I think the Omen was trying to make the analogy that you don't place statues of your enemies on your soil. Of course, she has never toured Europe with her eyes or brain engaged but that is what you get from mixxing the Hubblell gene with the Rodham gene.

James D.

If you won tomorrows Powerball ($510million) what would you do with it?

After taxes, it would "only" be $195 million or so (at least with Virginia state taxes).

It's an almost unimaginable amount of money, in terms of the things I'd buy and do. And yet it's not nearly enough to something fun like buy a controlling interest in the New York Giants so I could fire the coaches when they displeased me.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--The story of Lucifer-who rebelled against God-is part of many Christians' traditions.--

Is there some Christian "tradition" that a rebellious Satan is not part of?

BTW, "the story of Lucifer" in Isaiah does NOT refer to the devil. It pretty clearly is referring to a king of Babylon.
It was only much later, IIRC, that "Lucifer" became synonymous with Satan.

"OL, Is the ledge in Nantucket?"

OL,

According to this gal (a fellow ADN hater) Alice Rogoff is hanging out in Nantucket and testifying to the Alaska Judge about Chapter 11 via telephone:

Rogoff to bankruptcy judge: ‘Don’t know, can’t remember, don’t recall, can’t say’

When Alice Rogoff took the stand in an Anchorage court today, she phoned it in.

Possibly from Nantucket...

I just hope there's some quality control as to which "woe is me'er's you're letting on that ledge of yours.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Well, DOJ seems to have no interest in following its guidelines so why should Trump?

David Fahrenthold is on that mission making sure that charities no longer will hold events at Mar-a-Lago. You can see his list here:

David's big break came when he was handed the "Grab 'em by the pussy" story.

Good evening. If you want to spend a nice relaxing evening away from politics,"The Birds" is on TCM tonight @ 8. That is the only Hitchcock movie that still freaks me out.

No guideline, code, rule or law can take away the President's Constitutional right to pardon whomever he wants. Every 7th grader learned in Civics Class that that is one of the most import checks and balances we have.

Oh.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Texas Liberty Gal,

n Medieval Europe, the vast majority of the people were illiterate.

Therefore, cathedrals told stories of the Bible, particularly the Gospel, and lessons in morality with stained glass windows and statues.

If you wanted to make the public afraid of Satan, he had to be depicted as a scary figure who looked like an evil monster. The public wasn't going to be repelled by some idea floating around in their brains. They had to see a visual image.

This is also why in cathedrals you see Death depicted as a hooded skeleton carrying a scythe, as well as figural depictions of the Seven Deadly Sins.

You will also see these types of figures depicted in Medieval illuminated manuscripts.

🚨Siren🚨 Steve Bannon returned to Breitbart News as Executive Chairman of Breitbart News and chaired our evening editorial meeting

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Just saw this Appalling goofiness from a couple of threads back.

--I think we are that point where the minds don't meet, and we agree to disagree and I finally shut up. I think most of you know Trump has done something serious to himself through his response to Charlottesville, and hope there is some way to reverse that damage.--

You should have finally shut up when you said you would. If I had a buck for every time some doofus said "Trump has done something serious to himself this time" every time he speaks the unspeakable truth the ruling class bonobos don't want to read, hear or speak themselves I'd be as rich as he is.

On topic, just for kicks . . . I, for one, think firing Bannon was a good idea. Gen. Kelly seems to be cutting down on the infighting within the Oval and imposing some order and discipline, and a clearer chain of command.

Probably the Marine in me, but I think this is a very a good thing.

The Diversity Mob aka the USA women's golf team in the Solheim Cup is doing a number on the less diverse Euro team in the fourballs. Angel Yin, of our side, is hitting 300+ yard drives and making putts from all over the place. She and her partner Salas are 6 up. Its a bloodbath so far.

Waiting for a Trump tweet.

Porch,it might have been Axelrod.

I saw an exhibit of medieval woodcuts at one of the D.C. museums several years ago. The depictions of devils, demons and dragons were meant to scare the sh*t out of the sinners. My thought when I looked at them was yeah, very scary.

 joan

We've been at hospital all day with our niece, whose husband had surgery for tumor (touching brain stem, auditory nerve, plus growth into ear- tumor was bigger than a golf ball (he'd had no pain, just lost hearing, and face began to have some numbness, that's why he went to doctor-surgery successful) -- anyway, I read about Bannon first thing this morning on drive down there, reading bit of news on my phone.

I am tired, and don't think I' believe any media reports of why Bannon gave interview to that reporter. And, I don't feel energetic enough to read the thread.

Would one of you kind people give me an explanation of why Bannon gave "insider interview" to a reporter? I don't know why any one in Trump's administration would have anything to do with a member of the press. Anyway, I would appreciate it. At first I didn't believe it when I read about it. I didn't think Bannon should be giving an interview to any reporter. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

???

daddy

TLG,

My understanding is that in the great Churches of Europe, paintings and carvings were created to visually explain to non-literate parishioners various Bible stories and theology. Thus above the main doorway into the Notre Dame Cathedral (started in 1160 AD) you have this amazing carving depicting the weighing of souls, with those found wanting being dragged off to hell on the right.

Likewise in the great Cathedral at Lincoln (started 1185) we get "souls been pulled from the Jaws of Hell."

The Basilica in Bologna (mid 1400's) is famous for the frescoed scene of Muhamed being pulled to Hell by the Devil:

There are many more examples any of us could dig up on an internet search for an hour or 2, but it is not surprising since the decorations of the Church's themselves were intended as depictions of and as lessons for the Congregation. The Devil being a great part of medieval religious thought in these lessons, naturally he turns up all over the place, and it's evident that carvers and artists enjoyed depicting him since he allowed for such artistic creativity:

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Jane,

All of the military people would work for whoever is commander-in-chief.

