I am incredibly disturbed at the antisemitism that is exploding everywhere. I doubt Dudu means it, but some serious liberals certainly do. Obama has made supporting terrorism in vogue.

Meanwhile there is a wholesale massacre of Christians going on. And no one says a word.

I suppose the Russian oligarchs might start a game of 'Tag - You're Dead' with Putin but I'm unconvinced that this particular pack of jackals would make the attempt without assurance the game could or would not continue after the first tag (if the first tag is missed, they would have no more worries regarding this world).

We could pretend that Russian oligarchs are a cohesive group willing to take joint action but I suspect the pretense would be of very short duration.

A bit glib from Prof Turley, but a fair constitutional and historical account of impeachment (Turley does leave out that Radical Republicans impeached Andrew Johnson in an effort to impose the most possible punitive reconstruction on the South): http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/five-myths-about-impeachment/2014/08/01/1f00f4ea-1808-11e4-9e3b-7f2f110c6265_story.html

daddy

Good Morning!

Remember Insty's line "I'll start taking Global Warming serious when the Al Gore's and other proponents of Global Warming start acting like they take it serious themselves."

Well it looks to me like ISIS forces in Iraq are about to take the biggest hydroelectric damn in Iraq. Naturally this will lead to a cut off of the largest and safest, non-Carbon emitting energy system in Iraq, forcing people into using dirty carbon to get on with their lives.

So, is the Administration arming the Kurds as they beg for ammunition in order to stop the ISIS forces? No.

Or is the Administration helping the Iraqi forces under Maliki stop ISIS? Beats me, and beats Richard Fernandez: “Whose side is Obama on?”

I would have thought that preventing Global Warming, what Secretary of State John Kerry has called "the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction,” would have roused this Administration to try to help the guys trying to prevent the capture of Iraq's largest Green Energy producer.

Apparently I thought wrong. It must have just been sloganeering as usual.

In other news, ISIS has now taken a town in Lebanon. They have also driven a Kurdish force away from the dam. This is all really, really important shit, Mr. President.

They're just not that smart. And they're liars.

Danube on iPad

I saw that Turley article. He is technically correct that Ford's definition of an impeachable offense is erroneous, but as a practical matter Ford was and is correct: if the house impeaches a president for something that the Founders would not have considered impeachable, he nevertheless remains impeached, and has no recourse. There is no tribunal to which he can appeal.

DebinNC

Criticism of BOzo's not meeting individually with any of the African leaders gathered this week got this response from his national security advisor with no national security creds/speech writer Ben Rhodes:

I will say that the President will have a chance to interact individually with each leader. That's part of the purpose of having the dinner where he'll be able to personally receive each leader attending the dinner. And so he will certainly speak with and interact with every leader who is coming here to the summit.

So smiling broadly while shaking hands and repeating, "Welcome by my dazzling digs. I know you're honored to be here. Neeeext" equates to "interacting with every leader"?

Janet-in 2008 Virginia launched a statewide career pathway system weaving the state's education, workforce devt, and economic devt systems at all levels.

What a slush fund that will be for a crony loving Governor to now play with. No wonder previous one got in trouble.

Va is already piloting WIOA. Again it never left OBE. It thus did not need the Common Core to transition, much like Texas. Don't get mad at me Lone Star advocates. This is something gwb set up in 1995 and seems to be why he was willing to terminate that federal skills board in 2003.

From a commenter ar BR:

Porchlight

Does this give anyone else an uneasy feeling?

Only as a poor use of hyperbole.

I disagree, Cap'n. Grey was right. Steyn agrees:

One hundred years ago today - at dusk on August 3rd 1914 - Sir Edward Grey, the British Foreign Secretary, made a famous observation that endured across the decades:

The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime.

Grey died in 1933, a couple of months after Hitler outlawed all German political parties other than his own. But you could have lived a lot longer than Sir Edward, and still recognized the truth of his words - in France until 1945, in Hungary until 1989, and in the Middle East today, where we're still dealing with the unfinished business of the Great War.

Well since the lights didn't come back on until 1945 and even then fairly dimly, which from the time of his statement encompassed 30+ years, two catastrophic world wars fought largely in Europe and more than a few genocides I'd have to give the guy a break and say "our lifetime" was not too far off the mark.

Captain Hate

The lamps went on in Central Europe briefly because of Reagan. Not enough follow through though, starting immediately afterward.

NK, that would improve things, especially for players in soccer deserts (e.g. CT). In St Louis you could play club ball year round as long as no more than 3 players from a single college were on the same team, elsewhere that was unpossible. We didn't have the organized spring thing in the 70s either. If your going to train all spring (as they do now), might as well compete.

Has anyone weighed in on that Obama interview in The Economist?

A full transcript, lightly edited for clarity, is available below.

BO:

Since I have come into office, there’s almost no economic metric by which you couldn’t say that the US economy is better and that corporate bottom lines are better. None.

So if, in fact, our policies have produced a record stock market, record corporate profits, 52 months of consecutive job growth, 10m new jobs, the deficit being cut by more than half, an energy sector that’s booming, a clean-energy sector that’s booming, a reduction of carbon pollution greater than the Europeans or any other country, a housing market that has bounced back, and an unemployment rate that is now lower than it was pre-Lehman—I think you’d have to say that we’ve managed the economy pretty well and business has done okay.

While it may not be correct to attach great historical significance to August 4th as it relates to one of history's great men (vid. previous thread), having cast our gaze to modernity, we commemorate today the temporary loosening of what remains a Gordian knot of government: the creation of a system of taxation devoid of caprice and indefensible exemptions. For we observe on this date the 225th anniversary of French aristocrats disclaiming a number of their prerogatives and perquisites.

The Jerusalem Post has an article today about the phenomenon of the convergent interests of Israel and the Sunni govts.s this really a new thing? I have long been puzzled by the assassination in Dubai a few years ago of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in a Dubai hotel room. Mossad was suspected. Some Fatah operatives were picked up by Dubai and charged with complicity . If you recall, there was this mysterious posturing by a number of men and women involved, waving to the security camperas after the murder but before the body was found, I have always assumed this was a joint effort by Israel and some Sunni intel agencies. What do you think?

Captain Hate

The contempt for ordinary citizens fairly drips from that Politico piece.
