Don't take a stroll in Los Angeles Griffith Park. It has a resident mountain lion. But the omelette for lunch sounds good.

Buckeye

Well I just caught the last few minutes of FNS.

In time to be lectured about "inclusiveness" by an Aussie gal running the Nat'l Portrait Gallery. Seems she is troubled by so many portraits of dead white guys.

This was right after showing the room with portraits of past Presidents.

I'm troubled that black america will be represented by such a lightweight who squandered a golden opportunity to help heal the divides.

 _peter usually a lurker now

Seems that President nitwit could not care less about the newly found treasure trove of his father's writings. Maybe Bill Ayers is interested. Carlos Slim's dancing chimps' version at the LUN. One "fact" recited is that Barack Obama Sr. and Stanley Dunham were married. Where is the evidence for that?

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Best argument I've seen regarding Orlando;
When some kuntzman [now a generic descriptor for any pansy prog talking about guns] blames an AR-15 the correct answer is 'no, Mateen didn't use an AR-15. The guy who shot, killed and stopped him used an AR-15.'

Black Communist expat parents

Miss Marple 2

clarice,

That was an interesting article. Both see the Muslim world through the eyes of childhood. Jarrett is seeing Iran through the template of the Shah, who was in charge when she was there.
It's a different country, now.

An interesting thing about the black experience I had never thought about: as much as white working class are being robbed of jobs, the black industrial workers were the first to lose out. The loss of manufacturing has harmed the entire working class, both black and white.

Well, whatever. If his message gets out to the gay community and they realize what is going on, I am glad.

Still don't approve of his business, though.

Miss Marple 2

Gentlejim,

After that last interview of Ryan on O'Reilly, I am done with him. If I had spare money, I would donate to his opponent.

First of all, he lied to O'Reilly about the particulars of a bill.

Second, his answer for not declaring war on ISIS is that Obama wouldn't accept it!

I watched it again last night and I was even madder than the first time I watched it.

That smug, sanctimonious jerk is uninterested in doing anything to help the American people. He just shuffles papers around and issues platitudes like they are some sort of deep thinking.

Forget him. I hope he is defeated in his primary.

MaryD

Great link re Ryan MM! He deserves every word of it.

Iirc Speaker Ryan was the result of the R House contingent having so many competing tribes, aka caucuses, that only a milky toast like Ryan could get the nod. He reminds me of long-time, determinedly passive and unoffensive Minority Leader Bob Michel of IL.

Except that Ryan is younger and much more ambitious, and therefore more dangerous. Everything he does will be colored by how it affects his presidential aspirations.

Captain Hate

From Miss Marple's 1:26

It’s not that Obama does not care about murderers of gay people. It is that Obama himself, as the liberal that he is, he doesn’t understand that homophobia is a part of Islam. Just like Islam hates women, it vomits on women, it vomits on gays, on anything that is different. And this is something that Obama either does not understand or does not want to understand.

There's a third option which everybody seems to want to avoid.

glasater

One comment in the article I linked above says this and I think he has a point:

The margin of fraud in the United States is about three percent. This means, particularly if you are conservative, that you'll have to beat your opponent by more than three percent to be assured of winning, as your opponent has "fraud" on his/her side.

I imagine in England the margin of fraud is usually lower than three percent. But this election matters too much to the powers that be. I'll bet on a five percent margin of fraud.

The question is, then, can Brexit pull of at least a five percent advantage to be assured of a win?

Not sure.

Old Lurker

The Brits' chance to save themselves, or at least to have a chance of saving themselves with Brexit is similar to the US having at least a chance of saving ourselves by not allow Hillary or her replacement to win in November. Two "last chances" both, sadly, too close to call.

DebinNC

Voting for Brexit or Trump requires an Indiana Jones type "leap of faith", but the alternatives are certain death.

Maybe McTurtle knows there aren't the votes for any of the measures although I've given up trying to determine any comprehensible strategy.

