I received the same survey, and decided I would wait until later. Perhaps they were asking why their circulation is so down. I would say the end of Mario Batali's "What I Am Drinking" column means there is nothing in the Slimes for me to read

James D.

Let's recap:

Russia's shooting down civilian airliners and testing banned missiles in violation of longstanding treaties. Oh, and annexing all the former SSRs, one at a time.

Pretty much every country in the Middle East is in open civil war.

Thousands of illegal aliens are being lured into our country every day, passed through by the border patrol, and resettled throughout the country by the feds to unwitting localities.

And now we have massive outbreaks of a deadly, highly infectious and totally untreatable disease, so severe that whole countries are closing their borders.

Did I miss anything? Have there been locusts, rains of frogs, or rivers turning to blood anywhere lately?

matt

Well, James, a bunch of people were struck by lightning in Venice Beach on Sunday, so we got that going for us.

NK(withnewsoftware)

JamesD/Matt-- and record overnight cold in the USA Midwest and record heat in UK/Japan and baseball sized hail in Siberia. Anybody see 4 men on horseback?

Jane

They had a tornado in Revere (awaitng TC's report)

henry

James, a river in China turned red. Search for pix.

henry

Oh, and a mayfly swarm caused problems on the upper Mississippi River.

James D.

By the way, with all the discussion of Fiddler on the Roof yesterday, has anybody ever heard the Lovecraft-inspired parody of it, "A Shoggoth on the Roof" ?

"Who's always last to know?
Who fills the air with cries?
Whose sanity is blasted,
And then who usually dies?
The victims! The victims! Tentacles!"

Bori

Well is not exactly blood but it did turn red.

Miss Marple

Arctic sea ice is gaining steam. It's in the 60's in DC in July. And of course, Obama is going to tell us today that "time's a wasting" on climate change measures.

I would say the hurry is to get as much cash into the crony coffers before the jig is up on this scam.

Patrick Sawyer arrived at Lagos' airport on July 20 and was isolated at a local hospital after exhibiting common Ebola symptoms. He told officials he had no direct contact with anyone who had the virus.

Lagos State Health Commissioner Dr. Jide Idris said authorities are working to identify people who may have come in contact with the man on his flights. The process has been delayed, he said, because the airline has not provided the passenger lists for all three of the flights Sawyer took. Sawyer flew first to Ghana before he went to Togo and then switched planes to fly to Nigeria, according to the health commissioner.

Apparently 1/3 of the 59 people they have determined that came in contact with Sawyer now have Ebola.

henry beat me to it on the river thing.

henry-did you see my comments on how involved your state is in this ILN project and how it makes CCSSI really past tense? And it's indisputedly global?

I found this profile of MS's GC interesting. http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2024172824_inpersonbradsmithxml.html

Especially the part where the new head of the New America Foundation heralds his grasp of the need to partner with govt.

"Government is not just an entity for favors. It has to be part of the solution."

Boy I hope neither of them had WOMP creator Richard Falk as their prof at Princeton.

After testing positive for Ebola, he[Dr. Brantly] went into treatment at a Samaritan's Purse isolation center at ELWA Hospital in Paynesville City, Monrovia. His condition is rapidly deteriorating and Samaritan's Purse has been working to evacuate him for better care, but Liberia is not allowing the evacuation, according to Samaritan's Purse vice president of international relief, Ken Isaacs. The reason for the delay is unclear.

The CDC said the doctor's family had been with him, but left for the United States before he became symptomatic; as such it is highly unlikely that they caught the virus from him. Out of an abundance of caution they are on a 21-day fever watch, the CDC said.

Asymmetrical?

"Advanced Micro Devices will join Rep. Lamar Smith to highlight the benefits of incorporating more games into student learning. AMD, Smith, the Semiconductor Industry Association and the Entertainment Software Association will brief staffers on boosting STEM initiatives and acquainting children with technology at a younger age. Gaming demonstrations begin at 11:30 a.m. Eastern in 2325 Rayburn."

Just a bunch of disinterested groups looking out for what is best for students and our nation's future productivity.

Miss Marple

I would almost bet those games aren't basic math races or geographical puzzles, rse.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

Have there been locusts, rains of frogs, or rivers turning to blood anywhere lately?

IMO it is all coming. I'm convinced that as the book of Revelation unfolds the anti-God world will blame AGW.

These aren't Almighty God's judgements....this is happening because you drove a car.

(Reuters) - A top Pentagon intelligence official warned on Saturday that the destruction of Hamas would only lead to something more dangerous taking its place, as he offered a grim portrait of a period of enduring regional conflict.

The remarks by Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, the outgoing head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, came as Israeli ministers signaled that a comprehensive deal to end the 20-day-old conflict in the Gaza Strip appeared remote.

At least 1,050 Gazans - mostly civilians - have been killed, and 42 Israeli soldiers and three civilians in Israel have died.

Flynn disparaged Hamas for exhausting finite resources and know-how to build tunnels that have helped them inflict record casualties on Israelis. Still, he suggested that destroying Hamas was not the answer.

"If Hamas were destroyed and gone, we would probably end up with something much worse. The region would end up with something much worse," Flynn said at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3185537/posts?page=1

Sounds like something out of the GOP strategy room. "Let's do nothing, because doing something may be worse."

