#FeelTheJohnson !!!

or whatever is trending today.

Thomas Collins

The Hill didn't need Kaine for gun confiscation cred among the base. Kaine was the logical choice because he is an of pallor male, a species with which The Hill is not polling well, who can be sold as a moderate to persuadables who don't lean hard core prog, and because he helps in a battleground state. Comrade's brigade will whine, but will suck it up and vote for The Hill come November. All in all, both Team Trump and Team Hill made excellent Veep selections.

squaredance

I do not know it it has been posted here, but the wags on the internet have come up with "Kaine and Unable".

Anway, if people in the battleground states, or the white middle class in general, are fooled by having him on the ticket, then we are doomed anyway. Selecting him is sort of childish pantomime of sectional politics; it is not even pandering.

Hillary and Co. absolutely hate the "moderates to persuadables"--they are not even "useful idiots", they are in her eyes either the dread petite bourgeoisie and Kulaks, and, should they by this, contemptible fools. She will set out to destroy everything that they hold dear.Kaine is a "Judas Goat" if ever there was one.

If this works then it really does not matter who wins: Americans will have proved themselves to be unable to even recognize their own self interests in even the most narrow and primitive sense, and will have shown that they can be mindless manipulated by the flimsiest rhetoric, sloganeering and propaganda--all completely contrary to the facts or Democrats obvious and openly stated agenda--into casting away what little is left on the great legacy that they inherited.

A Hillary presidency will in every sense strip the nation down to the bone. There will literally be nothing left to salvage.

Porchlight

If VA, which Obama twice won handily and which has since elected a Dem gov and which ought to be captured easily by a Big Gov candidate after the insane expansion in DC, is now officially a battleground state again, then I'm happy.

JMH,

I almost have to be grateful to Hillary. The Left would not have willingly exposed this ancient, deep-rooted collusion for any other candidate. They hate her that much.

Posted this on previous thread as I was too distracted to refresh.

Finally caught up on the threads while I was gone and I think trump's comment about reducing student debt was an allusion to this plan from Teaxs on the affordable BA. http://www.texaspolicy.com/blog/detail/pricing-revolution-texas-expands-its-affordable-bachelors-degree-program?utm_content=buffera46dc&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

The info on education is apparently coming from GMU law prof FH Buckley. Buckley in turn in his April 2016 just published book says his ideas on education come from Thomas Lindsay. When I looked at Lindsay he is now at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

Same group pushing for a Con Con.

TC @10:02 --

I agree with your analysis. I would add the following: I think she choose him for the same reason that vanilla is the country's best selling flavor of ice cream. It's not that many people love vanilla ice cream but that almost no one dislikes it. No one really objects to Kaine, a few folks would rather have a flavor more to their liking, but others would object to that flavor. Since she had to pick one flavor of ice cream for everyone at the party, she picked Kaine.

Ben and Jerry are being interviewed and are still smarting about Bernie's being burned by the [redacted] DNC.

Diversity is the new black:
Out on the left coast, Obama has endorsed his close friend Kamala Harris and Linda Sanchez has learned enough Spanish to cuss him for sticking his nose into CA races and accused him of the "r" word. Kamala found some elected Californians with Hispanic names to counter the racism accusation.

We had another fire in the foothills yesterday during the continuing 95 to 100-plus degree weather we are having. Mr. Frau said it wouldn't be hard to set the entire state on fire. No bullets necessary.

Old Lurker:

"And to think I used to like this guy."

As a former fav of mine, too, Steve Hayes has been particularly disappointing. Just responded to this bit at the end of his Trump Is Crazy column:

Trump supporters would pretend that your refusal to support Trump means you're backing Hillary Clinton. It's an absurd argument, of course. There are other options. This election is not a "binary choice" as Trump backers claim.
That's the pretense that really chaps me, so I wrote (and blockquote myself!):
If you believe that, you are in no position to criticize Trump for detachment from reality. If refusing to vote for Trump is the right thing to do, so is taking responsibility for the consequences of the Hillary Clinton presidency which will result. Refusing to acknowledge the latter is self-serving political cowardice of the first order. Those of us who are prepared to make the exquisitely difficult binary choice before us need no more lectures on moral courage from those who aren't.

Beautiful, JMHanes!!

That's another reason I'm still laughing about the request to convince the NeverTrumpers to support Trump - if the binary choice between Clinton and Trump isn't obvious and absolute before you finish reading their two names, then nothing can be done.

Old Lurker

You are my hero, JMH.

Miss Marple 2

An interesting thing I picked up on Conservative Treehouse and Scott Adams site is that Trump owns the downside.

In other words, he positions himself so that no matter what, he wins.

Adams said that was the deal with letting Cruz speak.

If Cruz endorsed him, Trump would win.

If Cruz didn't endorse, then...Trump wins, which he did.

I am going to be looking for more of these things as the campaign progresses.

buccaneer morgan

Trevor loudon, had the whole panoply of sacred cows, Kaine worships. So does front page.

Increasingly I think it's not worth it to try to convince NeverTrumpers. As the old saying goes, never wrestle a pig.

--To succeed with that she will need to be an extraordinarily gifted liar and have a largely satisfied, contented electorate seeking to retain the prosperous status quo.

Seem likely?--

Well, the very day after the Dems/MSM produced their "Trump = dark" meme, yet another Islamic terrorist went on a shooting spree in a shopping mall, targeting children.

So, no, I don't think the "all we need is love" theme will be an easy sell.