If you live out west you cope. A golf club in Phoenix, where I was once a member, had a local rule that said that any snake, gila monster, tarantula or scorpion lying "through the green" was to be considered temporary ground under repair and granted free relief in a 15' radius.

The same rule is informally accepted for alligators in Florida.

Gentlejim

maryrose,
"Ryan is not dangerous."
You forgot your sarc emoticon there.
How can you believe that when he's doing everything possible to continue to push through 404's agenda. Who cares that he said he'll vote for Trump when his actions and words prior to and following that statement contradict it? What's the old saying? Actions speak louder than words.

DebinNC

McConnell is no dummy imo. Maybe he's setting traps that pay off in November when so many R senate seats and so few Dems are up for grabs.

Old Lurker

"setting traps that pay off in November"

That is his strong point( positive comment cheerleader please note)
Also still negative comments about Cruz and he has been out of the race for 5 weeks.
I think Rubio is a go for Senate in Florida.

OL
We have bloggers who say Ryan is sabotaging Trump
Also concrete facts not in evidence.

DrJ

Sabotage? Of course not...

House Speaker Ryan Offers Republicans an Out on Trump

House Speaker Paul Ryan is giving fellow Republicans a hall pass to withhold support for their party’s presumptive presidential nominee.
...
Mr. Ryan, in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, said it is his duty to try to unify the GOP by backing businessman Donald Trump. But he indicated he wouldn’t try to force others to back him.

“The last thing I would do is tell anybody to do something that’s contrary to their conscience,” Mr. Ryan said. “This is a very strange situation. This is a very unique nominee.”

maryrose

DrJ,
According to many not very many people are listening to Ryan or McConnell
Trump stated he is disappointed in McConnell.
Just what does he expect him to do.
They are not blocking his nomination and I think at this point we need to see some polls where he is you know actually beating Hillary.
Maybe even just one.

Threadkiller

Negative comments about Cruz?

Where?

I am more than willing to go off on him if you would like.

Threadkiller

Name that intact spine from the 2014 campaign trail:

"That means we can pass the spending bill. And I assure you that in the spending bill, we will be pushing back against this bureaucracy by doing what's called placing riders in the bill. No money can be spent to do this or to do that. We're going to go after them on health care, on financial services, on the Environmental Protection Agency, across the board. All across the federal government, we're going to go after it."

Gentlejim

What McConnell and Ryan should be doing is walking the halls and grabbing every R member by the back of the neck and squeezing until they get assurance that they will either enthusiastically support Trump or stfu. It seems pretty damn simple. If you think they are not blocking his path to the WH the way they are acting you are nuts.

Buckeye

They are not blocking his nomination and I think at this point we need to see some polls where he is you know actually beating Hillary

And if you don't what is your recourse?

Vote for Hillary?

Gentlejim

I was going to suggest that McConnell and Ryan grab nuts and squeeze, but so many R members of congress appear to be lacking the requisite nuts.

Buckeye

Will the polls tell you how to think

Buckeye

?

Porchlight

Hey everybody, been out of pocket since Thursday, what did I miss? ;)

I can't believe anyone is defending the GOPe anymore.

maryrose

To be fair without the media Trump hAs a disadvantage of about 15 percent.
But he can still call into shows and hold additional press conferences.
We know Hillary is scared to death of press conferences for fear they will ask her to reply to hard questions.
Obama never liked them either and whined about too many questions.
Is the RNC withholding money from Trump?

maryrose

Buckeye:
Change what Trump is doing to get his message across better.
Emphasis on what Trump is doing.
He is our candidate who defeated 16 others.

Captain Hate

Remember how McTurtle leveraged the Kate Steinle murder to defund sanctuary cities and tighten up the borders? It was a great day for GOP leadership.

Buckeye

Is the RNC withholding money from Trump?

Don't know. What I do know is I am withholding money from the RNC, and will continue to do so until they quit waiting for the polls to tell them how to think.

anonamom

Porch, how was your reunion? Our new neighbors in FL are from Minnesota and yes, they are Minnesota nice!

