Public Editor ="Ombudsman" at normal papers.

AKA "Person of Ombuds", per the late talk show host David Brudnoy.

henry

Press is free to praise Hillary, else they get crushed when Citizens United is re-reviewed by the Wise Lesbian enhanced Supremes.

Not sure what difference these newspapers make when even high info millenials don't read them (sorry sbw, but that appears to be today's world).

Jack is Back!

The New York Times is the paper of record for Apple News. Surprise!

Forget the 2nd Amendment we need to appeal the 1st amendent and make it crime of felony proportions to run a newspaper of fact when it is in FACT a paper of political propoganda:)

Jack is Back!

A break for some levity. I was once involved in a similar incident but mine resulted in martinis at the bar.

FYI, there were questions on where Newt specifically criticized Trump on the last thread. Those quotes are here:

Turned away 2k at Trump Loudon County Va rally--deep blue country.

When it comes to lying, Hillary is the "Home of The Whopper".

But then that is the slogan that Billy Jeff has embroidered on his boxer briefs.

"The Times has suspended criticism of Hillary until after the election, due to the national emergency caused by Trump."

Very funny, TM!

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I just want to make sure I understand this. Someone help me if I'm off base.
Agit-Khan says he just wants to fade away and not be talking about this stuff anymore.

He then goes on Al Jazeera TV, the propaganda arm of the ruling absolute Salafist monarchists of Qatar, who support Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Nusra Front and other AQ affiliates in Syria to criticize his fellow Americans who happen to be Republicans. He also states;

During the interview, Khan, who has roots in Pakistan, said that he had opposed the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

"That was a mistake that has not served American interests well," he said.

"[Hillary Clinton] supported it, but it was the Republican party's starting and doing of the Iraq war," he added. “If I criticise Hillary Clinton on her policies, it is received well. The person who criticises is not condemned."

Yeah, he's just a sad Gold Star guy who can't really be criticized for anything because...Gold Star.

Captain Hate

But then that is the slogan that Billy Jeff has embroidered on his boxer briefs.

Surely another Clintoon lie.

henry

I'm sure that slogan ups the value of said briefs when donated to goodwill.

Other news: the Supremes stayed the ruling allowing some guy to use the girls room in Arlington VA high schools. It will get back to them after Hilligula or Trump packs the court.

Frau Rutger Gefahrfeld

Good news, Clarice.
Did you hear that Rush broke the news on Obama's Affordable Ransom Act? The government has stepped in to take over hostage payments travelers aid for Americans stranded abroad.

Barbara

I received the following copy of a forwarded email from one of my sisters (a #nevertrump). I take it as a sign, perhaps a good one, that she may reconsider.

"I’m a senior Captain and pilot with (a major airline). On Wednesday June 8, 2016, I was flying into JFK from Asia. Over Montana, we were told by the company to expect a small delay in landing since Air Force One was landing at 3:00 pm. Looking at the FMS (computer), we were scheduled to touchdown at 3:23. Luckily, we were ahead on gas by 6000 pounds. About the time we passed over Green Bay, they changed our route to go further north over Toronto and to the Kingston 1 Arrival. The closer we got to New York the more vectors i.e. heading changes we received. ATC gives vectors instead of holding patterns because they are graded on efficiency, and holding patterns i.e. delays are not rated as “efficient.” Alas, it became unavoidable, and we were put in holding over Kingston VOR. This was around 3:10, and we were given an Expected Further Clearance time of 3:45, or about 35 minutes of flying ovals in the sky.

Long story short, we landed at 4:23. Originally, we were going to be 30 minutes early, but due to Air Force One’s priority handling, we were 30 minutes late, and very close to having to divert to Philadelphia. Understand that late afternoon/early evening is prime time for international flights arriving in JFK, and we heard several flights having to divert because of low fuel. This was just in our sector, and not including all the diverts in all the other sectors. No telling how many airplanes diverted.

So why am I passing this along?

