Primo!

hit and run

This would be a good day for a late afternoon doc dump by the administration.

Jane

Hit,

That's funny - because it's the first thing I thought of too.

Hmmm maybe O arranged for the shoot down so no one would notice the DOJ Sgt Schultz testimony in the IRS hearing yesterday.

Captain Hate

Actually Jane, I didn't notice the DOJ testimony in the IRS hearing yesterday; too many scandals for a person to follow.

hit and run

Has Obama yet decided if the Malaysian plane crash in Ukraine was a terrible tragedy, or is he still harboring doubts as he was yesterday?

DebinNC

BOzo is off to Camp David this afternoon after a strenuous week ... of golfing/fundraising/photo-oping in Delaware, NYC, Austin, Denver, and VA. The caged bear needs to break free from the confines of the WH.

Jane

Seems to me it might be time to think about having another Empty Chair Day.

Captain Hate

Listening to ESPN radio when I'm driving Mrs H to "Crewe University" is probably not a good way to spend my time. Today the two guys sitting in for Mike and Mike were talking about some douche covering the British Open being apoplectic that so many of the participants couldn't ID the members of the Beatles. Fans of the "beloved moptops" need to learn to keep their obsessions to themselves upon penalty of being sent to some boomer assisted care facility. God knows they were annoying enough when their guys were producing records and insisting that they were some great improvement on everything else. Even if that were subjectively true, nobody wanted to hear it then and they sure as hell don't want to hear it now. I'm really disappointed one of the golfers didn't tee off literally on whichever bothersome pest wasted his time with that question.

Heaven will be a Beatle free zone.

Thomas Collins

Clever disinformation maneuver by KGB Vlad. Have those who shot down the plane play act that they thought it was a Ukrainian plane (bad enough, since the Ukrianian military is defending what is in substance a Russian invasion). Then have the perpetrators delete that conversation, making it look as if they were trying to cover up their "mistake".

NK(withnewsoftware)

Henry-- I assume you know about all this, but here you go: http://watchdog.org/149377/john-doe-lawsuit-eric-okeefe/

NK(withnewsoftware)

I like the Beatles....

NK(withnewsoftware)

ThomasC-- what was it that Cheney said after the first Putin meet? 'looked into his eyes and saw KGB'.....

hit and run

CH:
Heaven will be a Beatle free zone.

Well, it's too early in the morning for Gus to be around normally . . . but that's filed under ::SHOTS FIRED::

henry

NK, that was from June... now on doc dump wait for latest smear Walker effort. Could hit around primary time in August.

On "news free day", isn't the Hallbig ruling expected today?

James, just in case... if any antics in your book involve phd students based in Sears, I didn't do it (just like Vlad didn't do something yesterday). ; )

Captain Hate

Catherine Merridale in Red Fortress said this about Putin:

Putin, wrote political analyst Lilia Shevtsova, was 'not charismatic or a bright personality'. His qualities included 'modest, dullness...and the ability to use street slang'. She might have been gloomier still if she had recollected that Stalin's early rivals, such as Leon Trotsky, had once made broadly similar comments about him.

Thomas Collins

Yes, NK, Vlad has viciously and cleverly sent a message to Obama and the Euros to butt out as he continues his steps to absorb eastern Ukraine.

NK(withnewsoftware)

ThomC-- for those who ask, why would Vlad do such a thing? the simple is answer, because he could.... No one would stop him, and he'll pay no price; his crude will continue to flow at $109/Brent, and ze germanz won't stop buying his NatGaz, he will continue to get his 20%+ cut. If there was any humanity inside Vlad, it has fully disappeared as his power has grown to despotism. He'll do what he can to get what he wants.Has it ever been any different with despots these past 3,000 years?

Marlene

The first image I saw on TV this morning was a group of local townspeople walking thru a field of sunflowers, looking for wreckage of the downed plane. Why hasn't our State Dept. demanded access to the scene to recover bodies in a humane and timely way? By the way, daddy mentioned the Aussies know how many of their citizens were on the plane, the U.S. still hasn't confirmed? Do the family members have any recourse if their respective countries cower in the face of Putin?

Re: the JOM meet-up...late fall would be good for me,I want to be sure Mom is recovering from surgery before I travel too far. Stephanie didn't list the airfare BGR-ATL. :)

James D.

Not to worry, henry. The antics are centered around one of the Northside dorms. The building names are changed, but I imagine you'd recognize them anyway.

The first book is "Dream Student". The second one ("Dream Doctor") takes place when my heroine is at medical school (also at "Crewe"), in fall of 1991.

She goes back for her 10 year undergrad reunion in the sixth book (creatively titled "Dream Reunion" in the fall of 2001.

Might as well give you the website. If I'm going to shamelessly self-promote, why not do it all the way. All the books are at:

http://viewAuthor.at/JJDiBenedetto

Oh, and in the current book in progress, the family is on vacation in Paris, and I'm thinking there may be a brief cameo featuring a certain 10-year-old travel reporter whose blog we've all been following recently...

