Jane (Stand against the Coup)

FORE!

Dave (in MA)

Jane Austen?
Golf?

ZZzzzzzz

James D.

From the last thread (or maybe the one before that)

Jane asked me why we are not tearing down the opposition if wrecking is so much easier than building. Fair question.

Because WE have jobs, and families whom we love and who depend on us. We don't have the time or freedom to wantonly destroy, because we have to make our livings.

Oh, and we have functioning consciences, which is something the other side lacks.

Frau Schottin

I personally like a man in plus fours.

Mr. Frau has called golf a game of marbles with long sticks.

maryrose

Dave:
Austen- yes
Golf- zzz.

maryrose

JamesD:
So true
Bet you can't wait for the New York Giants to ramp up again!

Jack is Back!

Well, Justin Thomas showed up Thursday in white shirt, tie, cardigan and plus fours and did well. He traded his vintage outfit for regular golf clothes and finished on the bubble. Took a 9 on the out par 5.

This is a course and tournament made for someone like Spieth. He has the best short game in the business and that includes Mickleson. If he can keep the ball in short grass and not take a quad or triple from off line driving, its his to win.

Keeping your line is the key at Birkdale. Off your line, prayer may help but nothing else.

James D.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this season, maryrose. But of course we all know I will be ranting like a lunatic the moment the opening game kicks off.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Gonna have to check for a new thread before every comment I guess or they'll all be orphans. And so, encore;

I have no idea what's going on with any of this and so have nothing to say other than it sure is a lot more fun watching the Trumpcapades than those arrogant, infantile, half witted Barrybots and the lightworker's not so subtle middle finger extended to America or the plodding, Bushian dumkopffs begging prog pardons for not properly enjoying the kicks to their heads.

I would also seriously like to send Old Lurker some amphetamines to counter all those barbiturates Mrs OL seems to be lacing his gin and tonics with.

OL, try remembering where, but for the grace of God, we could be a little more and where we wish we were a little less and you might even see a slight crepuscular ray crack through that dark, brooding cloud over your head.

Frau Schottin

James D. - many of us, young and old--from all over the country--made the time in 2009 to travel to DC and voice our displeasure with the business as usual. You may have been there, too.

James D.

There are no words:

http://www.floridatoday.com/story/news/crime/2017/07/20/teens-filmed-mocked-drowning-man-cocoa-police-say/495518001/

Well, actually, there are a lot of them. Starting with: the teens stood there and watched a man die, laughing at him and videotaping his death to share with their friends as some great joke, should be executed.

Jack is Back!

The guy to watch is Ian Poulter. He was damn close to losing his card on the US tour and somehow found his game to keep it. IIRC, no Englishman has ever won at Royal Birkdale. Only Americans except for Padraig Harrington in 2008 and Peter Thompson of Australia twice in 1954 and 1965 and Ian Baker-Finch, another Aussie, in 1991.

He is -3 and with two rounds to go and the fickled weather of NW England, he cannot be counted out.

He's in my pool, along with Spieth. The other four? Meh.

James D.

True, Frau.

But then everyone went home, to their jobs and their responsibilities. None of you had George Soros paying you to follow the rent-a-thug BLM protest mobs, or wealthy and out-of-touch parents supporting you while you became Occupoopers or unpaid "activists" for Democrat causes.

That's the problem in a nutshell. They can undermine and protest and destroy 24/7, and they are supported largely by OUR tax dollars. On the other hand, we can only fight back at the end of the working day or on the weekend, after we've paid our bills and supported our families, and paid the taxes that they then use against us.

maryrose

JamesD:
Tragic and troubling!
I have to admit I enjoy you ranting and raving every Sunday during the football season!

daddy

Here's good news: King Cove road legislation passes House of Representatives

This is the bill that would authorize a one lane gravel road of 12 mile length to be built to a Native community from an Airstrip so that in winter they could get folks to decent Medical care. It has been passed before but last time Enviro-fool Sally Jewell, Obama's Interior Czar, squashed it under the theory it would somehow harm birds. If it passes the Senate it may have to still jump thru Enviro-Legal challenges but at least it won't be squashed by Govt numb-nuts like Jewell.

Frau Friesland

RG - I read the entire healthcare/health insurance article you shared. I found it very interesting especially since our son, Secundus, needed to find a new plan. He has decided to join a Mennonite one and make use of their plan. It is one of these:

Cost-sharing associations

Sec. 5000A(d)(2)(b)(i) of the ACA allows ministries to get together and form non-profit health-sharing organizations that are exempt from Obamacare’s regulations and subsidies and immune to the crony capitalist greed inherent in the insurance cartel. Rather than working like insurance, engaging in racketeering and setting the price for services, they merely pay for the medical bills directly through mutual shared payments of members.

