I always find it hilarious that present day progs who call FDR's "total war", that rained indiscriminate death on city after city and millions of civilians and allied us with a mass murderer who made Hitler green with envy, The Good War and those people The Greatest Generation, but now think a single casualty makes their case for their newfound, politically-generated pacifism.

"Get her name , rank and serial number and report her to the proper US authorities."
I have read a story about someone fired from the Trump WH for badmouthing a member of the Trump team and he just went back to his government job. IMO, this is worse than insane.

"But current and former administration officials say Deare’s termination was linked to remarks he made Thursday at a private talk at the Wilson Center, a Washington think tank. "

Last night I watched Charles Laughton and John Mills in Hobson's Choice. I didn't want it to end, I wanted it to go on forever.

Re the Yemen story, what is left out is as important as what's in, the strategy page piece I linked earlier suggests there was some sigint that underlay raid but the Al jazeera piece along with Al raymi doing the best ground hog impression from caddy shack suggests he may have been tipped off, perhaps some source in the pso

Did anyone watch Tucker Carlson and Bill Nye on Tucker's show last night? What happened to Bill Nye? I remember him as Bill Nye the Science Guy who made science fun and interesting for kids. He's mean and nasty now. At the end of the interview he said to Tucker,"do you want to know why there are leaks? Trump has two factions in the White House who don't like each other."
How would Bill Nye know that bit of information? I thought about (cue scary music) "the call is coming from inside the house!" Ha.

James D

But, but, but...they LOVE the environment! They would DIE to protect those sacred lands!

http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/dakota-access-protestors-leave-abandoned-frost-bitten-dogs/

Old Lurker

I watched it in awe, Marlene. Tucker FINALLY got him to state that but for human activity, the climate today would be pretty much exactly as it was in 1750. Now since Nye also said that ice ages seem to happen every 10-15,000 years, how could both his claims be true? And since the Little Ice Age was just winding down at his 1750 date, how could that all that fit into his settled science.

Finally Nye stated without waffling that because of human activity, we will never again have an Ice Age...but I am sure that Kim has promised us "...we are cooling folks...how much even Kim does not know..."

The remarkable thing is that these sorts are not even embarrassed by the inconsistencies in what they say.

henry

The guy is an actor, not a scientist. Why expect anything different from Nye than Streep?

Old Lurker

Henry,

While Nye is not a scientist, he was trained as an engineer I thought, and I am sure the JiBs of the world are offended by that. Then again, engineers do design buildings which fall down from time to time. They really should use more of those steel thingies which never melt in fires.

maryrose

President Trump hits paydirt with his Pelosi is incompetent comment.
He really has a knack for hitting each individual's Achilles Heel.

Jane

Congratulations Maryrose. I missed what it is for, but it sounds like an anniversary.

Is tonite the "State of the Union" address? No one is calling it that, but I thought there was one every year. So as always, I'm a little confused.

(It occurs to me that until Trump no one was prepared enough to give a SOTU address after 1 month.)

Old Lurker

Maryrose, I also loved hearing him blame the disruption and leaks on Obama and his burrowed in moles.

Right over target as usual.

Marlene

Hi Jane! It is really hot and humid today. This must be what summer feels like. I think Trump's speech is called "A Message to Congress."
Stay cool!

Clarice Feldman

It's not just JOM. AT is unreachable for me and this morning yahoo mail was, too. Something kinky going on.

henry

Lindsay to State's rescue. femall

Old Lurker

Jane, in DC-Speak, the annual State of the Union Speech is not actually anything required by Law or the Constitution. An annual report from the POTUS is, and in the past they were just written memos. Then TV came along and it became a media event each February even though every new president knows he has nothing to "report" in his first one ... so those have become just TV opportunities to talk to the nation with the whole Congress in the room about his plans and hopes.

Old Lurker

Lindsay knows that Appropriate Bills are drafted in the House, not the Senate, right Henry?

Jack is Back!

That Graham tweet tells me that once the house provides those appropriations, specifically Defense, EPA, State and Education that the #neverTrump contingent led by McCain/Graham and the Dem resistance will counter offer and it will go to conference.

And that is where Trump has most of the chips. He has the house and he has Treasury. But he won't use the phone and pen but rather his negotiating skills. Will they work in a political versus business environment is the question.

