I'm more critical of his Castro / Malcom X shirt. If he wants to be a dbag and begin his splinter collection during the anthem, meh. But don't push this poor little me (because of skin color) #BLM crap and pine for the non-oppression of Venezuela while collecting several million for sitting on your butt.

common man

$200 M contract of which $160 M is guaranteed, and the guy plays like Tim Tebow most of the time. Can someone please oppress me half as much?

Good Morning! How about a Gov. Lepage update? After meeting with State Rep. Gattine for about 10 minutes,LePage held a press conference and said he will not resign.
Gattine, who received the profanity laced voicemail from Lepage, said the Governor should resign. Democrat leaders in the legislature released prepared statements saying LePage is unfit for office.
Gattine represents Westbrook and tonight in Westbrook,"A Rally for Deceny" will be held. Speakers include representatives from the Maine Council of Churches, substance abuse counselors and Westbrook police. The theme will be compassion, modeling public behavior for children, the drug crisis. Gattine will thank his supporters.
The LePage drama is a mini version of the Trump drama. What will he say next, who will be offended, let's organize a rally. Geez.

henry

CH, some chumps got the short straw and have to put up Yankees progaganda.

Marlene

Oh,Westbrook is the town that paid a Univ. of Texas herpetologist to identify a 12 foot long snakeskin found near the Presumpscot River.
He identified it as an anaconda. Earlier this summer, there were sightings of a massive snake devouring small mammals along the river. Then the snakeskin was found. So,either someone dumped an exotic snake which has been slithering around all summer,or it is a hoax. The snake won't survive the winter, but in the meantime, people are keeping their small dogs indoors.
The rally tonight will be held at the Riverfront Park. Ha. Watch out for the snake!

Beasts of England

I was told there would be no snakes at JOM.

Captain Hate

Since there's no way to tell if this is a ploy by a third stringer to not get cut, I'd rather they eliminate playing the national anthem at these games and in its place have a recorded message by Goodell and the owners thanking the taxpayers for willingly or otherwise financing the league,

IMO, no Democrat is fit for office simply because of what their party platform says about killing inconvenient children.

I don't see any reason for Gov Lepage to resign.

I'm shocked there hasn't been more celebrating the slattering of genetic throwback Alan Grayson in the primary and his new not-yet-beaten wife running for his old seat. Back to chasing ambulances assuming he hasn't been disbarred.

 Skeptical Voter

Ah Kaepernick. The guy had talent--of a sort. He, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson all came into the league about the same time. They all had the ability to drop back for a pass, then, if no receivers got open, tuck the ball under their arm and take off for spectacular runs.

I'm not saying that the coaches in the NFL are rocket scientists, but when they are faced with a new kind of offensive threat, they dream up schemes to neutralize that threat. They found a way to stop Kaepernick, Wilson and Griffin. Wilson and Griffin evolved--Kaepernick didn't or more probably didn't have the talent to evolve. so he's going to sit on his keester on the bench until his contract runs out.

Now as for his "brave and principled stance". I got lectured (again) on the sports page of the Los Angeles Times about Kaepernick initiating yet another valuable conversation about race that the nation needed to have.

Since this is about the umpty millionth time that such "conversations" have been initiated, I think I'll sit this one out. That's appropriate because I think Kaepernick is going to sit out most of the rest of his 49er games (unless the third string backup quarterback gets injured, in which case the coach will call for Kaepernick, because there's no one else).

squaredance

I am amazed that we are expected to believe that Hillary believe in American Exceptionalism. No doubt some focus group lead her to this, but it is so dishonest. Bet it helps her though.

She is a international commie/socialist through and through and her entire life reflects it.

Such is the world we live in that she can get away with this.

Joan

Wow! "Sitting out the Anthem" -- what an interesting topic. Made my patriotism swell all of a sudden. :) I think people like Kaepernick are sullen, spoiled, and would have a rotten attitude in any profession they landed in -- also, as far as oppression and racism, "they'll" never get over it -- it's simmering there in all of them. We went to a wedding dinner party hosted by the bride's sister and brother-in-law (he's black.) I was trying to be friendly and stepped in the kitchen (he is the "gourmet" cook in their family) and attempted to chat. Before I knew it, he'd worked the conversation to backgrounds (he grew up in Illinois, but his black father is from an island, can't remember which one; and his mother is white.) Anyway, he says to me, "why would I want to research my ancestry, ha-ha, you know, we were bought and sold just a hundred years or so ago, ha-ha, so, we don't know where we come from, who owned us, ha-ha." I just stood there, dumbfounded. Actually, I wanted to fight him, because I am sick and tired of the last 60 years of riots, affirmative action, busing, etc., and their black studies/black lives matter movement sh*t. But, I was polite, and then I said, yes, you're right, that subject is boring, my mother always said she was 3/8 English, 3/8 Scottish, 3/8 German, and 3/8 French--and we always laughed and told her that didn't compute. BUT, DO YOU THINK HE'D LET IT GO? No, a little while later he tells a story about his black father and black uncle, and black friend and his white mother, back in the 90s, having to drive through the SOUTH, and being afraid they would be stopped and harassed by the police, because, "you know", that would have really riled the police. Again, I didn't say anything, just sort of smiled.