As you suggested to us: Read the entire thing.

Jack is Back!

JamesD, OL and others,

It has been a slippery slope since Wilson. Then all of sudden a huge amout of grit has shown up and slowed it down. No one in DC wants to go under the speed limit, they want to blow by everyone and Trump's speed bumps are intolerable.

How Sessions got snookered by Rosenstein and never saw this coming is going to be one of the great mysteries of politics for years coming.

It is going to be a huge slough to drain this swamp because it so vast, so deep and so controlling. The money and power to use it are uncompromising. Trump will need more than his great, unwashed base in order to make much difference.

Jack is Back!

....slough = slog.....

-peter

James D. @ 5:51, when I heard about this story, my MSM ears went up. Who were the "teens" who were so indifferent to human life? I thought about it. I looked around on the internet and saw a photograph of the victim, and saw he was African American. Then I looked up Cocoa, Florida in wikipedia, and saw that its demographics are 60 per cent white, 30 per cent African American. Then I realized that had the teens been white, the MSM would have played up the racial angle no end, so I knew the teens were African American.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I liked Scaramucci so much I watched him twice. Some things I noted:

The use of the word"love." He Loves the President, the people love the President, so, what is wrong with you goombahs?

I happen to have gotten a law dregree from Harvard, so let me tell you up front I am not answering your hypothetical questions.

I didn't fall off the turnip truck, so don't try and ask me to reveal personal conversations with the President.

No, I am not deciding that because the President is the President of the United States and he decides.

Normal friction is not palace intrigue, so quit pretending that it is.

In the world of business... I think he said that 3 times, and it inferred that the press just didn't get it.

I am very pleased. More New Yorkers like this!

Frau Friesland

JamesD - I agree. We have also had to worry that our cars would not be damaged because of bumper stickers that offend or accosted by stupid strangers or even neighbors who want to lecture us about our failures as caring citizens.

Those who watched a man die should be rounded up and put away for a long time. They are too damaged to enjoy freedom or be offered rehabilitation.

Jane (Stand against the Coup)

James, if we all spent as much time working on that as we do here, we'd have the time.

Hey I'm as guilty as everyone else, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

henry

Peter, beaches self segregate (and the self segregators are very territorial) even in Racine's lakefront. We can thank Obama and decades of work by the EEOC.

Jane (Stand against the Coup)

BTW this is what the dems are posting about:

"
"White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday would not rule out the possibility that President Trump would issue pardons to shield himself or his staff from the federal probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Here is what she is referring to:

"I'd refer you to the comments that have already been made by the outside counsel," Ms Huckabee Sanders said when asked about the President's position on pardons.

"The President maintains pardon powers like any president would," she continued, before adding that "there are no announcements" about pardons right now.

Jack is Back!

"In the world of business" = results matter

Miss Marple the Deplorable

In my fair and balanced mode, Levin on radio griping because he's a "gun grabber" and "supports LGBT rights."

1. He is not there to implement policy. The fact that both Trump sons are gun rights aadvocates negatews whatever Scaramucci believes about guns.

2. The LGBT ship has sailed and they already have the rights decreed by the court. Trump himself supports some degree of gay rights, so it's a moot point. Trump is not going to force churches to do gay weddings, so that is what is important to me. The rest is beyond my control, and I can guarantee that an attempt to roll back rights would not be successful, even if you could muster enough in Congress to try.

ANother thing is that Scaramucci doesn't have to go through a confirmation hearing. He serves at the pleasure of the President. Why it is important for Levin to stir up anger against Scaramucci I do not know. I was starting to think Levin had figured this out, but now he sounds like the Never Trumpers again.

Jane Austen?
Golf?

ZZzzzzzz

Well it is a drag of course that Jane Austen, unlike the marvelous Mister Mark Twain, neglected to mention Golf in her works, but I think we should give her a break since as we all know Jane Austen wrote about Base Ball 40 years before the Game was invented.

Gad, I hope she wasn't a Yankee fan---They're insufferable in any age:(

I have attended Mass at St Stanislaus, and 8 blocks south is the Basilica of St Josaphat. One of the most beautiful churches on Earth.
My Sister is a member, my Nephew was married there June 2. Check it out.

