Washington Free Beacon has this on what is actually going on behind the scenes re the Dakota Access Pipeline. Fairly amazing to think it may be astroturf as well:

Two green energy companies made six-figure donations to a North Dakota Native American tribe days after the tribe began protesting a controversial oil pipeline that passes near its reservation, a review of tribe documents shows.

On April 5, the Standing Rock Sioux’s tribal council unanimously voted to accept two $125,000 donations from ConEdison Development and Fagen Inc., a green energy design and construction company, according to council meeting minutes.

Jack is Back!

No, TM, you don't mean that it is perfectly all right to create a middle class in Asia and let the one here in America die, do you? Because that is exactly what has happened.

I happen to believe in relativity even when it has to do with economics. What if we had kept the iPhone assembly here and it cost 2 times more, then raise everyone up to pay for it. Its what the government and the Fed do everyday to raise up the banks and stocks in the country. Why not use the same formula for keeping mfg. here and incomes level with GDP.

Yeah, I know, now one outside of here could afford to buy the product. Well then Germany, France and Bhutan can invent and produce their own iPhone then.

Free trade is one thing. Its quite ephemeral. There are plenty of ways to unbalance the balance beam and make it cant in your direction. One of those would be to monkey with the exchange rate on your currency.

So unless and until we get to a truly fair free trade, I am not going to be too hyperbolic about a President trying to bring the balance bean back to level.

Hello Comrades!

Have been out of the loop since my husband had a bypass and mitral valve repair two days after the election. Was scheduled for surgery at the crack of dawn Wednesday after the election, but didn't want to go under the knife with everyone (himself included) working on a few hours sleep.

Oh, the gloom at Mt. Sinai/NYC with a Trump victory. Saw a screaming match between two nurses in the cardio-ICU post-surgery. And that was only Day One. But watching the news this last week has been a real treat and heart-healer.

On a recurring JOM note -- clearly the Mt. Sinai dietician has never even heard of Gary Taubes. "Promise" spread and non-fat milk! Of course I dumped those poisons in the trash.

A question for my primary care physician Anonamom -- why would a doctor prescribe Lipator for someone whose cholesterol is normal??? (This is post-surgery), and "no salt" for someone with lowish-blood pressure? Seems like this is SOP for anyone with cardiac problems but makes so sense to me.

Enough health news from a borderline lurker. Really enjoying the gloom in NYC -- speaking of which -- when & where is the NYC meet-up? And can I come?

James D

From the last thread re: registering immigrants from Muslim/terror supporting countries...

WE ALREADY DO! We register all immigrants! Is that not what it means when we issue visas and green cards and other immigration documents? Do we not keep records of the identity and country of origin and myriad other data on immigrants?

Does anyone with a functioning brain not know that we already do all that for anyone who (legally, anyway) comes into the country to try and stay?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Having watched so many people even here in Indiana fall out of the middle class, I don't feel too cheeery about that emerging middle class in Asia.

Why did we have to help them do so? Couldn't they have done it by their own efforts?

Nope. I am America First. Free trade is fine if there is no cheating, but with the Chinese, they are always looking for ways to cheat.

When I was a kid, my father supported 5 children with his small furnace and sheet metal shop which had 3 employees.

My mother didn't go back to teaching until I was in the 5th grade, because they felt the need to save for us to go to college. As it was, she could afford a babysitter/housekeeper who came to the home.

Now it takes 2 incomes even for families who live frugally and only have 2 children. Families are falling farther and farther behind. If they are blue-collar, they live in constant fear of layoffs. (See Carrier of Indianapolis for an example.)

These trade deals have proven to be not what was advertised.

I think Trump needs a chance to try things his way.

My top ten moments of President (elect) Trump's very nascent administration:

1. Kept Hillary out of the White House
2. Nominated Sessions for AG
3. Kept Hillary out of the White House
4. Kept Hillary out of the White House
5. Nominated Pompeo to the CIA
6. Kept Hillary out of the White House
7. Appointed Flynn for NS Advisor
8. Kept Hillary out of the White House
9. Appointed Ebell to EPA transition team

and...

10. Kept Hillary out of the White House

Tonto, prayers for your hubby! FWIW in January I heard the head cardiologist at Hopkins suggest statins for all regardless of bp, claiming he takes them himself. All I got from my brother (head of cancer at same place) was a shrug and maybe. The big thing was a CT scan for arterial plaque... apparently the best way to tell on future cardio disease. That bit made sense.

Beasts of England

That's an impressive job, henry.