Just think of the the number of passengers that were inconvenienced, by being late and missing their connections. Think about how much fuel was wasted by the many planes diverted or rerouted, and what was the cost to the airlines? How much extra did the airlines have to spend for employee pay? I get paid by the minute. How much did this Air Force One flight and all its ancillary expenditures (for a second plane, armored cars, personnel, security, etc.) cost the American people? All because His Highness was going to be on a late night talk show.

I don’t know where he flew in from, but if it was DC, he could probably have gotten there just as fast on his Marine One helicopter. In any case, there could have been a better way than flying a massive Boeing 747 (VC-25A) for an hour to JFK.

So the next time Obama talks about carbon emissions or cutting expenses, just know that it’s YOUR carbon footprint he’s talking about and NOT HIS. And now that he’s announced he’s going to support and stump for Crooked Hillary, the American public will also have to pay millions for his travel to present a totally-biased, liberal, anti-American philosophy that hasn’t worked in the entire 7+ years he’s been President. That just really pisses me off even more.

If you forward this, please remove my name. I don’t want to get in hot water with the company. Thanks, and just thought people should know."

Similar kinds of inconvenience and carbon catastrophes occur every time that Bozo decides to visit the left coast. The 405 freeway and I suspect other connecting freeways, turn into parking lots, not to mention the difficulties experienced by aircraft flying into LAX.

Captain Hate

Agreed. I knew very little about him but I've been very impressed

Miss Marple was an early detractor because she didn't feel he measured up to the standard that Mitch Daniels set which imo is a reasonable state level critique. I think she has jumped on the bandwagon for his national performance.

Levin has sung his praises for a long time but remains stubbornly averse to saying anything positive about Trump.

That 05:36 with the bribes needs to have a whole lot of investigation.Where do the soldiers go to get their reputation back?

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I don't know if the izvestia media's* anti Trump blitz is convincing any undecideds but it certainly is stiffening my spine even further to support Trump.

Barbara - not only just close to LAX. We are in eastern LA County but very close to ONT/LA. My husband and other sport pilots are grounded from flying out of a little airport close by any time BHO and friends fly in. Many times the *entire* left coast is off limits as the Boss flies in to collect tribute. It's far more often than the media reports. The pilots know.

Ig --

Something seems to be moving voters away from Trump. Khan is likely because it is all over the news. But whatever it is he needs to put the spotlight back on her evil corrupt ways and not get into spitting contests with families of fallen heroes or with fellow Republicans.

new lurker

Brett continues his #nevertrump.

Captain Hate

The fate of Fox News was probably sealed when Rupert started having tete a tetes with the Ferret. Getting hitched to Jerry Hall was further evidence that there's no fool like an old fool. All that was left was to concoct an obviously unproveable story about Ailes, with the newly high exposure Magpie piling on, and we've reached the current crummy state of affairs.

Janet

Here's the Coulter link again - THE WRATH OF KHAN
http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2016-08-03.html

"In order to shut down a debate they're losing, Democrats find victims to make their arguments for them, pre-empting counter-argument by droning on about the suffering of their victim-spokesperson. Alternative opinions must be preceded by proof that the speaker has "sacrificed" more than someone who lost a child, a husband, or whatever.

Khan's argument, delivered angrily and in a thick Pakistani accent at the DNC, is that "our" Constitution requires us to continue the nonstop importation of Muslims. "...

new lurker

CH, It's a real shame. I have always depended on and liked FoxNews, but it is over, as far as I am concerned. The young girl from FBN who is filling in for Cavuto is definitely NOT a liberal, and I do enjoy watching her. I will watch Greta and Bill O'R. but nothing after that. I like Sean, but he's too late for me. Megyn is toast as far as I am concerned. I cannot stand her!

derwill

Let me see if I've got this right . . . The MSM has beaten the same drum for over a year now about how the GOP establishment was terrified Trump was going to win the nomination, then they were supposedly in utter despair when he did win it, plotted to take it away from him, don't plan to ever vote for him, and are Ready for Hillary. And yet now, so they say, the GOPe rather than being happy that the usual nameless sources are whispering that Trump might quit the race and give them their heart's desire, they are "panicking" at the prospect?"