Anyone heard what CRIME ..Mueller is investigating. It seems Mueller is a REBEL WITHOUT A CRIME. But somehow TRUMP is involved. What happened to America?? Billy Rapist Clinton and Barack Bumblefuck are HEROES, and criminals. I guess this is what happens when your Government operates in a CESSPOOL (SWAMP).

henry

Cool Gus, I thought you might know that church.

St Patrick's and St Anthony's are in that VERY SAME NEIGHBORHOOD. Originally mostly Polish, that neighborhood is nearly all HISPANIC.
A friend of mine, Bob Donovan is the alderman in that district. He ran against Tommy "Choo choo" Barrett last year. Milwaukee and Waukesha are FILLLLLLED with beautiful old churches. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church was designed/Built by Frank Lloyd Wright. It is on Milwaukee's NW side, a mile north of where I grew up. 25 miles NW of Milwaukee is Holy Hill.....a Castle like majestic Basilica that could be seen from Erin Hills, where the U.S.Open just played. I have a portrait of Holy Hill on my living room wall. Mrs Gus grew up there.

So John Roberts of Fox sez the deep state is spilling carp on Sessions supposedly speaking of Trump campaign to Kislyak.

So? I'm having the hardest time giving a damn. Is that supposed to be a crime of some sort?

glasater

It seems it is a WaPo story, Jane.

daddy

Lou Dobbs full of news today. He says the Attorney for Glenn Simpson, the Co-Founder of Fusion/GPS, says his client Simpson will not appear to testify next Wednesday and that his client Simpson will Plead the Fifth.

Then Lou mentions the just breaking WaPo story that says that our spooks have recordings of Sessions talking to I think the Russian Envoy Kislyak about Trump Campaign issues.

I can't access that story so just passing this stuff along.

Dobbs asks a simple question of how the hell could a Congressional Committee not bother to Subpoena the FUSION/GPS guy instead of just asking him to testify. Seems to me to simply be another episode in Congressional posturing, along with intentionally dragging things out as long as possible. I hate 'em all.

And the ABC News blurb that is playing on Talk Radio top and bottom of the hour Newsbreaks is Clapper replying to Chris Matthews question that he thinks maybe Trump is trying to make Russia great again. That is what the LIV's in rest of America are hearing today.

I hope Trump has a bunch of buddies in the mob.

daddy,

She (Jane Austen) was referring to the game of "rounders" which at times was called base-ball in late 18th century England. Cricket was in its nascent form then. It exploded on the major scene of sport in the 19th century including here in America.

Rounders and cricket are the precursors to our baseball. By the way, Abner Doubleday had as much to do with the creation of baseball as Al Gore had to do with the creation of the internet.

David, Internet Deplorable

I posted this at the end of the last thread, not realizing there was another new post.

So, there is a new article over at Conservative Treehouse. A day or so ago, Sundance there seemed to be of the opinion that Trump was deliberately trying to distance himself from Sessions to give the AG cover for some actions that otherwise would make him appear a puppet of the President. He now seems to have changed his mind. In an article about the appointment of Scaramucci means that Trump has decided to declare all-out war on the Deep State and the GOP.

President Trump’s opposition, both Republicans and Democrats, have shown their intent to destroy his presidency, administration, life-long business interests, and now his family.

Therefore President Trump is now going to the mattresses.

Everything within the swamp is now the enemy, including those who would have formerly presented themselves as allies, but unfortunately have lived a life within the swamp too long and will surely become collateral damage regardless of their current disposition.

President Trump made this ‘broken arrow’ outlook intentionally clear when he publicly stated that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was now facilitating enemies of his administration. The president did not use the word “enemy”, but the implication was evident.

Lines are clear. People supportive of the administration are either part of the larger battle objective, or they are co-dependents to the system that is seeking to destroy the presidency. There is no middle ground. There is no longer any reasonable view that political diplomacy will work.

Yes, this approach means the congenial gloves are off; it is long overdue. President Trump gave the UniParty, RINOs’, GOPe, Administrative State and liberal progressive every possible opportunity to meet with him, and his representatives, and genuinely do something that factually benefits the country. The entire political system in DC, and every participant within it, not only failed to accept an outstretched hand, they belittled President Trump for reaching out to them. Now those same entities have launched criminal probes against him and his family.

I still think that it is possible that Jeff Sessions has something up his sleeve, but that seems to me to be increasingly unlikely, given the current context. I think that Sundance is right and that the effort to go after President Trump's family was a bridge too far. He was prepared for all manner of attacks on himself, but going after his family was too much. If his opponents had any sort of principles or ethics, they would be off-limits. But we know, of course, that they have none. The only thing they believe in is raw, naked power, and they don't care who they have to destroy to obtain.

