I'm in for another MoDo pile-on. In this hallucination does Michael Douglas find her attractive?

MarkO

This was how Bill Clinton did dope but said he didn't inhale. It's 1972 again.

lyle

Huh. The few times I managed to read an entire MoDo column I figured she must have been high when she wrote it.

NK(withnewsoftware)

CaptH-- too funny.

Jane

The most troubling part: "my green corduroy jeans"

this is our local version of dowd;

we also offer 'Leonard Pitts Garnell' raving over
climate change, only Garvin the TV writer's worth a farthing.

Wikileaks is sometimes the only way to find out something

Thomas Collins

Typical prog. Wants to engage in ersatz coolness, but then doesn't do the homework and expects an inflated grade. But I guess weed in the candy is less forgiving than her editors and readers.

James D.

Yay legalization, right?

I hate the War on Drugs, and I think it is a disaster on every level, that has done incalculable damage to our society, and has changed the relationship between government and citizen in ways that we may never recover from.

But legalization, and celebration of all the various ways these idiots can dream up for getting high, is certainly not the answer either.

Wishing a very happy birthday to my friend and ally in the Rebel Alliance, United States Senator Mike Lee!

- Ted Cruz via facebook this morning

Love this.

It has potential for exploitation as a marketing tool for the GOP with younger voters if teh top men would get out of the way... WTH am I saying they are part of the Galactic Empire.

James D.

And, why on Earth is Maureen Dowd employed, or even employable?

henry

Maybe MoDo is part of this op: Putin actively trolls American websites.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Green courduroy jeans? well, as Marko says, it's 1972 again.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

She's probably staying in a non-smoking hotel room.

I barely made it from the desk to the bed, where I lay curled up in a hallucinatory state for the next eight hours. I was thirsty but couldn’t move to get water. Or even turn off the lights.

Hopefully there aren't many people in Colorado driving around like this.
I guess it doesn't matter...as long as they aren't smoking tobacco.

Thomas Collins

What? Putin doesn't consider JOM worthy enough to send a few of his Russkie trolls here? I'm insulted!

Captain Hate

I put this in the last thread but I want to make sure it doesn't get overlooked because this is the dilemma we continually face with the GOPe:

Well we start by voting out the money-suckers like Thad Cochran. Really, if the voters are tired of these assholes spending all our kids' money, they have to vote them out. Then maybe the next gang of appropriators will get the message. And if they don't, we have to throw them out too.

I can tell you a story of a former GOP House member who got put on Appropriations in 2002 to help her raise money for her campaign in a swing district. She actually tried to cut spending in some areas because that was what she campaigned on. Tom DeLay personally threatened her and ordered her to write earmarks for her district in the bill her Subcommittee was working on. She was horrified and refused the earmarks. DeLay took her off Appropriations.

People like Thad Cochran are remnants of the Tom DeLay era, when Republicans actually thought it was good politics to grab as much of the federal pie as possible and worry later about paying for it all.

It's not just Thad Cochran. Just about EVERYONE ends up the same way, sooner or later. It's inevitable.

Power corrupts. You get used to the perks of office. You come to believe your own press. It's just crappy, sinful, fallen human nature. Nobody's immune to it.

The best we can do is fight those things in ourselves every day. But when you're in an environment like DC, where everything around you tells you to give in, where almost everyone around HAS given in, well...

Happy, happy, joy, joy Ignatz

This is Maureen Dowd's brain on drugs;

Porchlight

Well. As someone who unknowingly ate a pot-filled muffin at a party several years ago and ended up begging my friends to call 911, I can relate a little to MoDo's story. I had done my fair share of recreational drugs in my wayward youth, but I had never been a pot person, and certainly had never ingested a large amount of it, so I had no idea what was happening. Plus, I had just had my first baby a few weeks earlier which moms will tell you kind of rocks your world physically and mentally. I thought maybe I was severely dehydrated or something.

It's a funny story - now. :)

However, unlike MoDo, I had no idea I was consuming pot at all, whereas she was deliberately experimenting.

Jack is Back! (But in Typhus Hell)

All day long on the radio are traffic reports from Brussels on how many tunnels and areas have been shut down for The Champ and his entourage. No other leader in the world travels with the contingent and equipment our POTUS does. If you think the EU bureaucrats and mavens are in awe, think again. This is a mess and it works its way all the way back to Antwerp which is chock a block on the Ring Road.

I wish someone running for POTUS would take a vow of poverty and modesty when it comes to the trappings and travel. It is embarrassing to think this guy is worth this much attention, security and protection. No one else is - why is that?

NK(withnewsoftware)

2 Things:

1. Obummer's evil politcal plan was to attack 'Rethuglicans' who attacked the nice soldier boy Bowe B. Instead, Obummer is attacking the demonstrably nicer soldier boys who are outing Bowe B as a deserter as 'Swiftboaters'. What a political fail, Senate Dems hardest hit;

2. the CNN poll #s on the issues being all under 50% for Obummer, is the BEST outcome for Dems, as Obummer has that black POTUS polling advantage (80+% black approval) The issues are far worse for pale skinned Dems, and killer for Dems in competitive races. Can I dream for a moment that Repubs win Senate elections in Iowa and NJ?

narciso, the filmmaker gets jail, the murder's row go home

Now I think he happens to be wrong, but it shows the muddle this administration is in:

https://now.mmedia.me/lb/en/commentaryanalysis/549925-the-crumbling-facade

of course if the goal is to allow the SAudi and Qatari backed factions to have the upper hand
then it makes perfect sense

Porchlight

I agree, NK. It isn't plausible that they didn't know Bergdahl's backstory. Therefore, they knew. Therefore, they negotiated with terrorists to trade one halfassed terrorist for five terrorists who are really, really good at their jobs.