Janet

More -

"Luckily, Khan had Part Two: His son died in Iraq, whereas Donald Trump does not have a son who died in Iraq, so he can't say anything.

Yes, a candidate for president of the United States is supposed to be prohibited from discussing a dangerous immigration program because Khan's son was one of fourteen (14!) Muslim servicemen killed by other Muslims in our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. That's why we're obligated to import yet more Muslims – including, undoubtedly, some just like the ones who killed his son. Q.E.D.!

If you think that doesn't make any sense, keep your yap shut, unless you lost a child in Iraq, too."

Captain Hate

new lurker, you may want to try Fox Business assuming Rupert's brats are too busy snorting blow out of stepmom's ass crack to screw that up too.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--spitting contests with families of fallen heroes-

He didn't.
Khan dude gave a speech. Lapdog Stephy interviewed him and asked him about Khan.
Said young Khan a hero.
Radical islam is the immigration question and wished older Khan luck.
Wondered why old lady Khan didn't speak up.

After Khan then says some truly despicable things about him and the media piles on, Trump essentially says "What, I can't respond to questions?" and that was days ago.

The only spitting was from Khan, the Dems, the media and turncoat, lily livered Reps.

Again, this is a manufactured controversy over innocuous comments and the stupid Reps fall for it every time.
It might make you nauseous but it makes me nauseated.

derwill

I ask again, has Trump said anything about the Khans after that one tweet? If he hasn't, then he is not the one keeping it in the spotlight.

Cheerleader reported on his speech in the last thread, Theo. I guess you must have missed it in your haste to pontificate, yet again, and for the umpteenth zillion time on what Trump should do, when if you were actually paying attention, you would know he's already been taking your brilliant advice.

new lurker

CH, The problem here in the very small town where I live is FBN is only available if I "up" my cable coverage $45 a month which I'm not willing to do just for that. I guess I will just resign myself to watching "Naked and Afraid" with my husband and/or Bravo and the housewives and below deck!

Frau Rutger Gefahrfeld

Barbara - Hillary!
OMG She has not driven a car in decades. She only lifts her hand to check her Blackberry and execute some personal matters. And I thought J. F'n Kerry was regal with a manservant to supply him a pen or sandwich on demand.

I'm in "'Cleoville" home of Pomona College and Pitzer ("You don't have to go to college. Go to Pitzer!"). I've been here as a resident since 1961 when the town was Republican. It's now solidly and painfully sustainable in rigid lockstep, and it is no longer the great place to live it once was.

buccaneer morgan

now this probably is a little autobiographical, on his part, tnt's loss is our gain I guess,

http://takimag.com/article/donald_you_ignorant_slut_joe_bob_briggs/print#axzz4Fus8S3p6

and he has to be condescending at the end, it's in the style guide,

derwill

Don't know where I got the idea what Trump said about Mrs. Khan was in a tweet. I see now from Ig that it was in an interview, in answer to a question directly put to him--which goes to show what a pretty piece of propaganda this all really is.

Well, they've got Theo and Appalled obsessing over it anyway.

Theo and Appalled are the kind of genuine concern trolls the fake ones try to emulate.

Frau Rutger Gefahrfeld

derwill, weren't there Trump interviews that added some fuel for the media firestorms? It's a magnificent "look, squirrel" distraction from Clinton's sorry candidacy..

I want someone--Pence?-- to pound that puttied putain's puss to a pulp and pronto! I have just restrained myself from posting a recent photo of the Clinton she-devil.

boris

Should note the fake ones are really trolling and the genuine ones are really just Eyores who don't understand why everybody isn't as down as they are and thinks they ought to be.

Free James D!

Again, this is a manufactured controversy over innocuous comments and the stupid Reps fall for it every time.

Exactly this. I cannot express how much contempt I have for the GOPers who continually do this's. They apparently will never, ever learn.

Just emulate the Dems. That's it. Did Harry Reid to public to trash Obama when he said there were 57 states? Did Nancy Peloai express her grave concerns when Obama embarrassed himself by not knowing how car insurance worked? Did the chairman of the DNC have a public fit and criticism session when Obama called his grandmother a "typical white person" and trashed her memory?