Exasperated

After an arduous, week-long vacation of again accomplishing nothing in the national interest, our lazy, sloppy, careless, incompetent and useless occupant of the White House is now off to Camp David for a weekend of relaxing, unwinding and shutting down his brain, confident that they can randomly select any black man off the street to fill in for him if another crisis arises.

DebinNC

The Guardian: "As many as 100 of the world’s leading HIV/Aids researchers and advocates may have been on the Malaysia Airlines flight that crashed in Ukraine, in what has been described as a “devastating” blow to efforts to tackle the virus. Delegates to a plenary session held ahead of the Aids 2014 conference were told that email exchanges showed about 100 attendees were booked on the MH17 flight."

Hard to imagine that some Americans weren't on board. Bill Clinton was/is scheduled to speak at the Aids conference next week. There's something seriously wrong with BOzo the bear, as his inappropriate affect is apparently fully "uncaged" from petty concerns re social expectations.

Morning all, reading the CV of those involved,

he took over the SBU headquarters, in one of

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

Here's a bit on news- http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/07/17/the-administration-just-took-obamacare-away-from-the-territories/

"That was until Wednesday, when the Obama administration told the territories that the coverage requirements actually don't apply to them. The exemption was posted on a Health and Human Services Web site on Thursday."
Just makin' it up as they go along.
"The territories — Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands — have been warning for years that would destroy their insurance markets."
Yeah....they don't want their insurance markets destroyed, like YOURS is destroyed!
Has there been screaming about birth control being banned in those territories because they don't have to obey Obamacare regulations?

Man, the news just gets worse and and worse. This morning the NBA player is changing his name to Metta Global Instability.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

This is from my FB too -
I think it's time for a new name for The U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It sure doesn't appear to be about security...& it doesn't look like it even recognizes the United States as our sovereign homeland. Maybe we can call it The Global Moving & Relocation Dept. (assuming "we" get to decide anything anymore).

Sorry wrong Russian thug, Bezler seems to be a
senior rank to Girkin, having first served in Afghanistan:

Alexander Cherkasov, head of Russia's leading human rights group Memorial, is convinced that the "Igor Strelkov" of Ukraine is the same person as a Russian military officer called "Strelkov", who was identified as being directly responsible for at least six instances (on four separate occasions) of the forced disappearance and presumed murder of residents of Chechnya's mountain Vedensky District village of Khatuni and nearby settlements of Makhkety and Tevzeni in 2001-2002, when "Strelkov" was attached to the 45th Detached Reconnaissance Regiment special forces unit of the Russian Airborne Troops based near Khatuni.[17][18] None of these crimes were solved by official investigations.[19] Cherkasov and other observers suspected -but were not sure- it was in fact the same "Strelkov" until May 2014, when Igor Strelkov / Girkin himself confirmed he has been present at Khatuni in 2001, where he fought against the "local population".[17][18][20] According to Cherkasov, as a result of Strelkov's actions in Chechnya, two sisters of one of those "disappeared", Uvais Nagayev,[note 1] in effect turned to terrorism and died three years later: one of these sisters, Aminat Nagayeva, blew herself up in the 2004 Russian aircraft bombings over the Tula Oblast aboard a Tu-134 "Volga-Aeroexpress" airliner, killing 43; the other sister, Rosa Nagayeva, participated in the Beslan hostage crisis that same year.[19]

Seriously, though, Harf and Psaki look exactly like what SNL would cast to portray State Dept personnel.

Or maybe....

Announcer: "Weekend Update", with Jen Psaki and Marie Harf.

Psaki: Good evening, I'm Jennifer Psaki! But you can call me Jen. And the P is silent, by the way.

Harf: I'm Marie Harf! My last name rhymes with . . . hah, never mind.

Psaki: Scarf? You were going for scarf, weren't you?

Harf: Yes, that's it! Whew, thought I was going to throw up there for a second.

Psaki: And here are tonight's top stories!

brilliant stuff that Hit. Only problem is that it is truer than we realize.

Ignatz Ratzkiwaski

I thought Ace's "reconsideration" was rather stupid.

First, it seems indisputable from the start somebody shot down the plane.
Second, the necessary invasion of Gaza was occurring at the at same time.
Either one should have been sufficient for ursus horribilis to alter his one man performance art tour.

Captain Hate

Question: Is it a reasonable expectation for a GOP president to send Psaki and Harf scurrying off to work for CNN or MessNBC, or will they just be reassigned in the Statepile to something with less exposure? Because we've wasted enough prose on pointing out how useless State is but nobody does a damn thing about it except assign their big donors as ambassadors.

James D.

CH, I'd say a reasonable expectation for a GOP President, based on the demonstrated corruption and incompetence of pretty much every executive branch agency over the last 6 years, would be to fire pretty much everyone.

