Yet here we stay.

rich@gmu

morning all. the food nannies won't be happy until they tell us everything is bad for us and to eat bugs.

Jack is Back

Morning, all. The rain has finally subsided and the sun is shining.

Come on down!

Beester

http://www.wired.com/autopia/2014/03/mh370-electrical-fire/

Cross post..could this be the Occam razor explanation for flight 370 disappearance?

Miss Marple

Beester, how does this square with the left turn programmed into the plane's computer?

Bruce

I hear salt is ok for you too.

Bruce

Dr. Frank Hu: "because when people cut down on fats they tend to eat more bread, cold cereal and other refined carbohydrates that can also be bad for cardiovascular health."

How many people did "scientists" and "nutritionists" kill by driving people away from fat into the deadly arms of sugar and carbs?

Millions.

Neo

Klaatu: You have faith, Professor Barnhardt?

Barnhardt: It isn’t faith that makes good science, Mr. Klaatu, it’s curiosity. Sit down, please. There are several thousand questions I’d like to ask you.

Oh dear, pot farming it turns out is not environmentally conscious nor sustainable:http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2014/03/marijuana-pot-weed-statistics-climate-change

NK(withnewsoftware)

Clarice-- I am copying what I said on the prior thread:

a lot of truth to what you say. The EUtopians will rue the day they got a weak USA. They will have to stare down the Russian Bear and Muslim wolf on their own... tough choice, who do they surrender to first?

Neo

Now this is where we enter the territory of a geopolitical thriller. Mr Paulson:

"Here I'm not going to name the senior person, but I was meeting with someone… This person told me that the Chinese had received a message from the Russians which was, 'Hey let's join together and sell Fannie and Freddie securities on the market.' The Chinese weren't going to do that but again, it just, it just drove home to me how vulnerable I felt until we had put Fannie and Freddie into conservatorship [the rescue plan for them, that was eventually put in place]."

For me this is pretty jaw-dropping stuff - the Chinese told Hank Paulson that the Russians were suggesting a joint pact with China to drive down the price of the debt of Fannie and Freddie, and maximize the turmoil on Wall Street - presumably with a view to maximizing the cost of the rescue for Washington and further damaging its financial health.

Paulson says this guerrilla skirmish in markets by the Russians and Chinese didn't happen.

Miss Marple

Catching up on work around here, and thought I would check in, but it looks like everyone else is doing the same thing! Ha!

I am done with all of these diets. I am trying to eat real food and not overindulging in things. Seems to have worked - I have lost 3 pounds.

Everything in moderation. No one gets out alive, anyway.

The only issue I have with the Goodfellow "fire" theory is that a plane approaching Pulau Langkawi would most certainly raise defense radar alarms. That particular airport is a major Malaysian Air Force base with a very large contingent of Sukhoi, Mikoyan and F/A 18 interceptors. If all systems were disabled, Malaysian Air Force radar would be suspicious of such a large signature on their screens without indentification. Just my opinion.

Threadkiller

Neo. last thread Rich explained that it was all hashed out long ago.

NK(withnewsoftware)

The fire emergency-- would the crew aviate by computer input, or a control yoke maneuver? US sources claim the left turn was a computer input, would the crew do that in a fire emergency?

"who do they surrender to first?"

The EUtopians have selected slow suicide while building totems against the SkyDragon and conducting mass slaughter of babies rather than surrender. I keep wondering how these 'drunk searching for car keys under street light' meta studies on the scourge of obesity square against the Malthusian scarcity idiocy.

It's almost as if there might be some minor flaw in the underlying premise.

Bori

Russia has also been trying to replace the Dollar as a World currency, something the Chinese seem to favor as these articles attest.

http://www.futureworldcurrency.com/Documents.asp?DocumentID=3874

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=7168919

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-10-13/chinas-official-press-agency-calls-new-reserve-currency

The EU hoped that the Euro would replace the Dollar as a world currency, as well.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Russian/Chinese desire to replace the Dollar is part mercantilism/ political power, and part business. The business part is the USA FED debasing the Dollar's value with the QE madness to finance the Obummer deficits. What trading nation --either raw material export (Russia) or raw material importer/manufacture exporter (China)-- wants lunatics like Bernanke and Obummer dictating currency rates for their products. They have legitimate reasons to replace the Dollar-- the Dollar has been abused by Obummer and the Fed.

Vlad has a shooting incident. Russians storm Ukraine base in Simferopol, shoot Ukrainians. Not clear if they were killed or just wounded.

Jack is Back

Russia placed Sanctions on 11 Russians, not including Obama, and now Putin is going to place sanctions on 11 Americans. Those Americans including Dick Durbin and John McCain. They are laughing about it.