I think Peggy Noonan nailed it when she said the country is now divided into the protected class and the unprotected class. If you're in the protected class everything is rosy and you do want the status quo to go on. Trump is appealing to the unprotected class, underscoring what they already know--which is that the system is rigged against them. This is not a Republican vs. Democrat thing, but an average Joe and Jane vs. the aristocratic elites. If he wins it will be a huge upset of the status quo, and I don't think anyone at this point can predict where it will lead. But the thing is if he loses, he will also have an unprecedented impact, because his loss will cause the unprotected class to feel even more abandoned and powerless, and their resentment and anger will seethe and grow.

Frau Presse Verbot

I thought Debbie Dingell in Porch's link was the spawn of 90 yo John Dingell, but she's his much, much younger wife. The Trump family surpassing the Kardashians as the most searched family is sweet, given that it was the Dem enablers in the entertainment industry who created the dumbed down Kardashian electorate in the first place. Talk about karma. And then there is the whole Kennedy family and Jackie glamor thing--which was another creation of the MSM propagandists.

I don't think we should underestimate how big an impact this could have on the election. Which would a bored and jaded and careless population prefer to entertain them from the WH? A fat, ugly old harpy and her wizened syphilic husband or The Donald and his glamorous wife and children?

"One more debacle like the past four or five presidential terms, and the animals will be released. derwill, I like this good section of Black's article:

These wailing commentators should be asking why the powers that be of both parties didn’t lift a finger while 12 million illegals flooded into the country, and why the authors of these fiascos, after 60 years of triumph over the Great Depression, Nazism, Japanese imperialism, and international communism, suddenly became an elite of idiots who could not run a two-car funeral, apart from the expertise and courage of the armed forces, mis-deployed though they were.

Thank you, Clarice, for the link.

Porchlight,

I think the only way to keep enjoying the cycle is to elect Trump.

Cabinet selections! Trump press conferences!
Who will be chief of staff?
What will Ivanka's Inaugural gown look like?
Malia's first state dinner!

I am telling you that the people will want to see this go on. They are not going to give it up for Hillary and Kaine.

By the way, I felt a lot better about Pence when I saw him standing behind Trump at the press conference, LAUGHING at stuff Trump said. I think maybe he's figured out (or been told) what's going on.

Miss Marple 2

Well spotted, bunky @ 1:12.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

This from Black is what I'm worried about;

These parrots of gloom should be celebrating the fact that one of the only moderates among the Republican candidates won. Senator Ted Cruz pitched his campaign to the Bible-thumping corn-cobbers with M16 rifles in the rear windows of their pickup trucks and announced that God had told him to run.

Messrs. Trump and Sanders are the only candidates who favor universal health care, and Trump, contrary to a great deal of unfounded over-reactive comment about him, never said anything remotely antagonistic about women, gays, African-Americans, or Latinos who came to the U.S. legally.|

I will be greatly surprised if Trump is much other than not-Hillary. I hope he surprises me but as a lifelong Republican the only surprises I am used to, and have ever experienced for that matter, are of the David Souter, Anthony Kennedy Strange New Respect variety.

Rocco

I love Hillary's pick. Trump should have a field day with him. He's a Hamas supporter with Muslim Brotherhood ties. What's not to like?

Buckeye

But the thing is if he loses, he will also have an unprecedented impact, because his loss will cause the unprotected class to feel even more abandoned and powerless, and their resentment and anger will seethe and grow.

Today I am ashamed. Steve Hayes shares, mine and Scott Walkers home town. Wauwatosa Wisconsin.
Same high school for Hayes and I, and Scott's sons.
JMH, Hayes has some stones to say it is absurd to either back Trump or be held responsible for Rodham.
It's pretty simple logic. If you ALLOW RODHAM to win by your stupidity, you are responsible. Same as Rodham being responsible for the deaths in Benghazi. She ALLOWED it to happen.
Hayes is in THE BUBBLE. BUBBLE BOY HAYES.

derwill

Ig, I have no illusions myself that Trump is going to govern as a conservative, particularly when it comes to the social issues. What I hope we get from him is that he cuts through the stifling regulation crap and stupid policies and lets loose the country's pent-up economic engine, so that what was once the great American middle class can start to recover.

Also, I'm cautiously optimistic that he will at least try to nominate good SCOTUS picks, while acknowledging that no matter how good they can look on paper, they can turn out to surprise you--and never in a good way-- once they sit on the bench.

I had to find the reference where I wrote about it, but Abbott called for an Article V Constitutional Convention of the States on Friday, January 8, 2016. http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/leapfrogging-via-deceit-that-crucial-last-obstacle-to-the-long-sought-convergence-to-collectivism/ covered it and what was wrong with the statement and how it is an unabashedly prog UT prof who is behind the Con Con idea in the first place.

When I went back to find the date, I saw I had written about how the name "We the People" is a Third Way proposal created by Obama's community organizing mentor Harry Boyte. It was on how to use education to get to his collectivist cooperative commonwealth. We the People is also the name of the NEH civic education project Thomas Lindsay (that is who I linked to) headed at neh.

derwill

I also think there is a global and, yes, somewhat "dark" zeitgeist going on--kind of like a tidal wave that hasn't broken the surface yet--but one that the media and the political class are totally oblivious to. Somehow Trump felt it, tapped into it, and is now riding it. When you think about it, maybe we're lucky it's Donald Trump who caught the wave, because in spite of what his enemies say about him, he isn't evil. And think he does genuinely want to make America great again.

One more point, in 2012 the white house appointed boyte to head up its higher ed transformation template.