I am so excited that Trump is dominating the news cycle and that Hillary and Obama are yesterday's news.
Hillary's recent disheveled look is the precursor to her disclosure of her real illness in a ploy to angle for a pardon and sympathy.

I don't expect my younger one to be running a major center at Johns Hopkins, henry, but she's a cool chick, nonetheless. Thanks! :)

I had to go Downtown to pay a parking ticket, long story, on my way I see 2 large white buses. This being Las Vegas, big tour buses are a very common sight. As I passed them, I noticed that they are DHS buses, Immigration more specifically.

I finished my business and as I am driving back I pass by the County Jail, where the two buses where parked. To my amazement they were being filled with illegals immigrants. In the ten years I have lived in this town this is the first time I have seen this happening.

Matt - deplore me if you must

I believe that ceiling fell in on he, BoE. From her look she's been on a 6 or 7 day binge. Chocolate, Ice cream and brandy Alexanders. Muttering to her self and throwing whatever is at hand at Bill across the room.

We first married, we lived in an apartment with a large patio on the lower level. Above us, we found, was a very bitter and drunk old lady. The most amazing things would come crashing down onto the patio. I never knew anyone had so many knick knacks.

Finally one day she got hold of a baseball bat and went down to the parking garage below and whacked 15 or 20 cars real hard, breaking windows and bashed in door panels and headlights. They carted her away and we never heard from her again.

That, I think, describes Hillary.

henry - drunk on prog tears

Point 1---Has Ben Shapiro discovered yet who viciously grabbed Michelle Fields and yanked her to the ground?

Point 2---About 6 months ago Dennis Prager had on Ben Shapiro as a guest. They are good friends and you can tell Dennis cares deeply for the young man. The benign interviewer Dennis did an excellent job of giving Ben every opportunity to explain why Ben thought the election of Trump would be worse than the election of Hillary. Ben has a sharp tongue and a brain that races along at 100 miles an hour, and put his points out there, but ultimately portrays Trump as a man unwilling to denounce the KKK; as a version of Hugo Chavez; and as a non Hitler type who may wind up as a Hitler type. Here's the 30 minute Audio of that if anyone cares: Show 1454 Dennis Prager and Ben Shapiro The Never Trump Movement April 2016)

Here's my transcript of Ben's take on reality at minute 10 on Cory Lewendowski, so I use that as a sort of benchmark as to whether I accept Ben's perception of reality later in the interview.

Shapiro: Here's my fear about Donald Trump, here's my real fear. I have a couple of fears about Donald Trump. One is the idolatry of Donald Trump that I am seeing as a human being. There is a certain segment of his following that is willing to green light anything he does. I'll give you an example. Two nights ago, Trump wins Mississippi and he wins Hawaii and he wins Michigan. And his campaign manager is in the rope line with the reporters. And he grabs a reporter named Michelle Fields, he grabs her by the arm, and he tries to throw her to the ground. Right, and she reports this, right, she says that, that they try to do this. I've reported this today. Trump followers have come back with "Right, but the Press deserves this."

Ben Shapiro's take of reality and my take of reality differ from each other, but he's a big boy who can speak for himself and I welcome Dennis prayer giving him that opportunity. Personally I consider Ben Shapiro's Anti-Trumpism, like I take most of the #Never Trumper's "#NeverTrumpism" as hysterical.

Upon thinking about it, I think Ben Shapiro is the Right's counterpart of Barnie Frank. Both have an amazingly prickly nature that is set at a hair-trigger setting to attack opponents with an amazingly rapid speech pattern, loaded with venom, but that hair trigger attack mode is what keeps opponents off the too somewhat off balance and retreating, as it is personally "offstandish," if that is the correct term.

OFF THREAD

Apologies in advance JOMers if I am violating a protocol here with a public share about health.

My intention isn't to bombastically pronounce "the wonder of me."

The heart and health issue is near and dear. Thanks!

Tonto--- thoughts and prayers are going up for you and yours this evening.

I survived a rolling 5 day bout of congestive heart failure back in October 2014.

It was the booby prize for having a vicious escalating case of Type 2 diabetes.

The incident lasted five days because I was traveling for business and was diagnosed at a free clinic as having walking pneumonia

Boy was I surprised when I got home and my GP ran an EKG and showed me the good and bad news.

A week in the hospital found me getting 4 stents installed.

I dropped all the statin, blood thinners, and bp meds on May 6, 2016. On the same day I walked away from 200 units a day of insulin, 1800 mg of vicodin for diabetic nerve pain, all in all about 5 pounds of powder and liquids *PER MONTH* for treating the heart and the diabetes complex.

