narciso,

I have been reading down through the comments on that Treehouse piece all morning. Lots of additional information in the comments.

That is why (at the end of the last thread) I said that it appeared that they were trying to set the President up with an obstruction of justice charge. Two or three commenters on that article made just such a case.

Also, it is probably why the President spends weekends away from the White House.

Captain Hate,

Unlike many here, music doesn't occupy my mind. To me it's pleasant background, but my mind wanders when listening.

Talk radio was a real blessing for me, as it gave me something to think about while I did mindless chores like housework and laundry.

Now, however, I am down to just a few programs I can bear to even listen to. I find many of them are so off the mark on what is really happening that I don't trust anything they say.

And the ones who threw their lot in with the Never Trump crowd I view as sworn enemies.

Look at that tweet I posted: she considers those who oppose their never-Trumpism PLAGUES.

And I did go read Charlie Sykes' article. Basically, he complains that Trump has no overarching policy (I guess he missed that "Make America Great Again" theme) and is nothing but bombast (which proves he watches nothing coming out of the White House.

Sykes is apparently auditioning to be the next David Brooks. What a phony!

--Yes, Miss Marple, there's been a lot of voluntary "unmasking" in the last couple years.--

Hasn't there, though?
I was just thinking yesterday Trump should be in the dock for unmasking since he has caused an untold number of people I formerly thought sane, rational and able to distinguish between political opinion and personal character to demonstrate they were just putting on an act all along.
I've lost one good personal friend and several good online ones, not because I have "unfriended" them for their insane rhetoric but because I pointed out their rhetoric was unkind and unfair. Their response was to ratchet it up and intentionally choose snuggling with their weird animus over a friendship.
As I think about it they were all women and their response indicates they all, to some extent, view themselves as victims.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Hey, does anyone remember that Time article I posted the other day about The President After Hours? It was on Time's web site.

Someone on Treehouse pointed out that smart tv's can record.

In that article, the President makes a big deal of taking reporters into the private dining room and showing them the new <60-inch TV he has had installed.

Why did he show this to reporters? Why did he invite time, including the execrable Zeke
Miller? It seems odd he would call attention to a television.

So, there are two choices.

1. The President taped everything through that TV.

2. The TV was installed and controlled by Comey for recording whatever went on in the dining room, and Trump (probably through Guiliani or Admiral Rogers) discovered this early on.

Either idea is intriguing.

We went to Chuck E. Cheese one time. That was enough. We visited NH one year around the time of the daughter's birthday. My mother planned a party for her at Chuck E. Cheese. The reason it is seared in my memory is because earlier that summer the daughter had been bitten by a dog on her face. She still had a visible wound and I cringe just thinking about it. The Chuck E. Cheese birthday party was a success and the dog bite healed after a scar revision surgery.
Just saying the name Chuck E. Cheese brings a flashback of her little face. The scar isn't even visible now.

The Fix Analysis
The ‘Merrick Garland for FBI’ scheme shows why liberals lose
By David Weigel May 12 at 11:50 AM

Judge Merrick Garland. (Evan Vucci/Associated Press)
We live in a golden age of political stupidity, but I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this: The idea of pulling Judge Merrick Garland off the D.C. Circuit federal appeals court and into the FBI is one of the silliest ideas I've seen anyone in Washington fall for. It's like Wile E. Coyote putting down a nest made of dynamite and writing “NOT A TRAP” on a whiteboard next to it. It's also an incredibly telling chapter in the book that's been written since the Republican National Convention — the story of how Republicans who are uncomfortable with the Trump presidency gritting their teeth as they use it to lock in control of the courts.

On Thursday, as we reported at The Washington Post, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) gave real oomph to an idea that had been bouncing around conservative media. Democrats had vetted and praised Garland when President Barack Obama nominated him for the Supreme Court — how, then, could they object to the idea of putting him in charge of the FBI?

[Sen. Mike Lee floats Garland for FBI, a move that would skew D.C. Court of Appeals]

The reasons to object were quickly explained by reporters and by liberal court analysts like Dahlia Lithwick. “Garland probably won’t want to give up his lifetime tenure as the chief judge of the second-most important court in the land,” Lithwick wrote, “and surely the most significant bulwark against Trump administration overreach, in exchange for a 12-minute gig on The Apprentice before he uses the wrong color highlighter and gets fired by a crazy person.” Among most court-watchers, the scheme was pretty obvious: Lee would give Republicans a chance to tweak a Garland-less court, changing a 7-to-4 liberal majority to a 6-to-5 majority. And in his tweet, Lee was explicit: If Garland went to the J. Edgar Hoover Building, Democrats wouldn't need a President Trump/Russia special prosecutor.

Supposed to get a drenching nor'easter out here but so far crickets. Raining down island but not here yet.

