daddy:

How do you post animated gifs? Or maybe, how do you find the codes to do it with?

Very interesting juxtaposition at the (presumptive) end of the last thread.

henry

So one of these horses goes to stud, the rest to the Elmers and Alpo factories?

Frau Lehrerin a.D.

JMH - I am so thankful you posted about the source of your (and my) ADD. My son fits right in, too. I always just thought I was weird different.

It's good to know "Look squirrel!" meant the difference between going to bed hungry or enjoying rodent shashlik.

daddy

JMH,

You bet! And it was an easy, clean train ride from Rome---took 30 minutes max. Definitely worth a visit. Cool thing was the Train started just across the street from the Pyramid of Cestius. Cestius was one of Julius Caesar's top generals, and in the Egyptian Campaign he visits the Pyramids and thought they were so impressive he decided to erect a Pyramid as his tomb in Rome. Roman Law said no-one could be buried within the City, so Cestius had himself buried outside and later it became part of the walls of the City, so that's why it's lasted for 2,000 years relatively undisturbed. Our Tour Guide explained it and said that some super-wealthy Japanese businessman had just paid to have the travertine marble it is made of cleaned top to bottom, so this why it looked so clean and modern to us: (Here its a bit dirty)

As for gifs, I don't know how to create them. I have an idea for what I'm looking for and then I type in "gif" in the search bar, followed by the words describing what I'm thinking of. Then I click "images" (instead of "all").

For instance, keeping with TM's Horse Racing theme, I typed in gif kill da wabbit bugs bunny on a horse and clicked on the word "Images." The top left picture option that came up was perfect, exactly what I was looking for, but too big, (it was 500 x 363) so after I clicked on it, off to the right are the words "search by image." I click on that and come to a new page which has the words under the small picture "all sizes."

I click on that and dozens of different sized images of the same thing show up, starting from largest to smallest. I scrolled down to one that is 400 pixels of less (the 400 one didn't work so I clicked on the next smallest (320 x 232). It works fine, so I copied it just like any other pic and posted it using the exact same symbols as you use when posting a picture.

Voila!

Ostia is lovely. Easy day trip from Rome.

Next trip for us beside our annual Euro pilgrimage is the Holy Land and follow portions of Paul's travels.

Just a couple of new thank you's and I'll shut up about Medicare and lab tests.

Thank you, Lurker Susie and Gentleman Jim, for your posts. I appreciate your help and interest. Also, thanks again to everyone who commented.

As far as belonging to AARP, I don't. I started out with a United Healthcare Supplement through AARP, first year. Then got mad at AARP, and called United Healthcare and said I was going to have to drop them because I didn't like AARP, and they said I could keep my coverage, didn't have to belong to AARP to continue it. Which I might not do now. :)

Regards to everyone.

daddy

If you want to get your DNA checked out, you can use 23AndMe. Then you send those results and five dollars to Promethius and get the total scoop.

Cool, Anonamom.

I thought Ridley's Genome, A History of the Species in 23 chapters was excellent. Would love to read an updated version. Caltech and I are Hirschsprungian mutants, so we payed attention years back trying to see if we could figure out which gene took a bad turn and where, way back when. Unfortunately, since it' can have many different genetic causes, that damn invisible hand remains invisible. Grrrrr$%^

Caltech said one of her best lectures by some visiting guy was somebody using human gut bacteria to try to cure autism. Said they had taken mice and been able to engineer them for having what they considered as traits of autism. Then they injected into the pregnant mom mouse a number of her fetal pups with this human gut bacteria, and the the injected ones grew up partially without the Autistic syndromes, whereas the non-injected mice appeared autistic. It sounded fascinating to me.

Gut Bacteria May Play a Role in Autism
Evidence is mounting that intestinal microbes exacerbate or perhaps even cause some of autism's symptoms

When researchers at the California Institute of Technology incited autismlike symptoms in mice using an established paradigm that involved infecting their mothers with a viruslike molecule during pregnancy, they found that after birth, the mice had altered gut bacteria compared with healthy mice. By treating the sick rodents with a health-promoting bacterium called Bacteroides fragilis, the researchers were able to attenuate some, but not all, of their behavioral symptoms. The treated mice had less anxious and stereotyped behaviors and became more vocally communicative.

JMH - I searched "look squirrel gif" and

noticed the sound has been turned off.
Copy and paste as for any picture. Just be sure "gif" is at the end of the source.
If you have always wanted to learn how to say squirrel in German, LUN's your chance. You just never know...

One of my blogs referred to Perky Katie’s anti-gun hit piece as a “crockumentary.”

Love it!

anonamom

Joan, you don't need to "shut up" about lab tests.

In my town, I can get lab tests for a fraction of the cost of what they are at the hospital by going to the local lab in town--which does most of the hospitals' testing.

You go online, order the tests, pay for them, set up an appointment,a nd get your blood drawn.

May not be the case everywhere, but certainly worth checkin in to.

You've e done a great service by bringing this to everyone's attention.

“... His Plane”, the result of his effort, his acumen, his work ethic and his determination.

He’s effectively won the nomination. The convention still a month away. It’s mid June, and yet there’s Trump busting his butt on the campaign trail, visiting key battleground states and fighting for every possible voter.

On this exact day four years earlier, presumptive republican nominee Mitt Romney was taking a few weeks off, lounging and relaxing at the spa amid the white wine spritzer crowd – having determined the visits to the unwashed masses were no longer necessary.

Not Donald Trump. Not 2016. Not this guy… Our candidate is sweating his ass off fighting against every possible adversary while the ankle biting Romney loyalists sip summer cocktails chilled with frozen artesian rain water."

I'm curious about the 23andme test. On my maternal side of the family it's a crap shoot. They were from Oklahoma and without a doubt - looking at the photographs - Indian. Skin tone, facial features - especially the nose - and, yes, beautifully high cheekbones.

But when my Mom and her brother were growing up, being Indian held such a stigma that they told people they were part black. I'm pretty sure that's cultural appropriation, although there's no record of what's true.

Tampa this morning was fantastic. A great lineup of pre speakers, including the governor, attorney general, a couple of pastors, the head of Women Republicans of Florida, and others, including Stephen Miller, Mr. Trump's chief policy advisor on loan from the staff of Jeff Sessions.

Jeff, I would not have gone if it wasn’t the proper thing for an editorial writer to do. You don’t have to write editorials. Don’t go.

There is no point to a political rally. Political rallys are like lizard dewlaps, meant to intimidate and coerce, not convince or explain.

They are a lesser American tradition, not a great one.

My husband got dental insurance for us when he retired -- his company used Delta Dental, and it was great. Don't know why he didn't use them, maybe their plan was too expensive.

I think our dental insurance now is United Health One. I checked online at bank, couldn't remember about dental. Monthly premium for both of us is $74. Pays almost all of both of our six months checkup/cleaning. So far, luckily, we haven't had anything go wrong. I have several crowns (from years ago) -- hoping no more and no root canals. I had to have one crown redone a few years ago and it was over $2,000.
