Foist!

Buckeye

Kudos where due.

henry

Well done. The more heros, the better.

I still won't watch CNN though.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

He will probably get fired.

Nevertheless, good job!

Captain Hate

Tepid Gas is competitive with CNN except in airports and doctor's offices.

Buckeye

Bubarooni, not going to be in Bloomington, but wish I was. I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around the opener being a Big 10 game.

Jack is Back!

What if it was Jim Acosta and the truck had a MAGA sticker on it? Then I would clap. But then Acosta would never get his cuffs soiled.

Buckeye

Heard from Jr. He is near Lake Charles.

Said there was no way he was letting his parents reside in a seaside nursing home in a low lying area.

Told him I would look for one on stilts.

Bubarooni

Doh!

Buckeye is on!

You gonna be in Bloomington tomorrow by any chance?

Buckeye

No can do Bubarooni. Got to much on my plate.

Enjoy the game!

RattlerGator

TM, I saw some speculation that event was staged specifically to counter the devastating "black female event" from the other day. That may be far too cynical of a take, but . . . we are talking about CNN here.

I bat about .125 w narciso's links. Maybe less.

Anybody do better?

Posted by: anonamom | August 30, 2017 at 09:28 PM

Narciso often has a quirk on his links, somewhere / somehow. I find that he will often leave off the first letter "h" so that's an easy copy and paste fix if I want to check it out. Other times, the link just doesn't take within the comment and I presume that has something to do with malware or spyware or virus protection software he uses. Who knows? But, again, it's an easy copy and paste thing for me.

Now, some of the text found within the body of his comments? Hoo-boy !!! Sometimes I just kick back and laugh, convinced this here sap-sucker is playing with us!

But that's A.O.K. with me if he is; narciso can bring some deliciously interesting additions to the convo.

Buckeye

too much

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Buckeye,

I understand your son. I watched them evacuating a nursing home on Fox today. Water to the edge of mattresses of bed-ridden patients. Quite a difficult ordeal for the rescuers.

Bubarooni

nvm Buckeye, just saw your response.

I'm on the same page with you on starting the season with a conference game.

Normally, we have a 'chance' to start 1-0.

It'll be a great day.

All Hail Kevin Wilson!

Buckeye

The have been making a big deal about Kevin on the local sports news all week.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Bubarooni,

My grandson (ever the hustler and with an eye on his career) has an internship with IU football this year.

I hope I can pick up some inside stuff to report to you.

Buckeye

MM, didn't get any details, but I suspect he has seen a number of evacuated elderly.

daddy

Good Morning!

Last night in "The Great Upheaval." I got thru the chapter where King Louis gets his head chopped off. Man, was that a riveting read. Brilliant writing by author Jay Winik. My heart was in my throat feeling terrible for Louis and Marie and the kids. I always knew about that episode, but Winik does what good authors do, he makes it seem as if you're there in the prison with Louis, and then in the streets watching the insane mob screaming for his head. Yikes. But it helped me stay awake since I couldn't put it down. Now back into Catherine The Greats assault on the Turkish stronghold along the Danube. Having read that bit on Louis I am looking forward to redoing some of those Walking Tours of Paris covering the Revolution on both the Right and Left Banks of the Seine, since the book has added so much to the picture. Good steer, Captain.

Bubarooni

Kevin Wilson is a guy who is gonna win a national championship someday.

Met him a couple of times and he is that guy.

Won't be at I.U. or O.S.U. but, he's a guy to keep your eye on.

Jack is Back!

daddy,

Did you finish the Ghost Map?

I don't know what to add...

Bubarooni

MM, if your grandson is ever in Bloomington on a Thanksgiving weekend, I know where he can get a good turkey dinner.

My Mom does it up right!

RattlerGator

Speaking of deliciously interesting additions to the convo, this James Damore kid (yes, I'm getting old) intrigues the hell out of me. A one hour interview with Milo:

https://milo.yiannopoulos.net/2017/08/watch-milo-meets-james-damore-2/

Late in the interview, he's asked what did he like best about working at Google (and he obviously *loved* working at Google and left a Ph.D. program at Harvard to do so) and the man said . . . the man said . . .

the free food !?!

And he was dead serious about that, too!

Clearly not an agenda-driven guy, and just as clearly a self-aware geek, but he just doesn't suffer foolishness well at all.

Captain Hate

daddy, I'm so glad you're enjoying that. Yes, Winik's narrative style is superb; greatly superior to Schama's, whose "Citizens" Winik praises effusively in the bibliography and is *the* modern encyclopedic reference for everything that happened but just doesn't grip the reader in the same way.

daddy

Jack,

Haven't even started it yet. It's in my brain bag I drag along on the road but I have to finish Winik before I jump into something else, and now it seems next time I'm lucky enough to get a Brit Layover I need to do that Literary Bloomsbury Tour Jane was raving about. So much to read, so little time:)

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Bubarooni,

Thanks for the offer, but his girlfriend is up here and we have big Thanksgivings both in my family and the other side.

