I only watched the 10-11 PM coverage, and I loved what I saw.

But - as others here have noted - the coverage, especially the talkin over the speeches - was infuriating.

If Trump does win, I hope that one very early task will be a reassessment of White House press credentials. And some SEC and DoJ attention paid to the corporate parents of the major networks.

Good Morning! What a stupid story about Melania's speech.
I was one of the JOMers who switched to C-SPAN and will do so tonight.

Dave (in MA)

The difference between this and the Obama/Patrick speech similarity is that those two were both products of the same set of handlers. Patrick was Axelrod's beta test for Obama.

Marlene

I watched Joe and Mika for a few minutes, doing the work other JOMers won't do,ha. Trump's campaign is "in crisis" because of Melania's speech. I think it is the media and the left who are in crisis.

Buckeye

Just heard Issa on the radio. Said he has been talking to the union crowd in NE Ohio (he grew up there).

While the union bosses say that "yes the union endorses Hillary", they also confess that their members are voting for Trump.

henry

The talk radio #nevertrump morning guy was mental today over the rules vote (Trump cheated on the rules... while not noting the "dissidents" wanted to change the rules explicitly to ignore votes and screw Trump). That and mad at Trump people for telling Jeb! to shut up (why can't these Trumpsters just get over it!!! while ignoring all the media noise Jeb! and Romney et al were making on their own). Truly odd.

James D

The Tonya Harding conservatives are going nuts over at NR this morning. Jonah Goldberg and Jay Nordlinger are thoroughly embarrassing themselves.

I used to like and respect both of them, but they have simply lost their minds over Trump. There's no other way to say it.

sbw

Listening to convention coverage started with my very first visit to XM’s POTUS channel. The supercilious twittering sounded like catty cheerleaders. Never again.

Last evening I started with NBC, changing in seconds to CBS when they stepped all over the speeches because They Knew Better. CBS lasted no longer. Then to PBS for a second. Then to ABC. No better. Off to CSPAN.

National media outlets are a social disease. For the money and channel rights they have inserted themselves between you and the news.

AP coverage this morning is no better as the spin has overtaken the news.

Marlene

It is laughable that the media has the vapors about Melania's "cribbed" speech. They are acting like Michelle gave the freaking Gettysburg Address and Melania stole the words.

Beasts of England

Last night's convention was an '11'. It looked like a unified party to me. And I have to think that it will be an extraordinary contrast to what the poor pitiful dems will produce with their parade of thug moms. And don't think that the undecideds won't be motivated support the ticket with a positive vision of America and how to return it to its proper course. And we have three more nights!!

I think the pundits of the day, had the same reaction to Lincoln.but yes there's a new Norma and Dr evil waiting in the songs.

Beasts of England

I think Melania did it on purpose because she was jealous of her husband having all the fun driving the left and the NeverTrump chumps insane. She just wanted in on the fun!! :)

Matt

Reading the headlines it is obvious that Minitrue is in full crisis mode. Stephen Colbert seems to have made a complete ass of himself while the LA Times sought out one of the Turtles to vent his displeasure at the convention using "Happy Together" . What hogwash.

The WaPo is doing a smear job worthy of Der Sturmer. The NYT rips the "most extreme platform in memory". I guess the leftward tilt of the DPUSA has had the Journo-List all go full Marxo. It is a pretty disgusting sight to see.

Having done most of the Inspector Lewis series now, we are on to Inspector Morse.

Dave (in MA)

Gerry Callahan of the Herald and WEEI correctly pointed out that it's even worse that Trump was on the phone with O'Reilly while Mrs. Smith was giving her speech, than about the fact that Melania's speech strung together some of the same trice cliches that M.O. used.

sbw posted about a dictionary of new definitions of old words.

A good one to add to the list is "extreme" as in "the most extreme platform".

When they say "extreme", that means it is something that was universally accepted common sense and/or values not very long ago.

Meanwhile the new "normal" consists of extreme positions such as open borders.

cheerleader

sbw may have already listed "extreme", I can't remember all his examples.

