Beasts of England

Cecil Turner

Unquestionable truth.

Beasts of England

I see it's Limp 'Bizkit'. How unhip of me...

Blame it on AutoCorrect.

or on Rio

Beasts of England

I'm not sure why I even remembered that 'band'. Will have to check Spotify to see if I'm jammin' to any of their tunes.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

McCain, Graham and Rubio gnashing teeth and plotting another "dossier."

For Cecil, the link to the study on non-citizens voting:

In spite of substantial public controversy, very little reliable data exists concerning the frequency with which non-citizen immigrants participate in United States elections. Although such participation is a violation of election laws in most parts of the United States, enforcement depends principally on disclosure of citizenship status at the time of voter registration. This study examines participation rates by non-citizens using a nationally representative sample that includes non-citizen immigrants. We find that some non-citizens participate in U.S. elections, and that this participation has been large enough to change meaningful election outcomes including Electoral College votes, and Congressional elections. Non-citizen votes likely gave Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress.

If you want to read the study and don't have access to Science Direct, you can find it via Google Scholar. I would note that it's based on 2008 and 2010 data, as I understand it before California allowed illegals to get drivers' licenses and use them to register to vote.

Jack is Back!

The main Saturday action is that a kid from MM's Indy, named Patrick Rodgers, is leading the tournament at Torrey Pines. He is killing his drives at the clip of 311 yards.

Why are we limping?

I see the WSJ has taken to partner with WaPo, NYT and the networks in their criticising of Trump as fumbling from the start. Yeah he may fumble but its always his ball and he can fall on it if he wants to or let you try to pick it up and run with it. Unfortunately, its made of pig grease.

Frau Bürgerrecht u. Wahlrecht

Thanks, jimmyk; you're *my* favorite.

Do we know the psi of Trump's football? Asking for a friend in Boston.

Aw, shucks, Frau, you're the best.

Looks like they are walking back the green card conundrum. There are always snakes in the woodpile until you chase them out and make it a real burnable rick of sticks.

The fault line they have is a passport for a Belgian or French who's names are Mohammed but there citizenship is Belgian or French.

Obama didn't invite the North Atlantic Treaty Organization when he claimed the Atlantic Ocean, either🙏

I see Jack takes his self far too seriously.

I wouldn't want to see Frederick separating himself from his Bard but it is inevitable, even for the lucky JiB. Luck eventually runs out, especially for clueless engineets.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Good luck with duals. Canada will recognize them (they're even giving away Indian land trudeau and his AFN stole). US won't. So,now, your claiming to be a foreign national...

J. Fredd Muggs

I am not a troll since Hamrabe died we can't stand anyone who is not one of us including professors. But he comes closest to our family than anyone here.

Look forward to more of this in Trump's 4 years. BTW, I can attest he has no simians but he did they would be wonderful and special.

MM @5:34, reminds me of the famous Rick Monday video:

Via Instapundit: THE TRUMP EFFECT: FedEx: We’re not punishing our driver who intervened to stop a flag-burning.

The AP claims Trump EO today banned lobbying for 5 years, lifetime ban for lobbying for foreign governments for admin officials.

If truth snuck through their censors, it looks like a good thing.

Ain't no goombas like the goombas in Brooklyn.

Those guys are what the Dems are scared of. Ordinary middle class, even in NY, who are up to date, not LIV's, and know when they are getting screwed.

Can't wait for the Schumer rant.

Great story about Matt Uhrin daddy.

Kudos to FedEx for doing the right thing.

My readers are telling me these grouos are springing up all over to "resist the Trump agenda."

Apparently fundamental transformations may not be reversed.

matt, deplore me if you must

Can you believe that Maggie Haberman just stepped in major dog doo with perhaps the tweet of the month?

Not only are they arrogant, but sooo stupid.

My heart sank when I read this a couple of weeks ago. Story reported, then disappeared from sight, but just think of his access to the LIV. He's actually moved to center and now says he's not an atheist.

Clarice Feldman

I love mystery posts, matt.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I don't think he has it in him to really run. It sounds easier than it looks. Money isn't all that you need.

For one thing, the guy has zero charisma. For another, the electorate is already a lot smarter than they were just a couple of years ago.

Trump drops one of his 3 SCOTUS candidates because Senate won't confirm. How authoritarian can you get? #DND

Deplorable Don continues to knock it out of the park... finding corresponding attributes on Insty and Pres Trump.
(Quoting Napolitano) Then (Trump) ordered a truly revolutionary act, the likes of which I have never seen in the 45 years I have studied and monitored the government’s laws and its administration of them. He ordered that when bureaucrats who are administering and enforcing the law have discretion with respect to the time, place, manner and severity of its enforcement, they should exercise that discretion in favor of individuals and against the government.

From LurkerSusie's Kevin Drumish link:

According to her sources, Senate Republicans have convinced the new president that Pryor’s nomination would not succeed based on his outspoken pro-life position

I imagine it would be less "ridiculous" if we had a named source or even a quote from Trump himself?