I disagree.
Trump to lock it down in some swing states.Hillary has been here in Ohio.
I hope Trump visits us often.
There are opportunities in Iowa, Colorado Michigan and he needs to build up his strength already in evidence in North Carolina.
Pennsylvania would be nice but he has to prevail strongly in Georgia and hopefully in New Hampshire.
He has Sessions, Grassley ,Ernst how about the new senator from Colorado Corey something?
Has he come out supporting him? He has Cotton Newt and Guiliani and they are good promoters.

maryrose

CH
Ryan said that vote will come up again.
What solutions do you offer besides telling everyone not to talk about Trump?
Is Trump going to take on some of the expense.
Hillary'sgot ads running in swing states.
I have seen some Trump ads.
When is the speech trashing Hillary going to be?

clarice

A great video from The Onion:http://www.theonion.com/video/breaking-news-some-bullshit-happening-somewhere-16928

Gentlejim

The way I see things it is not the nominee's job to get the party to fall in line. It is the job of the party's leadership to get the party to fall in line whether you are talking about an election or legislation. Trump, like him or not, is the nominee. The party should be all out for him. Like someone posted earlier. The only thing I admire about the Dems is that they are in lockstep support of their nominee. The time for pissing matches is over.

Threadkiller

When is the speech trashing Hillary going to be?

Trump could win this if Ohio ever gets Google.

Captain Hate

What solutions do you offer besides telling everyone not to talk about Trump?

Beasts of England

There have been dozens and dozens of total articles linked about Ryan and his dangerous agenda. Such articles are linked on a daily basis.

Here are, one more time, just two items that they covered: a) Ryan stated that Obama's agenda would not be 'impeded' during the remainder of his term. That's dangerous. b) Ryan continues to fund - and may provide tens of millions extra - Countering Violent Extremism (CVE). They've published documents claiming that right wing whites are just as dangerous and violent as Islamic terrorists. Except they don't use the terms 'jihad' 'Islam' or other such terms - as they're forbidden. That's dangerous as heck - and Paul Ryan lets them be funded. Dozens more examples abound.

Paul Ryan is dangerous. QED

I would have more respect for Ryan or McConnell were they to simply say they oppose Trump, period.
Instead they play the sly game of "I don't want to look too disloyal cuz it might my hurt my poll numbers, but hey who expects the Speaker or the Majority Leader to actually try and get the troops in line? The rest of you guys can do whatever you want because we only whip members when it's to pass some bill Barry and the Dems agree to not to get a Republican elected President. But hey, we're voting for him; wink, wink, nudge, nudge."

I hate but can respect an honest spitting cobra.

maryrose

Iggy
It is Trump,s job to rally the Republican Party and whip up the masses to vote against Hillary.
Until I see actual problems the funding is what it is.
Nothing gets done while on August break so what 5 weeks of Congress left?
They are a representative and a Senator respectively not weasels.
If they are not so over the moon that is the fault of Trump.
The very first thing a CIC has to know how to do is communicate with everybody. Trump defeated a lot oft heir friends in a nasty campaign and many just don't like him.
The fact that have endorsed him is enough.
Let us focus on the task at hand.
Trump needs to go into that convention in a month ahead of Hillary in the polls.
Whatever has to be done to make that happen is the first priority.
Where has Manafort been the last couple of weeks.
Everytime Hillary gets slammed her attack dogs are out there immediately spinning.
Bring on the attack dogs.
All I see is the beginnings of a blame game to excuse Trump for not winning this election.

maryrose

Trump is talking about Hillary's failures 24/7 and needs to keep that up.

maryrose

How is debate prep going.?
Is he going to trounce her in the debates.?
Will there be any debates or will Hillary demur?

Threadkiller

All I see is the beginnings of a blame game to excuse Trump for not winning this election.

That is more than TLG sees, so you have that going for you.

maryrose

Sessions is fine but all his representatives and Senators that endorsed him need to get booked on shows like yesterday We are a month away from the convention!

maryrose

What is the Plan B if Hillary refuses to debate him or if the Dems decide to Torricelli us?