People are saying Reince is crazy for saying someone should be fired over the apparent plagiarisms in Melania's speech.

I disagree and think Reince is 100% right. There's an enemy in the speechwriter camp who sabotaged Melania's speech and I bet Trump is hopping mad about it.

JM Hanes

Matt:

"Having done most of the Inspector Lewis series now, we are on to Inspector Morse."

When I saw this story yesterday, it struck me as so very British, perfect fodder for Inspector Lewis (or Miss Marple's Miss Marple): Body of children's author found buried in garden. Even the details seemed straight out of a detective series, from the 1st husband's demise to the "Gorgeous Grey Haired Widower" suspect.

sbw

Cut to the chase: the difference is that Melania meant what she said and Michelle did not.

buccaneer morgan

True but remember the first rule of fight club, keep it omerta.

Threadkiller

I agree that Reince should keep his mouth shut at this moment. He is is giving validation to the notion that is was indeed plagiarism and thereby promoting the idea that the speech did not come from Melania.

Trump never validates this stuff. He keeps the steamroller in high gear and the false narratives get leveled in record time.

James D

I disagree and think Reince is 100% right. There's an enemy in the speechwriter camp who sabotaged Melania's speech and I bet Trump is hopping mad about it.

Renice is wrong.

In private, sure, if a speechwriter screwed up, fire them.

In public, give NO credence at all to any attacks from the press or the Dems. The ONLY public response to any MSM or Dem criticism of any GOP candidate should be: "Screw you!" followed by a (rhetorical) punch in the face.

buccaneer morgan

Now Melanie is insanely hawt, so the temptation to go mean gyrl is sort of irresistable to the give.

Threadkiller

I would bounce Cruz from the speakers list and have Melania give the same speech again.

Jack is Back! (As Mr. Fixit)

I still say the Slovene language angle should be explored. Evidently, those words of her parents were spoken in Slovene, a rubric of Serbo-Croatian, and Slavic in root. She was looking for the exact or near exact expressions in English, even American English, that more approximated the collaquialisms and clichés used in her native language.

Anyone who has ever read the classics as translated by different translators in different periods of time or in English vs. American English will understand my point. If however, this was written by someone based on a interview with her in her own translation of what her parents said then that writer has a lot of explaining to do.

buccaneer morgan

Meanwhile a Columbus cop was injured with glass in his sandwich.

New thread.

DebinNC

"For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country" ... MOzo after BOzo won the WI primary.

I'm confident Michelle didn't steal that from anyone, but spoke right from her heart.

RattlerGator

Cheerleader, take a step back from the somebody should be fired position.

I think Melania did it on purpose because she was jealous of her husband having all the fun driving the left and the NeverTrump chumps insane. She just wanted in on the fun!! :)

I think they may very well have done it on purpose. If so, they are essentially trolling the left; many over there think this is some kind of major gaffe (anyone remember multiple situations like that with Donald during the primaries, hmmm?) that is going to cause real damage. Which is an absurd take. This places Melania in juxtaposition with Michelle. Now, I love Michelle's look and I think she's beautiful. Clearly, many of y'all don't. But, what I objectively know is that Michelle loses the beauty contest with Melania and, for those voters in the middle, Michelle also loses the "do you love America" contest.

That's what you call a "win" for the Trump campaign. Even if this was in actuality a mistake, I would play this as purposeful and laugh in the Democrats face all day and night.

I'd do so because this doesn't hurt Donald in the slightest. Neither does the ability of the average person to pick up on the self-evident envy consuming so many on the Left this morning.

Shut up, Reince. Let the campaign do its job.

daddy,

Everyone agrees that a few paragraphs in Melania's speech is not going to hurt Melania or Trump or the campaign.

I bet Melania's not shedding any tears over it either, she's as tough as she is tender, but I bet Trump is raging.

The problem is the mole in the ranks. That is a serious problem and I hope they root that person out, and I hope we all get to learn who it was, and who hired them.

Beasts of England

Awesome, RattlerGator. I'd love to believe that they deliberately punked the enemy with her speech by taking the news cycle away from the attempted delegate mutiny!! lol