Were they laughing about it when Obama did it. I know Durbin wasn't.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Earlier thread discussion about Vlad's connection to his Serbian Orthodox brothers, reminded me of this incident in 1999 -- a pop singer had more sense than Wesley Clark: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incident_at_Pristina

Miss Marple

daddy, Here is something someone posted on Twitter. Note the dates:

How many people did "scientists" and "nutritionists" kill by driving people away from fat into the deadly arms of sugar and carbs?

The best approach IMO is not to listen to any of so-called experts on any of this stuff (including Taubes) and just eat all foods in moderation, exercise frequently and drink plenty of water.

And above all, recognize that diet and exercise are not magic talismen and even people that appear perfectly fit and healthy will sometimes succumb to disease.

Our culture is way too obsessed with this stuff. Now that we in the first world have achieved prosperity to the point where most of us are no longer daily concerned with mere survival, instead of being grateful for such heretofore unimagined abundance, we instead worry to distraction about things like carbs and gluten and fight among ourselves as to which eating regime is superior.

It's sad.

Some Guy

When I read the Taubes book I was struck by how some nutrition researchers had the same leftward blinding as some climate "scientists".

They come to the study with an existing prejudice that something is "bad" and it blinds them to their what their own results are telling them or causes them to ignore obvious causation/correlation errors.

A "rich" diet, by its very definition, is a bad thing to them. Damn the evidence.

Miss Marple

Some Guy,

It is my firm belief that the diet Nazis are substituting their health regimens for Puritanical strains of Christianity.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Were the 1980s 'experts' paid by Big Ag?-- that is one player who really liked the USDA's high carb low fat pyramid.

NK(withnewsoftware)

MissM-- wat does the Diego Garcia flight schedule screen shot mean?

/stands and cheers

Only very rich societies worry about this kind of crap. It's the exact same impulse behind Skydragon.

jimmyk

I agree, except that one is under a constant barrage of ridiculous theories and fads by friends and relatives, that a failure to respond results in acquiescence.

Miss Marple

NK, Diego Garcia is near the Maldives, which has several citizens claiming they saw a low-flying jumbo jet with a red stripe around 6AM.

Diego Garcia has regularly scheduled flight departures, except there were no flights between the 8th and the 10th.

The article mentioning the sighting of a plane in the Maldives is here:

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2014/03/18/Malaysian-Press-Flight-370-Pilot-s-Simulator-Had-Five-Indian-Ocean-Runways-On-It

I called daddy's attention to it because he said he thought that a major target of terrorists in a plane would be Diego Garcia.

NK(withnewsoftware)

MissM-- thanks, that is very interesting... IF the Maldives witnesses are correct. IF.

beester

MM, re left turn...programmed turn for nearest logical air field to free pilots to manage situation. Per Rush show, Capt. "Luke" figured a fight between the pilots with same result as Wired article, fast splash, no debris field and an oil slick, which squares with some observers' accounts and, I think, what Daddy had postulated. Capt. Luke, very persuasive...and a very nice voice--he had me convinced. Back to prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

"The National Security Agency has built a surveillance system capable of recording “100 percent” of a foreign country’s telephone calls, enabling the agency to rewind and review conversations as long as a month after they take place, according to people with direct knowledge of the effort and documents supplied by former contractor Edward Snowden."

Wanna bet that pushing two buttons can elmininate the parameters "foreign" and "month" once that NSA palace out in Utah(?) is complete?

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Tuesday predicted the 2014 midterms would be a “tsunami” victory for the GOP, and pointed to young people and women as two groups with whom his party hopes to grain ground.

Usually RNC types are trying to lower the bar by lowering expectations. The internal polling must be even worse for the liar party than I have suspected.

Problems in the Whitehouse kitchen?

The Halal you say.

Cecil Turner

The fire emergency-- would the crew aviate by computer input, or a control yoke maneuver? US sources claim the left turn was a computer input, would the crew do that in a fire emergency?

You could do it either way . . . I suspect most would do the initial turn manually (you can do it a little sharper/quicker that way), and then use the flight management system (computer) because it's generally more precise.

I don't know how they figured it was programmed (apparently because it flew right over a waypoint), but I'd take that one with a grain of salt.

In any event, the bigger problem with the fire theory is the lack of communications. Unless it all happened real suddenly, a mayday call would be one of the first things on the to do list.

jimmyk

GMax, these are the same geniuses that went into the prevent defense in October 2012, confident that Romney was going to win. So let's see how they blow this.

The fire/autopilot for 2000 miles theory would seem to provide a pretty clear idea of where the plane went down, so if it ain't there (presumably west of the Maldives), I'm skeptical, though it's worth pursuing.

Account Deleted

Lyle,

Go another step beyond the SkyDragon scientismists focus on dragonbreath and consider the watermelon scientismists ability to differentiate the Delta smelt from run of the mill smelt (with which they can breed) and the nutritional scientismists steadfast refusal to fine tune "advice" for humans, even though the ability to process grain and milk correlates very highly with groups which solved the ag, horse, wheel puzzle early. The genetic markers aren't hidden, it's just impolitic to treat a heterogeneous group of species as other than homogenous.