On the other hand, I may let him know there is someone in Bloomington in case he needs local help.

He is a very ambitious kid and has a good head on his shoulders, as daddy can attest, since he has met him.

RattlerGator

I don't know what to add...

Posted by: Threadkiller | August 30, 2017 at 10:02 PM

It was glorious, TK. As (ahem) so many black female events are, dontcha know?

But . . . the panic that chick caused ??? It was epic !!!

fdcol63

OT, but has anyone else seen the video of Louis Farrakhan in a church professing his faith in Jesus as his Redeemer?

If true, this would be a major news item. Maybe even a sign of the Apocalypse.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

fdcol63 ,

I saw a link about it on Twitter but didn't read because it was some obscure web site.

You are right, if that is what he actually said.

fdcol63

And then again, maybe not:

http://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2017/august/louis-farrakhan-jesus-is-not-our-jesus-nation-of-islam.html

Jack is Back!

daddy,

Good luck getting around to the Ghost Map. I am now re-reading all my Wodehouse's golf stories (thanks catsmeat for the inspiration) as well as my Feynman's lectures on Quantam physics. You can only get so diverse in your readings.

Jack is Back!

Okay, the Bourne Identity is off and we are too, to bed.

Slaap lekker, tot morgen.

MAGA

Prayers for our fellow citizens in Houston and environs. But hell, they are Texans and not a bunch of pussy hat marchers from the NE.

fdcol63

MM, the terms taqiyya and kitman also come to mind. I just don't trust ANYTHING that comes out of Farrakhan's mouth.

Bubarooni

MM, we gotta find a reason for you to come down to Bloomington some time.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

fdcol63,

Agree.

More disinformation, probably.

================

Heading to bed.

1. a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities:
"a war hero"
synonyms: brave person · brave man/woman · man/woman of courage

2. another term for submarine sandwich.

The CNN guy did a good thing. He did a very good thing. But tossing a guy a rope in a truck that is barely moving and floating like a cork and about five feet from the guy tossing the rope is not heroic.
If it is then what you call a guy like Lenny Skutnik who risks his life diving into ice water to save someone?

It was very wet and close to lunch time so maybe the CNN guy is closer to the second definition?

The other day Maguire indirectly referenced "Both Sides Now" which cboldt correctly pointed out was written by Joni Mitchell. I was never a big Joni fan at the time though it was obvious to me her song writing talent rivaled Dylan. Back in the day a bandmate guitarist was dating my sister and she had a friend who could sing just like Joni. Got to know a lot of her music that way.

Anyway the reference reminded me of one particular Joni song that captured the moment of that time so I looked it up on youtube and listened to Joni do it. Then noticed it was covered by an artist I greatly admire with a well desrved, sadly postjumous, following. I listened and it struck me as a near perfect interpretation of Joni's song.

Woodstock by Eva

Performed live in a small venue apparently attended by friends and fans.

So Calypso Louie is up to his usual shoogity boogity overjive rife with duplicity about the Black Scientology con he's been living fat off forever? Whenever that coward Stedman is ready for that "honest conversation about race" he'd better be ready to talk about Louie's complicity in the death of Malcolm X.

Anyone recall the "Trump insider guy" from Reddit?

Apparently is a DOJ lawyer working for Sessions. Wife was pregnant with twins, one with a bad complication. Wife had to quit job. Mayo Clinic doc suggested they divorce to get gubbmint to help pay apparently large, large medical bills.

Today, guy says Trump wrote a check for it all.

If you believe any of it, of course...

I don't know if anybody mentioned this but the revised second quarter GDP means that Zippy is the only President, including DJT, to never have a quarter of GDP growth of at least 3%.

Dave (in MA)

CH,

I was interested in this until I examined the cover art. https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/doors-of-perception

It's at least getting bumped down the list.

I think Barry's achievement was he never had annual GDP growth of 3%, CH.
Pretty sure he had a quarter or two above 3%.

PolitiFiction found a way to prop up Obama - the "annual GDP never exceeded 3% under Obama" claim is true for *calendar years* but Obama did squeak out some groups of four consecutive quarters exceeding 3%.

Sort of like a calendar year Grand Slam in golf or tennis versus holding all four major titles simultaneously. That would be the Tiger Slam, the Serena Slam, or the Djokovic Slam.

Steffi Graf had a Golden Slam in 1988 (IIRC) winning all four majors AND the Olympic Gold. That makes her the Best Ever. Not just the best woman...

JimNorCal

Thanks for the words on Damote, RG. In just a few words I felt like I picked up a pretty clear picture of the guy.
Another reason to come to JOM of course. The people fan out and explore nooks and crannies of interest to them.

Rod Laver won two, count em two, calendar Grand Slams and he couldn't even compete for a good portion of his prime years.
Anyone doubt The Rocket would have won several Golds had he the chance?

You're correct, Iggy, I just looked up the Weekly Standard article that was the source of it.