They're eaten up with their slavery and oppression -- don't believe they'll ever completely be at peace with it.

Joan, the best answer to looping inside your head is to get out. But they won't do things. They never learned how.

Oh, just remembered, meant to tell you all, while I was at yoga, during a bit of meditation, I started praying and thought "....may the heavenly host be with Trump today, and be with our nation, (also with my family, etc.) and I thought of you guys, jom floated into my head, and I prayed 'may the heavenly host be with my friends on just one minute,' and suddenly the anger I'd been feeling, that I expressed earlier about the media, etc., just lifted.

I wanted to tell you, I am not going to dump my anger and hate of the media on you guys any more. Wish I was as witty as most of you, also wish I was as expressive and knowledgeable as so many, but I'm not. But, I will try and look for something more uplifting, if I do post, than to just bitch about my hate for the media (which I will probably still hold close to my chest.) :)

henry

For CH, from our lurking friend, this.

Robin, living the dream

Joan, a liberal friend asked me what I thought of the whole thing and I responded that highly paid celebrities, particularly athletes, don't really have the intellectual chops to comment intelligently on the subject. Then I reminded her that he had been fined five figures for calling another player a n----r, which she didn't know and didn't believe. After providing proof, she responded that black people are allowed to use that term, which makes her uncomfortable, but understands that it is culturally valuable. I would like to hear what RG has to say about that. My personal white privilege position is that I wouldn't deign to call my women friends "whore," and I don't understand the difference. She didn't respond to my verbalizing that.

Yesterday the 12% alc limit on beer in Ohio was removed; kind of surprised that the mailman's son signed it without some pearly gates admonishment. I'm glad they removed the cap even though that was way high enough for me just because it has the potential to attract more craft brewers to an already excellent state in that regard. The timing is funny because I was just reading a Beer Advocate thread about Dogfish Head offering limited kegs of 180 Minute IPA, which is really up there without knowing how high, and people were commenting that the drains will get a good cleaning out from pouring out the remainders of amateurs who didn't know what they were getting into.

Please correct me if I am wrong about NFL rules. If a player wears a New Balance logo when the NFL rules require a Nike logo, the player can be fined. If a player dances too long in the end zone, the player can be fined. If a player decides not to speak at an NFL-arranged press conference, the player can be fined. For what all I know, the prior transgressions if repeated can result in a suspension. However, in response to Colin Snarkernick's actions, the NFL hasn't said anything about negotiating for in the next collective bargaining agreement a provision mandating standing for the anthem.

CH, I think it's possible Snarkernick has a double play in mind. Snarkernick has made himself untradeable and has made it more difficult for the Niners to cut him. Perhaps it's all a ploy, disgusting though the ploy may be, because he likes playing in San Fran.

The Goodell Football League can do whatever it wants regarding player behavior. Look how many times Goodell shook up the magic 8 ball on the Ray Rice case including countermanding his just released guidelines. The owners throw a few meaningless bones to the players union just to let them pretend to be representing them so they don't have to deal with some difficult group. The problem is that the players are as dumb as stumps and go through money like it grows on trees.

OT: Saw Vince Gill and Amy Grant in concert last night in SV. He's still a monster talent. Good lord, that guy's got SERIOUS chops! His voice is as good as ever. She's a tiny thing but it pretty talented herself. Killer backup band with none other than Paul Franklin on pedal steel. Vince's guitar collection was jaw-dropping. A Gold Top with the original trapeze tailpiece, another late 50s era Les Paul flame maple top, two vintage Telies, and two vintage Strats to say nothing of his Martin acoustics. Salivation!

Did I mention we were about 20 feet from Vince? Anyway, it was the best antidote to EmmyLou's extremely low energy, emo, post menopausal drone fest three weeks ago up here. Gah.

Dave that Trump "bleach" thing is about the best example of Trump's "dumb like a fox" routine yet. Of course the appropriate response is: "What an idiot that Trump guy is!" followed very shortly by wondering why Hilary used something called "Bleach" to get rid of the e-mails that she told us all were of no consequence and unimportant and she didn't know anything about it and Colin Powell told her to do it and she didn't lie to the FBI and..why doesn't someone ask Hilary about this?

I would like to hear what RG has to say about that. My personal white privilege position is that I wouldn't deign to call my women friends "whore," and I don't understand the difference. She didn't respond to my verbalizing that.
Posted by: Robin, living the dream | August 31, 2016 at 12:34 PM

(in reviewing my draft, Robin, the subject is too complicated for quick words but . . . here 'tis my particularly biased take -- as I prepare for the arrival of a hurricane)

This is the difficult thing, it seems to me, for many white people to quite grasp and (IMHO) it helps to explain the infantilizing insistence on usage of "N-word" formulations: we, as African Americans, love the word nigger. If you don't believe that, please take a listen to the music of our youth. The youth loving the word is nothing new; it has always been thus during my six decades on this earth. What is *new* in the last few decades is the removal of a filter that kept popular use of the word out of black music.

