TC,

Only the American press calls it "The British Open". It is called The Open Championship since the first one in 1860. If you go, all the merchandise is labelled "The Open".

All other "opens" need a modifier to distiguish it from The Open (i.e. US Open, Canadian Open, etc).

Whover wins is called "The Championship Golfer of the Year".

Thanks, JiB. Reminds me of the AFL-NFL World Championship Game often being referred to by a colloquial title, the Super Bowl. Of course, in that case, the colloquial won out and became the official title. I guess it is more catchy than changing the Ls to Cs to reflect the merger and calling it the AFC-NFC World Championship Game.

One America News is running this video clip on the New York Times leak that allowed Al Baghdadi to escape our clutches. My transcript:

Tony Thomas, Commander US Special Ops: There were points in time when we were particularly close to him, unfortunately there were some leaks about what we were up to at that time. When we went after Abu Sayef, the Oil Minister, who was very close to him, one of his personal confidantes, he didn't live but his wife did. She gave us a treasure trove of information about where she had just been with Baghdadi in Raqqa, days prior. And so that was a very good lead. Unfortunately it was leaked in a prominent National Newspaper (The Times) about a week later and that lead went dead.

Remind me again why General Sherman's Court Martialing of the New York Reporter was a bad idea.

If Trump and his family are singled out for this when the Democrats have skated, this will be regarded by a vast proportion of the public as selective prosecution further exacerbating the ominous possible results I referred to above.

To take any of this seriously as a search for truth is absurd. It's more like a blood sport, the modern equivalent of a gladiatorial.

Hey Rosenstein get control of the special counsel

(Reuters) - U.S. investigators examining money laundering accusations against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort hope to push him to cooperate with their probe into possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, two sources with direct knowledge of the investigation said.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team is examining Manafort's financial and real estate records in New York as well as his involvement in Ukrainian politics, the officials said.

Between 2006 and 2013, Manafort bought three New York properties, including one in Trump Tower in Manhattan. He paid for them in full and later took out mortgages against them. A former senior U.S. law enforcement official said that tactic is often used as a means to hide the origin of funds gained illegally. Reuters has no independent evidence that Manafort did this.

The sources also did not say whether Mueller has uncovered any evidence to charge Manafort with money laundering, but they said doing so is seen by investigators as critical in getting his full cooperation in their investigation.

In the United States of America that I know it has never, ever been "The Open" and it most definitely isn't today. That title is reserved for the United States Open.

It's the damn British Open, Jane, and they best be satisfied with that title. I never heard it referred to the wrong way until ESPN started this "you *will* like soccer" kick (nope), you *will* pay attention to the WNBA (nope), and you *will* refer to this major as "The" Open (hellz to the nah, nah, nah).

We're Americans and here in "The World" we will fight over that shiznit, Jane, because we don't give a single, solitary damn how they refer to it.

Attention TK:

From Subotai over on Wretchard's latest --

I have mentioned this before, but it remains ever germane. In 1982 the Democrat Party and the Republican Party entered into a Federal Court Consent Decree wherein the Republican Party agreed that they would not engage in any activity to prevent vote fraud without the permission of the Democrat Party and a Federal Judge. The scope of the agreement was nationwide.

It was renewed in 2010.

Here is the text of the decree:

https://fellowshipofminds.f...

The Republican Party has no desire to defeat Democrats electorally, as they have agreed to the one-sided election fraud that we observe every time we vote. Which explains both why the Republicans are so p*ssed off at President Donald Trump and all who voted for him, AND why they are doing their best to lose their majorities in both Houses of Congress.

It is far too late to take over the Republican Party. If we are going to have an electoral democracy, it requires an opposition party, which role the Republicans have abjured.

We need a SECOND Party in this country. Because otherwise, no elections do not mean anything and politics reverts to Thomas Hobbes' "State of Nature, red of tooth and claw". Which a actually consider quite likely, as soon as the non-Leftists figure out what the new rules are.

NO MORE BULL: No, it does not seem strange that the FBI did not demand access to the DEM server. The FBI, along with pretty much all Federal Law Enforcement and Intelligence agencies do not work for either the Federal Government, nor are they loyal to the Constitution. They are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Democrat Party, and their actions [and lack thereof] make perfect sense when looked at through that lens.

Honest elections, or at least the belief in them and that functioning policy can be changed by who you vote in and what you vote for or against is the safety valve that releases the pressures built up by having 300 million plus citizens within our borders. That valve gives every appearance of being wired shut.

Hmmm.

Daddy,

I can relate. I had an experience as blue four early in my flying career in the UK that was essentially a "do not pair" request. After some confused maneuvers of the formation he was leading, I got read the riot act by the flight lead during the mission debrief that was just way over the top. I went directly into the schedulers and told them that if they ever scheduled me in one of his flights again, I would call in DNIF (Duty Not Including Flying, usually some illness that was a grounding event). For the subsequent year we were in the squadron, I never did fly with him again.

Extraneus

Mooch is a breath of fresh air and Trump is smart to bring in someone who has no motive to stab him in the back, and may even be loyal enough to take one for the new gipper.

It didn't dawn on me while watching the press conference yesterday, but I gather that the ladies weren't too bothered by him, either. And that can't hurt.

Btw, I'm Italian from the City and that's how we shortened names like his, Muccio, etc. I've seen it elsewhere already, but it's legit.