Where might I find that LS?

I can't even find a Trump or an Administration quote that the choices for SCOTUS were narrowed down to 3.

Seems like more horseshit.

The Gipper Lives

"We limp into the weekend."

Actually, it's the weakened that limp. Like Hillary after this spanking:

"Let’s dispense with the fiction that you would have treated me with any less contempt if I had bothered to live up to any of your standards of decency in the first place, and acknowledge that they have nothing to do with decency per se, and everything to do with power. Your presumption of any moral superiority is a willful, bald-faced lie, and I’m going to keep calling you on that crap until it puts me in the White House."--David Ernst's Postmodern Trump, the Federalist

clarice, I believe matt is referring to a tweet by Haberman claiming that other than San Bernadine, there have been no homegrown terrorist attacks in the US since 9-11.

Here you go TK

Oops, Forbes says 4

buccaneer morgan

Shirley she can't be serious. Boston and Orlando Co e readily to mind

I'll start with Forbes:

Most observers think he’s already narrowed down the field to four or possibly three...

In other words: "we have no direct quote from Trump or his Administration."

Should I waste time with the other links?

Yes, MM, I agree Zuckerberg has zero charisma, but I've noticed that same phenomena on the left/liberal side. :) Am sure he'd run as a Democrat and the liberals, morons, and people going crazy/insane about Trump would flock to him. Honestly, who exudes charm and charisma on the left? Warren? Sanders? Schumer? Kerry? I study them and am usually repulsed. And I don't think the Democrats are perceptive. I never saw the magnetism in Obama. In observing him, I thought him arrogant and a fraud. I mean that about his surface appeal. I always thought him a sissy. He didn't have any accomplishments. And the real kicker that cemented my dislike for him was his vote to deny palliative care for aborted babies. I despised him after that.

Anyway, I'd be afraid of a Zuckerberg run for president, knowing the inflamed left and his billions. :(

buccaneer morgan

She's missing those rizzotto trays something fierce

The only named person a the Clownhall link:

Leo declined to discuss Trump’s short list, but he praised both Gorsuch and Hardiman effusively.

Week 1 of Trump
1.) China says war with US is a possibility
2.) Muslim Ban without telling any other agencies, causing chaos
3.) More people at protest than at his inauguration
4.) Underwater approval rating

This is the start -- can only get worse. good job guys

NPR skips any citation:

The Trump administration has begun to float specific names for the high court's vacancy.

No source? Big surprise.

Business Insider/AP has a new one:

A person familiar with the selection process said that the three judges, all white men who sit on federal appeals courts, were on the list of 21 potential high court picks Trump announced during the presidential campaign.

Person familiar...

Beasts of England

@Cecil - I apologize for the name calling and language earlier today. It's a bad habit in real life, and I'm trying to correct it there, too. Anyway, you didn't deserve that and it won't happen again. Mea culpa.

Newsweek is by far the most clever:

Since Trump’s inauguration, his team reportedly has narrowed down that list to three finalists

WTF does that mean?

Mitt Romney reportedly didn't pay any taxes. Harry Reid said so.

matt, deplore me if you must

Aww, clarice. I'm sorry. i thought it would add an element of mystery.

I have a feeling that Maggie Haberman is going to be a dog whistle over the next 4 years. Being caught as a Clinton propagandist and now being just plain dumb as a rock about the national origins of terrorists.

Uh, Maggie? What do they all have in common you dunce?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

HIllary spent 1.2 billion against Trump. She had the media, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, universities, the democrats, Soros, Wall Street, and 2/3 of the GOP establishment (who if they weren't going to help her stood on the sidelines hoping Trump would crash and burn so they could have a shot at 2020).

Trump had the people.

Zuckerberg has not only zero charisma, but opposes immigration reform, which happens to be something the people want. He is all for H1B visas, which his company has abused. He got his copany by stealing an idea ( which was settled with a sealed settlement).

Unless he takes a course in getting a personality, there is no way he can connect with the working class people, even if they use Facebook to collect grandkid pictures. He doesn't even LOOK presidential.

Besides, Trump knows what he is doing and knows who the threats are in 2020. I am puttin my money on the guy from Queens.

You know you're being screwed when the perp asks for permission to screw you again

Turning Iraqis who helped the military during the war away at airports ---- unbelievable.

I guess this is what you should expect when the party of god moves forward a candidate that is the embodiement of the seven deadly sins.

The party of the military -- turning its back on those that helped us in war. good job again.

LSusie: "Trump drops one of his 3 SCOTUS candidates because Senate"

Maybe he can put Pryor forward for the next opening, say when Ginsberg retires. After all why not have one pro Life out if the nine? Is that so extreme?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

It's unfortunate that the Iraqi translator was detained, but he has now been given the ok.