Old Lurker

Jack, he also has the ability to manage a shutdown in a manner that suits his agenda, just as Obama did, but with a much different set of goals.

Also as you know well, the Conference Report cannot be amended, only an up or down vote.

Should be interesting.

rse

So without an approved Oligarch in the White House suddenly the problems of the Right and Left Pincers using of the behavioral sciences is being discussed. https://behavioralpolicy.org/can-trump-resist-the-power-of-behavioral-sciences-dark-side/

Of course only the Right's use is being discussed and its omnipresence in Preschool to higher ed now in the definitions of Learning, achievement, success, outcomes, etc are not mentioned.

Maryrose, politics is people. What kind of "People" do you think McCain and Miss Lindsey are?? Nice? Honoroble?? They are ego centric "politicians". They love the camera and themselves. McCain was once a Patriot. He's chased money and fame since then. Lindsey Graham is creepy as creepy gets. I give him credit for serving in the Army, and nothing else.

That spillway damage is beyond aged concrete spalling but rather a subsurface issue. Do they get any shakers up there because it sure looks like a lot of bedrock shifting. Severe under-scoring from all the hydraulic flow.

I am going to be really, really steamed if the White House site doesn't work tonight.

Jack is Back!

Works now.

If you ever read the excellent book "The Third World War" by Sir John Hackett is about how the Soviets would launch an armored attack through the Fulda Gap. What saved the World was the battlefield deciveness of American battlfield commanders versus the Soviets who depended on political officers.

In the middle east under a late Bush 43 admin and all of the Obama admin, the shoe was on the other foot.

If Trump/Mattis can revert back to pre-2001 ROE's we will win bigly.

Squarepusher - Theme From Ernest Borgnine (8'01")

What does one call this type of 'music' ?

What a great actor, Ernest Borgnine; I remember watching an interview with him on Travis Smiley's show (!) on AFRTS/AFN one day in the compound in Baghdad, what ever comes on is it. He was a ten-year Navy vet too.

And a Republican (whatever we infer that label to mean; time and place I guess.)

Outstanding movie. Laughton was doing method acting 20 years before method actors.

Check out Laughton in 'Witness for the prosecution' and 'Ruggles of redcap'. Those 2 movies, a bottle of scotch and a roaring fire are all a man could ask for.

Maybe your airline uses an Amazon host, CH.

Old Lurker

Have I mentioned lately what I think of Mitch McConnell?

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that a budget that slashes State Department funding likely wouldn't clear the Senate.

Asked if a budget that cuts the agency’s funding by roughly a third could pass the upper chamber, McConnell told reporters "probably not."

"When we get to funding the government, obviously it will be done on a bipartisan basis," he said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration’s budget would cut the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development by roughly 37 percent.

Stressing that he was speaking for himself and not the caucus, McConnell added that the "diplomatic portion of the federal budget is very important."
"I'm not in favor of cutting what we call the 150 account by that amount," he said.

The 150 account includes international affairs funding..."

Old Lurker

When did this become the way it's done?

"When we get to funding the government, obviously it will be done on a bipartisan basis," he said.

Jack is Back!

Knowing O'Hare, it has to be ATC related, CH. Weather is a good excuse and the FAA uses it a lot. When you are trying this time of the day to stuff 50 pounds of air traffic in a 5 pound area, you will get delays.

Welcome back to the 'real America".

Election of Democrats has consequences.

Election of Republicans requires meeting half way, right?

What was I thinking?

Jack I saw a story yesterday that explained that any time a congress person wants to travel overseas, they simply tell the State Department and State acts as their private travel agent. State pays all the costs and none of them are charged back to Congress or to that Congressman's office. No budgets. No accountability.

Nice, huh?

It's going to take some getting used to, but President Trump is not a strict partisan.

Wilbur Ross said at his swearing-in ceremony today that he was gratified by the high level of bipartisan support that he got in the Senate, and that bipartisan support would hopefully move the nation forward.

I don't think that either Ross or Trump mean bipartisanship with the far left Democrats, but instead with the moderate Democrats, thus freezing out the far left. Divide them and conquer.

Old Lurker

Call his bluff and invite him to the WH for a private lunch with Trump then film the sucker racing down PA Ave to get there.