So why does the GOP always, always, always do exactly that?

Miss Marple 2

Home from many errands. And my AC in my car is acting up again, so I am hot and not in a good mood!

I lost all respect for Baier at the first debate. The reason was that he went on and on prior to the debate about how "hard" they worked on the questions, and when the debate happened, it was obvious they had worked hard to get questions that would damage Trump.

Mike Pence was on Fox this morning explaining how there wasn't anything wrong with the campaign, but when I came home this evening I see that his appearance has been dropped down the memory hole as far as Fox is concerned.

Well, to heck with them.

Also, Hannity spent a good 20 minutes on "what Trump must do" and is going to regurgitate his dim bulb ideas in a monologue tonight. In my opinion you all can skip it.

Frau Rutger Gefahrfeld

Iggy - the German version of making a mountain out of a mole hill is "to make a thunder clap out of a fart." That seems to fit Mr.Khan's studied, theatrical indignation, but his flatulence lingers.

Theo

Ignatz --

So let's assume that this just a manufactured controversy ginned up and stoked by a hostile media. That does not change the fact that the polls are turning against him.

What should he do to regain his earlier momentum?

squaredance

boris...they are all "fake" ones. Some of "them" are thee same people.

Only 6 more days of scolds trying to save Ryan's butt on my radio. These clowns buy into Ryan's "Better way" to make government huge and responsive to international elites.

I need more Funky Michael Coleman CDs for my commute.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--I see now from Ig that it was in an interview, in answer to a question directly put to him--which goes to show what a pretty piece of propaganda this all really is.--

I think the next day he tweeted a couple of times saying essentially "What a guy can't defend himself?"
There was nothing even mildly offensive in anything he tweeted and this was after Khan had said some remarkably offensive things about Trump and obliquely criticized Trump's wife by crowing about how his dresses modestly.

The sad fact is asshole's kids get killed in wars too.

Threadkiller

This was from Sue:

Even Gingrich, a staunch ally, is voicing concern about Trump's behavior...out loud.

I looked and I looked and I can't find this story.

Has anyone else found it?

Miss Marple 2

Theo,

His momentum is the same. See crowd at Jacksonville rally in my previous link.

What has changed is how they sample and weight the polls. They do this every election season.

Frau Rutger Gefahrfeld

MissMaple- which one of our sages here gave us Femall/Femal?

At this point I feel like shouting that there is almost nothing Donald Trump could do to dissuade me from voting for him. He can bite the heads of live chickens for all I care.
I am disappointed in the Bernie Bros who should still be howling. Scary Larry's crazy PUMAs certainly put out a good long primal scream.

Miss Marple 2

Threadkiller,

I haven't seen it. Maybe it was pulled because Gingrich posted this tweet:

Media has wildly misinterpreted my critique of a bad week for Trump. Trump is vastly better than Hillary as President.

What should he do to regain his earlier momentum?

Double down on HIS main themes. That's what drew people to him. Ignore the manufactured Khan Kontroversey. Turn media questions on same (or anything else, for that matter) into HIS talking points.

Frau,

I'm in formerly staunch Republican Glendale. Sadly, we are folded in with liberal Pasadena and Altadena as far as our congressional district goes. Our congressman is a dimwit liberal, Obama lapdog. The city itself is still a good place to live, but it's changing.

derwill

--What should he do to regain his earlier momentum?--

Raise $80 million in one month? Hold multiple rallies a day, each of which is attended by so many people that thousands are turned away? Give speeches on what a disaster Obama has been and what a disaster Hillary would be? Promise to make America great again? Point out how the media has gone bat shit crazy? Oh, wait, that is what he has been doing.

So what more do you suggest he do, Theo?

Momto2

Flashback:

Lies, lies, and videotape....

Can anyone conceive of the media doing this today? Back then it was only because she ran against O.

Miss Marple 2

I believe Old Lurker was the one who posted that.

