Beats me Maryrose, but I would love it to lead to an empaneled Grand Jury.

I see on further catch-up that many here think this will go nowhere. That would not surprise me either, but at least we appear to be going thru the motions which is better than the alternative. I want Comey and Mueller to have to publicly state what they talked about in Item 10.

Transgender policy will remain unchanged for now says Gen. Joseph Dunford, Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, says

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. will continue to permit transgender individuals to serve openly in the military until Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has received President Donald Trump's "direction" to change the policy and figured out how to implement it, the nation's top military officer said Thursday.

In a memo to all military service chiefs, commanders and enlisted military leaders, Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said "there will be no modifications" to current policy for now, amid questions about Trump's announcement on Twitter that the U.S. government will not "accept or allow" transgender people to serve in any capacity in the military.

Last graph from the Captain's Red State link on the Awan Brother's Case:

After hearing allegations that Steven Wasserman (Brother of DWS) was the US Attorney handling this case, we attempted to obtain case documents that would reveal the name of the prosecuting attorney but have been unable to obtain documentation at this time. But, given the nature of the case, and the fact that Awan had been Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s “right hand” for years, had access to all of her passwords and digital data, that DWS threatened to yank Capitol Police funding over the investigation, and the fact that her brother works in that office and focuses on the issues he does, the information is relevant and something we will continue to investigate.

They also make the good point that if Awan was supposedly in such desperate financial straits that he had to flee to Pakistan for personal economic relief, how did he get the money to afford the super high priced Clinton Lawyer he's using?---Who's paying for Atty Gowan if Awan can't afford Atty Gowan himself?

McMaster Fires Iran Hawk From NSC

Another Flynn holdover has been removed.

https://t.co/t66anSl13W?amp=1

Harvey and McMaster were known to have clashed before. In May, Bloomberg reported that Harvey had come up with a list of so-called “[Barack] Obama holdovers” at NSC who were suspected of leaking to the press. White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon and Trump urged McMaster to fire them, but he refused.

Porchlight

Newt was on Laura Ingraham this morning. I usually agree with most of what he says, but he had it all backwards this time.

They were whining that Scaramucci wasn't behaving in that decorous manner they think he should. Of course not. He was hired to go in and find and fire snakes. One of those snakes just might be the Chief of Staff. So no, you're not going to have an "everybody's getting along great" vibe in a WH full of vipers. Mooch is doing what Trump hired him to do.

Also, Laura played the "fish stinks from the head down" Mooch quote but cut it off right there, leaving out the part where Mooch said he and the president were not the part of the head that stinks. Then Newt said "but Trump is the head, too, right?" Very dishonest of Laura or her staff. I think Newt was just clueless and hadn't read up on what Mooch had actually said.

Newt has a best seller called Understanding Trump. Our library's copy just came in today. For a guy with a best seller of that title, he didn't sound to me like he understood Trump at all, at least this morning. (During the campaign he was much better.)

Anyway, totally disappointing segment. Anyone who still thinks Laura would have been a better choice for press sec is seriously mistaken. She is way behind on everything, and she doesn't have a handle on Trump either.

daddy

Here is the Acting ICE Director, Thomas Homan, who just gave the Briefing I enjoyed listening to:

Porchlight

Laura and Newt are like so many other Republicans, fighting the last battle (that GWB lost). Really, decorum and a facade of everyone getting along nicely is to be prized over identifying and eliminating leakers? Who cares what Scaramucci's personal style is if he can do the damn job?

I find myself at odds with some of my conservative friends here in town over this same thing. They don't seem to realize the seriousness of the war we're in. Still focused on surface stuff.

Sarah Huckabee: (Interrupting with a laugh and a smile) It's probably good if we mix it up a bit.

Unidentified Kevin: Is the President aware of the story of the IT Staffer, the Congressional IT Staffer, who most recently worked for Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Imran Awan, who was recently arrested attempting to leave the country, although he said he was not trying to flee the country, is the President aware of that particular circumstance and is he satisfied with the pace of the Investigation?

Porchlight,

I agree with you. Trump and Mooch are what is needed. We see how well the Bush and Romney teams did against what is obviously a criminal gang.

I think that must be what drove Trump to run. He KNEW what they were doing and couldn't get any GOP guys to really fight. I bet he's had Ryan's number since that debate with Biden.

Newt and Laura criticizing Scaramucci is the worst sort of sour grapes, since neither one was asked to join the administration.

And Laura would have been a terrible press secretary. She is probably green-eyed over Sarah getting the spot. Sarah didn't go to one of those Ivy League schools, you know.

Sarah Huckabee's BIG TIME closing comments at the Presser: (My transcript) You will see these today on TV I am positive.

Sarah: I have to wrap up here...and I want to leave you with just one last thing before I close out on an important development. You guys love to talk about Russia and there's been non stop coverage, and the one day that there might have been a question on Russia, there wasn't. Often we have a lot of Media with Russia First, but today there was Public Testimony that further discredited the phony Dossier that's been the source of so much of the Fake News and Conspiracy Theories, and we learned that the Firm that produced it was also being paid by the Russians. This is yet the latest piece of evidence that vindicates what the President has said, that this is a Witch Hunt and a Hoax. And its a shame that the President and the Country have had to go thru this charade continually, and hopefully this will help us move forward in that process, and with that thanks you guys so much. See you tomorrow.

maryrose

Newt and Laura have made great contributions to the conservative movement over many years.
They are entitled to their opinions.

