Guys, even though the Travis County judge is a loon (her mother was an aide to LBJ and Molly Ivins) she is not a judge in the usual sense of the term. The county judge in each county is the chief exec of the county. Sort of like a mayor is to a city. The woman is a typical Austin nut but thank God she has no judicial role

Just in: Homeland Security Secretary Kelly names Thomas D. Homan as Acting ICE Director, replacing Daniel Ragsdale

Since 2013, Mr. Homan has served as the executive associate director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). In this capacity, he led ICE’s efforts to identify, arrest, detain, and remove illegal aliens, including those who present a danger to national security or are a risk to public safety, as well as those who enter the United States illegally or otherwise undermine the integrity of our immigration laws and our border control efforts.

I'm listening to Levin's audio tonight for the first time in a long time. Anybody thinking that he isn't on board with what Trump has done would be well advised to give this a hearing. He demolishes anybody who thinks that Trump isn't well within his power as President to do much more than what his executive order stated. He also states that the GOP is on notice to cut the crap of trying to make cheap points by acting like democrats.

A bunch of the less butthurt commenters were saying things like, "I agree with the EO, but not with the chaotic rollout." How much of the chaos was Trump's fault vs manufactured by the media and protesters? And are they going to now have the satisfaction of being able to produce chaos every time Trump does something beyond saying "Good morning?" That's not a victory I want them to have.

About the only thing I can think of that was possibly mishandled was the green card issue. From what I understand, that may not have even been part of the EO, and in any case it seems to have been quickly clarified (not "reversed" as the NYT put it).

I know...deep in the heart of the male Trump supporter....there's a begrudging respect for Sally Yates. Think about it.....she stood up to a tyrannical government for the sole purpose of defending the united States Constitution.... and paid the ultimate price for being a patriot.

Sally Yates.

You're trying to demonize and hate her but deep deep down....she epitomizes the true Conservative spirit of telling big government to go fuck themselves. Sally Yates would make Ronald Reagan proud.

Republican men hid behind rocks and shook in their own urine......while Sally Yates carried a sword and went after tyrannical big government.

glasater

Yates could be disbarred.

Account Deleted

Sally Yates was fired for incompetence. A constitutionally valid executive order with precedent established by a prior administration's legal execution of it was something Mustang Sally was bound by law to uphold.

Instead, Mustang Sally abdicated her responsibility and violated her oath to uphold the laws of these United States. That isn't a patriot. That's criminal.

And she played to the mob. Something she wouldn't be able to do had she been consistent under Obama. There wasn't any mob protesting the same suspension.

dublindave

"Sally Yates was fired for incompetence"

Your Mom was fired for incompetence. Right or wrong or hate her motives, Sally Yates served both Republican and Democratic administrations for 30 years. Republicans publicly stated that she was someone with unquestionable integrity and the Trump administration personally requested she stay on as acting Attorney General.

She's made you angry, I understand that. But make no mistake that Yate's reasoning for going up against the President of the United States was based in her belief that she was DEFENDING THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION.

"Yate's reasoning"...that's rich. She gave an opinion unfounded on fact or the patent legality of the EO itself.

"More importantly, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations would no longer be able to engage in "political speech" which could theoretically affect the results of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election without running the risk of losing their nonprofit status. The move effectively bars interest groups from creating nonprofits which they could funnel money into for the purposes of opposing Trump's initiatives. This will likely create chaos for political opponents of Trump such as George Soros, who has sunk significant amounts of money into various nonprofit groups with the intent of opposing Trump's government. How 501(c)(3) organizations will comply with the FEC's regulations when participating an actions which qualify as political speech remains to be seen."

Chinese friends say they hear that the Trump Admin purposely chose not to issue a standard "Happy Lunar New Year" message this year.
I'm not finding a White House statement that provides confirmation or refutation.

Chinese New Year is widely considered an apolitical holiday, many many US citizens of Chinese descent voted Trump out of disgust for Hillary so they're disappointed.

Could be a conscious act by Trump Admin to show concern over Chinese policies.
Could be overlooked during a busy week, just not a priority.
Could be State Dept officials not bringing it to the attention of the Trump Admin in order to undermine them and cause friction.

Orange crowned cock crows.

Heh, JiNC, the Chinese are aware that there is a 'New Year' about.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

JimNorCal,

My guess is a combination of 2 and 3. I think there is someone in the White House who is supposed to handle stuff like that, Office of protocol maybe?

One other thing: I have had trouble locating statements on the White House web site. It might be there and not easily located.

I am trying to think about how best to contact them so they get the message quickly.
Tweeting to Spicer, Conway, or Priebus would just get lost in the thousands they get every hour.