As far as Tucker's comment, what about Gorka, Miller, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kellyanne Conway? None of them would work for Hillary.

Tucker has bought into this coup talk, or else he is going along with a story line that Trump is pushing for reasons strategic.

Jim Eagle

No, it was David Plouffe and everytime Trump does something that chases them all to the faiinting couches I always remember that "caution" because it was prescient.

Its what all of this is all about.

derwil, thank you for your service. Semper Fi.

derwill, yet another adorable, irredeemable deplorable

That's ridiculous, Jane--I mean, Tucker's comment, not you. Take a look at that list that MM posted awhile back of senior admin people who are meeting at Camp David this weekend. I don't know that much about some of them, but of the ones I do know of, I can't imagine any of them working for Hillary.

Captain Hate

joan,

It might have been someone he knew and trusted but I agree with you that it was ill advised. Frankly I was never pleased with him being in the administration other than it driving the left even crazier.

clara

My aunt and grandfather are both buried in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery on the main drag in Lexington, Va. Haven't been back in years and wonder if the name is still that?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

joan,

Sometimes people can agree with you in spirit but not be suited for a constrained environment like the White House.

It appears Bannon is still loyal to trump.

I am not worried. Unlike Old Lurker, I think this makes the left think they have had a small victory, but when Bannon gets Breitbart firing on all cylinders, they will see they were wrong.

Clarice Feldman

To answer your question, Jane, if I won the lottery I'd be astonished. I never buy lottery tickets.

 joan

Yes, CH, I smiled when Bannon was appointed as an adviser, because I knew it would make the left mad and crazy. I am sorry that it didn't work out -- the thought of someone associated with Andrew Breitbart sitting in the Whitehouse advising a Republican president just really amused me at how horrified and furious the democrats would be.

:( Wish it could have turned out like I anticipated.

henry

Joan, my brother went through that surgery. Scary stuff.

derwill, yet another adorable, irredeemable deplorable

I suspect it was probably a case of where there can only be one Chief of Staff. Not just one guy who has the title, but one who actually is "the chief." And i wouldn't be surprised that when Trump asked Gen Kelly to take the job, he made that a condition of his acceptance. The purpose of a chain of command is to impose order, so everyone understands where their area of responsibility and governance starts and stops. Of course POTUS is at the top, but within the Oval there has to be a clear #2 and not a half dozen people jockeying and fighting with each other to be #2.

 joan

MM, I am so glad Bannon seems loyal to Trump like you just mentioned. I think I would be depressed if he came out and started sniping at the president.

It is so difficult sometimes to remain optimistic and to hold on to the idea that Trump will steer this 'ship of state' on to success.

 narciso.

The way i see it, Joan, is being disloyal to the people who originally supported you, isn't yielding dividends, the ones he tried to reach out ran like scalded dogs,

Miss Marple the Deplorable

joan,

I really do understand how hard it is. That is why I cancelled cable and quit following a lot of reporters on Twitter. I refuse to poison my mind with their lies.

Cheer up! Many projects are moving forward, Trump's base is pretty much still with him with very few defections. Those who leave were probably not supporters, anyway.

He will win. I have no doubt about it.

Yes, I've completely quit any news -- can't stomach national network news of any kind. I cancelled the newspaper, except for the small local daily.

I read something today that instead of writing or emailing our senators and representatives, we should call their office -- this carries more weight. I think I'm going to do it. I emailed after the WV rally, asking both of our senators to support and get to work on Trump's 'cutting taxes' agenda. Funny thing, got a long email back from Inhofe, but the email to Lankford bounced back -- with the message that said his inbox was too full to accept any more emails and to try again in a few days. I think I'll call his office next week.

They need to pass that tax bill. :)

matt, deplore me if you must

good news joan!

Bannon was Trump's pit bull. Unfortunately he got off the leash one too many times. But he surely exposed the true colors of the Left and RINO's.

Does America want a rerun of the '60's? O don't think so. Most people are barely getting by and don't have time for this carp.

If little Billy Snowflake wants a degree is transgender philosophy and to cut class so he can protest, the leash on that is getting shorter as well. $200K in debt and no job prospects might cure those ills.

Trump has been cutting away at the waste in various departments but somehow these self fellating academics have to be stanched.

 joan

Henry, I hope your brother recovered completely from his surgery. After what happened to my husband back in October (he has never gotten completely over the dizziness) I was wondering about how our niece's husband will be -- surgeons came out afterwards and said he would be very dizzy for a couple of days. Sort of made me sick to my stomach, thinking of how my husband suffers sometimes.

In addition, Trump’s father suffered from Alzheimer's, and there is some familial link with the disease. commenter at Althouse, on post regarding removal of plaque at graves of Confederate POW camp dead buried in Madison:

This was so petty and immature that it is shameful. History is fraught with complexities and ambiguities. Great men can be flawed. Common soldiers can fight bravely and nobly for an ignoble cause. Nations are always a combination of the noble and the regrettable. (There is not a single nation not scarred by slavery). Sensible, decent people can judge these things, can appreciate the good while acknowledging the bad, can show respect to the dead and leave old grudges buried with them. Only historically illiterate, mindless thugs believe that aspects of history they do not like should be erased, that something as simple as a grave needs to be urgently desecrated in the ironic name of "justice." Not only did this clownish mayor not show any empathy, not do what an historical education teaches us in seeing the world from someone else's shoes and recognizing in doing so their common humanity. But he actually rewarded the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville who clearly were looking to provoke just such a rash response to damage race relations. The man is a fool, one of many unfortunately.

I guess the only thing to do is to pledge a solemn vow to find his grave no matter what and piss all over it. Karma.