Any pushback against Bergdahl was going to be used against Republicans.

Porchlight

I wish someone running for POTUS would take a vow of poverty and modesty when it comes to the trappings and travel.

Well, Carter tried that and was ridiculed for it. But he had a certain priggishness about it.

Captain Hate

Oh.... and for those whose Rage Meter is not pegged at Stroke level yet...

Bergy will soon receive $310 K in back pay....

Oh, golly, now there is actual video of Obama working out - not just still shots. It is actually a very funny video.

OT - does anyone else have someone in their life that seems unable to answer direct questions? I don't mean about political stuff, I mean like "oh, what did the teacher end up saying about the question you had about X after-school activity?" and the answer is "My son brought home a registration form for the activity." But what I really need to know (for my own student) is what the teacher said.

Thank goodness I don't work with this person, I would go insane.

Captain Hate

does anyone else have someone in their life that seems unable to answer direct questions?

Not for long.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Bowe B's back pay? I would escrow that, pending the outcome of the investigation/Article 32 hearing.

Porchlight

She's my SIL (or at least my BIL's ex, mother of his kids), Cap'n, so I have no choice. In fairness she has been extremely helpful with this kind of information in the past, so I'm grateful, even if it's like pulling teeth to get it out of her.

The weird thing is, she has the kind of job where she has to answer specific and direct questions all day long, as soon as possible (producing photo shoots and films, usually on location) so I just don't understand how she can be so vague all the time. In person she tends to be less vague, it's more of an email/text thing.

AliceH

The weird thing is, she has the kind of job where she has to answer specific and direct questions all day long

Sounds more like an explanation than a contradiction to me. Accountants don't balance their checkbooks. Operators hate to talk on the phone. Doctors don't seek medical treatment....

NK(withnewsoftware)

Swiftboating whining from Obummer? To me that's an admission the guy deserted... or worse. This doesn't get better for the Dems; will the Army keeps BoweB in the German Hospital until the elections?

NK(withnewsoftware)

AliceH.... and lawyers don't take legal advice. Not well anyway.

Hah! Thanks for all the links, cc.

Words fail me.

You should right click that photo to get the full effect.

I think Obummer makes the same facial expression when he's with Reggie love.

Dave (in MA)

centralcal | June 04, 2014 at 12:08 PM, funny, but I was hoping for something a bit more Richard Simmons-ey.

Jane

He looks like a girl.

jimmyk

Those look like 3 lb weights and he's grimacing. Yeah, I'm sure he curled 72 lbs weights.

narciso, the filmmaker gets jail, the murder's row go home

No Schmitt seems to have been given the signal to muddle the waters, re the casualties, that Bergdahl seem to have exacerbated.

Sue

Those are 10 pounders, I believe. I lift 8 pounders. I do lots of reps. Hopefully, these shots were taken after the third set of 100.

jimmyk

I was kidding about 3 lbs, but honestly to me they look like 5s or 8s. But, yeah, maybe he's doing hundreds of reps. He certainly has plenty of time on his hands between golf rounds.

Porchlight

Accountants don't balance their checkbooks. Operators hate to talk on the phone. Doctors don't seek medical treatment....

And the shoemaker's kids go barefoot. Good point. I'm a librarian and my books are in perfect chaos at home.

Is he in his pajamas in those pics? Yikes.

Porchlight

And what is with that Mao-style collar? Are they ValJar's pajamas?

Scumbags:

"Appearing on the Today Show this morning, Chuck Todd reports that, in response to allegations of possible desertion by Bowe Bergdahl, White House sources are accusing the soldiers that served with him of 'swift boating.' Prior to the allegations made by those who served with Bergdahl, National Security Advisor Susan Rice had said Bergdahl served with 'Honor and distinction.'"

The NY Times is running an article suggesting that you can't really attribute any soldier's death to the search for Bergdahl.

Thomas Collins

I think Obama's pumping regimen is the one used to prepare for putting the 16 ounce shot, as opposed to the 16 pound shot.

Uruguayan paper:

"Uruguayan government negotiations with Washington to receive detainees from the US jail in Guantanamo base, and with the UN to host Syrian children and their families are well advanced, revealed Foreign minister Luis Almagro. Apparently six Guantanamo prisoners will travel to Uruguay as refugees in the near future while ACNUR, the UN agency that deals with refugees will be selecting a group of 120 Syrian children, victims of the civil war, which should be arriving in the country in two months time."

Captain Hate | June 04, 2014 at 11:30 AM

While I do dislike earmarks as much as you do the big IF here is Obummer gets the dollars if they're not spent in one's district. So it's a damned if you do and damned if you don't.

NK(withnewsoftware)

"And what is with that Mao-style collar?"

Mao style? C'mon Porch, you had to ask? :)

Getting back to the "To Steal" list, I saw one comment, DAM where that read "The Dowd abides." That's my favorite.