It is past time for President Trump to treat the GOPe and the Democrats as enemies, but I believe that his own sense of honor required that he give them an opportunity to meet him at the table and work with him. They have rebuffed him, and they will now pay the price. I am hoping that we are now going to see the sort of action we have all been praying for.

This is the passage from Jane Austen's 1st Chapter of NORTHANGER ABBEY (1797-8) mentioned by JiB:

Mrs. Morland was a very good woman, and wished to see her children everything they ought to be; but her time was so much occupied in lying-in and teaching the little ones, that her elder daughters were inevitably left to shift for themselves; and it was not very wonderful that Catherine, who had by nature nothing heroic about her, should prefer cricket, baseball, riding on horseback, and running about the country at the age of fourteen, to books--or at least books of information--for, provided that nothing like useful knowledge could be gained from them, provided they were all story and no reflection, she had never any objection to books at all. But from fifteen to seventeen she was in training for a heroine; she read all such works as heroines must read to supply their memories with those quotations which are so serviceable and so soothing in the vicissitudes of their eventful lives.

Can't wait till I get to the part where she is partial to explosives:)

Is the potential "crime" that Sessions might have engaged in, the "crime" of incomplete and/or not entirely truthful answers on his forms he submitted when filling out the paperwork for the job?

None of us know, probably not even Sessions himself, about exactly what was said by and to whom way back in mid-2016 when nobody had even a passing thought about the Russians, but if the tapes exist it should be no big task by 14 hired gun prosecutors to hang him, ala Scooter Libby.

I agree, maryrose.

If Sessions cannot take on the difficult task of cleaning up the refuse left by Obama and crew, then he has no place in this administration. Either he doesn't understand what the critical issues are, or he's delegated them to Rosenstein so as not to sully his precious "good name". At the very minimum, he should not be adding to the burdens of the President by wimping out.

Spicer should have gracefully exited months ago. We're fortunate to have Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and I'm delighted that she will be the new White House Press Secretary!

This is part of The Conservative Treehouse article that David linked.

I really like it because it's exactly what I've been thinking lately about President Trump: 'He's our Patton!'

"The problem is that, through these years, the Left has been the only side fighting this war. While the Left has been taking a knife to anyone who stands in their way, the Right has continued to act with dignity, collegiality and propriety.

"With Donald Trump, this all has come to an end. Donald Trump is America’s first wartime president in the Culture War.

"During wartime, things like “dignity” and “collegiality” simply aren’t the most essential qualities one looks for in their warriors. Ulysses Grant was a drunk whose behavior in peacetime might well have seen him drummed out of the Army for conduct unbecoming. Had Abraham Lincoln applied the peacetime rules of propriety and booted Grant, the Democrats might well still be holding their slaves today. Lincoln rightly recognized that, “I cannot spare this man. He fights.”

"General George Patton was a vulgar-talking, son-of-a-bitch. In peacetime, this might have seen him stripped of rank. But, had Franklin Roosevelt applied the normal rules of decorum, then Hitler and the Socialists would barely be five decades into their thousand-year Reich.

"Trump is fighting. And what’s particularly delicious is that, like Patton standing over the battlefield as his tanks obliterated Rommel’s, he’s shouting, “You magnificent bastards, I read your book!” That is just the icing on the cake, but it’s wonderful to see that not only is Trump fighting, he’s defeating the Left using their own tactics.

"That book is Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals – a book so essential to the Liberals’ war against America that it is and was the playbook for the entire Obama administration and the subject of Hillary Clinton’s senior thesis. It is a book of such pure evil, that, just as the rest of us would dedicate our book to those we most love or those to whom we are most indebted, Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer."

Glad I got out of that hopeless town.

The shooting happened in a nice neighborhood. My good college buddy lives nearby. Lib of course. She was outraged on Facebook at first....but after we learned the cop was Somali, crickets. I'm sure you're all as shocked as I am.

We fly to MSP next Friday but my folks live west of town. We'll be seeing that college buddy as well as others and my lefty brother and his family. Hope it is not a big topic of conversation.

Daddy,

That is really great news. SMOD has been a complete disappointment to me, but it is good that our American Supervolcano is stepping up to do the job.

Make America great again—an American stepping up to do the work than an alien won't.

Buckeye

C'lumbus not quite as libtard as Minneapolis. So far no Somalis on the police force.

I'm picking Brooks Koepka for the win. Watched him play with Dustin in a Masters practice round. He is a monster.

The Sessions "meeting" was that they both attended the Trump foreign policy speech.