Of course, maryrose. No one is saying otherwise. I listen to Laura most days and as I said, I almost always agree with Newt.

However, they are missing so much. I find myself yelling at the radio quite a bit. Literally she is missing huge stories. She's just out of touch, and she doesn't realize it. The constant complaints about how Trump's media people are handling things comes across as sour grapes.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

maryrose,

Of course they are entitled to their opinions. As am I, and I think both are missing the mark by a mile.

Of all people, Newt should realize how cutthroat DC has become, far worse than when he was driven out by the revelation of his personal failings by the Clinton Crime Ring, which has become far more powerful over the years since then.

Laura has been snarking about Trump's communications team since she was passed over for press secretary. I have listened to her for years and have had to change channels on more than one occasion since January because she was so bitter and nasty sounding.

That is my opinion. Others may differ.

maryrose

I am far more interested in holding Democrats and the Comey Clinton cabal accountable.
The biggest travesty in my opinion would be if nothing happens to these lousy dishonest people.
You want a secure majority:
Take down the Dem deep state and expose the corruption in FBI, NSA and
Reveal all the leakers and charge them accordingly.

Porchlight

I just find the continuous trashing of every single Republican tiresome and it doesn't move the ball forward.

I get that, but you have to understand that many DC Republicans are publicly trashing Trump. That doesn't move the ball forward either. If a Republican makes good on his promise to MAGA and further the agenda he campaigned on, I'll support that guy.

daddy

BTW,

After watching acting ICE Director Homan, if there is no loss of power or authority in the Department due to Homan simply being Acting Director I am satisfied to just have him continue as Acting Director and screw Mitch and the Senate in taking so damn long to get guys appointed. Running the Govt with tough nosed "Acting" guys like Homan works fine by me.

maryrose

Republicans trashing President Trump do so at their own risk. They will learn like Murkowski is now how that can marginalize them.

El Salvador Charges Hundreds of MS-13 Gang Members During Sessions' Visit.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is in El Salvador today working with the government there to combat the scourge of MS-13, one of the world's most violent gangs. During his visit, hundreds of members were charged with crimes. In total, the number tops 700.

According to the Justice Department, the arrests come after a joint meeting in March between Sessions and El Salvadorian Attorney General Donald Menendez in Washington D.C. and follows through on efforts to fulfill President Trump's executive order ridding the U.S. of MS-13.

And you wonder why Trumps mad.

Looks like Rex Tillerson tricked Trump into keeping the Iran deal forever

During a week in which all signs point to Republicans enshrining President Obama's top domestic achievement into law, it's now looking like Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has tricked President Trump into keeping the main pillar of Obama's foreign policy legacy in place indefinitely: the disastrous Iran deal.

On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that as part of Trump's move to certify Iran's compliance with the deal, the administration is pushing to "test" the deal with more inspections. On the surface, this may seem like a move to step up enforcement and lay the groundwork to unwind the deal — theoretically consistent with Trump's vow to "get tough" on Iran. But in practice, it looks like a stalling tactic designed by Tillerson and Obama holdovers in the State Department to handcuff Trump, with endless bureaucratic delays, from ever being able to pull out of the deal.

The Senate is full of Trump friends:

A senior Republican senator said Thursday he is crafting legislation to protect the independence of the special counsel investigation into Russian activity during the 2016 election, a response to President Donald Trump’s criticism of the probe, which he has called a “witch hunt.”

Sen. [GUESS WHO!] told reporters Thursday that he will introduce a bill next week that would curtail the power of the president to fire a special counsel under some circumstances without approval from a federal judge.

He's from ga and was a history prof at a lower tier state college before he went into politics. Everyone I know in buckhead rolls their eyes when they say his name.

He has long been into futurism and the intentional evolution of man's consciousness a la Marxism. I have a presentation he did in 2002 prattling on about the new kind of humanity we could achieve using ICT and cognitive science.

MM--you can say people are entitled to their opinions and they are, but that does not make opinions of comparable weight. Some opinions are mere assertions and wishful thinking in contravention of relevant, demonstrable facts.

We are now having the same kind of "ignore what he has done and said" characterization of newt we are regularly asked to hear about paul ryan. These are grown men who are responsible for what they say and do and especially what they advocate for for other people from public positions.

Conservative is not just a label to get political power as newt, ryan, and also jeb bush tend to use it. They use it as a label to try to prevent further scrutiny.

Flagstaff and sedona are both quite lovely, but both are the antithesis of beachfront. Labels can't mean whatever someone wishes. No beach in arizona doesn't mean other tourist areas now qualify as beaches.

Don't pursue a Marxist agenda like ryan does with his moneyball for government and expect us to buy the conservative appellation.