Radical dietary measures were implemented and are outgoing. I don't eat anything out of a box, cellophane wrapper, or that used to walk around or swim. Not a religion or ethical choice....it's for my survival (I have 2 grandchildren and 3 living children and a beautiful wife.)

Supplementation also. Besides eliminating the Vitamin B complex deficiency, the Vitamin D deficiency, and the Magnesium deficiency operating against me, there were two specifics that have helped my heart make significant strides in the last six months.

Special treatment for the blood (and therefore to control plaque buildup anywhere-- even in the brain) is a combination approach: 5000 units of ascorbic acid at bed time (offsets the body's reflexive creation of cholesterol to patch, which it overdoes) for assisting repair of arteries sans cholestorol; and "proteolytic enzymes" which have a chelating effect especially on the tiny blood vessels that arterial disease (and related complexes) destroy with clogging.

My cardiologist has upgraded my condition from "critical" to "controlled" after six months--- with concurrent dramatic weight loss and consistent detoxification of the endocrine system we expect a 99% recovery from the incident. I sustained zero tissue damage miraculously.

My GP orders all of my labs and discusses results.

My specialized care is provided from an out-of-state MD from Columbia University. He creates all of the herbal and remedial supplements I take in the treatment of both conditions we are reversing right now.

My message is intended as a message of hope.
If I sound like I am preaching, then you have my unconditional apology.

Our bodies have common attributes. But, as I have learned from solid medical teachers who don't drink kool-aid, we are all unique when it comes to reactions/responses to environment and food, as unique as our fingerprints.

There are no one-size-fits-all diets or prescriptions. Medical liberty practiced one's own behalf is paramount to healing, longevity, and peace in one's heart.

May y'all find your way into full peak health.

"We live because we heal and we heal because we live." --- That's my aha! realization from within my shallow open grave from 2 years ago. And it is the focus of living today: heal thyself. Peace be with you!

Dammit, this GD software ate a post about finding out I have type 2 diabetes after being on a statin (my cholesterol is in **great** shape though); barely over the limit but still. I was one POMF discussing it with my doc and this isn't the most opportune time of the year to go on a radical diet change (Mrs H's fondness for pasta will be flying solo from now on; amazing she's not the one..) but I'll do what it takes.

She's an unperson, PD. Or as one of my liberal Facebook friends just noted: Trump's appointments are all white men! Oh, boy.

glasater

It is the Democrat party..Not the Democratic party.

There is Nothing democratic about the Ds.

Thank you.

KevlarKid

A word of what I've found out about statin drugs: they compromise the liver because there is a toxic load on this vital organ.

Also, I've learned that the liver will store excess glucose as one becomes more insulin resistant, a condition that can be brought on by excessive (for the individual in question) meat consumption over the years.

So, we who have eaten our fair share of the yummy stuff are generally candidates for statins. There is a logical association with Type 2 onset and statins; but that's kind of like saying the sun comes up because the rooster crowed.

I'm not anti-big pharma or anything like that. But statins are a huge earner for the corporate medical sector of the economy. Diabetes is a double digit billion dollar earner.

That doesn't make the arrangement an evil one. But I found that for me it is an unnecessary one.

And don't get me started on Type 3 diabetes, more commonly known as alzheimer's disease. BIG BEANOS!

Let's win the war.

Re: All Trump's appointments are white men.

After shopping for groceries and experiencing the double digit rise personally in food prices since the Bath House Rat "took power", as his subjects like to say, I always turn on NPR to listen to the source of this ridiculous inflation in agricultural prices paid by we, the People.

Today's knuckleheads sitting in with Judy "My Hair" Woodruff were David "Piwi Kiwi" Brooks and some wannabe progressive newbie editorialista filling in for Mark "Bucky" Shields.

The Piwi Kiwi was yammering on about how impressive the resumes of POTUS-elect's appointments so far. "But, will these men begin to work against each other as time goes on?"

Piwi! Buhbby! Don't worry your pretty balding noggin over what these stud hosses are going to be doing in the real world. You just continue to wander the routine 50 feet from your NYT office each evening on your way to your town car *KNOWING* there are real men manning the wall that separates you from the bad guys. They will actually survive the rivalries and disagreements and blood feuds that arise in circles you will never be asked to sit with and lend an opinion. Capice?

As for the wannabe editorialista chick, "We have to be concerned on a number of levels ."