Yes, the debate in proper black society is fierce over use of the word. But they've never won that debate and likely never will. Because we love the word! I use it regularly. I never did before I joined the Army at 17, less than one week after graduating from high school. Then I learned how grown men talked (and women, to a lesser degree, but this is mostly a black male thing). I use it with gusto; I use it in disgust, when amused, when extremely happy, when extremely angry. But I use it.

This link below I've probably posted here before; I've certainly done it somewhere because it provides a window into my above assertions.

The date is November 28, 2010 and the place is the Takoma Theatre in Washington, D.C. The audience is overwhelmingly black; they are there to see Chris Rock's "Bring the Pain" comedy tour. HBO filmed it for later broadcast and this is the show that shot Chris Rock to real national stardom. I've said the most dishonest political conversation in America today is between black and white Democrats. Well, the most dishonest conversation within and without African America that involves us as Black Americans revolves around use of the word nigger. See if you can spot the lie in how Chris Rock frames and defines the word:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3PJF0YE-x4

That is pure genius, to me. Notice how the black people LOVED the routine? I laughed my ass off when I watched it live on HBO. So did most of Black America. We INSTANTLY recognized its presumed truth. It was much more honest and raw than anything you will likely get out of a black politician.

But . . . was it truthful? No, it wasn't. It was what many of us would LIKE to be true. So, to make it true (and, this was genius to me) he traveled down the "class" route (didn't he?) in order to lie about the claimed distinction he was making between black people, in toto, and those damn, damn, damn embarrassing niggers.

If you want to understand why the black community slavishly steps up to defend a dumb ass wannabe thug like Trayvon Martin or a real-life thug like Michael Brown, etc., there it is -- black guilt. A scourge, as is white guilt.

The rap group Niggaz with Attitudes, NWA, are the spawn of the Great Society experiment in America. Anybody see the Straight Outta Compton movie? Their rise shocked and shamed the black middle class. However, they are us and we are them -- in all of the best and worst ways.

Matt

I like Chris Rock's how not get arrested piece too.

For daddy's enjoyment we have a DC-10 aerial tanker doing 150kt passes @ 1 mile away on a brush fire that sprang up @ 4:00am. Bunch of helos and 200 firefighters so far.

I think we'll be fine but it is great to see the response. On the way home from a meeting on the canyon road I saw several LA County hot shot crews on their way down.

Miss Marple 2

So far Mexican president sounds conciliatory and talking about mutual respect.

Miss Marple 2

Pino says there are areas which could use improvement in NAFTA. (How about THAT?)

squaredance

"Older whites" == people who know better; people who remember when this nation was a properly ordered society. This means just about everyone that is over 45 who is not a a moonbat, and who had a decent upbringing.

Curious though they they pick on "older whites" for I would imagine that outside of the college grad useful idiots, who are of course a relatively small group, that most of the Clinton diehards are "older whites'.

Again, it is the perennial con that Trump supporters are blue haired, knuckle dragging hicks out in Jesusland. They are not, This clearly illustrates the intense hatred the Left has for American Whites, and it is about time that this becomes one of those "national conversation".

But, that being said, it is true that "older whites", and "Older Americans" in general, do know what the Left up too. They are the last memory of what this country was and what it should be. If we cannot turn this around, we are looking at much decline, and the America that we all love will increasing reside only in the memory of those "older whites",

The Democrats, of course, think that they can rule over us without this old America. They will rule over nothing but a waste land. As I have often said, they have nothing to replace it with; they have not thought this far ahead, and this includes Herr Soros. Though clever in infiltrating and destroying institutions, cultures and people, they are essentially barbarians. Their greatest fear with trump is not some sort of setback of their plans--this they can wait out--their greatest fear is that he will show that America can be turned around, that people will again experience a properly ordered society-- that he will indeed Make America Great Again. They fear this more than even being exposed to criminal prosecution.

And we should remember that it looked equally hopeless for America just before RR came into office. All the anti US propaganda from the Viet Nam war onwards had made us think that it was over for us then too.

All it took was dedicated energy and leadership to turn it around then; perhaps that is all we need now.

hrtshpdbox

"He is acting like a president is supposed to act!"

Not at all, though, how a candidate is supposed to act. Not that I think any Trumpets would even blink at the extra-constitutionality of candidate Trump announcing that he'd struck a deal with Mexico (they'd probably think that Hillary would be bound to it if she somehow won). I'm going with the trip being based on an immense ego being flattered that a world leader had actually invited him to visit (the immense ego masks the inferiority complex, that's probably why when he went to Scotland he just talked about his resort's sprinkler system instead of reaching out to anyone important there).

jimmyk

Wait, so he's wrong to meet with a foreign leader in Mexico, but he was also wrong not to meet with anyone important in Scotland. Got it.

Incidentally, Obama met with foreign leaders during the 2008 campaign.
