Great comments on the last thread. Just wanted to plug this one from Janet again:

I think the Dems are gonna sink to new lows in their celebration of Obamacare not being repealed.

Already I'm seeing memes & jokes & celebrations.

I agree. The Democrats still don't know why they lost (and that includes 2010 and 2014 as well). Why would they gloat about the millstone around their necks? It's not getting any lighter.

They are so happy for a political "win" after getting stomped by Trump that they will celebrate the continuation of the misery that they caused. Does that sound wise or decent?

Dems need to work on a new narrative for Obamacare's decline. Something along the lines of "Republicans failed to pass Healthcare so they're taking their frustrations out on 'O-care' by sabotaging it".

We need all the news outlets to keep running with this, day in and day out.

The President just tweeted that "I hope and pray that Obamacare implodes".

Democrats brilliantly played you. Paid protestors shipped in to create a sense among Republican house members that their seats were in jeopardy if they vote for this bill.

It worked.

And then King followed up with a peculiarly phrased question: “I would just say on that because, again, we’re not going into the classified sections, that indicating that historically Russians have supported Republicans, and I know that language is there, to me puts somewhat of a cloud over the entire report.”

First of all, that's not a question, numbnuts. PD

Phooey. Posted this on the previous thread.

I am more exercised than this indicates, but I thought it best to try to be reasonably polite.

Dear Speaker Ryan,

Please find enclosed a fund-raising letter I recently received from you. As I consider it, the AHA bill before the House to repeal and replace ObamaCare has just been pulled from a vote because you don’t have the votes to pass it.

In other words, we’ve had more talk but no action.

You have the opportunity the lead the House and your fellow Republicans in an historic effort to get this government-healthcare behemoth off the backs of U.S. citizens. President Trump wants to help you do it.

The citizens of this country HATE ObamaCare. We want you to get rid of it. (My own position: I want a bullet to its head; a stake through its heart. I want the individual mandate vaporized. If you want to replace ObamaCare with something better, okay; but I want it GONE.)

The Republicans have had literally YEARS to arrive at a bill to dump ObamaCare, and now that you have a President in office who also wants it gone, you cannot pass a bill?

Your letter to me begins: “Let’s show the world what American leadership can accomplish.”

Yes, let’s. I have heard you address many times the need to replace and repeal ObamaCare. And what do we have now? More TALK. No ACTION. Let’s see the leadership to which your letter refers.

So when I see your letter request a contribution, I think to myself: I have contributed to you in the past (even though I am not in your district), but what has been the return on my investment? Are you getting the job done? Is ObamaCare on the way out?

No, it is not. So, NOT ONE MORE PENNY, until I see some results.

Thank you,

JimNorCal

Well said, PD.
There is a contingent in the Repub House delegation who need to get off the fence and decide: are they going to represent Dems or Republicans. Would seem to be a simple choice, but there we are.

Captain Hate

I keep holding out hope that Ryan can learn from these experiences. I'm probably being unrealistic.

jimmyk

From the last thread:
She told me, for example, that maternity care was being done away with. I just stared at her and said that can't be true.

I haven't looked carefully at the RINOcare plan, but I suspect the reality was just that maternity care would no longer be mandated. Which makes total sense: Why should 55-year-old couples be forced to include maternity care in their health policies? In fact, why should maternity care be in "insurance" in any case? It's only because of the tax benefit of shoving as much into the plans as possible.

More generally, I don't know why there should be any mandates at all.

jimmyk

Does the Freedom Lobby have an alternative plan? I know Rand Paul had one, I don't know if that's the basis for the next step. I'd rather the Rs push a plan that fails because Dems filibuster, than one that fails because conservative Rs don't like it.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

This is the ONLY tweet from President Trump about healthcare this morning:

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 2h2 hours ago

ObamaCare will explode and we will all get together and piece together a great healthcare plan for THE PEOPLE. Do not worry!
-----------------------------------

As you all can see, President Trump doesn't "hope" it implodes. He says it "will explode."

There is nothing that can be done to save it. It was purposefully set up to implode so that Hillary could bring in single payer. Only there is no Hillary (praise God).

Myself, I think they should work on a bill which makes more sense, pass it, and let people choose which system they want.

Here's a question on yesterday's doings that I saw on CTH:

sbw

My comment on ACA and those who would blame Trump:

“We tried to help rescue ACA, but Democrats in Congress preferred to see it fail.”

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Captain Hate,

True. It did make me think, though, because at one point Mulvaney told Ryan the president wanted a vote. I know that occurred and a couple of reps changed their votesalong about that time.

I also note that they tried to make it that Trump asked the vote be pulled, when, in fact, that was Ryan's suggestion.

I am probably overly suspicious, Captain Hate.

Comes from being told "That's not who we are" one too many times, I guess.

Progress of sorts.

CH, I meant to add, there's a sort of mindset that if the government doesn't mandate/provide/subsidize something, then it won't exist. As if everything we have comes from the government one way or the other. We saw that when people were saying that if it weren't for the NEA, "Hamilton" wouldn't have been produced. (I think they meant that as a plus for the NEA.) About 50% of the public doesn't understand or trust private markets.

Jack is Back!

David, Infamous Deplorable

It was sort of disturbing to watch Patterico (who I used to read because he is a blogger local to where I live) go completely off the rails with regards to Trump. The most surreal part was watching his reaction to the first 9th Circuit judgement on the "Muslim ban." As a prosecutor, he has always had really harsh words for the 9th when they get out of bounds, and this time, he was so busy fellating them and talking about their "measured legal judgement" and "careful considerations of the issues" that I almost threw up. What a hypocritical douchebag!

David, Infamous Deplorable

Clarice,

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. The thing that still absolutely amazes me is how perfectly Donald Trump functions as a demasker. If Barack Obama was a blank mirror that people projected their fantasies on, Donald Trump is a giant microphone that somehow forces people to blurt out their real feelings regarding the United States, its citizens, and its government, and an amazing number of people turn out to have great contempt both for their fellow Americans and the constitutional system we live under.

The complete lack of self-awareness of these people is astonishing.

Repeal

Then worry about replacement at leisure -- perhaps never.

That's my guess.

But, they also appear to be willing to compromise -- maybe Ryan should consider doing a little more work.

Maybe Ryan should consider sending a pure Repeal bill up to Trump in order to get things rolling.

That is, if Ryan is sincere in wanting to fix this.

lyle

I think that was a Rush cognomen, indeed, Capt. The PJM story links to a CNN (of course) video which I didn't watch but the article says that Rodham Gergen is pushing the line that Trump can't "prove" he was "wiretapped." [redacted] douchenozzle.

From last thread:

Rand Paul: "I don't see a reason why we can't work next week, the week after, the week after, but we should work on repealing Obamacare and I'm going to continue to be for that as well as replacing it,"

Skoot at 10:29 am

Exactly. This was round one - dictated by Ryan's ham handed way of bringing the bill forward while insisting he had 218 votes needed to pass it. He had to go to the President for help - a major change in the power structure as far as Speaker Ryan is concerned.

I don't believe for one moment that President Trump will abandon his plans to repeal and replace O-Care until it reaches it's expected catastrophic collapse. The Democrats' celebration is not only short sighted, it will be short lived.