Ben

Only seven days after Donald J. Trump was sworn in as president, James B. Comey has told associates, the F.B.I. director was summoned to the White House for a one-on-one dinner with the new commander in chief.

The conversation that night in January, Mr. Comey now believes, was a harbinger of his downfall this week as head of the F.B.I., according to two people who have heard his account of the dinner.

As they ate, the president and Mr. Comey made small talk about the election and the crowd sizes at Mr. Trump’s rallies. The president then turned the conversation to whether Mr. Comey would pledge his loyalty to him.

Mr. Comey declined to make that pledge. Instead, Mr. Comey has recounted to others, he told Mr. Trump that he would always be honest with him, but that he was not “reliable” in the conventional political sense.

Unreal.

By Mr. Comey’s account, his answer to Mr. Trump’s initial question apparently did not satisfy the president, the associates said. Later in the dinner, Mr. Trump again said to Mr. Comey that he needed his loyalty.

Mr. Comey again replied that he would give him “honesty” and did not pledge his loyalty, according to the account of the conversation.

But Mr. Trump pressed him on whether it would be “honest loyalty.”

“You will have that,” Mr. Comey told his associates he responded..

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

--Hey, does anyone remember that Time article I posted the other day about The President After Hours?--

How could we forget? It's where we first learned the latest item to be included in Trump's impeachment indictment; he gets two scoops of ice cream and prog journalists only get one. ONE!
As I pointed out somewhere else, they should count themselves lucky; most hosts would have served them hemlock or installed trap doors under their chairs.
I would have.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Ignatz,

Yes, but while the press was carrying on about ice cream, they neglected to attach any significance to the President's statement that "when we took that wallpaper down e found gold."

When I first read it, I though he was referring to the architecture.

Now I am wondering if that was a clue in plain sight.

Ben

John Corncromulent tops the list.

He will sign loyalty oath.

Ben

Heh. I'm surprised he didn't eat it from container. Does he wear a bib?

Ben

"may say “Oval Office” outside the oval office, but Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here would be more accurate. Even a brief review of Trump’s past quickly reveals claim after claim of calamities left in his wake. Reports of bills unpaid, businesses ruined, investors hung out high and dry, lenders left holding the bag, and reputations destroyed are easy to find. But, up until last fall, the pattern was mostly confined to people and organizations who had the misfortune of encountering Trump the private citizen-bully. Now, it’s everyone, the Republican Party, We the People, and anyone under Trump’s teeny-tiny executive thumb:

[Rosenstein] now joins a legion of Trump Dignity Wraiths, men and women (though mainly men) of once vaunted reputations or at least public prestige who have been reduced to mere husks of their former selves after crossing the Trump Dignity Loss Event Horizon.

Coming into the orbit of Mr. Trump, taking his yoke as it were, requires not only total submission, a total relaxation of every muscle and defense but a farewell to all independence and dignity. … Look at Chris Christie, a once strong-arming figure now reduced to being the iconic symbol of a shudder-inducing, oddly voluntary and seemingly perpetual cycle of abject humiliation."

I think he'll just hand the WH keys to Pence and go have chocolate cake.

Fox exec asks: "Does Trump want to be president?"
While aides and Capitol Hill allies are staying off the air, Trump's conservative media cheerleaders are sticking with him, telling him (through the TV) that he's a victim. That's why these comments from Fox Newsers were notable on Friday:

-- Fox's digital politics editor Chris Stirewalt wrote a column telling Trump's biggest fans that "this is deadly serious stuff," so "what Trump badly needs now is straight talk and honest appraisal from his advisers and supporters..."

-- Anchor Chris Wallace said on Shep Smith's 3pm show that Trump's behavior this week is "very troubling..."

-- Executive editor John Moody asked in a Foxnews.com column: "Does Donald Trump want to be president?"

My husband wisely cautioned me about reading The Hill but would I listen? More Schiff droppings:

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, offered high praise for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Friday, saying the Arizona Republican's vocal criticism of President Trump marks his "finest hour."

"I think frankly, This is John McCain's finest hour," Schiff said on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher." "Probably his most important public service since Vietnam is what he is doing now. I wish we had more Republicans in the House or maybe even one in the House who is willing to follow his example."

Captain Hate

FBI needs to be headed by a cop.

That's what I was thinking during the Garland discussion. As far as a law degree, yeah maybe, but that didn't get to the heart of what the position calls for imo. Knowing how to intelligently employ resources is key and a law enforcement background addresses that.

Captain Hate

Probably his most important public service since Vietnam is what he is doing now.

Well when you consider the Keating 5, giving Curb Dive a lesson on how to run a terrible presidential campaign, the Gang of 8 embarrassment and getting smoked on a dossier that wouldn't fool the village idiot, getting blown out of the sky looks pretty GD good, Schiff-for-brains.