I am with you. I am so outraged at this stupid hand-wringing and posturing that I will crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump.I haven't been a broken glass Republican since 2004. (And in thanks, the Bush family stomped on me and my people.)

Well, he could bite the head off a chicken [h/t Frau], but I suspect a lawyer might gain him more votes.

East Bay Jay

If not happy with FNC try Fox Business. Lou Dobbs waves the pom poms for Trump - if you're a Trump fan it's must see TV. Charles Payne, Stuart Varney and Trish Regan are all at least fair to Trump. And in an election year Fox Business IS politics and FNC is NeverTrump (except Red Eye).

Kat

*"Izvestia media" seems a lot more descriptive than "news media" even if it means the same thing.

Germans, who gifted us with a word "Schadenfreude" have a word that describes our media: Lugenpresse i.e. lying pres. Perhaps it is time to adopt it into English.

When I pronounce it I see images of poisonous snakes, ready to strike.

Miss Marple 2

Quotes from Clint Eastwood (link to full interview provided at bottom):

Nobody knows diddly. They just think they do. And the people that think they know the most know the least.

About Hillary:

What about her? I mean, it's a tough voice to listen to for four years. It could be a tough one. If she's just gonna follow what we've been doing, then I wouldn't be for her.

About Trump vs. Hillary:

That's a tough one, isn't it? I'd have to go for Trump … you know, 'cause she's declared that she's gonna follow in Obama's footsteps. There's been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She's made a lot of dough out of being a politician. I gave up dough to be a politician. I'm sure that Ronald Reagan gave up dough to be a politician.

When I harken back to my dad, I remember we left Redding and drove down here so he could get a job as a gas jockey at a Standard Station on the corner of PCH and Sunset Boulevard. But you travel five hundred miles, bring your family, rip up everything, and do that because that's the only job that existed. So I think, What would happen if he'd have said, "Oh, I can't do that?" Well, we'd have been begging for sandwiches at somebody's backdoor. Which is, I remember, one of the most affecting things that ever happened in my life. I was a little kid, five years old, and a guy comes to the back of our house and says to my mother, "There's a bunch of wood in the back. Could I chop that up for you, ma'am?" And my mother says, "We don't have money." And he says, "I don't want any money. Just a sandwich."

[Clint goes silent; his eyes well up.]

It haunts me when I think of all the assholes out there who are complaining. I saw people who really had it bad. There was no welfare to catch, to fill the bill there. The guy just wanted a sandwich. Hopefully later on he got a job somewhere. He was a guy trying to exist, and that's the way people were then.

Lots more. Read the whole thing!

I'm sure Barbara knows Rogan's life story which, like Janice Rogers Brown's should be in CA history books for inspiration.

Miss Marple 2

Miss M. ever since that story came out about Reuters "re-allocating" the "neither" responses to their polls, which resulted in a change from +3 Trump to +3 Hillary, I've wondered at just how good the pollsters are any more at reading their raw data. I don't think they are deliberately fudging the results, but that they might be disbelieving and then discounting some of the results they're getting because those results don't jive with 2008 and 2012 voting patterns.

Reuters chose first not to believe that such a high percentage of responders were really "neither," at which point they then proceeded from there to divide up the "neither" voters into Hillary and Trump voters, presumably using 2012 voting patterns as a model, and voila--Hillary moves from behind to ahead. But what if many of those "neither" voters were really Dems who are planning on voting for Trump but didn't want to admit to it to a stranger on the phone? Not saying that is the case, because I don't know. Just that it is a possibility.

Newt's comments were terrible. He should have known how they would be used.

What he (all the GOP) should be saying is

"Hillary gets away with real abuse of the loves ones of real heroes--she outright calls them liars and crazy people, and outright lies about what has transpired--it is not even debatable but a matter of record, and you sit here with this fake scandal made out of a Muslim who is a proponent of Sharia law, and has a business of bringing rich Muslim immigrants into the country for money? You have him waving the Constitution and lecturing away at good decent, white, that right, white, Americas whose families has filled the Military of this country for centuries? Who fill their Military Cemeteries. Then the joker goes on Al Jeereza? The propaganda arm of Muslim interests?