As a gesture of kindness, maybe those fired could be allowed to reapply for their jobs before a hiring committee selected from regular JOM posters.

(I think the phrase "death panels" would probably be fitting here...)

Hillary: This plane thing is really Europe’s problem

“As you know, the Europeans have tried to figure out the best way forward,” she said when asked how the United States should respond to clear evidence that pro-Russian separatists using Russian hardware killed nearly 300 foreign civilians. “From my perspective — and I have the benefit of not being in the government — if there is evidence linking Russia to this, that should inspire the Europeans to do much more.”

Vlad plays it cynically. Ukes turn the tide against the Russkies in eastern Ukraine, and US and Euros plan new sanctions. So Vlad shoots down a plane and now is suing for peace.

Most likely next move from Vlad: While the "peace" negotiations go on, Vlad's forces, which were under siege but now will get a break as the Euros, Obama and our hashtag State Department press Poroshenko to "give peace a chance", will be taking further steps to destabilize eastern Ukraine.

For any possible JOM food bingers, here's your emetic:

Throughout my interview with Hillary, she is fiercely engaged; her eyes—sparkly, wide, alert—remain firmly focused on me. She is warm, considered, talks slowly and thoughtfully and uses—consciously or not—tactics that put me at ease. She frequently answers my queries with the response: “Now, that’s a great question”, she litters her answers with colloquialisms that put us on a level and, listening back, I am struck by the amount of times she says, “You know”. And of course there’s that charming laugh. I can see that these natural skills make her the perfect diplomat, the ultimate leader. These are the skills she believes women bring to business. But it would be naive to think that gender differences still don’t present challenges.

House GOP leaders skeptical of Ted Cruz’s plan to end Obama’s 2012 amnesty for DREAMers

Some Republicans worry that Cruz’s bill, in this context at least, is a political loser. “Doing so in the midst of the current crisis could look like an overreach, particularly given how the mainstream media will distort it,” a House Republican leadership aide tells National Review Online. “We’re still waiting to hear from the Border Working Group, and nothing has been ruled in or out. Also, it’s certainly possible to deal with that issue legislatively at another time.”

Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) kicked off the morning by accusing Cruz of trying to deport children who are “legitimately” in the country.

“Before Republicans help our Border Patrol agents and all the personnel that’s trying to do something to handle this humanitarian crisis, they want President Obama to deport the DREAMers who are already here, legitimately here,” Reid said. “These are children. But instead of considering a thoughtful, compassionate solution to a real-life crisis on our border, radical Republicans are trying to hold these kids ransom.”

Politics vs. Principle. Not such a fine line between them.

Extraneus

What was wrong with the headline, NK?

Threadkiller

If the Senate is so necessary, NK, how did the House cause the "Government Shutdown" on their own?

NK(withnewsoftware)

The 2012 EO repeal is overreach (Cruz must live in an echo chamber), the other part of Cruz's Bill is vital national security policy and good politics, clarify the 'human trafficking' law to make clear it doesn't apply to these CA amnesty seekers, and expedite deporations in order to resolve the 'humanitarian crisis', which of course Obummer created. Pass THAT part in the House and dump in Harry's lap to ignore.

Old Lurker

Sounds like a Fake Injun platform to me:

"What are our values?" Warren asked the audience, some of whom held up "Run Liz Run" signs. "What does it mean to be a progressive?"

She went on to outline 11 tenets of progressivism:

- "We believe that Wall Street needs stronger rules and tougher enforcement, and we're willing to fight for it."

- "We believe in science, and that means that we have a responsibility to protect this Earth."

- "We believe that the Internet shouldn't be rigged to benefit big corporations, and that means real net neutrality."

- "We believe that no one should work full-time and still live in poverty, and that means raising the minimum wage."

- "We believe that fast-food workers deserve a livable wage, and that means that when they take to the picket line, we are proud to fight alongside them."

- "We believe that students are entitled to get an education without being crushed by debt."

- "We believe that after a lifetime of work, people are entitled to retire with dignity, and that means protecting Social Security, Medicare, and pensions."

- "We believe—I can't believe I have to say this in 2014—we believe in equal pay for equal work."

- "We believe that equal means equal, and that's true in marriage, it's true in the workplace, it's true in all of America."

- "We believe that immigration has made this country strong and vibrant, and that means reform."

- "And we believe that corporations are not people, that women have a right to their bodies. We will overturn Hobby Lobby and we will fight for it. We will fight for it!"

And the main tenet of conservatives' philosophy, according to Warren? "I got mine. The rest of you are on your own."

rse

This is the New Policy Institute report on the success of this administration's immigration policy. Came out today and it's like adventures in la-la land. http://ndn.org/sites/default/files/blog_files/Despite%20Extraordinary%20Challenges%20Progress.pdf

Says the Central American migrant crisis gives one more opportunity to finally fix immigration legislatively. One troubling point that may be factually accurate is an assertion that Bush allowed a flood of migrants through on a yearly basis during his 8 years.