It used to take a little more effort to differentiate the brand of crap being offered as "science".

Miss Marple

Cecil, The maddening thing about the plane mystery is that every single theory has a flaw.

Just as you pointed out with the fire theory, there are similar "Yeah, but what about X?" things for every single theory I have seen postulated.

Back to housework for me!

Cecil Turner

Ah, my mistake. They're reporting that the waypoint was in the computer when the last ACARS update was sent. That is a lot more conclusive (though I'm a little surprised it was sent in the update, based on earlier reporting of how basic their tracking system was).

I also note they're changing the timeline, which illustrates the most difficult part of coming up with a workable theory: it's impossible to come up with the simplest explanation that covers all the facts when the facts keep changing.

Old Lurker

The other maddening thing about the plane mystery is that facts one day are changed the next.

Other than that it did not arrive on schedule at its destination, do we actually know anything for sure that we have learned from a reliable third party?

WASHINGTON - Now it can be told: President Obama says one of the best-kept secrets at the White House is the pastry chef's to-die-for pie.

In an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday, Obama was asked to reveal a White House secret, and he dished about the pie.

Obama says the pastry chef makes "the best pie I have ever tasted, and that has caused big problems with Michelle and I."

Obligatory mention of Obama's penchant for using the first person subjective pronoun as an object of a preposition.

The horror!

And obligatory Michelle mention...

The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care ... then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.

See, Obama and his love of that pastry chef's pies is what has been keeping Americans from receiving all the wondrous bounties of universal health care. Obamacare may have just been saved.

Thanks Michelle! You saved us with your constant nagging and harping and demonizing.

Jack is Back

This day in history: 1766

[Is Obama our King George? Ted Cruz our Patrick Henry? ObamaCare our new Stamp Act?]

Parliament Repeals Stamp Act

“No taxation without representation! ”

That was the angry cry of American colonists when the British Parliament passed laws requiring them to pay new taxes. Britain had spent a great deal of money to protect the colonies, especially during the French and Indian War. In Parliament’s view, the colonists should help pay for that defense. The colonists took a different view. They were used to being taxed by their own assemblies, but they had no representatives in distant Parliament. As they saw it, they were being taxed without their consent.

They especially hated the 1765 Stamp Act. It said that most printed materials—licenses, contracts, wills, newspapers, pamphlets, almanacs, even playing cards—must bear an official stamp, which the colonists had to buy. The act inflamed the colonies. Riots broke out. Mobs attacked the homes of royal tax officials.

Young Patrick Henry rose to speak in the Virginia House of Burgesses. “Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell,” he said, citing two famous rulers whose actions had led to their own deaths, “and George the Third—” Some members were shocked. “Treason!” they shouted. Henry continued: “. . . and George the Third may profit from their example. If this be treason, make the most of it!”

Stunned by the furious response, Parliament repealed the Stamp Act on March 18, 1766. But the crisis had made Americans acutely aware of their rights. As John Adams wrote, the people were “more attentive to their liberties, more inquisitive about them, and more determined to defend them.”

Jane

Dot,

Obama placed sanctions on 7 (not 11) Russians the same sanctions he gave them ample warning of. He said he would seize their assets etc. They had all the time necessary to remove all their assets. Obama's buddies, like Durbin were all for this policy. Putin decided to sanction a bunch of Americans - the heads of House and Senate and a few more - in an attempt to mock Obama. So Durbin's response was "my mother would be proud" and McCain laughed etc.

My point poorly expressed is, for Durbin and the dems, it was cool when Obama did it to Russians and laughable when Putin did it to Americans.

~~

At this moment Obama is awarding medals to all military members who those horrid racist discriminated against.

Finally getting tough:

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what was described as a major ramping up of sanctions, Secretary of State John Kerry announced on Tuesday that the United States had frozen Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Netflix account, effective immediately.

“Unless and until Mr. Putin calls off the annexation of Crimea, no more ‘House of Cards’ or ‘Orange Is the New Black’ for him,” Mr. Kerry said. “The United States will not stand by and reward the annexation of another sovereign nation with a policy of streaming as usual.”

While all of the sanctions Mr. Kerry announced on Tuesday were Netflix-related, he warned Mr. Putin that “nothing is off the table.”

“I’m sure I don’t need to remind the Russian President that ‘Game of Thrones’ is about to come back for another season,” he said. “As I have said, this thing could get very ugly, very fast.”

Sorry, but I just can't not pull this from that pjmedia link:

The picture was a mock-up of a KGB personnel file with a photo of Obama wearing the uniform of a KGB lieutenant with three stars on blue epaulettes. The name on the card is listed as Boris Huseinovich Obamov, a spy and saboteur, born in Uzbekistan and of Uzbek ethnicity, a member of United Russia Party, recruited by Vladimir Putin in 1981, currently without a permanent address and working undercover as the U.S. president.