No word on the Afghani translaors who as far as I know are STILL waiting because Obama wouldn't let them in the country. Maybe President Trump can do something about that.

I think the problem with Prior is not his pro-life position, in fact I think all the candidates share that position. It's an issue of a result which was legally, constitutionally, and conservatively appropriate, but not liked. I believe he allowed a transgender women to go ahead with a sex discrimination case, which under the existing law was the correct decision.

Now one of the issue most conservatives have with the SC, is the liberals tend to make law, as opposed to interpret law. And IMO that is a terrible and inappropriate thing. But it's the liberal interpretation of the constitution as a "living document".

Prior refused to do that, which I think was the correct decision, but the result (as opposed to the method) was not one conservatives like. So that appearance may have cost him the job.

Wonderful Don Surber link! Thanks Jim. Great read.

I still click on Instapundit close to as many times a day as I click on Drudge.

MM, you are persuasive. :) I won't worry about Zuckerberg any more -- and, I was actually worrying about something four years away and also something I have absolutely no control over. :) Why do I do that? :)

buccaneer morgan

William Goldman ( chronicler of the division)'s
Aphorism 'no one knows nothing' is operative, and those who know aren't telling.

No room at Shippy's so we did La Charlot. Steak Tartare and Frittes.

Another memorable night. Big Crowd. No politics. Just people enjoying food, drink and each other. Nothing on the TV and phones on the table.

Why can't we just get along? Because no one is serving a good steak tartare?

This was the Haberman tweet:

Aside from her ignorance, there's a basic fallacy that comes up in these discussions. Voxsplainers and others on the left say stuff like "You're more likely to die from _____ than from a terror attack." Fill in the blank with "white male citizens," "lightning strike," whatever. Even if true, how are those arguments against preventing attacks by immigrants?

Thomas Collins

I think the big pic on Pryor is this: If Trump nominates Pryor, any conservative who helps sabotage him is fit for the insane asylum. Pryor is as eminently qualified to be on SCOTUS as anyone Trump might pick.

You do that because of something called "gaslighting," which is stuff published just to instill fear and demoralize.

Zuckerberg hasn't said one thing about running or even thinking about it. The whole thing started because the agitprop organization in DC (the Washington post), is cranking out 2-3 negative stories about Trump and ideas for defeating him, every single day.

There is all sorts of stuff on the internet with the same purpose. Some of it is stuff like you read, some of it is stuff like "Trump's West Wing in chaos" or "foreign policy in disarray."

Some of it is really vile. A friend called me today to tell me that she had received 3 retweets from liberal acquaintances about how some psychologist had decided Melania Trump was abused because she frowned after Trump turned around to give his speech. This is like the long-distance diagnosis of Barron as autistic. It's all designed to demoralize and make you doubt.

Look at what Threadkiller is pointing out. Almost all of these stories cite unnamed sources. In my opinion every bit of it is made up.

Bannon knows full well how the media operates, and he and Priebus are not going to run a loose ship. Trump prizes loyalty, and the people who are with him are very, very loyal.

So, what I do is imagine myself as Indiana Jones, tied to that post when they opened the Ark. I let the demons go by while I keep my eyes tightly closed. (In other words, I ignore everything that isn't sourced with names and doesn't have facts.)

Hope this helps!

Thomas Collins

I would have thought Pryor's decision in the transgender case would have been considered a plus by the Senators. It's a clear indication that Pryor believes in applying the law, not his view of what the law should be.

Thanks, Jane, where are you getting that from? The Hot Air link only talks about his abortion/Roe v Wade stance? Scalia also sometimes did the kind of thing you describe.

I don't think any of the nominees Trump is considering, except maybe Hardiman, will get 60 votes. And I seem to be not the only one who is concerned that Hardiman will prove to be another Anthony Kennedy or, God forbid, Souter. I fear that's the only reason he might get 60 votes.

Is there a seasoning that offsets the tartare, sort of like with sushi.

Can someone post the actual Hagerman tweet as I'm blocked from following her even tho I don't ever remember ever reading or following her on twitter.

Other than San Bernardino shootings, has there been a terrorist attack involving a non-US-born attacker since 9/11?

Doesn't really matter, tlg, even callimachi is reading from the same hymnal

One thing I've been wondering about is where are the checks & balances on the Supreme Court? If I remember correctly I was taught that there were 3 co-equal branches of gov't and there were checks & balances on each. So if the Supreme Court makes a ruling shouldn't Congress be able to overrule it with 2/3 vote of each house?

Media is in a frenzy flinging crap to see if any sticks.

Not going to slow Trump down.

Thanks, lyle.

The constitution provides a very powerful check on SCOTUS TLG. Congress is given the enumerated power to restrict Federal court jurisdiction, including SCOTUS's, with the exception of SCOTUS's constitutionally described "original jurisdiction" which is rather limited.

Congress chooses to fairly rarely invoke this power but it is there for a purpose.