Best war model that can win? Stop fighting wars, I guess.

jimmyk

the destruction of Hamas would only lead to something more dangerous taking its place

Well, they've been so accurate in their predictions so far (Arab Spring, etc.).

henry

rse, I saw your link. Walker and pretty much every R running for state office is outpledging each other to unwind the whole CCSSI as first priority in January. It is a big deal in races with primaries (which are a couple weeks away).

Chaffetz is grandstanding right now.

I just noticed the House Judiciary is seated boy/girl instead of partisan. That should help.

henry

per windy city resident, insurance risk corridor is an Obama slush fund. The link came with a tip: the IRS is strangely missing in this story.

Threadkiller

I may have been mistaken on the "boy/girl" seating.

A dem was referred to as the chair of one of the subcommittees, making me think she was seated on the wrong side. She is actually the ranking member of the subcommittee.

Threadkiller

Goodlatte is now delivering a eulogy to a deceased former member of the House.

Threadkiller

Conyers is joining the eulogy by explaining that the deceased is one of the few conservatives he remembers.

GMax

When people start being turned into pillars of salt, do let me know.

Threadkiller

Goodlatte has decided that his home opener first pitch will be a slow and confusing stroll to the plate followed by placement of the ball on a tee:

He wants to know why this question suggests that USCIS never checks documents:

Q21: Will USCIS verify documents or statements that I provide in support of a request for DACA?

A21: USCIS has the authority to verify documents, facts, and statements that are provided in support of requests for DACA. USCIS may contact education institutions, other government agencies, employers, or other entities in order to verify information.

"May should be will!"

This is hopeless.

Threadkiller

GMax mocks the deaths of many.

Why am I not surprised.

NK(withnewsoftware)

'Deaths of many'

well it was Almighty God's judgment, so...

NK mocks God.

Threadkiller

USCIS is limited by their budget, we are told.

Miss Marple

I don't think NK was mocking God, any more than I think that of people who are asking where the rain of frogs and toads are.

It is black humor in these perilous times, and not meant to disparage Scripture.

Threadkiller

NK mocking is limited to the acceptable norms.

GMax

Speaking of being turned into a pillar of salt, we have the NYT and CBS giving us a new poll on Abortion Barbie. Bottom line, she probably does not get even 40% which even boring run of the mill Democrats get statewide in Texas. They seem to be ready to throw the dirt in on the casket. Maybe she is siphoning off money that might keep other Democrats from joining her, and NYT and CBS are just spreading the word from the DNC?

Here:

The survey, done by polling firm YouGov in collaboration with CBS and The New York Times, shows 34 percent supporting Davis and 3 percent leaning toward voting for her, while the same numbers split 50-4 for Abbott. Perhaps the worst news from the poll for the Davis campaign is that only 2 percent aren’t sure for whom they’re going to vote, leaving a very small slice of a red-state electorate to vie for over the next three months.

jimmyk

On the topic of the post, I suspect the NYT might be too worried about offending by leaving some group out, but didn't want to copy Facebook's 51 gender classifications. So the prudent course was to "not go there."

Miss Marple

GMax,

Wendy Davis will be exiled to the Island of Misfit Toys along with Cindy Sheehan and Sandra Fluke.

Threadkiller

The dem congresswoman just suggested that people who have more money should be allowed to pay a substantial fee to expedite their VISA paperwork.

We can add that to Janet's list of do as I say not as I do liberal platforms that should be drummed into the dem voting dase.

Threadkiller

...voting base.

GMax

As I pointed out months ago when the progs we all gaga, or maybe it was coo coo for cocoa puffs, Davis was not going to be reelected to her Ft Worth Senate seat and had nothing to lose, and the Democrats had no other candidate for Governor that was not going to get shellacked. That so many idiot progs sent her money is very very funny, to me.

Miss Marple

GMax,

I think it is funny, too. I remember you talking about it.

Well, how many times will they use women as cannon fodder before democrat women get a clue they aren't really going to get a scrap from Misogyny, Inc?

One would think that the way Hillary was treated would have given them a clue, but no. I will bet you Elizabeth Warren gets the same treatment if a credible male dem candidate appears.

jimmyk

Greenfield rightly criticizes Hillary for parroting the excuse for Hamas putting rocket launchers etc. in civilian areas, that Gaza is small and densely populated. But if you can stand to watch the video, what is striking is Hillary's 404-like use of 'I'. "I negotiated the last cease-fire," etc. Not person who is comfortable in her own skin, seems to me.

A few more: Caucasus Emirate, Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Muslim Brotherhood, Ansar Dine, Ansar al-Sharia and ISIS?

AliceH

I don't know why Caucasus Emirate (Imarat Kavkaz) wasn't on the linked State Dept list. The US designated them a terrorist org in 2011.

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2011/05/164312.htm

There's been ... speculation re: why State Dept hasn't designated Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist org, but can't say MB hasn't been in the news a lot more than most all the orgs they have designated as such.

All the others you "added" (Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Ansar Dine, Ansar al-Sharia and ISIS) are included already on your comment @11:54.
