We've had a war on poverty going on 50 years, and Obama has made steady gains and that hasn't caused any outrage (more people on food stamps, more people going on disability than finding work, etc). In 3 years, more people will be turning to the government for health care, and during those 3 years, Obamacare will have been in operation (with its carve outs and special exemptions and anything else the Secretary shall deem).

NK(tryin' again)

Rich@1:49's pessimistic assessment is why I don't agree with DoT's let it crash gambit.

rich@gmu

they were being screwed a year and two years ago as well. now all they have is about another 20k in education debt for the hopes of finding a make-work job for their make-work degree. but Obama still won, and won that demographic by about 35 points.

NK(tryin' again)

rich-- all true. do ya think 'the obama is cool' factor for 20 somethings has worn off at this point. I do.

James D.

Rich, rse's been telling us the answer to that for months now.

They've been deliberately taught to be "feelers" rather than thinkers, and marinated in progressive fantasies, distortions and lies for 12 years of elementary-high school, and 4+ more years of college/grad school, not to mention 8 hours+ a day of media awash in the same garbage. And they haven't had enough time in the real world to break through all of that brainwashing (if that's even possible at this point).

It's a miracle that Obama ONLY won that demographic by 35 points.

Porchlight

Here is my dutiful occasional reminder that Ted Cruz would not be in the Senate today if it weren't for one Sarah Louise Heath Palin, whose perfectly-timed late endorsement helped him surge to a runoff.

From that point on it was clear (at least here in Texas) that he would beat Dewhurst handily.

If you don't believe me, ask Ted Cruz.

I agree, James D. and add the driving need to belong to a group, especially the one with most public approval and includes all the cool celebrities. Who wants to be an evil Republican? Good Morning.

Just awoke and am listening to Ted Cruz on Rush Limbaugh's show, giving a post Filibuster interview.

As a guy who spends a great majority of my time trying to stay awake and mentally alert on the back side of the clock, I am amazed at how mentally sharp Ted Cruz is on Rush's show. After having stood and talked for the last almost 24 hours Cruz is mentally still sharp as a tack and speaking beautifully to Rush's audience. In a similar circumstance I would be an exhausted basket case, with blood shot eyes, and desperate for a beer to knock me out. Ted Cruz is even making ad lib witty jokes to Rush, in the midst of explaining the ins and outs of this whole process and the importance of why he did what he did.

Very, very impressive Senator Cruz. Great job.

I would be astounded if any of his sneering critics in the Media could do the same thing half as impressively.

Frau Pfeffergewehr

Surely you jest. There is a not a statewide officeholder of the Democrat persuasion in Texas. And Texas has lots of statewide officeholders due to the facts that judges are elected here. NOT ONE.

And Senators serve for six years, so Democrats are going to get to hear a lot more from the junior Senator from the great state of Texas. Just the way I like it.