The moment this cottage cheese came through my dashboard speakers I heard Judy "My Hair" Woodruff say with concern "Your concern is quite nuanced I gather. Tell us more."

Oh do tell. The big knock on the appointments is that the evil "Daddy Trump" doesn't really mean that he wants to "heal the divide" among the American people "like he said he did." (Okie dokie.... it's all about her evil daddy now.)

She didn't disappoint. "Donald Trump's appointments *prove* he is not serious about healing the divide because his appointments do not *look* like *America*."

The cottage cheese was gurgling out of the speakers so thick and stinky I had to turn it off and carry my groceries up the 32 steps to my front door. (Our home sits up off the street and I don't want to have to hire any Ho-zayz to build an electric tram like some of the neighbors like to do. Good for my heart anyways. But I digress.)

I am glad about two moves, especially, that Trump's made: Laura Ingraham and Steve Bannon------> seasoned media professionals who will be lethal weapons against this press obsession with chatty cathy verbal diarrhea.

There needs to be at least 3 White House press strategies: #1--> Feed shrapnel infused cupcakes to the press pool and media houses; #2---> dispatch razor wire sharp press releases about everything the press will seek to attack so that it leaves them bloodied when they touch it; #3---> talk directly to the American people every day through some trusted White House ally in order to put the MSM on the defensive. As long as they don't have a corner on the information they have to *prove* that what they are saying is *accurate.*

DebinNC

You're not whining, CH. I asked, and you kindly answered.

RE: http://abc7chicago.com/news/what-trump-has-said-about-a-muslim-registry/1614963/

The media hysteria over internment camps and tracking the Religion of Peace via databases will serve their agenda which seeks nothing more than to delegitimize the Trump presidency.

Such busy little queenmakers.

The solution, as I see it here from the safety of my livingroom, is to aikido those dumb bunnies.

Give them a wider field to play their media game where they say things such as "...but you're not denying that you're in favor of ....."; "but you said that you were in favor of...."; and all the rest of their breathless pressiness.

Swat down those gnats. That's Laura Ingraham's job. Swat them down but develop an avalanche of alternative media pieces for distribution directly to the American people based on the nonsense the press is asking about or alleging.

It's known as "delimiting" the problem. A proper defense of one's position has to include coverage of *what we are not going to do*.

Might seem ridiculous but it isn't--- at least until one fails to do it. Easiest way to put this is when one wants to "Keep warm" one delimits by *closing all the windows* because what we are not going to do is let in cold air.

That takes away the press's thunder to propose silly, unrelated ca-ca like Megyna Kelly and her internment camp nonsense. Give those delimitations to the American people *DIRECTLY* so when Jake "The Media Blapper" Tapper brings up some ludicrous pecadillo from the Nazi era, he ends up in front of his dwindling viewership and the critics with his gherkin in his hand thinking it is a microphone.

Easy peasy.

Time for some sparkling water and to see how my bride is doing on this lovely Friday evening.

Let's win the war.

Dave,

I have diabetes in my family. My solution was to give up sugar and most refined flours. I eat a lot of protein and when I eat bread it is rye with little sugar.

So far I have kept my weight down in reasonable ranges and don't have diabetic issues. I don't take statins because when my BP doctor recommended them, I had a reaction so discontinued them.

So far am chugging along.

Jesus H criminy frickin sakes, what a day.
My schizophrenic son was acting pretty odd yesterday, as in odder than normal.
So I stop in this morning to check on him. He's in just his boxers and obviously agitated. I ask him hoe he's doing and he is completely distracted and keeps saying he needs to be saved because the voices are telling him they're going to kill him and he's going to die.
He stood up and was quite obviously going to drop his drawers and after me telling him not he did anyway.
So then he said he had to go next door to tell the other tenants his crimes so he can be saved. I told him if he walked out the door like that they'd take him to jail.
I tried reason, intimidation, sympathy and trying to convince him I was Jesus so he'd listen to me but nothing worked. I told him I'd knock him out if he walked out the door but...the whole problem was I'd left my phone in my pickup and so to summon help would have to let him out of the room.
I knocked him back down on the bed several times but he'd just pop right back up. Finally I relented since I had no choice and tried to get his neighbor across the hall to call 911 and before he came to the door there's John, Buck tooth naked banging on his door too.
When he opened the door he was a bit taken a back but I explained as best I could...to be continued....

My pizza was a "bar pie", something that a lot of bars and taverns offer in the towns south of Boston. They're 10" and made in a pie dish, but they're not deep dish pizza. Do they have those elsewhere?