Where was your concern for the Constitution when the Democrats were forcing working class bakers to pay crushing fines for holding to their beliefs? Where you out there waving a constitution then?

When Marxist college "administrators" stifle free speech on our campus, are you out there waving the Constitution?

How does you manufactured "Rights" for sodomites and transvestite square with your support for Islam?

Why should we share your sympathy for Muslims when you hate the Christians who are the backbone of this nation?

Why do you hide behind the Constitution when everyone knows you are trying to dismantle it?

What about all the good American families who have lost their loved ones to Muslims? Should you have any "sensitivity" towards them? Seems like you only care about American soldiers when they are not white and not Christian.

Seem like you hate decent white, that's right, white, Americans who have been here for generations and favor potential enemies of the county to me."

That is what they all should say. They should not be making any "asides" about Trump, they not should be saying what is "acceptable" for a Republican. They should be attacking the enemy. And do not tell me that they are not perfectly well aware of the damage that they are doing.

And I as sick of his son beginning call a "war hero" because he was a causality of war. In my day they were not confused so.

Surely it is a honorable death, but heroic? So far as I can ascertain, he received no medal for valor.

That this incident has any traction at all is truly bizarre.

Hillary takes bribes to hand uranium concessions to the Russians, and the point is off the cuff remarks about Khan?

It does not smell right; it smells like there is collusion with the GOPe. They should be out there shouting this down. If Newt did this it would blow over in an afternoon. He couls shame them. If they are not shamed they will not stop this shamed assault.

He can get the spotlight as speak to Americas. Thus far he is not preforming his duty.

As far as I am concern Trump has made not "gaffes" at all; he has just spoken the truth.

All of the GOP in one voice should be coming out swinging. IMO they, along with the Dems are in someones pocket, and this includes foreign Muslim money.

I am so angry at the GOPe right now I could throttle them.

When I think of all the times I sucked it up and went along with the GOP, when I see this nonsense my knuckles turn white.

--"Some officials were afraid the timing and manner of the $400 million transfer, coming as American prisoners were released, would send the wrong message, according to those familiar with the discuss..."--

And what would the true message be, I wonder? My bet is that he used the release of the prisoners as a cover for giving the Iranians an outright $400 million gift.

It's rare to see profanity in @nytimes. But in this video, we show violent and vulgar language at Trump rallies, http://nyti.ms/2b2SmQH

I'm curious what the ratio of dials to completed surveys is for these polls. At some point if answers are unusual events (statistically), are you surveying the population or a differentiable subgroup that may be different in a systematic way that biases the results (if not makes them solely noise)?

I'm seeing a greater and greater proportion of cell phones in the mix, so land line alone is a recognized problem. What others lurk?

A look at RCP's poll averages reveals Trump's recent peak occurred on July 26th. It began declining the next day and took its greatest dive on the 28th, the night Khan gave his speech and obviously before any poll could register an effect from Khan. I'm not sure what the delay from events to poll results is but I see little evidence the Khan squabble did much to a decline that had already begun with the Dem convention. If anything the decline has leveled off as the controversy reached its peak.

Look at the polls. He is trailing and the momentum is against him. Just keep doing what got him here does not seem to be a good strategy.

And of course the media is biased and unscrupulous. Water is also wet. The dishonesty of the media is a problem that has to be overcome, not just complained about.

The sad fact that many here do not want to accept is that doing the things that ratchet the JOM crowd up to 11, or that stiffen Iggy's spine, may not be the same things that will win over people not currently committed to vote for him. If he has a plan for doing the latter it does not seem to be much in evidence or working very well.

I was waiting to fuel the boat behind a beautiful cruiser christened Mänzher Mädchen and said to the dude 'Mänzher Mädchen - is Mänzher a city?', pronouncing it as MANzer MADchen. He says 'MINEzher MIDEchen'.

Okay. I only know German from the Die Zauberflöte libretto, but thought I was correct(ish) in the pronunciation. And I didn't want to sing 'Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen...'. :)