Gentlejim

"Iggy
It is Trump,s job to rally the Republican Party and whip up the masses to vote against Hillary."

WRONG!!!!!!!!!! (Starting to feel a little GUS today)

Trump whipped up the people and won the nomination. It is the Party's job to whip their members and further support.

Miss Marple

This is the same problem every GOP candidate has. The Dems are trying to define him so that he gets no convention bounce.

Trump is still campaigning because it bypasses the media, sends out signals of popularity with the crowd, and masters the news cycle.

I don't know if it will work. It's a different strategy, though.

clarice

Jack is Back!

Maryrose,

She can't refuse to debate the Donald.RNC and GOP have agreed to a series of Presidential debates and a VP debate.

It is not Trump's sole job to rally the GOP. They have a responsibility per their by-laws to support vigorously their presumptive nominee. Ryan the lightweight, needs to get over his miserable record of appeasement and debating and recognize he is not the leader of the Republican party any longer.

I am amazed that Trump has shown such patience in re Congress and especially their leader, Ryan. What would Reagan do?

Ryan is more dangerous to Republicans in tight election fights than Trump is and he needs to buck up or resign.

Buckeye

So Lynch thinks putting the facts out there is a bad idea.

Time for some propaganda, that's the answer!

buccaneer morgan

well it worked in sanford, why not down the I4 corridor,

Porchlight

Marlene, reunion was fantastic, thanks. Something like 42% of the class showed up. Spent time with a former roommate I hadn't seen since graduation and with lots of other close friends. Made a few new friends, too.

Aside from some eyerolling typical PC type stuff, it was politics free for me, but I did have to avoid a couple of conversations. I talked with my "new" conservative friend (didn't know each other at school, met at the last reunion) and he is pretty close to neverTrump. Oh well.

Captain Hate

Rodham's ads by those parents of a handicapped child being used by Team Cankles to illustrate what a horrible person Trump is need to be turned around by some Benghazi clips showing what a horrible leader she's already shown herself to be. Or some Haitians being used as a pretext for some Rodham family graft.

This is no time to pull any punches with this obscene harpie no matter what the GOPe Amy Vanderbilt/Emily Post Guide to Losing Graciously might dictate.

Texas Liberty Gal

GJ -"It is the job of the party's leadership to get the party to fall in line whether you are talking about an election or legislation."

It would be a hell of a lot easier for them to get that done if Trump would stop with his inflammatory statements. He's making it so much harder for the leadership to do that. I know its been hard as heck for me just to get myself to back him.

Threadkiller

Then don't.

Gentlejim

"It would be a hell of a lot easier for them to get that done if Trump would stop with his inflammatory statements. He's making it so much harder for the leadership to do that."

Bullshit!!! That's a snowflake's excuse.

boris

It's not possible to be honest about current problems without making statements the MFM and GOPe will call "inflammatory".

Certainly there might be some they would agree with and others they would not. But the right to criticize his "inflammatory" statements is the same one he has to make them.

IMO "we can survive 8 years of Hillary" is more "inflammatory" than anything Trump has said.

Threadkiller

Party leadership had no problem getting out their for Mitt when he suggested that 47% of the country was worthless, when he suggested that women should be in binders, when he locked a poor dog to the roof of his car, when he went full birther to the crowd gathered in his home town, when he stuttered an explanation as to why he made some guns illegal whe he was a Governor, etc.

They could show Trump the same courtesy.

Threadkiller

...getting out there...

maryrose

TLag
I agree but remember to always include a positive comment about Trump
You get less flak if you go that route.
We agree to disagree.
Trump needs to win new voters every single day until the November election Getting the nomination is just the first step. He can't expect the Party to do the heavy lifting for him.
Ryan is not going to resign and he is not standing in Trump's way. If Trump doesn't like his support he can replace him for the convention.
Trump needs to bring his honed negotiating skills to the table(see cheerleader, another positive comment) to the table with party leaders and his advocates to craft a master plan to take out Hillary.
